In my most recent visit, the staff was very kind to help me check in the back to see if they had my size for a jacket I was interested in. They also entertained my "which color should i get" first world dilemma. I ended up getting a jacket for over 50% off what it currently retails for. The items are still quite pricey, but when you find a great deal, you find a great deal.

I signed up for a day-long excursion to Slide Mountain. For a reasonable fee: I was picked up & dropped off at a convenient location and provided with all the outdoor gear I needed for the trip, i.e. snowshoes, walking poles, microspikes and crampons. The group was small - 4 of us total - which made for a more chummy experience. I love the outdoors and grew up camping in the summertime- but wanted to whet my appetite for snow sports and outdoor winter activities. This is perfect for a fit, active person who likes the outdoors and wants to try different things out before committing to purchasing equipment. Having the proper gear prior to these excursions is crucial and owning it can become expensive. This is a happy medium where you can try things out before making the commitment. If you get a good group dynamic, you can end up with built-in hiking buds, which is a huge bonus :) I cannot recommend Gear To Go Outfitters enough for renting outdoor gear and especially for their guided trips. I think this will be the first of the many and have definitely opened up an entire world of outdoor winter activities for me!

I've never had a business owner act so unprofessionally and in such an undignified manner. I would have gladly updated this review with a positive if he had approached this in a fair, polite manner. Instead, he insulted, threatened and even charged me more money because he had the ability to. He used the excuse of "damaged items" (btw, one of our tents came with a hole patched with scotch tape), and claimed we stole stakes from the tents. When I told him that we never received stakes, he flippantly told me "Well you signed the delivery papers, it's not my problem! Why don't you look around harder, check your car!" ... we had never received stakes. He then proceeded to charge me $163 for the "stolen" stakes. I am glad I had the thought to record the entire phone conversation. I only wish Yelp had an option to post the recording... There are many other places to rent your tents from, save yourself the time, money, and after-trip stress. They are thieves...

For those of you were haven't been to a Sierra picture a Marshall's or TJ Maxx but for outdoor active consumers (owned by same parent company). You can literally find everything from shoes to swimwear to ski gear, shorts and tees. The list goes on and on. Lots of name brands and high quality items. Water bottles, socks, skateboards and I recall seeing a kayak at some point. Point is if you are looking for anything to either wear under or over or by itself within the active bracket come here. You'll find accessories along the way. The store is clean, organized and the staff has always been very friendly. In fact since I've been coming here there are a few loyal workers who have been with me since the beginning. It's always nice to see a familiar face. What frustrated me was the lack of care (and attention) for how long the line was. The cashiers didn't even notice, or try to ring items up a bit faster. Manager moved even slower so no help there. The woman that rang me up had to switch registers due to a glitch on the computer- no problem. The speed at which she was moving, problem, because it caused the line to get backed up and people were getting impatient. She assumed my frustration was due to switching to a new register- it wasn't. It was the lack of attention from both cashiers about how quickly the line was building and adapting, aka doing your best to get people in and out. Now I don't know if this was the best they could do or if they were new but this whole experience could have been better. Instead the two cashiers chitchatted about everything under the sun, slowly typed in peoples' emails, slowly asked about signing up for a card, slowly took the tags off, and slowly packed everything into the bag. This is why Sierra has a ton of online orders- too slow when you come into the store which is unfortunate because the store has good stuff. Dear Sierra, please train cashiers to move quickly when lines are long and more importantly, having the awareness to notice that.
