The kind office staff was able to accommodate my initial consultation quickly. (Within a week) and into surgery within 2 weeks. Everything moved quickly! Dr.Toomari diagnosed me with a relatively small epigastric hernia. I explained that I was a physically active person and he offered 2 options: open or robotic surgery. He explained both options and we elected with open, no mesh. It was evident he was the surgeon for the job as you could tell by his explanations, image and confidence that he is highly skilled. The surgery was straight forward, in and out 2hrs outpatient. Physical motion was hard the first 2 days but incrementally became reasonably tolerable by day 3. I came in after experiencing a traumatic situation where i had been drugged and sexually assaulted. I was trying to explain what happened and ask for testing and medical help, but instead of feeling supported, I felt like I was being questioned and treated as if I was not telling the truth. At one point, the doctor said, "At this point it sounds like you're lying. I don't believe you because you keep changing your story." Hearing that as someone trying to seek help after a traumatic experience was devastating. This type of response is exactly why many survivors are afraid to come forward. When a nurse came in to draw my blood, I asked what the blood work was for because nobody had explained anything to me. Instead of calmly explaining, I felt like I was spoken to as if I should already know. Communication and informed consent are extremely important, especially in a situation like mine. The doctor also asked me, "So what do you want me to do? What type of exam?" I was shocked because I came to a medical professional for guidance and care -- I did not know what exams or tests I needed. I requested a female doctor, but I was told none were available. Because I no longer felt comfortable or safe continuing care there, I decided to leave. Before leaving, I asked about the pregnancy test they said they would do, and I was told it would not be done because I was leaving. I was then asked to sign paperwork stating that if i d*e after leaving, it would not be their responsibility. After this experience, I went to the UCLA Rape Treatment Center, I was treated with kindness, patience, and respect. They listened to me and helped me through the process. I hope this review encourages medical professionals to remember that patients coming in after trauma need compassion, not judgment.

Left multiple voice messages, but no one ever called me back. Secondly, I was referred to this office by another orthopedist (Dr. KATZ, MD), and the receptionist told me that they can't schedule an appointment until I get an X-ray or CT and physically bring the pictures with me. They cannot schedule any images/test, but require the patient to bring the images with them. When I asked who would schedule images, they told me - your primary or another orthopedic who referred you. I have to figure it out, and there is nothing that they can do to help.
