My HJM Toury bike that I purchased from Columbus Cyclery!

Phenomenal bike shop in a wonderful North Beach location! I bought my HJM Toury e-bike from here last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only is the bike a blast, but the service from Columbus Cyclery has been tremendous. Example: I fell off my bike one day and the chain got totally messed up. I used my electric throttle to hurry to the shop and showed up with cuts on my arms and legs. They were about to close but I was desperate, and I think they understood that. They fixed my chain for me while helping me patch up and clean my wounds. I am forever grateful for their friendly staff and impeccable service! The owner is a great guy who loves helping others with their various bike needs.

I should've took a photo of the rim strip before I, YES I, FIXED IT!!!!

$69 for Pro tune-up Special (LOL) and $3 (a spoke LOL), 2 rear spokes replacement. TUNE Up was a JOKE!!! Total price... $90 50% off ! Pro tune-up Special (LOL) at Columbus Cyclery. Pro Tune-up (LOL) includes: - True Front and Rear wheels.... OK, but didn't put the RIM STRIP BACK ON RIGHT, INSTANT FLAT ON INSIDE OF TUBE, 40 mins into ride. - Adjust Front and Rear Derailleurs..... MAJOR FAILED, chain still rubs in Front sprocket, gears still don't switch to next gear on Rear Derailleur. - Adjust Front and Rear Brakes..... FAILED, my rear wheel disc brake touches the brake pad NOW!!! - Lubricate Chain and all gears.... seems like this is ALL THEY DID RIGHT!!!! - Tighten Headset and Bottom Bracket... Don't Know!!! yet - Wipe Clean the entire bike... pick up bike when raining, but this is a NO BRAINER!!! The worst is the cassette wiggles after you pedal and let the wheel spin, WTF MAN!!!!! Save your money, go elsewhere.

The shop destroyed my bike frame during a Groupon tune-up. The inside of the carbon seat tube is crushed, and it's split on the outside. I didn't notice it until a few weeks after the service, but the bike is otherwise brand new and has never crashed, tipped over, etc. My best guess is they pulled the seat post up until 3" were left in the frame, clamped the post in a repair stand, and pushed the bike handlebar down, levering the bottom rim of the seat post into the seat tube. I can't prove it though. R.I.P. $2000 bike.

Enjoying a ride up the hill near Fisherman's wharf after our flat was patched!

I had some issues with the brakes after a month, brought it by, and Bruno gave me a quick tune up free of charge.

They sell a kinda of curated goods from a small selection of tools, lubricants, snacks, and gear. I bought some very well fitted gloves there. What really impressed me was the way they operated the store. It got busy at one point and chilled out... then it got busy again, and they did not miss a beat! But on top of all of that, they were servicing bikes that had appointments or walked in, all at the same time! I was able to bring my bike in, but I also saw they had those bike repair racks in the front and back of the store - they're not playing around. I saw someone walk in with their bike listing off a bunch of stuff he wanted to look into fixing, and the staff person in the front immediately threw it on the repair rack and said 'let's take a look'. They also have this roller situation setup in the front where they can take your bike and run it in place to show what it does while in motion. This place means business and they are super friendly! I wish I had something like this closer to home, this store is doing a service to their local community.

I went to Spokeasy to buy an attachment for my bicycle pump, specifically for a dog stroller. Anson…read morekindly offered to pump up the stroller tires for me. My dog was still in the stroller, and I asked multiple times whether I should remove her. I was concerned about the weight on the tires and bearings while he was servicing it, and my dog was visibly uncomfortable with him lifting the stroller while she was inside. He picked up the stroller several times by the front wheel, which seemed awkward at the time. As soon as I left, I realized the front swivel wheel was no longer functioning properly. It now defaults to facing backwards (180°), and the tire rubs against the swivel with every turn. This made it extremely difficult to get my dog home, especially because she has mobility issues. The stroller is not a luxury item for us -- it's something I rely on every single day for my dog, groceries, laundry, and basic errands. When I told my son what happened, he mentioned that he had a similar experience at the same shop a couple of weeks ago. He and a friend brought in a bike with a brake issue. The shop offered to help and didn't charge them, but whatever was done made the bike worse. Sending a kid out with a bike in worse condition than it came in is a safety issue, especially since my son recently had a serious fall due to a mechanical problem. I understand that Spokeasy didn't charge us for these services, but free work still needs to be safe and competent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. For these reasons, I can only give Spokeasy one star.
