    Gino (half sandwich)

The queues in this place are a bit confusing. If you're stopping in for quick to-go paninis, don't take a number at the front. Go straight to the back counter where the panini display is and order there. I got the Gino and it was pretty good. The focaccia was crunchy and flavourful. The toppings were fresh. I think it just felt like it was missing something in the toppings. It was a little dry

Columbus Meat Market 1310 Nanaimo Street Vancouver 604-253-2242 https://www.columbusmeatmarket.com/ This is not a restaurant however they have cooked food that you can buy. We got the Porchetta... OH WOW! You can get cooked food, sausages, fresh meat etc... During Christmas time, there will be a lineup around the block. Ordering is simple & systematic, at the entrance there's a touch screen machine - you touch & they print your calling #. Behind the counter, your number will light up, in addition they will also call out your number. Quality of the meat looks good, they have prep meat ready to be cooked such as stuffed chicken or meat rolls, marinated assorted meats priced by the piece. Prices are reasonable & the quality is good. I will let you be the judge from the photos of the Porchetta!

The staff here are always friendly and well knowedged. The cuts of meat are among the best, I like that the steaks and pork chops are adequately thick. The quality of both the fresh meat and prepared foods are great. The weekends are fairly lined up, but you can get served in about 30 minutes, which gives you enough time to decide on your selections and shop the frozen and prepared foods.

Been many times to Columbus Meat Market. Always a line but the wait time isn't long (10-15 minutes). Grab a ticket when you walk in. They have everything you'd want meat-wise along with sauces and pizza dough. A couple of specials that I keep an eye out for: - Special chicken drumsticks ($0.99/lb) - only in 5 lb bags. Mix of drumsticks and drumlets. - Lamb mega sale ($10.00/kg) - Lamb roast ($20.00) - Veal roast ($15.00) - Chicken souvlaki satay ($1.00) - Sausages ($2.00) - lamb (hot) and wild boar. Prime rib sausages were $2.50. - Blue ribbon beer bratwurst ($2.00) - Delicious don vito burger ($2.50) - Tasty turkey prosciutto burger ($2.00) - Lamb burger patties ($3.00) - Meatballs ($0.50) Can't go wrong at CMM for quality, fresh meats.

My friends recommended this place years ago but I never got a chance to visit the place. They close around 5 pm everyday except Sunday. Sunday they are closed. I came here to pick up some meat. Wow! prices are unbelievably good and of course the quality is spectacular too. Service is great. When you walk through the door on the right hand side, press the touch screen and grab a ticket. Next is just waiting to get served. They have a pretty good system that works. The place does get very busy. Everyday they have the drumlets on sale for 0.99 cents/lb. Those do get sold out. I bought a few things and surprised how quickly it racked up to $26 for fresh meat. I also got the frozen cevapi for $15. Total spend for the day $41. There are lots of street parking and residential parking in the area. I highly recommend coming here to pick up meat. Good deal. Love the lamb options.

Absolutely fantastic and high quality meats as well as service. Every time I visit Columbus Meats Market I've had a great experience. There's always a line up but it tends to move quickly. The quality of meat is always fresh and I'm never disappointed. I've tried their chicken, rib eye, lamb and bison steaks. The only item I didn't like and I'm not sure if it was an off day or it could be personal preference, was the stuffed mushrooms. I found it way too salty and unenjoyable. Bonus, when you order the whole chicken they put it in a large tin foil so you can bake it directly in your oven.

A pretty awesome place for meat. I wish I live nearer so that it will be more convenient for me to pick up some steaks or meat when the mood strikes. This place is usually busy, especially towards the weekend and on Saturday (closed on Sunday). I have seen lines outside it when I drove past. The early part of the week is not as busy but there are still plenty of customers. Get a ticket when you enter. The ticket will let you know the estimated waiting time and number of customers ahead of you. Take the time to walk and browse at the display so you will know what you want when it is your turn. There are so many types of meat besides the usual beef, chicken and pork. I discovered a pretty looking rolled meat (mini girella), then I found out what it is made of. There are also stuffed peppers and portobello mushrooms. Some meat is already marinated so it can save time in prepping it. There are also cooked food in ready to go boxes. You can also get cooked lunch which is available Monday to Friday. It is usually ready around 11 am and sells out quick. I also saw a small area for hot snacks. The prices are very fair and affordable. A hidden gem for those not living in this neighborhood.

Wow. I can't believe I didn't know this place existed. Always wondered what was up with the lineup out the door. Now I know. Parking is available in the back (2-3 spots), though it's easier to simply park on Nanaimo. The place has that old school charm. Plenty of friendly butchers behind the counter, eager to help the next customer. They could film a movie here. When the place is packed (which it often is), there is a number machine by the front entrance. Take a number and watch the screen behind the counter. Besides the piles of meat, they also have marinated stuff, as well as sausages. On the other side of the main display are a frozen and hot food section. Something for everybody who isn't a vegan. The first time I was here, I was completely overwhelmed by the selection. Fortunately the guy behind the counter was really helpful with the information. I ended up buying way more than previously expected. As for the quality? Top notch. Their products blow away everything from the chain supermarkets. Everything is noticeably higher quality. I think of it as like Costco but slightly higher quality, and without being forced to buy bulk. The only downside is their short business hours. Anyone working regular business hours is looking at Saturday only. This place will keep taking my money for the foreseeable future. Highly recommended.

If you live in the area, this is probably one of the picks as to where you get your land protein. I remember when this store was located on Renfrew before the whole block was changed to a condo, and now they are on Charles and Nanaimo and the place on any given day is packed, not with just shoppers, but they aren't just a 3-4 person crew. When you come in here you may be in awe of the high ceilings and how big this place is... well snap out of it or you will never get your order, go get yourself a number located at the entrance from the Nanaimo side (yes.. there are 2 entrances). You are going to have to wait, doesn't matter what time, there is always someone in here.. (and recently at the start of this epidemic it was a good 30 min. wait!), go look around, even if you have that nice little list all written up of what you want, you may find something more you want to buy... like eggs, dried pasta, already marinated meats, ready made roasts ready to take home and pop in the oven, sausages... oh.. and probably what you were sent here for if that is not your own list in your hands. Very friendly people helping you with your meat needs in the neighbourhood, if you have not been here yet live around the neighbourhood, what are you doing? Seriously they made me a believer of good quality, and that is what you are putting in yourself!

This is our favorite meat shop in the lower mainland. We drive here every so often to stock up fresh meat and other meat products. It totally worth the 40+ minutes drive! Our family enjoy their Maui ribs, spicy chicken wings, and different cuts of beef. They also have some rare items, for example, rabbit! If you are going to have a summer BBQ party, make sure you visit this place first. They have good quality meat at very reasonable price.

This is my go-to meat shop for delicious home cook steaks and other meat dishes. This place gets busy but they have enough staff to keep the flow going, and all are super friendly with a great smile and willing to help. This neat shop has almost everything I ask, even ones that are not displayed. I asked for pork belly, and the guy brought a nice big slab for me. The belly is all clean, no hair on the skin, you know, not gross out when you take it home prep-ing it. They have a very wonderful selection of beef cuts, ribeye, New York, briskets, stew, veal, veal cheeks, t-bones, you name it, they have it. Lamb and pork selections on display are not as many as beef, but if you have something in mind, just ask, they have more in the back! I still need to explore their marinated selection, they all look so delicious but I have also limited fridge and belly spaces. And I always end up with steaks & briskets. Yes, they are that goooood! Other than uncool meat, they also have a fridge and freezer section that have salami, bacon, perogies, soup stocks and eggs to explore! Ever since I discovered this meat shop, I never gone else where for my steaks and briskets anymore. And if you read my other reviews, you can tell I'm a very particular gal, as my husband describes me So, if you are craving for steaks during this weird time, #stayathome. Call Columbus Meat Market, ask for the particular meat and cut you desire, and they'll have them ready for pick up~ Support local!!

I called ahead before heading down here, "Do you have center cut tenderloin?", "Yes we have a lot". Well that was dumb of me for being not specific enough on what I'm trying to make. When I got there, I talked to one of the staff asking for the tenderloin. They proceed to show the center cut tenderloin which been cut to steak size. I explained that I'm planning to make Wellington, and that would not work. They went to the back, but couldn't find any, and told me it was sold out earlier. Then they talked about the other tenderloin cut, which twirled using string, they said I can use it but they wouldn't recommend it for Wellington as there is muscle which going to make it tough. I decided to just get the prosciutto, and another staff came to help me. They asked how much I need and what I'm making. Once they learned that I'm making Wellington, they dig around for the center cut and there was one left! Christmas is saved! Cost about $113.68 for 1.146 kg of center cut tenderloin, very good price!

All good - head out and ask my husband to pick it up. While I shop for other things. After several minutes of confusion from the staff, he's finally handed an enormous wrapped parcel and charged $104. He's shocked but figures he better get it. Now I don't know if we could have returned it at this point, but when I saw Safeway only had a small, single breast (for $13.99) I figured I'd go with what appeared to be a very large double / full breast. Getting home I unwrap a bloody, netted roll of turkey that turns out to be one skin-on breast that has the meat partially separating from the skin, very unevenly and poorly removed from the bone, plus approximately 8 skinless breasts of various sizes. I'm already anxious enough about making a massive and complex meal and now I have an extremely expensive pile of basically crap as my centrepiece. Wonderful. Suggest if you buy from them do it in-store and watch what you're getting. I suspect they had a trainee and rolled their unsalable poorly cut breasts into a giant 'sucker' package for whoever phoned in a turkey order. I certainly won't support this business again, which pisses me off because I sure don't love supporting Galen and the other monopolies. Feeling incredibly ripped off and gullible for trusting which also sucks for us as a society. I was very clear in my order that I was expecting both sides of the breast with skin on (I asked twice) from a roughly 5-6 kilo turkey. And, the owner, Mike, is rude and defensive when someone brings about meat that is not up to snuff. They used to make meatloafs with ground beef, lamb and pork and a mild seasoning with tomato sauce and parsley. I have bought them for years. Recently, though, they changed the recipe and cut out the lamb! While this saves money for them, the recipe now is inedible! It's overly salty and tastes like soap! We could not finish even one of the three. I let them know by phone and they said "just throw it out and we will give you another". Why would we want another that tasted so bad and was inedible? so, I brought back the two others and when Mike heard of this, he came over to counter, yelled at me and said, "Here's your 20 and we don't want to hear your story!" He continued to berate me and said, "We must have sold over a 100 of these!" I have no ulterior motive. But the meat recipe was awful and the meat itself looked brownish/grey. Still, I went on to buy two large very expensive steaks and some brisket. I was working with another of his sales team (thankfully) and Mike re-inserted himself to say, "If you want a deal for Brisket", go to Costco!" I was astonished. Is this how you treat decades old customers? The other staff person looked embarrassed when he heard Mike scolding me. I think the place must be slipping in either its business or professionalism. I can't say when I will recover from this awful service. I will not recommend them to others.

Wow, wow, wow. What a FABULOUS gourmet foodie shop, here in…read morethe heart of Kerrisdale! (Those of you who know me know I don't rave about places often, using caps in my Yelp reviews!). This place is wonderful. I don't get to Kerrisdale as much as I'd like to, so I was somewhat surprised yesterday to stumble upon this Market Meats shop on 41st. A friend who works in the area mentioned that she sometimes gets sandwiches for lunch here, so I decided to check out what ready-made meals they had available. (If my friend hadn't mentioned the sandwiches here, I'd have thought this place simply an upscale butcher/meat shop TBH). Just...wow. The store interior is sharp, modern, with a New York feel (clean white and black palette, open, contemporary deli-aesthetic). I was immediately drawn to the display at the front containing sewers of chicken in delicious-looking sauces and meat ribs in barbecue sauces and other dishes one can purchase and cook in one's homes. Everything looked super fresh and delicious and, yes, homemade. Then I went to the shelves along the wall containing the sandwiches. I was so impressed by the assortment of super-stuffed sandwiches: brisket on rye, smoked turkey, roast beef.... all of which had pickles and gourmet condiments and were on fresh deli breads. Seriously, the kind you'd get in NYC (or any decent deli on the east coast. The kind that Vancouver is seriously lacking in). My kid and I grabbed a Montreal smoked meat sandwich on rye with fresh mustard. (The guy at the cash, who warmly greeted me when I came in and asked if I needed help finding anything, confirmed that this smoked meat indeed came from Montreal - the real deal, from Schwartz's! - and said he makes it a point to get all the meats and fish and most of the foodstuffs here domestically, from across Canada, only the best. I liked that). All sandwiches cost $14.99, so...not cheap. Bur fresh and good and super-stuffed (enough for at least 2 meals for me). The shelves beyond the sandwiches were full of spreads and condiments and rubs and condiments from Canada. I was so happy to see Montreal represented with some Joe Beef rubs and other Montreal products (lox! from my fave Jewish delis back home!). Beautiful cheeses, the likes I've not seen before. Then we got to the seafoods of all sorts, and of course, meats of all sorts. I really liked how the folks behind the counter were really friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about all the foods here: what would be best for whatever type of cook you are, how much to get for what your specific needs are, how to best store and cook it, etc. I would personally be very confident getting foods here as I feel I could trust these folks to help me out (and I'm not the best cook, between us!). I wanted to get a gift for some neighbors who invited me to thier New Years Eve party, and I know these neighbors are real "foodies". I feel I stumbled upon the perfect place to get them a gift! The options were a-plenty here! First I had a beautiful small wheel of cheese and some gourmet fig jam in hand to get them, then I decided instead on a small tin of bougie caviar, then at the cash I saw this beautiful tall jar full of fancy chocolate-marshmallow concoctions which I thought looked very festive, and I settled on that (I had never seen this product before! Unique). So many choices. I realize this is a long review, but it was important to note how this is NOT just a meat shop! It's the best foodie shop, with the most helpful staff! I really encourage you to check out this place if you're in the area!

Besides the fresh meat and seafood and deli meat, there were also ready to serve meals. Lots of condiments and desserts. My excitement was finding ossobuco here! I have not had it in many years and this dish always brought back memories of having it in an Italian restaurant helmed by Italians. The ossobuco rigatoni here was really good. There were lots of chunky meat which just melt in your mouth. Everything in the dish was wonderful. I hope they do have this often as this seemed to be the special of the day then. I also bought the double smoked bacon and it was fresh but super smoky. It actually smoked up my air fryer when I used that to cook and set off the smoke alarm. Note to self: cook bacon in fry pan instead. The limoncello dessert also caught my eye. Hopefully the tiramisu will be in stock the next time I am there. This is a great butcher shop in the Kerrisdale area.
