They have you call to ensure a room is open which any cat owner can appreciate. I brought my very sick 12 y/o cat in with no idea what was going on. They were so sweet to my boy and to me when I was clearly distraught. Unfortunately his cbc showed severe anemia and he needs a specialist. I asked for meds and fluids to get him by until then and they gave me the quote which was an acceptable price. I was so grateful for the compassion I received from reception, the tech, and the Dr. They were busy but I never felt like they forgot about us -- they even checked in to tell me his bloodwork was taking longer to process due to the anemia. The tech who spent the most time with us was phenomenal--she was so good with my boy and she comforted me as well. I recommend them and plan on using them in the future as well.

I got second opinion from another vet and they also said to find a specialist. I was told he would need CT scans, ultrasounds, and surgery. I was overwhelmed and desperately trying to set up the earliest appointments I could get for him. But within that time, it continued to grow. Within a week and a half it went from the size of a golf ball, to the size of a grapefruit. I felt like I wasn't getting the immediate help my dog needed. That's when we came to AEC and met with Dr. Melissa. She had the confidence and experience to perform a procedure on my dog that was absolutely necessary and as a result, she saved him from a great deal of pain, and me from a great deal of panic. (Not to mention thousands of dollars). Melissa introduced herself to my dog so he could became familiar with her. Then she explained to me what she would do, what she was looking for, and what would happen next. All before she took him to the back of the clinic. After the initial check she came back with more details, explanations, and information about the next steps she would take. One thing I greatly appreciated is that Melissa gave me an estimated time as to how long the procedure MIGHT take, but she emphasized that an extended wait time did NOT mean something had gone wrong. That helped settle my anxiety and keep me from watching the clock too closely. I admire emergency physicians and everyone in this field so much. They have to treat traumatic and urgent situations while also balancing their compassion for the animals they are helping. Melissa walks that line with kindness and integrity. She trusts her intuition and seemingly puts herself in the position of her patients. As a result, she provides them with not only the most comprehensive and quality care, she also provides them with a great deal of comfort. One month later, I'm sitting on the couch next to my HEALTHY dog writing a review for this amazing doctor, Melissa. We are so grateful for you! I want to wrap this review up by acknowledging and praising the entire staff at the AEC. My interactions with the receptionists were particularly wonderful. One of them even helped me carry my still somewhat sedated, nearly 80 pound dog through the ice and snow in order to safely get him in my car! If you're having an emergency and need an exceptional doctor, a clean and calming clinic, with the kindest and most compassionate staff, this is where you need to go.

Rico had many medical and behavioral issues over the years and each time Dr Singh would explain what was going on and what could be done about it. He called me with lab results and answered all of my questions. I never felt that unnecessary treatment was recommended. He and his staff are professional, knowledgeable, empathetic, kind and compassionate. They always had Rico's comfort in mind until the very end. They kept our dog as calm as possible and got the job done, which isn't easy when the dog weighs over 150 lbs and needs to be held up. Dr. Schollenberger and his staff are obviously passionate about their work and it shows in their professionalism and commitment to quality care.

We received a price outline of all the different options which was helpful. The tone of the visit with the vet was very poor. We saw the surgical oncologist. I'm sure she's a great surgeon but bedside manner is also important. We felt rushed and her hand was literally on the door at different times. She didn't introduce herself, ask our name, or bring much humanity at all to the conversation. Again, I understand that she's a surgeon and that can be typical but we are humans and with a cancer diagnosis having a more empathic response would be better. The front staff was kurt, cold, did not smile once. When I said goodbye have a good day I was met with silence. The ray of sunshine was the medical assistant who was pleasant and warm and kind. We ended up getting the information we needed but if we did pursue treatment I'm not sure we would have proceeded with that place that seemed cold and uninviting.

I was however compensated for that since it's a 40+min drive there and she had to pick him up and take him back to my house. Today, I left work to take my dog for his appointment (to top it off we're short staff and I had to jump through hoops to make this happen). I had to be back for work by 330 so an hour drive there, app at 1:30 visit should take maybe an hour since it was a consult and maybe bloodwork and then hour back to work (sounded simple enough). However I waited a half hour in the waiting room before asking how long it'd be for them to tell me they're running an hour or hour and a half behind (you'd think they would tell you that when you walk in). I had to be back for work by 330 and it was just after 2 by this point. Then received a call for his "appointment" 4 1/4 hours after his scheduled visit time and have to go to my local vet for the bloodwork I would have gotten done there. For both these incidents it could have been solved with a simple phone call. "Hey we can't do surgery today, don't bother driving all the way here" or "hey we're running this far behind, would 3 o'clock work for you". But no, just show up and be disappointed! I would highly suggest calling in advance, since they don't have the courtesy to call, before you go to your appointment if you have a long drive or plans after.
