First off - this place has no right to be as absolutely adorable, cozy, and phenomenal as it is! The Dundee Bistro is tucked away in this tiny little wine country town in Oregon, and it's truly the perfect stop for a delicious lunch, a glass of local wine, or just to browse their charming little market. Inside, they have a small shop area featuring locally made goodies: honey, cheeses, cured meats, wines, and other treats. You order at the walk-up counter where the menu includes freshly made sandwiches, soups, chilis, salads, and other local favorites. Everything is made to order and comes out quickly. I ordered the Dundee Grinder, and it was absolutely fantastic, packed with flavor and definitely not stingy on the ingredients. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality and freshness of the food. The staff was kind, helpful, and efficient, which made the whole experience even better. There are a few tables inside and a lovely outdoor patio in the back with a fireplace and a rain cover, perfect for enjoying your meal no matter the weather. Every little detail here, from the food to the ambiance, feels so thoughtful and welcoming. If you're in the Dundee area or wine tasting nearby, this spot is a must-visit. We recently came to Dundee Bistro for a birthday dinner and had a good time. Our waitress was kind and the ambiance was nice. The cocktails were made quickly and tasted good. The appetizers were delicious and fed a large party without us having to order multiples of each dish. For an entree, I had the pork, which I felt was a bit overcooked and lacking in flavor. One of the things I found oddest about the evening was the hours of the restaurant. We dined here on a Saturday night at 7:30 - immediately after we were sat we were told we needed to order promptly because the kitchen closes at 8:00. I still don't quite understand why you would allow reservations so close to a kitchen's closing time. It ended up making the meal feel a bit rushed and lackluster. Overall, it was a perfectly adequate meal but I'm not sure I would need to stop in here again. read more

We decided to have a cosmopolitan to start the evening and let me tell you this was in fact the very best cosmopolitan that we have ever had collectively we agreed . The juice was very fresh with a sliced fresh lime and crushed ice on top.. so delicious. The food was also very delicious. I have been to Dundee Bistro several times and have had great service. The food has mostly been good. This last trip was a rough patch which I am hoping was just bad day for the chef. My steak, ordered Med Rare was well done and had zero seasoning on it. No salt, no pepper, no flavor. My mother ordered salmon which was bland as did my wife. Both said they must have forgot the seasoning. Now dont get me wrong, this place is usually spot on and we will try it again. I am hoping this was a one off where the chef was having a bad day. The wine selection is wonderful and the prices are reasonable. the brussel sprouts are excellent! The last steak I had (3 or so months ago) was done perfectly. I could have sent it back but I was in a hurry and hungry. I would still recommend Dundee Bistro and am not letting this one time keep me away. read more

What a disappointment. That's the best way to describe this experience. Unedible. The best way to describe the food. I have been to The Dundee Bistro several times, but not since Covid, and have always had a fantastic meal. Which is why we booked reservations here after a wine tasting and pick up near by. Will cut right to the chase. We were a party of five, three adults, two kids. Only one person liked their meal which was a Cesar salad and margarita pizza. The rest of us took one or two bites and literally could not eat any more. Now the details. As soon as we were seated, the waiter took our wine order and meals for the kids first. Perfect. One ordered the adult bistro burger which is $23. He took two bites and said he couldn't eat it, tasted bad. The other had the kids pasta, a fusilli with red sauce, she said it was ok. We got the brussel sprouts as an appetizer and they were very good, crisp, and had a scattering of hazelnuts. For my dinner I ordered the pork tenderloin. It had been marinated in herbs and was coated in more herbs, and the smell of rosemary was overpowering. Hungry, I took an bite and could hardly get it down. The rosemary and herbs so overpowering and the meat was tough and over cooked. If I didn't know it was pork, I would have thought it was some type if game meat. strong smell, tough, inedible. I put my fork down knowing I couldn't swallow another bite. It was terrible. A friend got the salmon. Three bites, and done. The other friend who made the right choice, enjoyed her salad and half the margarita pizza. She offered us each a slice but at that point, I just wanted to leave. Our wine never came. We inquired and were told they ran out of wine glasses. What? We are in wine country! And it wasn't even crowded. The waiter came back and as I started to tell him about the tenderloin - and for the record, first time in my life I returned something because it tasted so bad - and before I could finish my sentence, he finished it for me saying is it too tough? Yes! And overpowered by herbs. He offered to bring me the bucatini with arugula pesto and shrimp and took the tenderloin off the bill. The pasta arrived. bucatini cooked perfectly al dente. The arugula pesto very bitter for obvious reasons. The shrimp was small and didn't look good so I didn't eat them. Two bites of pasta - and pasta is my lifeblood - and I was done. Still no wine. We told him to just forget about it. A few minutes later he showed up with one glass split three ways so we all had a taste. For the prices, $28 for a tiny pasta dish for example, and the terrible tasting food, I am never coming back. The one star is because Yelp forces you to give at least one and I'll attribute it to the waiter who without question took the one meal back and off the bill. A group of seven of us recently went to the Dundee Bistro for dinner. We were greeted very amicably. However, that changed as the evening went on. We asked for separate checks. Our waiter said they normally only issue 4, but he intimated that he would get separate ones for us. Food: Pork tenderloin was over cooked. The Ahi on the Nicoise salad was over cooked. Salmon was good. I had to summon the serve gal as our waiter never showed up again to give us our checks. The Manager came to the table with one check and not very nicely said they do not do separate checks. One of the gals got up and talked with someone about giving us separate checks. The waiter came back with the separate checks and gave them to us in a very unfriendly manner. What started out as a friendly, fun evening was soured by attitude of the management. read more

We dined here in early October. It was not busy & we had a reservation but we had to wait too long to be seated. Waitress was pleasant and made a wine recommendation. Ambience was okay but could have been more inviting. My pork dish was overcooked and the sauce not as flavorful as expected. The pasta entree was reasonably good. My wife and I have been to the Dundee Bistro many times in the past and considered it a place we would recommend to others. Tonight's experience was however decidedly underwhelming. Issues were clearly related to management. Our waitress was very attentive and working very hard, but as far as I could tell, she was the only one working on a Saturday evening - she was sweating from trying to cover all the tables. We arrived at 5:30pm and were informed they were out of standard menu items such as clams and asparagus . The cobwebs hanging from the kitchen lights indicate a lack of attention to detail. The menu was OK but it lacks the imagination I was used to. For example there were no entree specials at all. A little energy and imagination would go a long way to make it a go to destination again. read more

Major issue came with ordering a glass of wine manager type came up and definitely felt like I was being talked down to because I didn't know all that much about wine, young kid mustache. The waiter later told me that was one of the owners Sons. Not a fan of having myself belittled nor was partner, disrespectful. The waiter himself was nice older gentleman. Food was bland, pizza burnt crust on the bottom. Open kitchen appreciate that. Lots of chaos certain aspects of the dish were hot. Others were cold nothing cohesive.. I've waited 3 years to try this place and I'm upset with myself for waiting so long. This place is great for date night! The atmosphere is cozy with a fancy feel. The main dining area has a fireplace and there's also a nice quiet bar to sit in. We chose to sit in the bar and our server/bartender took great care of us. We ordered 2 appetizers to start, truffle fries and the soup of the day. Both delicious. I highly recommend the Asian pear martini and the old fashioned for drinks. We sipped on them throughout our meal. For dinner we had the pizza special and the burger. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. My ham pizza with mozzarella and caramelized onions was spectacular. The portions were just right, filled us up without leaving us feeling sick or feeling like we over did it. The flourless chocolate torte was our dessert, complete with a birthday candle. I felt very special and my birthday dinner couldn't be better. I'm very excited to come back here regularly as I learned they do have daily happy hour. I love Dundee and this place is truly a gem. read more

We love Dundee Bistro and have been coming for years. Our visit tonight, however, was a huge disappointment. First, let me say that our server was excellent, and the service personnel were friendly, attentive, and efficient. The poor food preparation is what ruined it for us. My wife ordered the lamb chops, which were breaded and fried. That's an interesting variation that could have been delicious. Instead, they were overcooked and almost tasteless. They didn't appear to have any seasoning. I ordered a ribeye. It too lacked seasoning. It was also one of the toughest cuts of meat that I've had in a long while. My potatoes were bland as well. The Dundee Bistro was our dinner destination at the end of an afternoon of wine tasting. Having been here in the past we knew we were in for some great food. We started with an appetizer of Brussel sprouts which was a huge portion. My traveling companions had burgers, one an apple bacon burger and the other the Bistro burger. They each only finished half as the burgers were huge. I had the steamed clam appetizer for my main, and I too could only finish half of it. The portion filled a large bowl, with broth and bread. Delicious! We were there on a Tuesday so seating was quick, we chose outside with the warm weather, and our wait staff was friendly and attentive (unfortunately I didn't get their names). Had dinner here and it was good, but we had some rough patches along the way. I started with their famous roasted Brussel sprouts which were good, then moved to filet, it was cooked perfectly but the mash potatoes that comes with this, was a bit too rich and had a slight sweetness to it. I'm not sure if the butter was a sweetened butter or what, but I wasn't feeling it. I had like 3 bites and was done. We had a party of four and they got the wrong dish on one of our party, they took it back and made the correct dish. Service was really trying hard to please, I think they were training new folks because, we received someone else's drink. I still think this is a 4 star experience and I think they will work out the rough patches, I will revisit this summer. We've eaten there over many years. Tonight was the worst meal ever. The Caesar salad was way too salty. The Salmon was overcooked and the veggies under salted. Prawn fettuccine, the prawns were undercooked and the fettuccine was sticky. The crème brûlée didn't have enough crust. At least the wine was good. This was okay. Everything was just okay. The service wasn't great, the soup's texture was strange. It was stringy? The mimosa was actually the worst mimosa I've ever had. I drank it, but I would never get it again. The burrata was the best part of the meal, but wasn't even a great texture for burrata. It was more like caprese, but that wasn't a problem. The cake was okay, too, but nothing special. Everything was just... fine, or subpar. Fantastic All the Way Around!!! My husband and I are here visiting and at one of our wine tastings was told to try The Dundee Bistro. What a quaint, classy little gem! We were greeted immediately by a lovely man who ended up serving us and talking with us during the evening. We started with the Brussels sprouts, Amazing! Then onto a wedge salad, BEST EVER! Both my husband and I had pasta dishes, Fantastically delicious! Then carrot cake for dessert. Perfect! Fernando, the manager, was our server and so were other lovely servers. Very attentive, kind and very personable! The food was top notch and the ambiance was perfect. We went back for another excellent meal before flying home. What can I say? I have been here a couple of times and both were good experiences. Our 27 anniversary was spent in the Oregon wine country. We visited first Stoller (what a heart) Family Estate,, the Flaneur and finally WillaKenzie. Then we were hungry. Went to Dundee's Dundee Bistro to scratch that itch. We shared a lovely, architectural Caesar salad which came with little anchovy fillets on the side to make a point. Yummy! Enough for two. I had the clams with broth and French bread. Yummy too, if a bit too salty, ok the broth was way too salty the bread was delish. My husband had the spaghetti pasta with shrimp. He reported it to be good. I, had I ordered it, would have been disappointed with the three largish shrimp, but others may not share that opinion. All in all, the food and service was good. We stopped in on a pouring down rain early dinner hour (5:00 pm ish, two of us). The young hostess was very unwelcoming and snooty when we asked if they had room for two. There were many open tables but she made it clear walk-ins were VERY frowned upon. There's a bar attached to the place and hardly anyone in there, so we asked if we could wait over in the bar (which is very large area) for a table or even make it easy to order some appetizers in the bar instead? She said she has to go ask some man first. Then returned to state the bartender is short staffed so there won't be any food service there tonight. Ooookay. No problem. Moving on. lol. Trying to be a patron seemed like an inconvenience to this place. We would have probably shared a bottle of wine, waited patiently for a table or shared an appetizer and then ordered a very nice dinner. Instead we moved on and did just that down the street at a lovely restaurant who were welcoming. There's a quote that's really applicable here. " It's not what people say that you remember, but how they make you feel". The young hostess should be trained a bit more on customer engagement. We know the value of this as owners of a local winery ourselves who caters to both reservations and walk-ins. We never let them walk out if it's packed and table seating is difficult, instead we strive to work something out to accommodate kindly. My wife and I came here for lunch the day after our wedding to celebrate with a nice meal. We ordered the focaccia bread and brussel sprouts as our appetizer. The focaccia bread was very bland and we had to add our own salt to give it some flavor. The brussel sprouts were almost all extremely over cooked and very bitter, the brussel sprouts that weren't over cooked were tasty though although there weren't many. The only redeeming factor were the main courses. I ordered the filet and my wife ordered the Gorgonzola pasta. The filet, potatoes, and Pinot Noir demi-glace were amazing. My wife enjoyed her pasta but it was very rich and she could not eat a lot. The service was pretty good and quick, although we were one of three customers in the restaurant at the time. This place is quite good and better than many of the upscale places in the area, most of which are disappointing. The alfresco area is nice (although it looks out on a parking lot) and is pet-friendly. Service is excellent and it was nice that all the waiters were experienced adults as opposed to college kids. They did seem a bit sloppy/eager to wrap things up as we arrived about 40 minutes before the kitchen closed. The kitchen does a good job but needs to maintain focus on details. The brussel sprouts were surprisingly good. They would be even better if they were cooked just slightly less and without such a heavy hand on the salt and syrup which overwhelmed the delicate veggies. Splendid with the Stoller chardonnay - light with nicely balanced fruit and citrus notes. The burger is outstanding. Huge tasty beef patty with cheese and provolone in a proper toasted brioche bun. The truffle fries are over the top. Ours were just slightly under-cooked but still tasty. Wow! Elk ragu was nice and a unique. As others have said the elk is pretty lean which makes it taste sort of dry and flavorless but quite tender. Noodles and gravy were good. It was heavy on mushrooms and light on meat. The paired '17 Stoller pinot was fabulous. We finished with crème brûlée which was also excellent - wonderful soft custard, still cool at the bottom, warmer near the top and splendid glazed sugar top. Perfectly cooked in what was likely a broiler or salamander not a "cheat" blowtorch. We'll be back! read more

Before making our decision on where to go to dine on Friday night, not being from Oregon, we travelled to visit this gorgeous wine country region for the first time, all the way from Washington DC, we decided to look up at our options for dining out, not many popped up in Dundee, one stood up with some recent mixed reviews. We were tired, so we ended up trying it and without making a reservation. We entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the Host, he asked us if we had a reservation, and we replied that we did not, we could see that the restaurant was busy, his response was breathtaking and not usually heard, he said "let me check with the server, and if he can't I will personally take care of you myself within 2 minutes. Well, I came to find out that the host was the General Manager, as he had promised and within the 2 minutes that we were given, at first based on our own observation, we though it to be unrealistic, he ended up as he had promised serving us and made us feel right at home, funny and warm, coursed out all selections and gave us suggestions on wine pairings, the filet mignon is out of this world and so were the Scallops wrapped in prosciutto, we had an memorable experience and so glad we pick the Bistro, everyone from the kitchen and support staff were working hard, attentive and very friendly. Being myself a restaurateur with my own 2 restaurants, I was glad to see that fundamental standards are still around and well, my point being, I would not miss out on this one. What a restaurant gem!! We will be back before going back home, to share again in person how grateful we are for the warm, sincere, and loving welcoming to Oregon and wine country. What a gem!!!
