The pork banh mi was mediocre at best. Pork had a lot of good flavor, but toppings were skimpy and overall the sandwich was dry. What really brings this place down, however is the service I received from the cashier. The sandwich cost $6.50. In an attempt to clean out my change a bit I payed the $.50 with 1 quarter 2 dimes and 5 pennies. "Too many pennies!" She exclaimed. "This is a restaurant, not a candy store." If she had asked nicely instead of insulting me, I honestly would have broken out a $1. No big deal, but don't insult your customers! She went so far as to bring out a large jug of pennies to show me how many she had and told me she couldn't do anything with them....I kindly informed her that there is a chase bank 1/2 a block away where they will change them for bills. "I'll take your pennies this time, but next time no pennies," she said. Don't worry lady, there won't be a next time! I tried it for the first time since my last review and was admittedly a little wary given my last experience, but I'm so happy to say that I'll be coming back to try more dishes! I went to this neighborhood to try "World of Seafood" restaurant but noticed a new Vietnamese restaurant (much nicer I might add), across the street. Com Tam Ninh Kieu had that Chinatown feel and it looks like a little Vietnamese enclave is being carved out in this neighborhood. There is a Vietnamese grocery store adjacent to his establishment. The prices are VERY Cheap and I decided to try the Vietnamese sandwich Bánh mì. It was DELICIOUS and only $3.50! The role was huge and fresh and the pork, and vegetables made the sandwich delicous and refreshing. I look forward to going back to this place to try other dishes. The Bronx is changing folks and I suspect more of theseethnic enclaves to be carved out time goes on. read more

My dear friend moved to this part of the Bronx a couple of years ago, and other than O'Brien's, we haven't really ventured too far. This is an interesting spot for a Vietnamese restaurant, and it is worth going to. We don't have a diverse options of cuisine in the Bronx. Am I a Vietnamese pho expert? Nope. Did I have the pho ga here and enjoy it? You betcha! My friend had the BBQ chicken and rice and that looked tasty as well. I think this place needs you to go so you can spread the word on yelp that Bronxites do like cuisines other than Italian. Not only to help out a small, clean, friendly restaurant such as this, but so that other small, clean, friendly restaurants can open in this borough as well. P.S. First thing first, I'm from California and went to San Jose all the time because my home town, Monterey, didn't have Asian supermarkets. So, when I eventually found out that the Vietnamese food here is incomparable to California's, my heart broke. I'm not sure if it ever healed but, it felt like a heart attack. Even the cheap places in the Lion Plaza smashes on places in Chinatown, NYU, and East Village area. And are you kidding me? 8$ dollars for Banh Mi? I almost fainted and decided that I hated New York. So, when I found this place, I was filled with pride and joy. From that day on, I decided that I would rep the BX forever. If you talking crap about the BX, you about to get an angry little Asian girl starring you down. You walk in and you hear Vietnamese dialogue. That loud conversation that confuses non vietnamers who think they arguing. Nah, they're not arguing, they were talking about the mint leaves. Then there is the beautiful host/cashier/waiter/ boss lady/Vietnamese version of Beyoncé (at 45) there to greet you. Charming lady. She always calls me pretty and baby, which brings the little girl out of me. She makes me feel like I'm her niece from the way. That is a feeling you won't get in Manhattan. As for the food, it tastes like your aunt's cooking. Home cooked, not pretty or nicely decorated but the taste is always comforting. It's gives you the feeling of when you were young and you did your multiplication chart and your mom gives you a snack because she can't help you with your homework but she says, "you have to do well in school because I didn't go to school." That snack was always the shit. I called it brain food. It was actually "I love you" food. Thus, this restaurant holds a sacred place in my heart. Living in the area for years and being a customer even way before the remodel, I am happy to see how much this place has grown! I have tried various types of Pho and in my opinion this is one of the best. The staff here is always nice and very attentive. I've never had an issue. The pho is legit, I just finished having pho at Pho Sydney in ac and this pho put it to shame!! The broth is a deeper color you can tell it's been simmering with some fatty beef bones for a hot minute. It even has that greasy oil that floats on top that with clean out your digestive tract, but taste soo damn good. Don't get the egg rolls, it has no flavor and I'm mad that I had to pretend to like it in front of the viet lady that my mom was making friends with. With the advent of the Droid, I feel I am always connected and what better thing to be connected to than YELP! Jerome Ave, Bronx: A place I usually visit to have my car fixed and at times during the wait I walk around the streets to explore restaurants. Well having my Droid this time around I searched for nearby restaurants and was a bit surprised to find a Vietnamese Restaurant in a neighborhood mostly populated by Dominicans and Jamaicans, so thought why not check it out. The place was actually not that "nearby", but I will excuse my Droids calculation, since I love it so much. Its a small place with about 9 tables, a counter and a Large screen TV that was playing Vietnamese version of the Grammy's. It appears to be family run restaurant, and the guy who brought over the menu did not speak too much English. When I asked for a certain dish based on a previous Yelper's recommendation, the guy went out and called in his dad. I showed him the review on my Droid, which really put a Smile on the owner's face and he started beaming with pride. He was so happy that he asked me to try some other dish, "Beef broth and noodles with slices of beef and tripe", so I went with the recommendation, though I was in the mood of trying the 'duck leg soup" which wasn't on the menu, but they did have it. I also ordered the Spring rolls with Shrimp as a side. The presentation was consistent with my all time Favorite Vietnamese restaurant "Pho Bang" on Mott Street. However the flavor and the taste was much stronger and looked more fresh. It certainly was very aromatic and I couldn't stop myself from finishing the pretty large soup bowl. The owner checked in with me a few times to see how I liked his recommendation, and I had only good things to say. It was the pride and the confidence of the owner that really struck me that how he is able to back his food. And he was very humble in accepting the compliment. Definitely a gem hidden on the long and busy Jerome Ave. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely try it! read more

This place has gone so far downhill after ownership change. My family and I used to come here several times a month and it used to be the most authentic hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant in NY when it was run by a husband and wife duo. Now it's just expensive, lost a bunch of the more authentic menu items, and the food tastes worse than the average Vietnamese place in chinatown. As a vietnamese from Saigon, i was so happy to find this place. However, when I tried it, the taste is just so so, and the service here is HORRIBLE. The waitress (she is the only waitress and seems to be the boss of this place) keeps yelling at customers when customers ask for something. Today I have witnessed a lady got yelled at just because she asked for some more tea. When I asked for more fish sauce, she yelled at me: "50 cents more ok?". OMG, i can't even express how terrible the service here is. I swear to myself that i would never come back here in the future. FIRST of all, if you are only going to take cash you really need to have a SIGN at the door that says NO CREDIT CARDS. However, that is a minor gripe and not why I am upset, the service was the WORST I'VE EVER HAD AT ANY RESTAURANT and quite honestly old asian guy and middle-aged waitress lady you should be ashamed of yourself. We were rushed and treated like we were bothering them by entering their dining establishment. You can honestly tell they hate their life and their jobs. Sad really. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. There are so many great places in Manhattan and Queens to get real, authentic Vietnamese food. I love Vietnamese food. I love living in the Bronx however it's difficult to find Vietnamese food in the Bronx until now. I went there for lunch and so glad that I did. I ordered the traditional Bahn mi sandwich with the pho soup. Soooo good. I gave it a four out of five stars because I felt that the bahn mi was missing the Pate that traditional Bahn mi's haves, also the pickled vegetables needed a longer pickling brining time to get that good briny flavor and the bread wasn't the traditional crispy baguette "I'm a purist". The tv may have on the news or karaoke. I enjoy the pho. The egg ("spring") rolls are good. The summer and the pork rolls aren't that great (not a fan). Moreover the bahn mi is palatable but the bread is limp and disappointing. Be warned there is no alcohol license and cash only. Driving around with my boy as he scoured Bronx dollar stores for a particular item, we decided to take a break and fill our bellies. I pulled up the Yelp app on my phone and we both decided Vietnamese sounded good. Plus this place was right around the block from our current location. It's a tiny spot that you might miss if you're not looking. We were seated right away. The menu is straightforward and has plenty of pictures. I got the BBQ pork with vermicelli. He got the Vietnamese sandwich. We shared some spring rolls and both got iced espresso with condensed milk. My meal came out before the spring rolls, but I don't even care. The rice noodles were easily the best ones I've ever had. I only wish they came with a little more sauce. Flavor was on point, pork was tasty and a fair portion. I LOVED the iced espresso with condensed milk. If I didn't think it would have made me jittery I would have got another one to go. 2 entrees, an appetizer, and 2 drinks--all for about $20 plus tips. I was so excited to try this restaurant. I love Vietnamese food and grew up having access to lots of Vietnamese restaurants. Im really surprised at how high a rating this restaurant received. Let me start by saying there was a long black hair intertwined in my noodles. I had to detangle it to show the woman. OK I understand hair gets into food occasionally, but the woman's response was classic. "That's not our hair, that's your hair honey." She said it over and over again swapping honey for baby in the most incredibly condescending voice. For authentic Pho this is the place to go in NYC. It's actually run by Viets! Best bowl of Pho I've had out here in since moving from Cali hands down. Comes with the thai basil, bean sprouts, and lime (not lemon like some of the chinese run pho shops) Spring rolls are just ok, but they do give you the legit peanut/hoisin/milk sauce so that's a plus. Cafe Sua Da is good, little on the sweet side but definitely got's the kick you're looking for in Viet Ice Coffee. read more

Went there with hubby and my daughter since we're tired of going to Queens for Pho and decided to give this place a chance, I mean I've tried pho in SF, NOLA and was super excited to try out Pho in the BX based on the stellar reviews. First, our waitress was extremely rude, I don't want to judge, but she was throwing our plates at us like we were dogs and slamming cups and pointing her finger at my well behaved daughter and muttering something angrily in Vietnamese, it's very rude to point at children, I almost said something at her but I have a feeling she might have a mental disability, so my low rating won't reflect the service. We ordered the fried rolls, which by the way if you look at the left there's a freezer that contains the frozen mass produced rolls, I know because I saw the label when they took out our rolls. You get a generic frozen egg roll, it's so disappointing to go out to have an egg roll that you can purchase anywhere and fry yourself. The Pho My hubby wanted to take pics and of course his phone was low on battery and would not take pics, the noodles were a ball of sticky mess, they were so cold and stuck together you couldn't even separate them and the pho was barely warm, you know they just threw them from the fridge into the soup without caring. The meat was disgusting, no matter how much you chewed you could not break that meat, it was the closest thing to a shoe sole, my daughter almost threw up, by then my hubby just said, let's get out of here. I'm not usually in the Bronx, but since I was around Fordham I dropped in here on a rainy morning at around 11am. By midmorning, this place is already hopping with Vietnamese stopping in to get their coffee fix and some people ordering noodles. If you are a westerner, don't expect really attentive service, since most of the staff doesn't speak any English. I didn't perceive this as rudeness or whatever people are saying but something more like shyness or maybe it was just indifference? The pho was piping hot and really satisfying. Really nice portion size, good noodles and piping hot soup. And really good fresh pho feeexins. The soup is full flavor and just as good as most Chinatown or Brooklyn pho mainstays. Don't be put off by the decor (grungy) or demeanor of the staff, just be friendly and enjoy the food!
