We love to eat at Colton's steakhouse in Benton. The steaks are usually the best in town and cooked just the way I like them. We ate there last night with our grandkids and daughter to soothe away bad news about school closings and our grandson not getting to perform his play due to the cancellations. We all ordered steaks medium rare. It took forever for them to arrive but we did not mind because we were all having a good time just visiting with each other. When they arrived 4 of them were cold and so were the french fries. We told the waitress and she stated that is what you get when you order steaks medium rare. I informed her that was not acceptable and all other places including Colton's served our steaks hot. She said she would take them back and have them put on the grill again. I told her that was not acceptable because I did not want my steak cooked well done. She asked what we wanted her to do and I told her we wanted another steak. She left with the steaks and another waitress came by and was also rude. It took another 15 minutes for the steaks to arrive. My husband went to find out where they were and he saw our order sitting in the window again waiting for someone to deliver them to us. The manager, who was very nice, delivered them. They were not hot like they should be but were luke warm so we ate them. They were very tasty just not as hot as they should be. The good thing from the whole experience was the teaching moment for our grandchildren. We told them how you should act when you are waiting on someone and not how rude these people were. read more

Stopped by this restaurant on Labor Day at the end of a long road trip. The service and food were excellent! The loaded baked potato soup was super creamy and the best I've ever had. Our family had a steak, burger, chicken, ribs and smoked salmon dip, and everyone said their food was very good. They also had very good sanitation practices during COVID, with the added measure of plexiglass panels installed between each booth. I highly recommend Colton's! read more

Poor service. Was told we could use meal pass and then told we had to pay because they were not accepted. Unacceptable.

Pretty good place to stop for dinner. Ribeye was pretty tasty. Waitstaff very attentive. Cocktails good too, but no bar.

This is your typical steak chain restaurant. Mediocre food and I refuse to eat anywhere where there are peanut shells on the floor and everyone yells "yee-haw" when it's your birthday. So annoying. What's funny is this is always voted the "Best Fine Dining Restaurant" in the area. It's kind of a joke to people who live outside of Saline County that this is considered the best restaurant in the city. SAD. read more

I've been coming here for years and have decided not to come back. I order a steak every time and always ask for medium rare. It always comes out well done or medium well. The service is great but the steaks are awful! I will just keep going to Texas Roadhouse where they always know how to cook a steak as ordered. read more

Ye gods run away as fast as you can. Slow service and the steaks are absolute trash. One time I made the mistake of ordering ribs. I was not aware that ribs could be that awful. So much gristle that it was almost impossible to eat and they were amazingly greasy. read more

This steak house was really good. The best thing about it was the bucket of peanuts they had on the table. They were shelled, and once you took the shells off you just threw them on the floor! Lol! So this is my story. So one night after a home cooked meal my family still had a sweet tooth. I call in an order of deserts, I order all of them the NY cheese cake, the Whiskey River Bread pudding, and the chocolate Sin-Sation. The NY cheese cake was luke warm, the bread pudding was still frozen, the brownie tasted like metal. When we called the Manager he told me to "just pop it in the microwave" all I could think of was I paid you 15 bucks to microwave my own desert. It was like they sold me a make your own desert kit. But the complimentary peanuts and dinner rolls were excellent! :^) My extraordinary lover and my wife both had me... and ordered the Swiss mushroom burger and selected sweet potato fries as the side. We ate here last night, our wait for a table was only about 10 minutes. Our waitress, Shana, did not know what beers were on tap, she had to go check and then only listed five, there were eight that we saw at the bar. The waitress did not know the price for the prime rib she said at first it was $16.99 the went to the register and said it was $19.99. We never received our bread and honey butter after being seated. We ordered the onion blossom which was not cooked fully and very greasy, it was also not cut far enough so it was hard to eat. The salads arrived with the appetizer and were okay, but nothing to write home about. When the main course arrived both steaks were cooked okay, the Au Jus that came with the prime rib was completely tasteless. I had the fries and they were VERY heavily salted, to the point of inedible. My wife had the mashed potatoes and said the had no flavor at all. When we were done we asked for a box to take the leftovers in. the waitress took my card and went to ring us up, but then went to another table and began taking orders. After about 10 minutes she finally returns with the check but no box. We just left the leftovers and departed, and will NOT be back. read more

First off let me say in the restaurant service and food is 95% always great. However I don't eat out often. I am more likely to get take out, and that is where the Colton's issue is for me. I love going and getting a Texas house salad but every time I order this as take out the salad is wrong or looks puny, nothing like what it looks like in the restaurant and their salad dressing is more watery than creamy at least that's the case with the ranch. It's a shame because I would probably get food from them 2-3 times a week if it was more consistent. The workers are great and friendly though. read more

The food and service have been good every time my family and I've eaten there, which has been mostly late 2014. I think the steak preparation depends largely on the cook, as our steak was sometimes not cooked as we ordered. The salmon has always tasted great. I wish I could remember our server's name, but one time when my daughter and I got there a little before 4 p.m., he made sure to tell us we could still order from the lunch menu, saving us some money. read more

By far It was the worst meal I NEVER ate. Valentines day, after a 45 minute wait, I ordered the 12oz prime rib, loaded potato and salad. The salad arrived, it was just lettuce with grated carrot. a tiny sprinkle of cheddar cheese and 3 croutons with about 1oz dressing. Also, no bread was brought until we asked the server for it. Then, the server brings the prime rib and proudly presents it. I look at it, then look at him and ask "would you eat this?" He says "We have good prime rib, I like it." Then I point out to our unconcerned server, that out of this 12oz cut of prime rib, the only edible part is a pink section the size of a bar of bath soap, (about 5oz of actual meat) and all the rest of the cut was huge chunks of gelatinous fat and charred gristle surrounding it. I told him he should know better than to bring a plate looking like this to the table, adding "If you wouldn't serve it to your mother, don't try and pawn it off on the customer..." Needless to say It was a huge turn off and I sent it back to the kitchen, our dinner ruined. I didn't feel like taking the risk on another order, so I ordered nothing and we took the rest of our order to go. I paid the check (#20095) by credit card, less the prime rib. The manager came by our table as we were leaving and apologized, she said it was gross looking, should never been served and that she would not have eaten it either. This makes 2 times in 6 weeks this location has messed my order up, My Birthday dinner was spoiled by their kitchen as well on 1/3/15. I ordered the 14 oz New York strip but received the 12oz Sirloin instead. I knew it was the wrong cut of meat, but since I was the guest of the party and wasn't paying the check, I ate the cheaper cut of meat I was served as not to make the rest of the people in our party wait while your kitchen fixed their mistake. But none the less, my friend that paid for my dinner was overcharged for something we never received. First I, an obviously late 40's person, was carded and the server "let" me order a drink, because my obviously 50's spouse showed ID since I couldn't go to my car & retrieve mine, as the server suggested I do. The strawberry daiquiri didn't have whipped cream on it like their display picture showed. I ordered a steak, medium, and asked for A1 when asked if I needed anything. While I waited, I ate the sides, which were good/adequate. The sauce hadn't arrived by the time I finished, and the server came to check on us & realized she hadn't brought it. She went to get it & by then my steak was getting cold. I cut into it and it was well done, except for the very center. I tried to eat it with the house sauce on the table, but it was terrible. She came by much later, having forgotten us again, asked if the sauce was the same as A1 and I said no. No apologies, she left, no comp when the check was brought, after we waited 10 minutes. I am retired and on a budget. Colton's has a small steak that I order. I have NEVER been disappointed with this steak. It has been cooked perfect every time. They have a reasonably priced kids menu. When you have 7 grand children, that is very important. The service has been good each visit. It is one of our family's gathering places for a family dinner. My family loves to eat here, though it isn't my favorite. The kids like to eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. As steakhouses go, the food is really good and fresh-tasting. The service is usually pretty good and the food portions are big. It's a little pricey, imho. Our only real complaint is with the cooking of the steaks - they are small but super THICK, so if you ask for Medium Well, it's still very bloody inside; Medium Rare and it's still mooing! If you ordered it Rare, you'd probably have to kill it yourself. We've had to send several steaks back for this reason. Aside from the crowd noise (bad acoustics), the ambience is fun and comfortable and the decor is suitably Texan - with saddles, chaps, horseshoes, stuffed boar, jackelopes, longhorns, etc all around. For my money, Western Sizzlin' is a better experience. However, the family sees Sizzlin' as Walmart and Colton's as Target. read more
