Country Boy Restaurant has some charming qualities, but there are a few things to be aware of. The building is very old, and while they do have a wheelchair-accessible parking spot, the lack of a wheelchair-accessible bathroom was a big drawback. This could make it difficult for some guests to fully enjoy their visit. On the positive side, the waitress was incredibly kind and attentive, which made the experience much better. The food was pretty good--classic comfort dishes done well. If accessibility isn't a concern, it's a cozy spot for a meal, but I hope they consider updating their facilities to be more accommodating for all guests. read more

Country Boy Restaurant is a kitschy, classic, oldschool diner- the type that feels endlessly comforting and always reliable. I come here for breakfast at least once a week and the food is always consistent and just how i like it. Buttery toast, cheesy omelettes and savory crispy hash browns. Their breakfast skillets, with sunny side up eggs over fried potatoes, are also a smash hit. When you want a hot diner coffee the morning after a late night out, Country Boy has you covered. I'm a breakfast fanatic, especially country breakfast. So when I saw this restaurant here, I knew that I had to try it. I was happy to learn that they were open and providing curbside service. I called my order in, speaking to a very sweet woman on the phone, I knew that I would be back. The breakfast didn't disappoint. The menu is extensive. They make jyst about anything one would crave. Waited over 20 minutes for cheese sticks. Food was nothing like it used to be. Service was terrible. Both orders were wrong. Literally spent an hour for lunch for 2 people and it wasn't busy. You can't miss the kitchey if a bit scary sign for Country Boy in Hazel Park. Seemingly there since Hazel Park was out in the country the old school place delivers solid food at a great price. Hot turkey sandwich was a nach with fries and a Coke. Bread was nice and dense and held up under the gravy Huge portions and reasonably priced, a must stop. Hipster free so far. me and the wife went there on Tuesday the 14 of January for breakfast when i first went in I could tell it was cold inside. as i sat down i noticed they had a small propane heater with a open flame it had hoses leading to the kitchen i was thinking is this safe i don't know if so i know i wouldn't do that in my house. well i ordered and so did my wife when the food came back it had a hair on the plate. so, they made her another one. as i sat there watching the cook as he was eating while making my food, never seen a place like that. that's why i gave it a two star. the only good thing there was our server who was nice if it wasn't for that i give it a zero if i could. don't worry i well never be back there .i went there many years ago and it was so nice wonder what happen read more

We came in and the restaurant was rather empty. Only a table or two of people. We were given our menus and drinks quickly. Our waitress Donna came back at a great time to get our order (didn't pester every 30 seconds but didn't wait 15 minutes) And then it went down hill. We were talking for a bit when we heard the cook rudely complain to the waitress that he couldn't read any of her ticket. (Ours) and then she called it back to him, and he started giving her even more attitude. And now my girlfriend gets served food, we mention she had the wrong eggs, come to find out it was someone else's breakfast who ordered after us...... so my girlfriend is now eating and I'm still waiting for my food. They bring her the eggs she actually ordered, a couple minutes later they give her the extra ham she had ordered. I'm still waiting After being there for about an hour, waiting for about 45, I get served my corned beef hash that was thrown on the grill and then flipped onto my plate. And it was a "patty" size smaller than a burger patty for a McDouble. All this time the cook keeps making comments and giving the waitress attitude..... if your going to have a open-walled kitchen in your dinning room, you should make sure your cooks realize customers can hear them. read more

Moved away more than 40 years ago out to CA. Been back to hazel park 3 times since then. Always returned here. In fact I worked here in 1974 and always had good memories if the place and the food was always good old fashioned American fare. Visited 2 days ago for breakfast. The interior is worn out and the large both in the corner is still ripped up as it was 10 years ago during my last visit. The front is littered with stored or discarded items. This is a nice little small town feeling dive spot. They are quick to greet you and take your order. The food comes out pretty quick and they have a good variety of stuff to pick from. Breakfast, lunch, and some entrees as well. They do have a patio that looks right onto 9 Mile as well when the weather permits. If you're looking for a decent, cheap, quick breakfast this is a good option. read more

I have seen this place pop up a couple of times and decided to try it this week. They had very limited options, especially for vegetarians. They also only had one kind of hot sauce which is always disappointing. The omelet itself seemed runny and not well made. The service was alright at best. This place!!! lets just talj abouf if, been here before usually great service. But tonight me ans 7 of my friends walk in. We were greeted!!! but after we just got constant dirty looks. We were a little loud, but who isn't on a Saturday. But no service from any of the servers, but we did get waters from a busser. Ahhh, Country Boy. The infamous worst restaurant in Hazel Park (and arguably the entire Detroit area). I can see your creepy namesake on your huge sign from a mile away (lit up like a Christmas tree at all hours of the night) as well as the frighteningly grotesque specials you are trying to entice us with. Fish Mac and Goulash? Gee, let me think. Ummm... no thanks. Speaking of that sign, the specials are almost ALWAYS spelled wrong! Mostocholi instead of Mostaccioli is a personal favorite. It's kind of a game for my wife and I to drive past the Country Boy sign and wonder how we will manage to be offended anew each time (whether by terrifying food items, gross abuse of the English language, or both). As for the food quality? Terrible. I have actually eaten here more times than I care to admit (they say the true indicator of insanity is repeatedly and knowingly doing something of which you are cognizant is insane) and I cannot with a good conscience recommend you order anything more adventurous than a simple grilled cheese and fries. Though in truth you are better off just going somewhere else. There is always going to be a better option, even in the middle of the night... which is when this place seems to do most of its business, and coincidentally when it happens to be at its crustiest and most terrifying. I come in here about once a week as it is very near my work. I only get a half hour for lunch and country boy is usually fast enough for me to get back in time. My go to is a Patty Melt and fries, and they do it pretty well. It is a basic, no-frills meal, but made well and tasty. The service has always been pleasant and the place is great for lunch. I can see myself stopping in here late night if I am ever in the area, and unless you are way too "classy" to be here, then I can't see a problem with this local dive/diner. I have never experienced rudeness or bugs like others, but the lunch crew is probably different than the dinner/late-night crew so, YMMV. read more

I dig the Country Boy. There's no pretention, no ambiance...just a good down-home diner. The last time I was there, it was an after-bar meal with my girlfriends; I was pretty shocked to see how many people were eating huge plates of food at 3 a.m. This is probably because I am old, and don't do late night eats very often. But they're open 24 hours, so they're a hot spot for late night eats after the Ferndale bars close. Anyway, the food: they have great, down-home cooking here. Breakfasts are big, cheap and cooked to order (my eggs were perfect). They also have delicious homemade cobbler, country ham, and chicken and dumpling soup. Give it a try. read more

Being an HP lifer, I felt it only fair to write a review of Country Boy...God knows i've eaten there enough! They have done a lot of remodeling in the last few years, and also put an outdoor patio in front, which is nice in the summer months. I've been here for every meal imaginable! From late night after - bar greasy breakfasts, to salads, to dinner plates, and there has never been a time I've been disappointed! Not in the food anyway. Sometimes, when they get new waitresses in, there are too many people so they wander around and look lost. The only other complaint is about the owner. Blonde lady who is in there almost all the time. She's very moody. One day she'll be really friendly and chatty, and the next time she's bitchy and snotty even. I understand it takes a lot to run a restaurant but there have been times when she's been so snotty to a customer, i've seen them leave. The sweet tea is awesome and you can tell it's brewed and not from a bottle, and they always bring me extra butter when I ask for it. They don't forget, like a lot of places that drop off your food and just leave you a check. The best thing about Country Boy is that it's open 24hours!! Check carry out orders before you leave! You either do not get everything, the items that are right are not made according to the menu, or both. I ordered a stacked ham with fries. The stack ham was two pieces of ham on toast. Menu indicated it was ham with cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo. There were no fries. The turkey club was correct and good. So if you are lucky enough to get what you ordered and it was made right then your meal should be delicious. Doubtful that will happen though. read more

Went there for breakfast, because we wanted to try a new place since we've been to most places in the area. Thought it would be decent, if not good, since there were quite a bit of people there at 11am on weekday, but we were wrong! Service was slow except for the hostess that kept walking by letting us know the waitress would be with us soon...um not I went with the veggie omelette and it was dry, rubbery and had no flavor. I'm sure one drenched in gravy and/or cheese would have been a better choice... The hashbrowns..WTH..I have never had mushy hashbrowns and here they were!!! The toast was soggy..maybe from sitting in the window?? Needless to say I just picked at my food and left hungry :( Hubby had coffee, which was only refilled once though he had his mug empty for at least 5 minutes (again lack of good service). He had scrambled eggs, which had a strange color to them and according to him were "eehhh". Along with that he had a biscuit and gravy, but he didn't finish his food either. Overall, glad we tried since we know never to go back... There are too many good breakfasts places in the area for country boy to charge what they do and deliver so poorly. read more
