Went in midday and we were the only ones there. Food was pretty good, service was good, food was fresh and quick. No complaints at all! Comet Burger has been a staple of the downtown Royal Oak scene for years now - it's a great place for late night eats...or Labor Day lunch, as it turns out. My daughter and I tried to attend Arts, Beats and Eats this weekend but we were turned away because we had our dog with us. We decided to grab some lunch at a place where our dog would be welcome (aka a place with a patio). Comet was open, not busy, and said our dog was welcome outside. We ordered sliders, fries, onion rings and milkshakes. It was about $20 for two people. Everything was tasty and well prepared. Special shout out to the onion rings, which were deep fried perfection (and the real reason I wanted to go to AB&E). The service was friendly and quick. We will definitely be back! read more

Quant hole in the wall burger joint located in Royal Oak off the main drag. Since I'm on somewhat of an eating plan I wasn't able to enjoy a burger so I opted for the southwestern chicken sandwich minus the bun. I have to say the chicken was juicy and topped with bacon it was amazing. The food is grilled fresh, and everything is prepared to order. The burgers and sliders smelled so good and will definitely be on my list to try next time I come here. I have only ever ordered the Comet burgers with cheese with chili cheese fries. The Comet burger is a single hamburger patty with American cheese, sauteed onions, and pickles. The bun is steamed. Insanely awesome greasy spoon! The best sliders, cheese fries and milk shakes around. It's not fancy but it's incredible!

Sliders are pretty good. Not quite up to par with Brayz or Hunter House, but far better than White Castle. I like how Comet sliders come with pickles on the side so you can add them just before biting, COLD, along with your mustard (you'll have to add your own ketchup too, if you're into that kind of thing). Waffle fries are nicely crisped and come in generous portions. 3.5 stars, rounded down. Nothing wrong with the place, there's just too much fierce competition nearby in this category. Metro Detroit is very fortunate to be the home of so many good-to-great slider joints. read more

Such a simple concept for a place but they do it so well. Very greasy burgers, good milkshakes, great fries, great atmosphere. It can't get much better than that. I love going here after a long night at the bars in Royal Oak because they are opened later so that those that need some food to sober up before they go home can do so. You order your burger, it's cooked right in front of you, and it has that old-time restaurant setting. Upon waking in you will notice the feel of an old school burger place, this place has been around since I was a child and is one of the few places still standing in downtown Royal Oak over the years. I have tried many burger places in the area and I really had higher expectations for this place since I haven't had it in years. The sliders are fairly large but extremely greasy! The bun was literally dripping with grease. As I am writing this I am wiping off the grease from my thumbs on my screen. No bueno. If your looking for sliders I would instead recommend Little Brothers Burgers down the street instead. Very inexpensive burger joint. Don't expect anything fancy - food served in plastic baskets. The gal who took our order was super nice. We sat outside at one of only two tables. It was fun to people watch since the restaurant is on the main drag. For the price, the food here is very good. Burgers were solid, fries crispy (could have used a little seasoning), cheese sticks rich. Hubby said chocolate soda was just the way he likes them. The place looks like an old malt shop from the 50s; stools bolted into the ground in front of a speckled white counter. They lined the walls with record albums; there's a lot to look at, and a lot to eat. I'd suggest trying one of their milkshakes; made by hand, Comet kept with their decor and make shakes the old fashioned way - not the low-carb low-fat way! If you're looking to fill up, three or four of their Comet burgers will do the trick; a beef patty grilled with onions (or pickles) on top of a steamed bun. It's the staple of American dining!
