And heck, I even accidentally walked into the part portion of the restaurant instead of the actual restaurant itself. But man, the food here is GREAT. I came here a while ago and without a menu to reference, unfortunately I can't remember the exact names of the dishes we ordered. But I do remember, the great food that was here. Our meals started with some soup. It was some sort of vegetable based soup, but it was hearty and delicious. But the entrees, that was the impressive part! We ended up getting a cornish hen dish as well as a sort of seafood stew type of dish. The cornish hens were cooked perfectly as well as seasoned very well. Each bite was crisp and full of flavor. The seafood stew though.....that was the real winner. Half a lobster, scallops, mussels, it was a hodgepodge of seafood that was just rich, delicious, and came out piping hot. I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful restaurant with my family and a great friend who was in fact the person who told us nothing but good things about this establishment and I venture to say that he was absolutely correct. I was craving beef so I ordered the sirloin tips and coin potatoes. The coin potatoes are named as such because they're sliced very thin and they do look like gold coins, perfectly crispy and extremely delicious! My sirloin tips were cooked exactly medium as I had ordered it and our meal was paired with a bottle of Malbec that was divine and extremely well priced. At our table there was the mariscada, the Portuguese version of a paella, and salmon. I tried a bit of each and was blown away by the distinctive flavors and the freshness of the seafood, just fabulous. For dessert we all shared a dessert very much like tiramisu and the name escapes me right now but I couldn't stop eating it and I ended up finishing the last of it off. There's just something wonderful about walking into a restaurant that serves simple, fresh, and delicious food at extremely reasonable prices, must definitely visit again the next time my travels take me up north. read more

Our kale soup was delicious with a good portion of chorizos ...soon after the soup arrived the dinners followed. A little less rushed would be better. Oh, man. This place is amazingly good and well worth a slight detour off of the Mass Pike. (Thank you Yelp! for the recommendation.) On the outside, it looks like a typical bar -- if not a little bit of a dive -- in Ludlow. But, that covers up what is really excellent food. We had a kale soup that was fantastic. I am not a huge eater of kale -- but this was amazing. When I told that to the server, he offered to give us some to take home at no charge. How friendly. My wife and I shared the spicy shrimp dish that is grilled over rice. I am pleased to report that (1) it was not killer spicy and (2) the shrimp were enormous and plentiful. The sauce was great and my wife scooped it up with her Portuguese bread. Unfortunately I could not because they do not have GF bread. Next visit I will bring my own GF bread. So I was working through the area coming down from Burlington VT. When I visit Mass I look for Portuguese food. Since it was Valentines Day and I'm away from my family with work, I figured I'd eat with my people. At the bar. Watching soccer. I chose this place partly because of Yelp reviews partly because of the ballsy name. I mean who names their restaurant in another language in the states? Their food backs up their bold name. Shut Up and Eat, because that's what I enjoyably did. I ordered codfish balls, soup and Monkfish. All were spectacular including their baked bread. This great little family owned eatery is a gem in Ludlow. We ended up here on a Monday night, and were warmly greeted and seated. Our group settled on 3 different entrees; the Monkfish rice, the paradillas, and a spicy shrimp dish. The portions were huge, with each one of us unable to finish our meals. The monkfish rice was well seasoned with a spicy, but not overpowering red sauce. The fish was tender but cooked through. Despite our Inability to finish our meals, the owner insisted we try a dessert, and provided her homemade favorite on the house with 3 spoons. Somehow we managed to almost polish it off. I attended a convention in W.Springfield and heard that MA has a sizeable Portuguese population. I lived in Brazil for a few years so am familiar with Portuguese cuisine and am fluent in the language. Searching for places to eat, I was impressed by the Portuguese language menu items and love the name of this place, "Eat & Shut Up". I found a new friend from Brazil at the convention & we went over for lunch. We had the place all to ourselves so got to chat with the Brazilian waitress and the Portuguese lady I assumed was the cook. We ordered caldo verde & split a plate of seabass. The rolls were freshly warm & the soup, hot & tasty. The small seabass was just the right portion for us two women & for dessert we had coffee & bolo de bolacha, a layered cake made w/cookies & cream filling. It was rich but not heavy nor overly sweet. During the whole time only two gentlemen went to sit at a nearby table, also conversing in Portuguese. This was a great cultural experience. I went here with family for Thanksgiving dinner--woof! This place is delicious. Super appreciative and kind staff, but most importantly it's a family business that truly cares about customer service. An experience that shows yelps truest value. An out of townie, a Local Dive, easily overlooked or passed bye. Sat at the Bar with a roomful of locals who seemed entirely acquainted with one another. Ordered the Kale Soup which had a nice flavor and spice which I attributed to the thinly sliced sausage found at the bottom of the cup. For the entree I chose Polvo (Octopus) perfectly cooked with a smokey char on the outside despite being perfectly tender. Service was friendly and spot on. The only negative, not sufficient to affect the stars, was the speed at which the food came out of the kitchen. Too fast!!! read more

This place is so underrated! More people need to go here. The food is great and with large portions to boot. Our meal was served with fresh made bread! My boyfriend and I have never had Portuguese food, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. But everything exceeded our expectations, we cannot wait to go again!! Came up from CT today to have lunch. We have patronized the other well known Portuguese restaurant in town for over 15 years, and wanted to try something new. The service here was friendly, although a bit slow to ask about drink refills etc. Food was tasty and presentation was very good. We had biteca, and febras. Potatoes were a little too crisp, but the rice and vegetable soup were very good. One star off for mold in the ladies bathroom ceiling tiles, which is never appetizing. read more

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and we decided to go to Come e Cala-te Restaurant. I called first to make a reservation and was told to just walk in. When we arrived there were NO customers. We sat. The waitress finally came over and offered my husband the special for the evening: Lulas na brasa (grilled squid). He ordered it and I ordered mariscada (fish stew). The waitress came back and said there were no lulas so he ordered something else. About 1/2 hour later, the food came. Since the food is usually served in little pots so one can serve themselves, we needed spoons for serving utensils just a fork and knife. We waited and waited for the waitress to come back with the rice for my meal so I could ask for the spoons. She did not show up so I went looking for her. I met her toward the kitchen and asked for the two items. She promptly told me in a bad manner that the spoons were on the table and she had the rice. I said no serving spoons there. She comes to the table in a really bad mood, lifts up everything to find the spoons. They were not there. She went to get the serving utensils. Never said a word. We started eating our meals. I ate a few scallops which were very tender. There were 6 clams: 4 without clams and 2 had the clams inside and they had not fallen in the pot. I tried the lobster. There was no lobster meat just shells. I looked everywhere for a piece of lobster and finally I used my teeth scrape a little bit (not even 1/2 a teaspoon) off the shell. When the waitress returned I asked if this was a fresh lobster and she said "yes". I said there was no lobster and I had to scrape a little bit with my teeth. She said "sorry about that" and walked away. My husband and I tried the shrimp. They were very tough. His rice and mine tasted like rice from the bag with a little bit of tomato sauce. It too was very hard. We could not wait to get out of there. We paid and walked out. The waitress who was outside cleaning tables (but no customers) totally ignored us, not even goodnight or thanks for stopping in. We had eaten there before and it was just OK. But because we love Portuguese food, we went back to give them a second chance. No more chances. I spoke with a few people who had gone there one time but would not return. Even one star is too much.
