Stopped in on a whim on a Sunday afternoon. Columbia Street Seafood is an old Covington staple that serves Louisiana style fried seafood in traditional abundance. Po'Boys, chicken , and salads are also available, with food being served fresh and prodigiously portioned. Today we had catfish platters and they were very good. Catfish was hot, fresh, tender, and crispy. Seasoning was moderate. While most orders seemed to be pick-up, and a lot of the business is live crawfish, bulk shrimp, etc., a small area is available for dining-in and outside. Service is friendly and efficient, and prices are competitive. Passed by this spot last week and it caught my attention with how steady and busy it was. I stopped in to try crawfish but they ran out, so I knew I'd have to catch them another time earlier in the day. Was able to grab some crawfish today, and although I ordered to-go, I was impressed with the service. The crawfish were hot in temperature with a good flavor. Very good, we tried the oyster poboy, chicken wrap, chicken wings, onion rings, and fries and all of it was very good. They have a lot of wing flavors and the Asian ginger is fantastic. The chicken wrap was also very good for only 9$. The pivot was huge and packed full of meat. And the sides were crispy with a great flavor. Food came out in about 8 minutes which is quick for such a large order. Restaurant is small on the inside but has plenty of tables. All seafood is on ice for you to see. Love this crawfish and southern foods spot! They had friendly staff there and the BEST crawfish and seafood plates! It's flavorful, hot and just the right amount of spicy. You can also purchase live crawfish by the sacks. They also serve crabs as well when in season and if you time it right you can order both crawfish and crabs at the same time. The fried seafood plate is sooo good. They fry it fresh and in a seasoned cornmeal batter. I live an hour away but was definitely blown away at how good it was. MAJOR SLAY, everything was so good and they got it out really fast, like 5 minutes or so after ordering. My po boy was super stuffed and dressed and the boudin balls were great. Really good place to get a seafood fix. Got the fried oyster po boy, onion rings and seafood kickers. The po boy was so tasty. The bread was a little thinner (thabk goodness) than other po boys i've had, but it gave me a better taste of the oysters and fixins. The onion rings were fried just right. The seafood kickers were like a hush puppy that was stuffed with crab and shrimp, YES!! And my sister got jalapeno poppers and a shrimp po boy and really liked hers as well. Upon opening the lid on the gumbo, I couldn't wait to dive in and burned the heck out of the roof of my mouth. But one must soldier on. And did I!! While the hush puppies weren't much to look at, you can't judge the beauty on the inside by the appearance. SOOO perfectly done. Crisp outside and soft (not mushy) inside. Not too dense, but not flaky. The shrimp, perfectly boiled. The gumbo, perfectly seasoned. If I were staying longer in the area I would definitely stop back and try other items. They have a nice selection of fresh fish, and sell crawfish by huge bagfuls. I didn't hear the actual order of the gentleman in front of me, but he was presented with what looked like the fixings of a crawfish boil in a bag - corn and red potatoes included. I bought a 34 pound sack of live crawfish from Columbia st. After picking out dead crawfish for 30 mins we decided to give up and just boil them and make eye contact with every crawfish to see if the eyes were green. The picture shown are all dead crawfish. Rotted greenish white eyed dead crawfish. That's not showing the amount we found while we were cleaning them. 34 pounds of crawfish with well over 10 pounds inedible. I have eaten Shrimp PO Boys all over Louisiana. This is hands down the best, freshest Shrimp PO Boy. The bread is prefect. It is made fresh each day by a small local bakery. I took a friend of mine there and he had the Shrimp PO Boy. He was born and raised in Lower Louisiana. He also proclaimed it to be the best Shrimp PO Boy he has eaten. Very small place.
