My wife and I enjoyed Sunday lunch at Buster's Place in downtown Covington today. Buster's is a longtime favorite of many, with its persona being a sort of small town cafe - sports bar - neighborhood hangout kind of place. The ambiance is laid back, the people friendly, and the service efficient and welcoming. Today, Kylie took excellent care of us. The menu is varied with appetizers, oysters, shrimp, chicken, steaks, burgers, specialty sandwiches, and several traditional Louisiana favorites. The beer list is ample and a number of specialty cocktails are available, as are several desserts. Today I had the Caesar salad with chicken, which was good and my wife had crab cakes with a side salad. She thought the crab cakes were very good; moderately seasoned and prodigiously portioned. Buster's Place is worth your visit for a casual lunch or dinner. I understand that there is an occasional "steak night" that many enjoy. read more

Mediocre food at best. Skip it! Unless you love seafood gumbo with zero seafood. Should be called rice and gravy.

The food was mediocre, the service was okay. It's a total dive bar atmosphere which we enjoy, but this place smelled and you left smelling like it. Unfortunately, it's not a place we'll be heading back to. read more

We biked to Covington from Mandeville. When we stopped at the bike shop they recommended Buster's. When we got there we remembered that we were here two years ago. We really enjoyed the oysters again. Both broiled and raw oysters with a side of seafood gumbo. The best oysters I've had in a long time. read more

Busters is a gem in the heart of downtown, and I only wish I'd tried it sooner. It stays away from the fancy that everywhere in Covington is becoming, but it's clean and has a great local watering hole vibe, I love the neon. Servers and bar staff, and even kitchen staff when walking by are very friendly and attentive. Great oysters, onion rings and wings. The beer is always icy cold. My only wish is they would get some bigger TVs for football season, I would definitely be there every weekend if there were! read more

the wife and I went to eat at Busters on Friday March 20th 2026 around 7pm. We sat by the kitchen, the kitchen is open so you can see everything that's going on as I'm looking at the grill cook he is not wearing any gloves while handing raw fish as he puts the fish on the grill he wipes his hands on his shirt and paints then he grabs hamburger patties to put on the grill then turning around wiping his hands on his clothes, no one in the kitchen has on a apron the only one that has gloves on is the fry cook but his touching everything like coolers to get seafood out to flour he grabs a dirty towel to wipe down the work station and still has on the same gloves and goes back to flour the seafood the grill cook goes into the cooler to grab a steak with his bare hands, no gloves he also grabs a dirty towel to wipe down parts of the grill no gloves continuing to grab food with his bare hands. the person working the window who is putting the plates of food for the servers to grab is not wearing gloves. I see him grab a bun to throw it on the grill to toast it up. this place is not sanitary by any stretch of the word. The health department needs to go undercover and see this first-hand and shut this place down before somebody gets food poison. read more

I am a fan of Buster. I find that their food is good although the softshell crabs are an exception don't get that. I used to go for the oysters. And they've been good and they've been a decent size but the last time we went it was Wednesday was anybody there before 5 o'clock shut down order couple dozen. Oysters oysters and they were pitifully small. That's unusual for this time of year but what happens is the guy shocking the day was taking all the decent size oysters and putting them aside for charbroil you can see about 20 trays of raw oysters stacked up and they were all nice size so basically we got ripped off in my opinion. Next time I go there I'm gonna tell him either give me some decent size oysters or I'm not getting them. Oh another thing horseradish is terrible totally dead no heat or taste whatsoever. I need to buy decent horseradish we can do it. I've been a restaurant that good stuff. read more

My family and I Stopped at Busters Place while on a Road Trip. I searched on Yelp for "Best Restaurant" in Covington, LA, and Busters came up as one of the top options. I chose Busters because, through the pictures, I could tell they had a live atmosphere. Busters is located on Boston Street; I did not notice a restaurant parking lot or immediate street parking but parked a couple of blocks away and walked to Busters Oyster Bar. It was nice to walk because this is a beautiful historic area, and it was nicely lit up with Christmas lights. Once at the restaurant, the atmosphere did not disappoint; we experienced outstanding customer service. The food was delicious and served promptly. Busters Oysters Bar cocktails were potent. For dinner, I ordered the Pontchartrain Red Fish blackened, and I was delighted. For dessert, I ordered the gourmet turtle cheesecake, and it was terrific. We had a great time. Busters Oyster Bar is great for groups. We are looking forward to coming back. read more

We went last night. Drove an hour to get there and it was worth it, I would have driven two hours for that food. First of all we each had a dozen raw oysters. I've been eating raw oysters for 50 years and these oysters were by far the prettiest, largest BEST TASTING oysters I have ever had. We then shared a seafood platter. I wanted the fried catfish. There were at least 6 pieces on the platter. I got all I wanted and there were still some left. They were absolutely delicious. My husband said the shrimp & oysters were extremely good too. We shared the platter and still brought some home. We shared a slice of key lime pie abd the creaminess was the perfect ending of the meal. The wait staff were perfect, attentive but not hovering. I loved the building. Wish I could give them a 20! Do yourself a favor and go try them. They are perfect in my opinion. read more

Though I now live in Houston, I've been coming to Buster's Place for several years and have never had a bad experience. Every time I visit home, it's one of my "must-go" places. Back in the day, I would order the shrimp poboy and bisque dinner combo - then I had to cut gluten for medical reasons. I now get the grilled shrimp platter, and they'll easily substitute a baked potato or steamed veggies for fries (though I usually risk cross-contamination because their fries are GOOD). When we came in Saturday evening, there was a brief wait until we were seated. Every TV had an NFL game on, and it was quite lively. I ordered my usual - the grilled shrimp, and my dad had the tuna with a baked potato. I don't know what they season their shrimp with, but they were absolutely perfect. He's commented on how good his tuna and potato were a few times. Service has consistently been phenomenal, and the food is consistently fresh and hot. I love getting a table by the window to watch downtown Covington, but if you're coming in on the weekend, good luck. It's busy (for a good reason), and there will probably be a wait. On Saturdays, they run an $18.99 dinner special with grilled redfish, steak, or prime rib paired with steamed veggies and a salad. We didn't notice the sign until after we ate - otherwise, we would have taken advantage of it. When I got married, we recommended Buster's to family and friends who came in town for our wedding. My MIL said it was the best seafood she had, and she's dying to come back. read more

We ordered the catfish poboy, tuna steak, and sides if red beans/rice a This was one if the few places open in Downtown Covington the Sunday of LDW, so we decided to stop in for lunch. The place was full of patrons and busy. The staff was very helpful and did their best to have us served in a timely manner. I know staffing issues are rampant in town, so I understand the slower service. However, the food was mediocre at best. My tuna was incredibly dry and flavorless, with the accompanying vegetables and salad straight from the freezer and bagged salad sections of the a local grocery. My husband's catfish poboy lacked flavor, but was fried perfectly. Our sides of red beans/rice and gumbo were fine. I would like to return for the items the restaurant is known for and then rereview. My takeaways are that more variety to the menu and fresher ingredients would make a vast improvement. read more

We came for the OYSTERS! 1 dozen "Char Oys" for $20.99-fantastic char broiled oysters! Good cold local Abita bottle of beer ($4.25). On the other hand, the crab stuffed jalapeños ($9.99)& bowl of seafood bisque ($8.49) were okay, but nothing to rave about on Yelp about. Lots of locals having lunch here. It was Saturday, 21 NOV 2020, and we spent the day in Covington visiting a few family members. It was just before 5 PM and we had one more family visit to go, but decided to eat early before the area restaurants started to get crowded. We were in old town Covington and happened to drove right by Buster's Place. The neon lights inside were calling out to me to try this place so I whipped around the block and parked my vehicle. A quick look at Yelp revealed a 3-star rating, which is just so-so in my book; however, we decided to give it a try and were very happy that we did. The restaurant was already a little crowded for it being so early and we were asked if we had reservations. Things began to look bleak, but we were fortunate enough to get a corner table right by the window overlooking E. Boston St. Just a few minutes later, I watched another party get turned away for not having a reservation, as the restaurant was near COVID capacity. Our server, whose name escapes me, was very friendly and even though she had a lot of tables, she was "on top of her game". My son's chicken tenders were just average but the sweet potato fries were good. My wife's crab cakes were definitely good and had a good crabmeat to breadcrumb ratio. I got the softshell crab po-boy with a side of cheese fries. The po-boy was the star of the show and was cooked to perfection. The sandwich actually had 2 "small" crabs, one for each half of my po-boy and was served dressed with remoulade sauce. The cheese fries, although good, could have used a little more cheese, but I love cheese and can never get "too much". The restaurant is dimly lit, and although not a dive bar, the huge neon lit bar lends a homey/divey feeling that is most pleasant. I would bet a lot of the customers are regulars, especially since it was steak night. We truly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be going back. Not sure how Buster's got a 3-star rating, but I am definitely a fan and stand by my 4-star rating. read more

Such good bar food! I wish I had taken photos of my burger. I had the whole dat and it was cooked just as I asked with a tasty char. I subbed out sweet potato fries and was not disappointed. Good service. Kids' meals were well sized and they enjoyed them very much. All around a good quick dinner when you don't want to cook and want something tasty and close by. read more

I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED to say that I'm not a fan of Buster's Place! If I wanted Popeye's red beans, I would've went to them for lunch. If I wanted 3 catfish nuggets for lunch, I would've brought my 5 year old. This type of service is shameful, especially being that it's near New Orleans. I had "Acme Oyster House" while I was near Gulf Shores, AL and I absolutely loved it. While I was heading through New Orleans, I thought I would check it out again. The French Quarter's location was slammed so I decided to check out another location on the way out of NOLA. Apple Maps had a location listed in Baton Rouge and Covington, LA. I opted for the closer Covington. So imagine my shock when I arrived at "Buster's Place" rather than "Acme Oyster House." For time's sake, I ate at "Buster's." The atmosphere was the best thing about the place. If I'd made the trip expecting to eat at "Buster's", my review may be different. It was all ok, but that's all. Nothing to write home about. The soft shell crab po boy was bland, the bread was dry. Red beans and rice? meh. Jambalaya? ok My wife's burger: not bad. My first reaction was to give this place 1 star but I think that had more to do with my expectations of eating at "Acme." Okayness coming in at two stars. read more

The chargrilled oysters had nothing on them but cheese and the raw oysters were tiny. I've been putting this one off. We've been going to Buster's for a while now and the food and service are always wonderful. We almost always get some oysters and they are served cold and salty. Tonight we decided to try the ribs, instead, because we were taking the order to go. While they had a good flavor, they were pretty dried out by the time we got ours on the plate. In speaking with the staff, they are cooked every morning, so it's likely these just managed to dry out over the course of the day. I bet they are delicious for lunch, though! Too, maybe we just got a bad rack. That's no excuse for the sweet potato fries, though, which were under-cooked, limp, and cold. We ordered a shrimp poboy for the lovely bartender next door at Wharton's and she said it was delicious. Don't think this turns me off of Buster's, though! The food here is always delicious, just maybe avoid the ribs if it's late in the day (it was pretty late). Besides, who wants to eat ribs sitting at a bar anyway, amiright? read more
