Wow it's been 10 years since I've been to Johnny's in South Hadley. I met a couple people there after work and sat at the bar. The place was bustling!!! I started with a manhattan, they use excellent vermouth. And had the Thai salad with chicken. It was very good. I don't believe that it was napa cabbage as stated in the menu. There were also fried wonton strips, cucumbers, and edamame. The dressing was a ginger/soy/peanut. I'd order this again in a heartbeat. read more

The love of my life and our children, who are grown, went there last year and I fell in love with the place. I don't remember what they had but they loved their food and I had a pizza and it was the best pizza. It was so much better than Antonio's in Amherst. I definitely would recommend this place. The prices are kind of high, so I consider it a once every couple of months, great place to go out and eat or have it delivered. Out of 10, I would give this place an eight because it is worth the food is worth the money, but it is too loud when it is busy. Causing us to have to raise our voice when speaking to people. This place came highly recommended and it was well worth the visit! Its location in the village commons makes parking simple and gives you easy access to a number of stores, shops, and other restaurants. They have outdoor patio seating and inside dining with photos showing a connection to the community. Their menu was extensive with a range of sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta, and Asian influenced dishes. Items were very reasonably priced and portions were large - we left dinner with leftovers and lunch the next day. We came with 7 people with a range of dining preferences and there was something for everyone. Fun college bar & grille type place. Busy but they don't take reservations for less than 6. We were able to get seated and enjoy some very different offerings. Our waitress and her team of servers were awesome! They even sang happy birthday and photo bombed our pictures! Lots of fun and great service! The menu really has a variety of items from soups and salads to sandwiches, pizza and full on entrees. They hit on several different pallets offering classic things like New England clam chowder and burgers to Asian inspired pizzas (try the crab Rangoon if you're up for something different) and dishes. I enjoyed the Veggie Lo Mein with added chicken. Very hearty bowl - really enough for two meals but I devoured it after hours on the road traveling. Simple but nice selection of kids choices. My daughter loved the Mac & cheese! Others at our table had the Blackened Fish Tacos, NY Strip with a harvest veggie hash (I think it was one of their specials) and the Falling Apple Burger which had arugula, cheddar and apple chutney - nice flavor composition of the cheddar and apple - the arugula didn't lend much to the taste. We stopped in before seeing the play at Mount Holyoke, and they were AMAZING at accommodating our need to get in and out extremely fast. The hostess and our server were very sweet and competent. The menu here is ... odd. My husband got the Irish nachos -- we've had something like that at home in Colorado, but usually with more typical nacho toppings. At Johnny's, the topping is barbecue sauce, which was not to my taste at all -- the potato chips and sweet sauce were odd together with the melted cheese. I had the French onion soup. The broth was good, and there were some onions in it. When I got to the bottom, there was a LOT of melted cheese in there. My arteries hurt when I just looked at it, so I started sort of winding it together and eating around it. I mean, it was like the size of a racquetball at least. Undercooked spring rolls that were gooey and cold in the middle, and very overcooked Korean chicken that was dry and stringy. Seats near the stairs in the winter time or a constant barrage of cold air coming from upstairs. The volume in there needs to be tamp down a little bit. Atmosphere seemed typical of a pub but we were seated in an ice cold dining area that in the end made us want to leave as quickly as possible. We asked the server if the air could be lowered and we got a story that ended with being Told the manager would be coming to handle but never did. Anyways we had the Asian spring rolls to start. They were decent. We then ordered the Asian cod and the short rib stroganoff. Nothing special but my wife said the fish was not good- tough and " aromatic", the servers kept changing and weren't attentive. They had no problem dividing a salad between two of us, we each received a lovely portion and the combination of candied walnuts, Gorgonzola and apple on mixed greens, delicious. This Saturday my wife and I were enjoying a nice autumn day in South Hadley. We needed to charge our EV, so we stopped at the Village Commons' charging stations. It was lunchtime so we decided to see what was open. I had eaten at Johnny's before at work dinner and it was really good so I decided to treat my wife to lunch. Since we were traveling with Sadie, our senior chihuahua, we needed to do takeout. We utilized their online to go menu, which was very easy to use and a nice feature. We ordered their Irish Nachos, Pineapple Bacon Fried Rice, Potstickers, and Hit with Your Best Shallot burger. The online pickup order app said it would be 30 minutes until the order was ready. I headed over and bit early to wait for our order. I was pleasantly greeted by the hostess, gave her my name and was invited to take a seat while she checked on my order. The restaurant décor and atmosphere is of an upscale pub. There are different seating areas offered. Anyway our order was ready as promised. The hostess offered utensils and napkins. The Irish Nachos was packaged in a small pizza box and other food was nicely packaged in easily compostable paper boxes in a recyclable paper sack. Kudos for being environmentally conscious. We split the burger and fries. OMG! The burger was absolutely delish! The namesake shallots were nicely pickled and gave a nice pop of acid and freshness to contrast the very savory cheddar cheese crumble. The fries were double fried and super crispy. The potstickers were really good but not knock your socks off. The pineapple bacon fried rice (which we enjoyed this morning for breakfast) was really good but were like the potstickers. The real star of our lunch was the Irish Nachos. Instead of tortillas chips, the Irish Nachos are made with Johnny's homemade kettle potato chips. Yum! The nachos were covered in a layer of gooey melted cheese blend, bacon, scallions, grilled chicken (an $$ add on), salsa and a ramekin of sour cream. We added on a side oguacamole as you can't of nachos with guacamole. I would drive all the way from home just for these nachos. So if you are in South Hadley and looking for a very nice place for personal or social eats, Johnny's is the place to go. You won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I visited for date night on a Friday @ 6:30 and were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and attentive but slightly abrupt but understandably as it was busy. I had the blackened salmon w spinach risotto, which was excellent. My wife had the black bean burger but regretted it saying it was mushy. The guava margarita was quite good. We would eat there again but I'd note the indoor seating area is a bit loud, which some may take issue with. My kid would not be able to tolerate it. They also have outdoor seating but it was really hot and we wanted the A/C! read more

There was really nothing interesting about the food to report or recommend, except that the portions were large enough that there were leftovers for a subsequent lunch. I haven't been to Johnny's for a while, and for the life of me I can't remember why. The waitstaff is friendly with smiles for everyone. Tables are clean with dim lighting. I ordered the veggie flatbread sandwich, and decided to rltreat myself with French fries. I am so glad that I did. You see, I'm sorta a French fry snob. It must be exactly to my liking or, well, let's just say the establishment will be sorry. Luckily, Johnny's didn't disappoint. The French fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I had to cuff myself from finishing them off. Well, I didn't, but I could have. The sandwich itself was perfection. The flatbread was crunchy, but not stiff. The protabella blended beautifully with the artichoke hearts. I can't remember their sauce, but it was finger licking good. Literally. Serious though, those fries. Okay, I'll stop, but their food and service is something worthy of praise and future visits. At least I get to bring leftovers home with me. read more

Really enjoyed the Irish pub feel and an Irish Asian fusion menu! The menu had classic bar feel with an Asian flare and I had to get the Thai salad with salmon and worth every penny! The salad was sooo filling and full of flavor. My boyfriend got the tuna appetizer( cooked raw and so so good) with the pineapple bacon fried rice and even though it's on appetizer menu mixed together calls for one heck of a meal!! The cocktail menu was fun I do recommend for a dessert cocktail "more than a peeling" it's bourbon based with banana liquor and crème de coconut, it was to die for read more

Super friendly service, and they got our food out FAST when we told them my wife had to leave in 25 min. for a campus tour. My Crab Rangoon Pizza was delicious and filling, and my wife's Buffalo Cauliflower and house salad were also yummy. We recommend!! read more

Had one of my worst restaurant experiences of my life here last week. My risotto was terrible (crunchy undercooked rice, completely bland & unsalted), my partner got a bone in her Shepard's pie that we think cracked a tooth (still waiting on the dental appointment). The food came out immediately with the appetizers, it was timed horribly. The worst part was the staff reaction though. Everyone has a bad day, and mistakes happen. Who knows, maybe they were down a cook? But the manager was just completely apathetic and sullen, it made a bad experience 10x worse. The waitress came over and apologized for his behavior! She was nice, and apologetic, just seemed new and inexperienced. I'd never fault a restaurant on that. But to have a manager be that rude- I'll never go back. read more

Good American pub atmosphere food! I highly recommend the El Diablo burger - delicious with a kick from the jalapeño and so juicy. Forgot to get a good photo but just know that it is so good. I've also gotten the pizzas before, which are filling enough for one person. Service was also great. Will be returning to this staple. read more

USED TO love their Apples, candy walnuts and bacon salad with feta and vinaigrette. Well what I got was a plate full of greens, with canned bacon bits, no apples, no walnuts (although when I mentioned it to the waitress she had the nerve to say "here is one walnut") really? And maybe two crumbs of feta. My partner order a beets salad and got a plate full of greens with about 5 piece of beets. If at least she will have acknowledged our complaint and remove it from the bill seeing that we didn't eat it or at least give us a discount but nope, all she say was "here is a walnut and I wish you had mentioned it earlier". These are no times to upset the clients that are willing to come out and support your business. By the way the drinks were also very watery. read more

We always seem to end up here, the hours are reliable, the food is always good, and the waitstaff is friendly. I'm surprised it has such a middle of the road rating because we're picky ourselves and can always count on having a good meal here, and not the "it's comfort food so I like it" kind of meal either, there's always legit entrees, in particular their pasta entrees that are fresh and inspired. read more
