This restaurant is housed in a very cool space that feels both historic and timeless - I loved the incredibly high ceilings and feeling of openness. My husband chose the Saffron Salmon for his dinner entree, and I ordered the Lamb Tagine and a side of sautéed veggies. Lamb was the clear winner. It was butter-tender and came with a silky, savory sauce. The sauce was dotted with tender prunes that added a nice flavor contrast. The sautéed veggies had a nice variety and even sported a few Kalamata olives which were a welcome surprise. In contrast, my husband's salmon was a bit disappointing since it was over cooked and dry. Recently visited Palate Kitchen to take full advantage of their happy hour menu (50% off of selected dish) and July dinner promo with bogo dinner entree. We ordered the tuna tartar, lamb tagine, lamb ragu with shrimp and their signature French toast. Lamb tagine was a favourite. Meat was there and had good flavour. Ragu had a good texture and the tuna tartar was refreshing stay but felt it could have a bit more flavour to it. The French toast seems like a very popular item from what I see on other's posts but it felt a little too dense for my preference. It has outer fried batter along with the French toast in the middle which made it a bit heavy after a meal, so probably would recommend to eat it with something light or on its own. The space was beautiful upstairs with gorgeous ceilings and windows overlooking the streets. Hope to visit again to try out their other menu items next time! read more

Tried out Palate Kitchen today for the very first time. Beautiful space with an upstairs and a downstairs sitting area. They have a wide variety of food options. Staff is extremely friendly and guided us to our table upon arrival. For breakfast I ordered the steak and eggs as well as the London Fog. Went here on a Sunday morning for brunch, I was very grateful that my friend had got a reservation because it was pretty crowded. We were seated right away which was nice! This time I ordered their lamb bistro toast which came on a sourdough toast with a hummus spread, slow roasted lamb, cheese, arugula, and other sauces. It was really tasty but it was really hard to eat, the toast wouldn't cut properly and when it did, all the toppings would fall apart. My partner got their mushroom truffle toast which seemed really good on the menu but the sourdough was burnt which made the toast very hard to eat. Considering the only thing on this was mushrooms and hummus spread, the spread was very little that we couldn't taste it. We also got a side of potatoes which were not salted too well. The service this time was ok, I had asked the server to give my fried egg on the side but they forgot. We also had to wait 15-20mins for a set of cutlery and it took them a really long time to get our bill despite us asking twice. Maybe because they were really busy. I met a friend here for brunch. I was immediately awed by the interior when I walked in - it's very open with a high ceiling and two lofts on either end of the space. We were lucky to get a table right by the window on the second floor that gave us a great view of the harbour and North/West Vancouver. The food was great! I was really craving French toast so that was what I got. I don't think I've tried deep-fried French toast before and was a little hesitant about that part, but I didn't notice any oiliness. The deep-fry gave the slices of toast a crispy exterior but they were nice and soft inside. The mascarpone praline was a fantastic topping and there were tonnes of fresh berries. Some of the specialty cocktails on the menu were really tempting but I decided to just get a mocktail. The rosemary grapefruit spritz was a nice accompaniment to my meal - refreshing and nicely balanced between tart and sweet. It's definitely on the pricy side, but honestly, given the location and setting, I was kind of surprised that the prices weren't MORE exorbitant. The staff was very friendly. They were great about refilling water, and even though they weren't dropping by constantly, it was really easy to get their attention when we were ready to order and pay. I would definitely recommend making a reservation since it was pretty busy even on a weekday. The store staff put my travel bag on the first floor, but I started to worry. This place reminds me of Hollywood. How? Glitz & Glam from the outside, but when you look close it's not pretty. I can't have milk. I ordered the almond milk double shot latte. Yes yes, very pretty, but it just tasted like steamed almond milk. Anyone who likes strong lattes knows the taste of "the kick" of a double. Here? No kick, no taste...just foam with a pretty image that looked like a cactus...I think. I had to get a straight up drip coffee just to get my morning caffeine fix. Oh....and they charged an extra dollar for the almond milk. So, here's their logic: We're swapping her milk for almond milk...what the hell...let's charge her extra cuz she can't have milk. Moving on..... On the menu, the Avocado Toast has the option of coming with added bacon for $6. I just didn't know they were two tiny pieces of bacon. $3 per strip. Yup. Just so you know. I asked for medium poached, got soft poached, and the egg was tasteless and seemed low grade. The bread was so hard that at one point after my knife nearly gave way.....I thought the bread was gonna frisbee its way to the attorneys' table and canvas itself onto their fancy ties. Luckily it didn't and I just took a break and sipped on my already cold almond milk...double shot wanna-be latte. So, after we nearly spent 70 bucks for a couple of egg dishes and some coffee...it was time to go. Once you get past the high ceilings, the fancy tables, the great service and the fancy decor on the plates.....the actual experience of the food, the value and the quality really missed the spot with me. I just felt robbed somehow....the extra charge for everything, the poor quality eggs and the weak coffee you could feed an infant. Our server SILVIA was wonderful though. Came here for my friend's birthday. I had never heard of this place, so I asked my friend how she found it as she rarely goes downtown. She saw it on someone's feed. I got the kefta skillet which has Moroccan meatball and 2 poached eggs on top of tomato sauce and olive. The meatball has a nice blend of spices and the sauce compliments it. The place has two upper levels on each side of the building, which looks down the middle of the place and kitchen. However, we stopped here for breakfast, and everything was going well until I bit into my scrambled eggs, only to find a weird object in them. It was a hard black piece of who knows what that the manager came to defend and claim was an avocado pit (which it most definitely was not). I placed a picture on this review so we can take a poll and try to figure out what it actually is... any guesses? All I ate from my breakfast plate was toast and beans, as everything else gave me the ick after that incident. Wow my friend and I enjoyed our experience at the restaurant. It looks small on the outside but the restaurant is beautiful on the inside. I was a bit confused as I walked in as there was a cafe on the right side. But I found the host stand easily as I walked forward. We were seated on the second floor on the side by the wall. It was nice, not too crowded with elegant windows looking out the street. I ordered the Huevos Rotos and my friend got the palate breakfast. This was easily the best brunch I've had. The eggs were cooked just right and the dish was flavourful but the sauce was not overpowering at all. We were both stuffed by the end of the meal.
