Don't order the STEAK! After a long day on the road,on our way to TX, we stopped in Rolla MO. My boyfriend had a " hankering" for a steak so we decided to check out Colton's STEAKhouse. On our arrival we were greeted by a friendly young man that sat us at a table. Our waitress promptly came to our table and took our drink order. She returned with my delicious sweet tea and a tall 20oz mug of cold beer for my boyfriend and some tasty rolls with butter. I ordered the Catfish with coleslaw and fried okra for a side. My boyfriend ordered the 10oz ribeye, salad and sweet potato. My catfish was cooked perfectly with cornmeal batter. The okra was also delicious. My boyfriend was disappointed in his steak. Although it was cooked to medium as he ordered, it was 1/4 inch thick at best. (Wish I had taken a picture) The flavor was ok however 25 percent was gristle. His sweet potato was hot and had plenty of butter cinnamon and brown sugar or it and salad was decent. Bottom line for us, we would not return to Colton' for a Good Steak. read more

Just your normal chain restaurant. 3 stars in my book isn't bad, literally just average. They bread they give you is good, and they have peanuts as well. Fill up on this, get an app, then bring your meal home. I got a combo of ribs and a steak and got 3 meals out of that. Steak was tender, ribs good, but a little tough to get off the bone. Mac and cheese was dry but good flavor, and smashed potatoes were yum. Service could be a little more attentive. I sat for a good 20 minutes waiting for a box or even to see the waitress. We only had 8 people so it wasn't like I was lost in a crowd. Atmosphere is good for the theme they are projecting. read more

Place was busy for a Tuesday night. Peanuts to snack on while waiting for menus and water. Fairly noisy and bustling atmosphere but appropriate for the place and the decor. Food was plentiful, filling and tasty. A little too much salt in the sauce of the Hawaiian chicken. Green beans were fresh and not too badly overcooked but were a little greasy (tasted great because they were buttered) Rolls were good and the server was attentive and friendly. Every item we ordered had absolutely no flavor to it. Even the butter or margarine they served with bread and potatoes tasted like crisco. Blue cheese dressing on salad is watered down and is unpleasant. Steak ordered medium came out rare and even after sending back it still was bed and bloody. I rarely do restaurant reviews but I honestly cannot find one thing positive to say about our experience here. read more

I went to Colton's in Rolla today and I was very disappointed! I asked for a medium cooked ribeye and is came out medium well. The baked potato was very hard and old. How can you mess something as simple as a baked potato? It should be soft and fluffy on the inside not hard to mash and pull away from the skin. We also ordered cocktails and they did not have alchohol in them. My sister's Bloody Mary was pale red and she said it tasted terrible. There is no quality to their food. This is not my first time at this Colton's but it has been a year and they have really lowered their standards. What a shame I really used to like them. We won't be going back! read more

Colton's hamburgers are excellent. However, they really could improve the decor. The misspelled signs at the entrance stereotype cowboys as being uneducated. It is really inappropriate to reinforce this type of behavior, especially in front of children. read more

Here's the thing...I lived in southern Missouri for five years, when the Colton's went in at West Plains I was ecstatic to try a new place. It was great! I had a favorite entree, service was good and my Mom and I loved to go there together. My Mom lives near Rolla and I have also relocated to the area so we were pretty excited to try this Colton's. Everything West Plains had going for it...this one didn't. And we went with my then fiancee and his Mom. It was embarrassing to say how much we liked Colton's in general (we knew it could possibly be different at a different location) and then have the experience we had. My favorite entree...smothered chicken was bland and had large pieces of chewy fat. My mother in law asked three times about a special and the cost (that wasn't listed on the menu insert), the server couldn't seem to remember long enough to check that cost for us. And then my husband had a steak that I believe was more fat than meat... Just not a good experience. read more

I came in on Friday and Courtney was my server! She did Amazing. She offered us appetizers and desserts. We started out with fried pickles and then I had a Filet Mignon. I don't think I'll ever be able to have another steak. It was amazing a cooked perfect. Nothing can compare. I had the homemade bread pudding for dessert. It was delicious. All the employees were nice and on top of things. They were all eager to help and were so friendly. The hosts definitely put us in a great mood when we got there! Way to go. Granted we were here on a Friday evening, a busy time. We were sitting by the kitchen. Maybe this made a difference but there was a table there so public observation expected. It was a display of "frazzled frenzy". We ordered an appetizer and drinks first. Drinks came, salads came. We reminded waitress nicely of our appetizer. Meals were delivered by people who were not our waitress. Again we brought our waitress to a screeching halt inquiring about our appetizer and she sad "I suppose you don't want it now". No we didn't . She never looked at us while talking to us, but scanned the room obviously taking stock of what else she had forgotten. I don't know if they were short staffed but it was anything but a nice dining experience. I must say it appeared to me that there was a management philosophy of using as small a staff as possible to "get by". I also know Colton's is not fine dining but we paid good money and that should include good food. I also should not leave feeling like I was herded through the service process reflective of the beef on my plate. read more

Went at lunch today , place was not even a third full. The greater was leaned over desk( with elbows on desk and chin resting on their hands) barely looked our way and in a monotone whiny sounding voice said "Hey". Someone else was standing there and seated us. Our server was good but our order of : a hamburger, fetticinni, a salad and a Hawaiian chicken took over 40 minutes for the kitchen to get the order to our table. Watching other tables as we waited we noticed that everyones order was taking way too long. No explainitions . Left to no one manning the door . This is absolutely my coworker & my favorite place to go for lunch! We always choose it for our office birthdays too. The food is always scrumptious! Especially the chicken fried chicken. We have never had bad service & the majority of the time we have exceptional service. The service alone makes it a favorite. I been in by myself, with a group of 15 (several times) & everywhere in between & nothing changed ~ still excellent! We are almost always in & out in under an hour & if it's over that it's very clear as to why, such as they are super busy (which is reasonable). They seem to be staffed with a good amount of people. Our waitress/waiter have never appeared over worked or stressed out. The gentleman at the front that greets you is so great, he always makes you feel welcome & greets you before you make it all the way inside sometimes. read more

My husband and I have eaten at Colton's before, and we were not impressed. The steaks were overcooked and mostly gristle and fat; the rest of the food was mediocre at best. In addition, the Long Island Iced Tea, which was recommended by the waiter, was the worst drink I've ever had. Tonight, we decide to try it again. We believe in second chances. First off, both restrooms were dirty. Trash was overflowing in the women's restroom and there was urine on the floor in the mens. Because of another review I read, I decided to look in the peanut bucket on our table. I was not surprised to find chewed up peanut shells that someone had spit back in the bucket. Gross. I don't think we would be as upset except for the four employees standing at the hostess table looking bored. We didn't even wait for our food. We went to the Tater Patch instead. read more

I called at 8:22 to place a to go order for one Montana burger. I was told 10-15 minutes. I arrived at 8:30, and parked in the marked spots for to go orders. Several waitresses looked out the window at me, made eye contact, and a few even walked out right past me without saying anything concerning why I was there. After being seen and not acknowledged, I then called to ask if I was supposed to come in. About 5 minutes later (8:44pm) the server brought my bag, didn't say one word to me on who I was, what I ordered, etc (I could've taken someone else's order), she yanked my card out of my fingers and went back inside, leaving the bag in my window. Brought the card back, I signed and she yanked that out of my hand as well and went back inside. After getting home, the food was the worst I've ever had from Rolla's Colton's. There were literally 7 French fries, and the medium well burger was black, burnt black and dry. The car side service has been decreasing significantly in the past few months, as I order quite often, but now am no longer wanting to do so if I'm going to be treated as a bother and receive poor quality food. I don't know what else to do, as I've already attempted to speak to the manager and they hang the phone up every time. read more
