My first visit to this establishment and it will be the last. The evening buffet looked like the lunch menu. No bbq ribs, no smoked sausage etc. It was the standard menu but during dinner time. The green beans, no flavor. The pickled okra tasted like someone had dumped a large amount of tablet salt in to container. The tamales dried up like they had been sitting there for days. The fried chicken needed better seasoning. The fried fish was good but have no idea as to what kind of fish. Overall a pure disappointment. For those that says the food is delicious,obviously you haven't eaten out much to compare too. As much as I dislike Golden Coral it sure bets this establishment. The food was just a meh ok the buffet was very limited on American dishes. Service was decent. I noticed a lot of elder senior citizen people eating here regards to ambience. The reason why I came here because it was lunch time before I head off to Texas after I left Illinois state in the city of Chicago for my long journey and the billboard was showing that the steak was included in the buffet. It was not. I guess you could say it's similar to ponderosa or sizzling when you would have to pay extra for a state and it's very expensive for $19 for a sirloin including your buffet which is another $13 I just went for the buffet. Other than that it's decent but it's not the best in regards to quality of the food .thus the three stars. I took a chance. They charge you $2.89 for beverages. So, you already know what to expect at a roadside buffet off the interstate. Think Golden Corral and Ponderosa had a baby and there you have Sirloin Stockade. You place your order at the counter when you first walk in. There's buffet complete with salad bar and dessert bar. There are also a variety of steak and chicken options along with two seafood options. I went with a ribeye and baked potato. I added the buffet and a drink to round out my experience. Honestly, you could just do the buffet and come out satisfied. They have a generous salad bar with a variety of lettuces, veggies, and dressings. There is also a variety of things that can be loosely described as salad: pasta salads, jello salads, puddings, cottage cheese etc. There were also a couple of soup options to enjoy. The grill area offered catfish and wings. The main buffet had all you home cooked favorites: fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, pot roast, and a variety of vegetables just to name a few. The bakery offers ice cream, cookies, cobbler, cake, and other novelty treats. The ribeye and baked potato were fairly standard. Well seasoned if not a little overcooked. The meal came with a fantastic piece of Texas toast which was a delightful surprise! Kim was my server during my visit. She took good care of me frequently checking in to make sure things were going well for me. ****Just a friendly reminder that the wait staff are tipped workers. First off, if you have any COVID concerns you should pass here. The attitude seems largely "Virus? What virus?" During our visit there was a plexiglass shield at the pay station, and disposable gloves were available to handle the buffet utensils but were largely ignored. That's about it for COVID precautions. Employees were unmasked and ungloved even when servicing food trays. Patrons sat where they wanted and there were no closed tables, both of which mitigated social distancing. Other than that, the large variety of food trays were regularly serviced and updated. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was relatively clean. Food was fresh tasting. I didn't like this place there wasn't many good food options the service was alright they only came up to us like once to grab plates and even then they didn't grab all of them. They never refilled our drinks when they saw we were out and the place itself isn't the cleaning or neatest. I found the cleaning place was probably the restrooms which was surprising. Teenage cashier immediately sneezed on her hand before handing me my receipt, now all I can think about is how many people touched the salad tongs. 17.99 for 6oz filet, salad bar, soda, and "bakery bar." guess we'll see what kind of filet that gets me. Lady just came out and said "there'll be about a 15 min.wait on your filet, is that ok?" I said sure, is it going to be a good filet?" She said, "yes--it's just frozen now--they're defrosting it." Because all the best filets are frozen. Oh well. Filet wasn't terrible, but it tasted like they put some kind of butter substitute on top of it, instead of the real thing.
