We had Columbia Air-Care take care of cleaning our ducts last week. We couldn't be happier. He was on time. Easy to deal with, super pleasant. Took care of his work. Thorough. Friendly. Fairly priced. I would not hesitate to suggest using him for similar work to other folks. In the last few years we have had a lot of work done on our house and it is difficult to find people that have all of the traits mentioned above. Better Air Northwest sent out an estimator (Eric) for free. He was really nice, helpful, and figured out how to solve our issue for a reasonable price! We received the estimate per email a couple days later and unlike other companies, no pressure was put on us to approve the job right away - instead we were given as long as we needed to discuss and ponder. As soon as we approved the estimate, we were contacted so we could get on the schedule. Somehow Edgar and Juan asked and also answered all the questions at the very beginning and we were able to do other things while they did these 2 jobs like the true professionals they are. They started by taping everything in the room with the closet, and it kept everything so clean! (Although they did clean up after - and left the place tidier than it started haha - not even kidding they cleaned our doormat I forgot to clean prior to their arrival!) I was impressed by the process from start to finish and the noticeable difference in air quality afterward. The scheduling process was easy and transparent. I called on a Tuesday, and they were able to fit me within two weeks. The office staff clearly explained the pricing structure (which was fixed based on the size of the house, with optional add-ons like dryer vent cleaning) and sent a confirmation text the day before. The technicians, Andreas & Cody, called me 50 minutes before arrival, right arrived pretty close to the promised time. I knew there was construction down the street so I figured they would be delayed due to stopped traffic. The two arrived in a well-marked truck and was immediately professional. They took time to explain the negative pressure vacuum system they use, which involved hooking up a large hose to the main duct trunk near the furnace. They wore boot covers inside the house, which I appreciated. The cleaning itself involved systematically sealing off all registers and then using powerful air whips into each vent to agitate and loosen all the debris. They showed me the incredible amount of dirt, dust, and junk they removed from the main trunk--it was genuinely shocking and visually compelling. When finished with the vents they took on the dryer. The lint cleaned out of the vent and the filter was surprising. I expect the drying cycles will be quicker with a clean system. The entire process took approximately 5 hours. Once finished, they sealed up the access holes they created cleanly. There were only two rooms where they forgot to move furniture back in place. The immediate difference was significant: the air in the house feels fresher and less "stuffy," and the HVAC system runs noticeably quieter. I am confident that the removal of years of dust and allergens will benefit our household, especially during allergy season. Better Air Northwest delivered exactly what they promised: professional service, clear communication, and excellent results. I highly recommend them if you are looking to improve your indoor air quality.

Their bid was not the lowest, but during the time spent preparing the bid they really convinced me that they knew what they were doing and would not cut any corners. The dispatcher asked great questions like "can we find your house on a nav system", and "do you have cell service at your house". (Yes, and no.) Most people don't think to ask those questions, which can cause a lot of headaches. Also they called to confirm the night before--very thoughtful because I had completely forgotten! The technicians (Mike and Dean) were right on time, wearing masks and gloves, as well as shoe coverings. They worked around my home-office meeting schedule so I didn't have to worry about noise during critical parts where I needed to be speaking to my coworkers. I couldn't believe the stuff they found in my air ducts! (Pictured below, NOT including the dead mouse.) They also showed me pictures of the insides of my ducts, including a few areas that need replacing (they don't do that kind of work, but it's great to know, I would have never thought about that). I was pleasantly surprised that Whirlwind could make it out the next day. Turns out they are great at what they do. Ivan spoke with me on the phone to discuss what was wrong and what might be the cause that night. The next morning, he was here by 9:30am to trouble shoot. Within an hour the A/C was up and running and Ivan had put everything back as it was. Costs were very reasonable and, more importantly, they were exactly as stated before arrival. They came to our house told us everything was very dirty and that everything will need to be brushed no vacuumd so our Groupon was worthless. $450 for a half done job(see pictures of AFTER the original work was done). We requested a detailed invoice of the service and when we didn't receive it I called to find out what the delay was. The person I spoke to just kept reiterating the same thing over and over. How dirty everything was and how they cleaned it and I was to prove to him where it was still dirty. Mind you he was looking at this very same review while on the phone. I had…read morehired Molalla Plumbing 3 years ago to perform the same work and the guy that came out was amazing. He not only cleared the drain but he cleaned up after himself and left my home in perfect condition. So this time, when the drain once again quit draining, I called Molalla Plumbing. They were able to come out the next afternoon and a different guy than last time came out to do the un-stopping of the drain. The problems started when the snake he was using made a turn and instead of continuing down the main drain line from the kitchen, went up the drain line into the bathroom where it knocked off the bathroom sink drain pipe and spewed nasty stinky almost-black "stuff" in the area under the sink (by the way, it's never a good thing when you hear the person doing the work say "uh oh"). I had been sitting in the living room and I heard him ask if I had any towels that he could use and of course I pulled out a couple of towels for him to sop up the mess on the floor (he had also turned on the water at the sink faucet before he realized that the drain line had come apart so there was also fresh water pouring into the space under the sink.) He had removed the items under the sink (fabric softener, clothes soap, cleanser, etc.) to put the pipe back together and then he put all the things back under the sink and closed the cabinet doors. I paid the bill (which turned out to have a bigger surcharge for using my debit card than he told me it would be) and as the guy was leaving, I asked him if there was anything I needed to do about the bathroom and he said "no." After he left, I decided to check under the sink and found that nothing had been cleaned and that the mat under the items was soaked with the wet stinky gross mess. He had just put everything back without cleaning anything. It took me more than a half hour to pull the items out and clean them off (some things had to be hosed off outside because they were so covered in that stinky stuff I couldn't get them clean any other way). The mat had to be thrown away; it was not recoverable. Wished I'd taken pics but all I could think of was to get it cleaned up before it all dried! So, 2 stars ("could've been better") for a kitchen sink that actually drains now but docked 3 stars for the mess that was left and the bill being more than I was told it would be. Next time I'll be calling someone else.

Update following the company's response:…read more I want to clarify one point raised in the owner's reply so readers understand the concern accurately. Yes, I mentioned that I would prefer the panels be placed on the rear of the home if possible. That was simply an aesthetic preference and not a design requirement. I relied on the company's expertise to determine whether that placement would still allow the system to reasonably meet the goals discussed during the sales process. I also want to be clear that the system functioning is not the issue. We appear to agree that the equipment is producing energy as designed. The production numbers themselves have never been what I questioned. The concern I raised relates to how the system size and expectations were presented during the sales process. When we explored going solar, the conversations centered around offsetting most or all of our electric bill, which was the primary reason we decided to move forward with a $20,000 installation. If it had been clearly communicated that the system was intended to be a smaller "starter system" that would only offset a portion of our electricity usage, we likely would have approached the decision differently or waited until we had a longer utility history available. Another important point is that no written proposal or modeling documentation outlining the assumed household usage or projected offset was ever provided prior to signing. Because those design assumptions were never shared with us in writing, it has been difficult to understand how the system size was determined relative to our expected energy needs. As a result, we are now paying a monthly solar loan while still carrying a meaningful electric bill, which is not the outcome we understood or expected when making this investment. At this point, I have shared my experience and clarified the concerns raised. I do not intend to continue a public back-and-forth discussion on this review. My purpose in posting this update is simply to provide context so other homeowners researching solar know to request clear written modeling and offset assumptions before making a significant investment.

The scope of work included containment and removal of contamination, installation of a new vapor barrier, rodent exclusion in the crawl space, replacement of a damaged vent termination, and installation of vent wells around the entire house. The technicians showed up on time every day, dressed in uniform, and arrived in company vehicles. They were clean, conscientious, and respectful--never leaving behind a trace of debris. During the project, there was a brief miscommunication. We contacted the office, and they had the owner, Chris Gage, personally call us.
