Downtown on Canal Street in Lower East Side, came across Coming Soon, this small furniture/home goods/tchotchke/games & toy/etc. store, which bright colorful assortment just pops out and shouts through the picture window, "Come on in. Check us out!" You may categorize it all as modern design, playful, and some things as kitsch - definitely all joyful and some just fun! Coming Soon finds itself on the blocks of Canal along with other recent trendy additions to Canal between Seward Park and the Allen Street park promenade, encouraged by the opening of the exclusive Nine Orchard Hotel, with its Corner Bar and Swan Room, in the renovated historic landmark Jarmulowsky Building across the street. While I'm not in the market for their ware for my own home, there are things I might consider at Coming Soon as gifts in the future - whether for the design or for the fun value! read more

I follow Coming Soon on Instagram and have thought about making purchases from them dozens of times, so when I learned that their store is in the Lower East Side, where I was going to be doing some exploring and shopping with a friend a few weeks ago, I had to stop in. The store isn't large (smaller than I had imagined), but it still offers a pretty large selection of items (they're a furniture design and gift shop that sell a lot of home goods - from the useful to straight up tchotchkes that bring joy but don't do anything at all)! I particularly love their home goods related to dinner parties (cocktail classes, placemats, everything you need to host the coolest dinner). It's small but has some great stuff. Definitely check it if you're shopping around the LES. read more

BOUGIE home decor store, perfect for window shopping. I started following them on Instagram afterward. I was more focused on their glassware, the store isn't that big but they had the most fun glassware, think pickles and olives and lemons. I was worried I was like a bull in a china shop as their items are quite expensive and wouldn't want to break anything. I don't remember interacting with the staff but there are some negative reviews on here -- I mean it's a hipster bougie spot, but I didn't feel unwelcome for not buying anything. read more

Coming Soon? More like never coming back lmao. Annoyed bitchy voice: "Just so you know, we're closed." (Before closing time.) I was slamming a slice of pizza so I could go inside where my friends were. I politely walked inside, smiled at the two working the desk (I guess??), didn't touch any single object with pizza hands RESPECTFULLY because I'm not a HEATHEN, all while I was verbally admiring everything with my friend. The girls working basically asked us to leave. A "hey just so you know, we will be closing soon but feel free to browse just a little longer and let me know if we can help you with anything" would have been more chill, and possibly would have ended in a sale because everything in here was amazing and I wanted to get something. Like...do your job? What a waste of employees. Crying laughing at these 1 star reviews because apparently this place has a bad rep for a thumb up their asses attitude. It kinda looks like a art gallery from the outside. And then as you walk around the small space you notice some house wares, a "Mission Chinese" t shirt, some aromatics and a lot of over priced trinkets. I personally was drawn to the vintage light green kitchen wares. There was a beautiful pitcher and some tumblers I had my eye on. Compared to the rest of the shop, they were also the most affordable. A little too expensive for my taste. And other than the green items, not much for my personal taste. But I did love the pup that greeted me at the entrance. read more

Look, it's a cool place. Their buyers have a keen eye and the brands they carry on the up. However, it's pricey. Not just good quality pricey but the unnecessary pricey where you don't understand why this ceramic plate costs $150. A fun and hip design store with lots of great gift ideas, for yourself and others. I bought some Sabre utensils that are hard to find anywhere else and was unfortunately given the wrong color. I emailed them about it and they replied with a friendly email saying that they didn't have the ones that I ordered in stock. I ended up exchanging for a different color in a quick and easy transaction. Despite that hiccup, my experience at the shop was still a good one and I was glad to support a local nyc business. Great, one of a kind pieces that you'd always see online, but wish was readily available in person. Though it may be on the pricey side, I'd recommend this to people who carefully pick and choose what they want in their homes. Got some awesome lemon, lime and clementine shaped soap (quirky, irreverent, and awesome in its' own way). They have some great items that hit that slightly witty, understated, quirky part of me. An awesome gem to have in LES/Chinatown area. They also have a really cool dog who likes to chew a bone over on your feet the moment you walk in the store. Great items, cool people/dog and definitely worth taking the time to analyze and view each item. You may even decide to purchase an item for you home. You won't regret it! read more

I purchased an item online after seeing it on Instagram. Unfortunately it was a lot smaller than I expected and I requested a refund because their website states they'll do store credit within 30 days of purchasing.. well I made my request on Instagram and by emailing them on their website, and it's been days and they haven't bothered responding to me at all! Now I'm stuck with a $90 cinder block that I have no use for. My fault for overlooking the dimensions but they could at least provide basic customer service instead of ignoring their own policy. I really loved this shop before experiencing the most bizarre thing today (around 4:50pm) with the girl working there. When my friend and I walked into the store, the worker was helping a customer pay so we started browsing. As soon as she finished helping the other customer, she told us that she was going to close the store saying that she felt "weird" being there. I thought that that was a weird thing to say, but I didn't have any complaints about leaving if the shop was closing (usually the store closes at 7PM on a Saturday but she closed it at 5PM today) so we headed to the door. As the girl working started to turn off the lamps in the store (we were still walking to the door), she said that "it's not the time to be shopping" and that we should be "marching". She also stated that she didn't want to sell things right now because she felt that the people shopping right now will most likely be Trump supporters. Her remarks didn't really hit us until we were on the streets and walking because it was so beyond ridiculous and rude. We are NOT Trump supporters and she has no right to judge anyone who aren't at the march because 1) she's not at the march 2) it's none of her business. No matter how amazing the products are in this store, such close-mindedness and illogical flow of thought will not get her very far and I will not be returning ever (not that she would care--she doesn't really seem to care about her customers). read more

I love this store. It's got a great mix of super well curated and restored vintage pieces and newer pieces made by independent artists. I see a lot of people are complaining about the prices being "unnecessarily high", and I don't think that they're taking into account that they're selling limited run unique pieces made by smaller designers who don't even have the luxury of hiring people for help; they have to sell their work for a certain amount to turn a profit. The owners are lovely and the staff is incredibly friendly without being pushy. If you want something cheap and pedestrian this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for high quality unique pieces, you should definitely check them out. read more

So disappointed in this store. Somehow I got on their mailing list, and it looked like a cool shop with unique gifts. I live in LA so it's not as if I can't do fabulous shopping here. In early December they emailed gift ideas. I found a couple items I thought would make great gifts for Hanukkah. One was a gold fortune cookie in a takeout container. Very clever. The description said this item will ship the week of December 11. Here it is December 18 and no package arrived. I emailed them asking for a refund and cancellation of order. 3 hours later I get an email from them saying my package shipped. Quite coincidental, don't you think? Wrote email saying how disappointed I am in their store and that I had no Hanukkah gifts to deliver. I did get a quick response, but beginning with, "I'm sorry you feel that way," which is a response I can't stand as it is condescending and implied I'm overreacting. I will never shop with this place again and am sorry I put my trust in an out of town store I knew only online. read more

A different employee from this business contacted me and apologized for what happened. He was kind, understanding, eloquent, and seemed sincerely sorry. He also gave me a gift card for $25.00 as well as waving the shipping charge for the original item that I purchased. I finally received the item, and I was very pleased with it, so everything has worked out in a satisfactory manner. I am willing to give this shop another shot. After all, everything did happen during the Christmas holiday--things do have a tendency to become hectic. While I still feel that my original review was justified given the circumstances, I am willing to move forward and try again. The shop truly does have beautiful and unique items, and I will try buying something in the near future and seeing how it goes. I'll update again after I've done that. Currently, I am willing to give this business my cautious endorsement. It takes guts to admit making a mistake and even more to apologize for it, so hats off to Logan.
