Came here to see Lizz Winstead, who we hadn't heard of before but was apparently co-creator and head writer for The Daily Show. My husband and I thought she was hilarious, but the crowd was definitely wrong and a lot of people ended up leaving early. I don't know if this is typical, but it signals that a lot of the audience may come to this place without checking who's playing first. There were four opening acts that did the normal mix of black jokes, women jokes, hispanic jokes, Jewish jokes, etc. They were all pretty funny, but I guess I'm used to the lineup getting progressively funnier as the night goes on and they got it a little backwards. All in all, the show itself was pretty decent. The venue itself, though, is pretty terrible. We arrived 45 minutes early, thinking that we'd either get decent seats or a nice spot at a bar. Instead, there was a gaggle of people in line upstairs who didn't really seem to know what they were in line for (will-call, seats, bar?) The staff, who could have easily cleared this up, was nowhere to be found. My husband and I finally snuck into the elevator and went downstairs (which I think you're not supposed to do, but since no one was around to tell us otherwise, we took advantage). The line there was more organized, so we got drinks and waited. When they finally let us in, I was competely underimpressed by the staff. They kept handing us over to a different person to get us seated. Since apparently you're not allowed to choose your own seats here (despite the tickets being general admission), we ended up sitting behind a pillar that completely blocked any view of the stage, so we got up and moved to the back. At this point, an usher practically yelled at us and made us move again. For a pair of people coming to Comedy Works for the first time, this was not enjoyable. Groups, on the other hand, get star treatment. Don't expect to ask questions or get helped unless you're in a group. However, even groups suffer. The guy behind us in line was separated from his party, and they wouldn't let him join them. 5 minutes after the show was supposed to start, they were STILL seating people. I guess it just comes down to the fact that the ushers were pretty incompetent. Another thing to note: even though you've paid for a slightly overpriced ticket, each person in the club has to buy two items (drink or food). You're not told this before you purchase your ticket. My husband and I had just eaten dinner, so were pretty full. Fortunately, the waitress serving our hidden little spot (extreme back left corner of the venue, couldn't have been any further from the stage) let us get away with just ordering 3 overpriced drinks between the two of us. The food served looked pretty greasy and standard. Overall, this place gets 4 stars for the comedy and two taken away for the terrible service, organization, and scam-like pricing of the venue. I would only go back if one of my absolute favorite comics was playing there. read more

This place sucks!!! I haven't been to this joint in a year, and now I remember why. The show was late, they made everyone wait for 45 mins in a crammed basement corner...this was after the cluster fuk of a box office line that went every which way! At least the first comedy was funny...but the headliner was a flop! Save some cash and patience and do something else. read more

I am torn about what to write here, as I have seen some of the BEST comedy shows I have ever seen in my life at this venue, yet the venue itself is not the best place to see a show. You are packed in tighter than an airplane. No leg room, no elbow room, bad tiering, so if there is someone tall in front of you, you are in trouble. I am fine with the two item minimum, most comedy places have this nation wide, but if you are going to require a two item minimum, have a place to put your stuff. There are no tables, and a tiny arm rest with not enough drink holders. So know going in, you are going for the COMEDY, not the experience at the venue, which is not good. read more

I went to see Russell Peters here the other night and my thoughts: Pros: -very funny comedians -elevated seats -decent food and drinks, a little over priced, but you've got to expect that -waiters Cons: -tiny seats crammed into small dungeon - definitely not meant for big people or those who are claustrophobic. -seats are on a first come first seated basis -seat assignments are done on the spot with someone holding the seating chart, trying to figure out which seats are still available to give you. I am sure there is a method behind where they place people (some in this row, some in that row, some in the middle, some in the far corner, etc) but it just seems unorganized. Why not just fill an entire row at a time; especially if it's on a first come first seated basis? Note: I don't recommend going in groups unless you get there early to get seats together or mind being separated. And for the love of sushi, please control your alcohol consumption at this small venue - no one wants to see or hear drunken idiots fighting in the bathroom. Super annoying! read more

I love it because they actually treat the up and coming comics like people. It's not a "corporate" club. When you compare it to another club in Denver, it's like comparing a family owned Italian restaurant to the Olive Garden...family owned is always going to be better...if the family doesn't suck that is. You wouldn't want someone digging in their ass and handling your cannoli. They don't dig in their asses at Comedy Works. At least I've never seen them do it. I'm pretty sure they don't. read more

The BF and and I decided to catch a comedy show while visiting. While other reviewers seemed to dislike the venue's no cell phones policy, we found it refreshing to be freed from buzzing and light up screens. The line up was great on the night we were there! I have always had a great time at the Comedy Works. Recently saw Mark Normand at the downtown location. Had the crowd rolling. The MC and the warm up comedian were great as well. Definitely recommend a show when you are visiting. read more

I've been to better comedy clubs most definitely. This one is usually overpriced considering you have to buy the minimum 2 drinks, which is OK in my book if the show prices reflected lower and the drinks weren't SO dang weak for the price you pay. Food is, EH, for being OVERPRICED...tastes like walmart generic food you buy in bulk....be sure to eat beforehand!!! You'd think after all these years, they would move to a bit roomier location. I DO love the basement closeness, but I don't want to be elbowed all night or have someones thigh pressed along mine all night long, or smell someones armpits everytime they raise their arms. I just want to be able to breathe freely and not feel so claustrophobic when I want to go out and have fun. I go because I Love the comedians everytime I go....just HATE the food and the small cramped space. read more

After reading a handful of bad reviews on here and weighing them against my own experience, I think I can explain away a lot of these jerks. "Comedy Works" is a real comedy venue. A place that's good at what it does and understands how comedy should be presented. A 2 drink minimum is the standard, they can't just have a small room full of homeless and pretend that that will pay the bills. Staff is busy but friendly and all of my experiences were reasonable and that's all they should be. This is a short review but all in all there's nothing to say bad, comedy isn't for assholes, don't be an asshole but welcome an experience...asshole. read more

good comedy club. I went here years ago and just saw Brian Posehn last night. It was a lot cleaner and more professional-looking than it was four years ago when I last enjoyed stand up there. The organization of the seating and food/drink delivery is excellent; like watching a symphony. The staff is on their game. I couldn't find any info on food/drink prices on the site, so I'll break it down for ya. The drinks are about $5 and up. The food is like walking through the freezer aisle in the grocery store: potstickers, cheese sticks, fries, chicken fingers, and sliders. The prices are insanely high for how crappy it tastes, so eat beforehand. Hopefully you're not going for the food anyway ;) read more

Is this place a club that I'm not aware of? Why is it that we paid the same admission price yet had to sit all the way at the top. I mean the way the theater is set up, you get a pretty much good view but if i wasn't with my bf, i would have had my personal space invaded in every direction. We would have tip the bouncer or got a bottle to get some personal space. The seats are way too close to make patrons have a 2 order minimum. I can barely put my purse on my chair to order two drinks or food C'MON. Somehow every time I've been here I have gotten the pleasure of sitting front row, which if you've ever been to a comedy show means that you are automatically the butt of 1/2 the jokes the comedian throws out. I, unlike some of the stone faced crowd, know how to take a good joke. Had a blast, server was awesome and prompt (I don't think I ever had an empty drink), and the comedian Colin Kane had me in tears of laughter! Terrible experience. And I mean terrible. Primarily because of our server hounding and yelling at us to buy shit. I literally mean she yelled at me. I walked out completely baffled that this place can run business with such poor customer service! I get it that you want to promote sales, but yelling at me?!! My experience was on a random Wednesday night with no big name comedians. Some guy called The Hippy was the main act, and I didn't think he was too funny. The seats were so small and hard I was uncomfortable the entire time, my butt literally fell asleep. And the AC or air was on blowing on me the entire night...in January! Hence I sat with my coat on, uncomfortable, not laughing, but rather getting yelled at by our server. Terrible experience. Id rather try out any of the other comedy clubs in Denver than head back to this place. read more

Went in for New Talent night and had a blast. It was our first time at Comedy Works and we will definitely be back again! The comics were hilarious and the staff was on point. The wifey, 2 friends, and I saw Jim Breuer on a Saturday night. Let me get out all of the "goods" first. 1. The opening act was great. 2. Headliner was obviously great. 3. Service was quick and very good. 4. In all honesty, though they have a 2 drink minimum, the drinks were not terribly priced. They weren't cheap but they were not sports stadium rip-off priced. We did have to wait in a long line to get in but that is to be expected and one should not get angry with that. The one reason I will NEVER go back to this location again is due to comfort. I think it has been said on another review but the seating is definitely more tight and less comfortable than a coach seat in an airplane. Furthermore, the AC seemed to not be working very well (not sure if that is an every night thing or just that night). This caused for a very uncomfortable show and towards the end I found myself not enjoying the show as much as I should. This should never happen. read more

Just received a call from my mom who was livid after leaving Comedy Works Denver tonight. My mom is a little, very mild mannered, and soft spoken elementary school teacher. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've heard her this worked up. She has no form of social media or online profiles so she asked me to share her experience for her. My folks are regular attendees at this comedy club and have been for many years. I have never heard them complain about anything in all that time. That all changed tonight. As the show was getting going apparently the comedian on stage was interacting with the audience and making jokes about a couple of them, and a few of them in turn heckled the comedian back. Not abnormal for a comedy show. Then a young couple seated in front of my parents, a black man with a white woman, had one of these interactions with the comedian. Nothing more than what everyone else in the audience had done. Except then one of the waiters comes over to scold the man for blurting out. The only black guy in the audience was the only one getting called out. This immediately caught the attention of my mom. The show continued and the man leans over to his date, in a whispered voice, so soft my mom sitting directly behind him couldn't fully hear, apparently to ask what she was going to order. The waiter, who had been staring at the man since their first encounter, then made a beeline over to the couple again and asked the man to step out to the front. Meanwhile other members of the audience are continuing to yell things out at the comedian on stage. By this point my moms entire focus has been taken off the show and diverted to the incident happening in front of her. My mom sees the man speaking to a manager. The man returns to his seat but is followed by this waiter. He then positioned himself feet away from the couple and continued to stare at them. The man and woman, having had enough, then stand up to leave. My mom stopped them and asked if they were leaving and the man confirmed, saying he wasn't going to keep getting harassed all night. My mom immediately agreed that this waiter had been harassing them the entire show, and seemed to have a racial bias against them. A few other witnessed this and also walked out. My mom then goes to the front desk and demands to speak to a manager and is confronted by the same one who had spoken to the man earlier. The manager explained that the waiter had heard the man blurting out multiple times in the first ten minutes of the show and was repeatedly asked to be quiet. My mom, having literal front row seats to the incident, assured the manager that this was a false accusation and that the waiter was in fact harassing this man and his date on a seemingly racially motivated basis. The manager apologized that "she viewed it that way", to which she responded "thats not how she viewed it... it's how it happened". She asked the manager if he was the head manager, he wasn't, but he said he could give her the contact information for the GM. She then asked for the waiters name. Overhearing this the waiter came over and demanded that she leave the building and that she was trespassing on private property. She informed him that she was in fact a paying customer and was not trespassing but did agree to leave.... more out of disgust than anything. The waiter refused to give up his name and even threatened to call the cop over as my mom continued to ask for his name. She later found out from other staff members that his name is Jessie. Safe to say they will not be going back unless action is taken against this waiter. read more

This place was packed when I went. I really didn't enjoy my experience sitting on the lap of the person next to me. When I went, they still allowed smoking inside which they probably don't anymore but anyways with that close of quarters you'll be miserable if the person next to you put on a little too much cologne. They don't appear to have that many big names coming through, which kind of surprised me. The tickets are way overpriced unless you go on a night when they have no-name local acts. You do have to buy two things, it's not optional, and they are very expensive considering you've already paid so much to get in and play Santa with your neighbor. I don't know what the other location is like, but I definitely won't be back to this one. read more

Went there last night. This place is miserable. The comedians where good but the wait staff was awful. I'm fine with a two drink minimum but they do it in such a distracting way - making noise and interrupting you constantly to get your check or order your drinks. The wait staff is constantly stepping over you - our specific waitress had the worst mood I've ever seen. The staff there makes it seems like your bothering them just by being there. I know they have to deal with a bunch of drink people but the two drink minimum doesn't help that. Will never go back. read more

Worst experience at a comedy club, ever, in all of the world. Bought a drink upstairs, guy downstairs insists on seeing my ID again (drink is in hand). Very rude about it (bad). Got seated close to the stage (good). Half way through first comedian, same front desk guy asks us not to laugh so loud (bad). Comedian proceeds to hit on my wife when I go to the bathroom (bad). We start to leave (good). Assistant of same comedian asks my wife to stay (crude). We leave and I complain to the manager; tells us to get out (very bad). I wish I were making this up, but I am not. Visited Comedy Works on 11/22/16 and laughed a lot at the acts. The shining star of the evening though, was our server, Pamela. She was friendly, attentive, kind and patient. She was the most memorable moment of the evening and I'll be returning because of her kick a@@ service. read more

It is inexcusable in this modern age for a company that sells tickets to not have the ability for purchasers to transfer tickets between themselves. My friend got sick and gave me his ticket printout, box office would not release them to me. Staff was dismissive and overall uninterested in trying to find a solution to the problem. I came here on a Saturday night with a friend and really loved it! The particular night that I was here, it was Joe DeRosa as the comic. The opening acts were great, too, and the expected two-item-purchase minimum wasn't too awful - I got 2 club sodas and they seemed fine with that. The facility itself is pretty bare-bones, and you end up pretty close to whoever is next to you, but that's okay. I recommend coming early to get a good seat. Where to begin. Do I focus on the Talen't act where the opener focused on how funny and advantageous rape is? Or do I focus on how the management called me "too sensitive for comedy" after wanting to leave because of the nature of the subject matter? Let's focus on the later. My boyfriend and I ordered a round of drinks to enjoy while watching the main Talent after thoroughly enjoying the opening acts. Instead, the main Talent decided to focus on rape for the first 10 minutes of his skit which made my boyfriend and I extremely uncomfortable. We quietly left the show and asked the management not to charge us for the round of drinks as they hadn't be consumed in any way yet and were purchased under the premise that the show would focus on similar subject matter to the opening acts. Instead, the manager told me I was "too sensitive for comedy" and I shouldn't have ordered the drinks if I couldn't take the content of the skits and instead, proceeded to tell me how stupid I was for attending the show if I was going to be offended. He made me feel ridiculous for thinking rape isn't funny. Don't attend this venue unless you think rape and kiddie porn is funny. read more

I've been to Comedy Works a gazillion times and I am never disappointed. Yes, you wait in a long line like cattle but the staff is friendly and efficient. Yes, seating is cramped but laughing with a stranger is fun. Yes, there is a two-drink minimum but you are supporting a locally owned establishment that supports local talent. Yes, the food is only so-so but the waitstaff is amazing. Yes, you are sitting in a drab basement but this old-school comedy club attracts amazing national talent that loves coming here. So, go already- but be prepared for the cheek pain that follows too much laughing. read more

This is a great comedy club. I've been here and the Landmark location several times and I've never had a bad experience. Recently my wife and I went to see Tom Segura and were thrilled! The host was hilarious and the openers were great too, and as usual, Tom Segura killed it. What really made this a 5 star rating for us was that we were given seats against a wall behind some tall guys and I asked the manager(?) Kazie if we could take two open seats in the second row right in front of the stage. I assumed they were saved but they weren't and she let us move without charging us and let us move our food and beverage order as well. The seats made the night awesome. The food is palatable and the drinks are reasonably priced. Most comedians I listen to (podcasts etc) say that Comedy Works is one of the best clubs in America. Validated parking, decent food and beer selection and great comedians is a hell of a combo. Seat comfort could be better but I'm not dropping a star for that. I'll be back soon! P.S.- Shout out to Wende, you may not remember me but when Dave Chappelle did a secret show at the Landmark a year ago you hooked my friends and I up with killer balcony seats when there were almost no spots left. Went there last night to see Bill Burr and had a great time! I was super impressed with the waitstaff but agree with some of the other reviews of the food. (You're right in Larimer Square so there are plenty of options around you to get some good eats before or after). Stick with drinks and you're good to go. I actually thought the local comedians, including the MC, were even more funnier (is that correct grammer? probably not but who cares?) than Bill Burr. Everyone was very professional and I would definitely go back. Check it out! read more

I went to this Comedy Works to see Craig Ferguson and the experience was less then laughable. The system that they have set in place at this Comedy Works just doesn't work. You have to show up at least 45 minutes in advance to stand in line and even then you could be placed in the back. The employees are not friendly especially the servers for the show. I would not suggest this specific Comedy works! Go to the one in Greenwood Village! read more
