Stopped by Colvitto's Pizza and Bakery today on my way to meet with a friend. A lot of people mentioned them when we had our pizza strip nominations for March Madness, so since I was in the area I made a quick detour for a strip and a zeppole (tis the season, after all) The inside is larger than you expect, with plenty of seating if you wanted to hang out and eat your goodies. I got there around 11am but they still had a wide selection of calzones, pastries and pizza available. The ladies working the counter were very nice and quick as well. Before long I had my pizza strip and zeppole, and was on my way. The pizza strip at first was sweet. Almost too sweet for me, but as I continued, the sweetness faded into balance with the crust and became quite enjoyable. It wasn't long before I polished it off. It is a softer strip, with a good amount of sauce on top. The zeppole was wonderful. The whipped cream was soft and pillowy inside delicate pastry. All of it was light as air and it was a struggle to stop at the hallway mark! But I had to save room for the lunch meeting so I forced myself to quit... For now! If you happen to be in the Narragansett area and are craving the Italian tastes of the city, make sure you stop to check it out for yourself! read more

Amazing! Colvitto's is definitely the spot. The pizza is phenomenal, the sweet pig's are my favorite, the calzones will ruin all future expectations from other shops. It's just crazy over here. When you walk in and see the line, you might think it's going to be awhile. Nope, they sling these pies and pastries quick. Boom, boom, boom, the line moves fast. You better know what you want too. They don't have time to hold your hand as you decide, they will skip right past you. You gotta experience this, it's really amazing. The ambiance is like a nice cafeteria. Always a great spot for a couple of slices. I'll usually hit up Dollar Tree in the same plaza for a couple of cheaper sodas and grab my slices here, and sit under the trees by the side of the building. People are great, and the line moves fast even during the summer. read more

They have pizza, pizza strips and different types of pies filled with chicken, or spinach, eggplant etc. They will heat up your meal if you would like to eat at the location or just so warm when get home. They do have one line to order but many staff come to assist you with your order so goes pretty fast. They have great desserts with cookies, eclairs, zeppoles, this yummy lemon dessert and my son loves when in season their gingerbread men cookies. They have plenty of seating within the place. We stopped here for a quick pizza stop on our way to the beach house. My husband got a cheese, garlic and cheese and pepperoni. All three of them were reheated in a toaster oven when we got to our place...that made the crust really crisp and warm. The pepperoni had a nice spicy kick to it....the other ones had a really heavy tomato sauce on them, but that's the way they make their pizza crusty bread slices. The food was awesome - the best tomato strip in RI for sure. They have some awesome pies/calzones, my favorite being the spinach one. They were able to accommodate my peanut allergy with the pies, but they do have a bakery which contains some allergens. Colvitto's is a solid spot for their delicious spinach and broccoli pies, which are both vegan. I LOVE ordering pizza strips when I visit RI, but the pizza strips at Colvitto's use some type of oil in their tomato sauce that makes me feel nauseous. This doesn't happen with the pizza strips from other places around the state. They have a very wide selection of baked goods, but they're not vegan, so I can't comment on those. You will find better pizza strips elsewhere and especially better pizza. Owners are rude and terrible to employees, as I have witnessed first hand. When there was state minimum wage increase, the owners did not increase the wage and when alerted to it, they said they would start 2 weeks after the state wage increase started. Which is very illegal. Find a place to eat that treats their employees right! read more

A family owned bakery and pizza shop located in the Salt Pond Shopping Center next to Shaws Market. How convenient is that? We ordered large size Spinach Pies and Chicken Parm Pies to go. They were heated and ready to enjoy when we got back to our vacation house. However, the Spinach Pies were bland for our spice loving palette and not as tasty as those made by Casserta on Federal Hill in Providence. (Reason for the 4 stars) The Chicken Parm pies were a hit. They also had Buffalo Chicken Pies. We also ordered strips/slices of various pizzas. And we ordered Pizza Chips for the first time; I posted a photo. Wow! Delicious. We should have purchased three bags! The desserts looked absolutely great, and we have ordered several on previous visits. We have also enjoyed their fresh baked loaves of bread in the past. Service is efficient and friendly. The line moved quickly, and the customers in line were willing to wait patiently for good food. I really like the concept of this pizza place. The pizza is rectangle and not triangle so I'm not sure if I should call it pizza. Mind you I grew up in CT and live in Dallas so when I walked in here I was a bit confused. The pizza is open face and they have pan pizzas on the counter and you order what you want. They also have a display of fresh baked cookies (I came in August and they had gingerbread cookies). Anyways I got the regular pizza squares, a chocolate chip cookie and a gingerbread. As I got to the counter, the cashier wouldn't let me pay until the pizza I ordered was in front of her so she could see it so we were standing in line waiting for the cooks to put the pizza in the box because it just came out of the oven. That was so confusing and not the best service for their end. The pizza was okay. The sauce was a little bit bitter and the dough was tough. I really liked the cookies though! They were perfectly soft and delicious. I will go back just for the cookies and maybe try another pizza and give them a second chance. This shop is located in a busy plaza so parking can get tricky if its busy over the weekend. Overall despite my taste buds failing me I still recommend this place its definitely an experience! read more

another one of these "I've been coming here for a decade, how have I not reviewed it?" places. If you were to draw up a list of the best pizza, pies, cannoli etc at RI italian bakeries, I doubt any of Colvitto's offerings would hit the top (although I've found the choc chip cookies to be pretty amazing). But we go here only in the summer, on our way to the beach, and we need an easy place to stop, get reasonably priced beach food, use the bathroom, and get going again, and Colvitto's is perfect for that. I do wish they would have a better and more consistent selection, sometimes you go in and the racks are full, sometimes they are empty, and also that they would bake pies in the morning so they didn't have to be reheated. That would make it five stars. But hey, it is what it is, and it works. read more

We were so excited to have an Italian bakery in the area. We often pick up pizza strips, calzones, and biscuits on our way to the ferry. We live about 30 minutes away and usually get things at the bakery by our house. First visit, we tried the canoli and assorted pastry. The canoli had no taste, and the shell was not crispy. The other items were ok. We thought it was just a bad day. Yesterday, I called ahead because I needed several bags of egg, pepper, and wine biscuits along with pizza and calzones first thing in the morning. I was assured they would have the biscuits. Arrived a few minutes after they opened, a Saturday. Busy day for a bakery. I ask for 5 bags of each of the biscuits. Nope. Not today, I was told. If you only sell certain items on certain days, you need to tell people that when they specifically call for an item. I suspect they are not making many of the items they sell on site. Maybe they get delivered from another location. At 9:15 am several cases were empty. It was too late to go back to a different bakery as the ferry was leaving soon. Will not be going back. read more

The pepperoni pizza here is spectacular. Golden thick crust. Spectacular fresh, brassy sauce, smoky pepperoni that sets off all the other flavors and a thick cover of high quality cheese. You can get it by the pie, by the slice or as strips with just sauce. Super tasty and filling. Stopped here over the weekend on my way to a family get together to pick up some pastries and some pizza strips. Asked the very impolite girl behind the counter if I could get a sheet of pizza strips, she told me if I wanted it cut I would have to wait an hour for them to get to it. Now mind you I was one of 3 customers in the store. She suggested that I purchase 18 of the pre-cut slices which would equal the amount in a sheet, but would be charge full price of the singles vs giving it to me for the sheet price. (which is about 1/2 the price) I ended up only purchasing 6 slices and was glad I did, they were hard as a rock. This isn't the 1st time I've stopped here over the years, but it was the 1st time in quite some time. Looks like the standards in customer service and product quality has dropped a lot. read more

Love that their party pizza slices are saucy, just like me. You can't go wrong with any of the slice selections on the back counter. The calzones, or "pies", are also a treat. The spinach, 'roni and cheese pies are my favorite, but they go fast. The calzones have a nice crisp bottom but a soft bite-able top side. I hate it when you bite into a calzone and feel like a T-rex tearing at its next meal to get a mouthful. Nope, the crust is tender and tasty here at Calvitto's. The customer service is ok here. I really like good service and that is the one area that is consistently inconsistent here. Sometimes, the staff is greeting me as I come in the door...other times the staff is more concerned about finishing up the latest gossip rather than taking my order. The pastry here is also average, at best. I do think they pull their weight with the pizza. I would be hard-pressed to put together a box of pastry to bring to a dinner party. The few times that we have purchased pastry it definitely has not tasted freshly baked. It's a good little spot to stock up for the beach...or give yourself a break from cooking. There are a few tables inside for you to grab a seat. Stick to the pizza and calzones and be patient with the service and you've got a winner. went to this restaurant because of the reviews. Are you kidding me? This is pizza? give me a break who are you that are writing these positive reviews? my niece and I ordered a traditional 12 inch pizza with four toppings and while we waited we had two square pizzas (grandma style). we would have had five toppings on that pizza the fifth one being mushrooms until I found out that the mushrooms that they use are from a can. any halfway decent pizza restaurant would never use canned mushrooms! That should've been a signal to me immediately of what was about to come. The crust on both pizzas was horrendous more like cake bread than pizza dough. the tomato sauce and toppings were just "OK" . in addition to the above we waited 55 minutes outside the restaurant before our pizza was ready! This was early in the evening with minimal traffic going in the restaurant. No excuse! there were no apologies and no discount offered for this wait. Obviously never going back here again! read more

I never write reviews but I felt the need to tell everyone about the rudeness of both the staff and the managers. I asked or should I say implored the staff to make us a couple thin crust pizzas as a family member with a medical condition couldn't chew the crust but absolutely loves their pizza. They very reluctantly made it and when I picked it up, they made it clear "it won't ever happen again". I was informed that they "only sell Sicilian pizza". The staff is always so miserable and unwelcoming whenever I've gone in. It seems you're interrupting or bothering the staff when you go in to get some food. They are a restaurant aren't they? The place could be so much better if they hired staff that were friendly and pleasant but I am sure that starts from the top. This is my first negative review ever, but I have no idea how this place currently has 4/5 stars. First of all, the pizza is pre made sitting out in the open- uncovered and not kept cool. It's heated per order but none of ours (5 different orders) were heated all the way through, we all had a cold center. The calzones were dry and did not come with dipping sauce. Second, we came with children to this very casual place in a shopping center and they looked at us like we were crazy when we asked for a high chair. Third, there are no drinks for sale other than a vending machine so if you don't have exact cash for the machine you are SOL. Lastly, my daughter had a short curly dark hair in her sand which- no, it's not hers (she's blonde). We will never be back. read more

Maybe I am biased because I lived up the street from this place for over 10 years and always have fond memories of pizza strips at the beach when I was a kid- this place is awesome! It is a full bakery where they offer the traditional red and white pizza strips, along with a great variety of stuffed pies and loaves that you can eat up- the spinach pies are my favorite but they have many combinations of meatball, pepperoni, chicken, etc that you can chose from. They also have great pepper and wine biscuits, and a gigantic dessert case where you can get eclairs, zeppoles, and all sorts of yummy fruited bars, They have seating and will heat your food up for you if you chose to stay and dine, but a majority of their business is to go. We always head for the airport stocked with Calvitto's to bring home because we have not found anything like it out here in San Diego. Be sure to plan ahead- they are closed on Mondays! read more

This place is an amazing Italian bakery that is always tasty and inexpensive. There are not just the (very good) cannoli and other Italian sweets, but calzones, too. These small or large size are filled with meatballs, chicken or eggplant parmigiana, steak and cheese, etc. etc. The list goes on, and while the bakery does not have all the kinds of pies at once, there is usually a very good selection. Everything I have tried there has been incredibly good - especially the pizza strips. These are just strips of pizza crust with sauce on top. It sounds boring, but they are fantastic. The prices are more than reasonable.$5 for a calzone and less than a $1 for a pizza strip. Some of the bakery desserts can get a feel a little expensive, but they are so good that sometimes I have to splurge. The service is helpful enough - they are friendly, but since this is a place where you order at the counter, there is not much for the servers to do. The atmosphere is basic, though there are adorable pictures of families and their little kids enjoying the food. Parking is not a problem. It is a bonus that I live right across the street from this bakery, so I go far too often. But no matter where you are, this place is definitely worth a try! read more
