My husband and I went to Commerce kitchen last night for dinner and thought it was just ok. The service was great, everyone was so nice, however, the food fell short. I got the half chicken and my husband got the coffee crusted steak. I thought the chicken and steak were good but the sides weren't hot, the potatoes were a bit hard, and felt like they had been sitting out for awhile. First time visitor to Commerce Kitchen. I was visiting from California (my brother and sil live here). First off, the staff was AMAZING! My 90 year old mom was with us and everyone was extremely accommodating from beginning to end. Our server, Ken-del (sp?) made the night special.... Such a great guy! Our group of 4 had 4 different dishes. My mom had the prime rib (14 oz) with garlic potatoes and greens. Our friends had the flounder with asparagus and hollandaise and raviolis with short ribs and I had the seared salmon with greens. All dishes were really good (the flounder and raviolis were devoured!) but I thought the salmon was a bit salty as were the greens (but that could just be my taste buds). We couldn't pass on dessert so we ordered ice cream and a bread pudding to share. The bread pudding was not the traditional bread pudding.... It was more like a cinnamon roll. Not crunchy and did not have the traditional boozy sauce. But overall, it was a wonderful night..... great atmosphere and the service was top notch! read more

Commerce Kitchen was a treat and a gem. I haven't eaten out at a sit-down restaurant in a while and this is definitely a favorite in Huntsville. I tried their fried brussels sprouts as an appetizer on a whim and I'm glad I did. They were crispy, incredibly savory, and the dipping sauce they came with was mouth-watering. I had the New York Strip Steak as an entree and I have to admit, that was one of the best steaks I've ever had. it was cooked just to order and the potatoes and asparagus complimented the dish very well. Writing about it alone is making me hungry, to be candid. This is the third straight year that I've been coming to Commerce Kitchen and it's been worth the trip every time. Mom and I come to CK for brunch once a year usually when it's Easter or Mother's Day, but this year, we weren't able to come to CK until today because of Covid-19. I usually get the fried chicken and waffles when I come to CK for brunch, but this time, I had to settle for something different and today, I got the Commerce Omelette. Mom got the Twickenham Orignal and she loved it! Hopefully I will be able to come back again this year, but if not, I'm hoping to visit CK next year. :) read more

A nice, fine dining experience. Our party of 20 was accommodated quickly and we were able to order and receive drinks quickly. All of them were a hit. And were well presented. The waiter admitted to not being very helpful and had to run to look at the soup for the evening. It was a bit strange at a place that was serving $30+ plates. The lamb chops were nice and tender but a bit boring. I made a mistake in not ordering the steaks as that looked like the winner of the night. The desserts took the cake though. Where to start?! I've been wanting to try the Commerce Kitchen for quite some time now. My expectations were based on their reviews and their appetising sounding menu. We were frankly astounded to be seated at a booth which guaranteed we would not ever see service given it was at the far back of the restaurant and tucked in a corner behind a partition so remote that I even forgot we were there. We ordered our food from a waiter clearly disinterested in a single word we uttered. His general demeanour was one of irritation at having to be there at all. We ordered the Avocado Toasts with Shrimp as a Starter, then the Breakfast Tacos, Shrimp and Grits, Fried Green Tomato Benedict and a side of pancakes. We waited and waited without having our drinks refilled or being checked on for over half an hour in an empty restaurant. Finally our food arrived...followed shortly by our starters. Four toast points smeared with a stingy amount of avocado and sprinkled with very little onion and tomato. $12 for this sumptuous dish no less. No shrimp in sight, so we informed our waiter who took the dish back to the kitchen, then returned with the same dish, informed us in a condescending and accusatory voice that the dish would have to be remade and that next time we should ask for the shrimp. We replied that we had and he said "My bad" and left. We were left then with no drinks to try and eat shrimp and grits with a fork and no spoon, no salt or pepper to season the bland food placed before us. I had to climb out of our awkward, hidden booth to go seek seasoning and a spoon since we had once more been left and forgotten. The shrimp had a delicious flavour to them but the grits were bland and watery. The breakfast tacos were atrocious! $15 for 3 small corn tacos smeared with beans and topped with a fried egg. They had zero flavour except for the sharp corn taste of the corn taco. The "souffléd" pancakes were dense and cold, couldn't even melt butter on them. My fried green tomato Benedict consisted of untoasted English muffins topped with a cold fried green tomato, cold left over pulled pork, a "poached" egg and Cajun Hollandaise sauce. Not a bite of it was remotely warm. One egg was cooked to perfection and the second was not edible as it was quite raw. The finest drizzle of hollandaise was so sparingly applied that you couldn't taste it. I asked for a little more as it was mainly over the raw egg. When informed the egg was raw the replacement waitress we were assigned after complaining we received no service from our waiter Tyler didn't even offer to replace it, simply brought the hollandaise I asked for and left. She did at least get us some drinks. The manager offered us free dessert to compensate for the cluster of disappointments and we ordered two. A divine peanut butter pie clearly made somewhere else and a creme brûlée we really regretted asking for. We were informed they had to run next door to get it and im sure they meant they ran to the hardeware shop to get the packet mix to make what was clearly packet mix vanilla pudding with a sprinkle of sugar on top which was then burned with a torch. No crust whatsoever and the brûlée was served ice cold in the middle. All the while we could clearly hear their wait staff talking about us and making fun of us. So in short. Deplorable snotty service, followed by even worse food, a hideous dessert and a steep check. We will never be back and honestly....I can only assume the place has gone downhill since they got the good reviews because I struggle to imagine anyone being happy with what we experienced. read more

Love love love this place! It's a fancy kitchen! Eat at the quaint bar in the bar or dine at a table in the adjacent room. Good for large parties with advance notice. We had a party of 7 and our salads were brought out pretty quick. Try the goat cheese salad (I still dream about that fried goat cheese patty) and the braised beef tagliatelle pasta. The longer it sits the thicker the sauce mmmmmmmm. My coworkers plates looked amazing too. Very disappointing. Diners were asked to "hold onto" dirty silverware in between courses and there's nowhere to put them other than directly on the tabletop. Totally lost us with that. Menu said cake was served with candied pecans, but there were no pecans. Menu said cheesecake was served with berry medley, but there were no berries. I showed waitress the menu and she acted surprised I said anything. I didn't even mention the other dishes we had were missing ingredients listed on the Mother's Day Brunch menu. Scrambled eggs were overcooked, eggs Benedict with pulled pork was very disappointing and I ended up eating only the English muffin with a friend green tomato. Restaurant atmosphere was disappointing too... small, loud, unwelcoming, bad vibe. I expected much more from this chef/owner. Waitress was very smiley, so 2 stars rather 1. First visit on a Sunday, it was a total bust. I would have to visit another time to see if there are any differences. This place is expensive but not top notch. So, we were hungry for different foods, my friend and I, I took time to visit their website, research their menu & decided to go to Commerce instead of Rhythm. It would've been nice to know that on Sundays there are no optional menus, only one. You have the Sunday Supper menu and everything is pretty much chosen for you. Sunday supper consist of ($40 per person) -1 fried green tomato per person (2people) w/pimiento cheese sauce which looked close to vomit. Cut nicely, breaded ok but bland, cold, and they put the sauce on it before bringing it out- -1 biscuit + butter. They were good, but having only one, c'mon -Premade & pre-dressed slim, spring salad. Look just because it's lettuce doesn't make it a salad. It needed some pizazz (add cheese, croutons? Some type of option instead of the pre-mixed bag of greens everyone gets at Kroger ) & the dressing was too sweet. -choice of steak, brisket, catfish, pork chop, chicken cooked the way they'd like it. Both my friend and I agreed that his brisket with sprouts & cold green beans looked like the week's LEFTOVERS! -Maddening option between two desserts, not the decadent options seen in ads, their website or pictures from months ago either. BASICALLY, you don't have a choice in choosing your own meal. There were far too many staff for an empty restaurant; they crowded the dining room door entry & chatted it up or stared. No ambiance and it was chilly and uninviting. I would dress to the nines and be picture perfect for a fine dining experience &, though advertised as such & being pricey, it wasn't that type of party. It stated "casual" in the reviews and that's correct. But this restaurant is reaching for fine dining. Commerce, you must offer the public a variety, what about vegans, vegetarians, kosher, children etc... if I pop in on a Sunday, provide me & my party an optional menu-I LEFT HUNGRY! We believed that the food came out way too fast and was dry so it seemed leftover or prepared days or hours ahead. The floors were dirty and it was just a miserable time you guys. **The running theme was dry+ cold food that looked microwaved or zapped under a heat lamp. I am keeping an open mind & one day, will go back on whodoneits ticket ok. Lower the prices and raise the standards. Another picky thing, it may just be me, but I do not like it when restaurants have servers or bartenders who constantly wipe their hands across their dirty aprons & used towels to put their hands on an OPEN STRAW & stick it in my drink and bring it to me, yuck -don't do that again. While the food is good, the portions are particularly small relative to the price. I ordered the squash soup for $9 that was very good. It arrived in what most other restaurants would call a cup- size portion- not a bowl. I also had the trout entree which was good but, again, very small portion for $27.00! It came with a small serving of jasmine rice and 3 very small broccoli spears. My wife ordered a salad with grilled chicken that she liked but was still hungry after dinner! I asked if they had any dinner rolls. Our waitress responded "no", but offered Ritz crackers, "really?", I thought to myself , Ritz crackers? Who doesn't enjoy fresh baked bread or rolls when they eat at a nice restaurant? Not to be had at Commerce Kitchen. We ordered dessert and coffee. The coffee was very good. The key lime pie $9.00, was good, but ...yes you guess it, very small portion. And I'm certain that the teaspoon-sized dollop of whipped cream they served with it was Cool Whip!! Yuck! I think you're seeing a pattern: decent food, high price, small portions. Reminds of a Tapas-style restaurant considering the portions, but that only occurred to me after they served the food! I don't think we'll return anytime soon unless they either increase the portions or reduce the prices. Bonefish Grill and Connors Steak House are both a better value. The service was very good ; no complaints. Our waitress was very nice, cheerful and provided prompt, courteous service- kudos to her! This is such a great spot! It's in the middle of downtown Huntsville. The food is always so so excellent. It's a very small venue with indoor and outdoor seating but I would recommend a reservation due to the popularity and size. There is not a lot of available parking right near the restaurant. Others raved about the tagliatelle and the fried chicken. The wine by the glass selections are wonderful accompaniments and priced quite reasonably. The pork chops had no flavor at all so we asked for salt and pepper to help. The crisp brussel sprouts were not seasoned and so hard someone could have broken a tooth. The Mac and Cheese with Bacon looked good but again no taste. Thank God for salt and pepper! I don't know the story about the chef, but what is being sent out of that kitchen is just not good food. If this is "Southern food with a twist," leave the twist out of ours please." 3. The ambience of the restaurant was nothing special. It was full, so people were talking all around, which is fine. The outside of the restaurant is a nice old building, but the inside was obviously not meant for people to have drinks or coffee after their meal. In fact I ordered a cappuccino after dinner and the waitress forgot it so it was removed from our bill. This restaurant does not warrant the prices they charge. Enjoyed my dining experience on a Wednesday night in town for work with co workers! The restaurant is trendy chic with low lighting to create the perfect ambiance. Waiter was helpful in telling us about the specials and popular items on the menu. And prompt with our drink orders! We started with the hot crab dip with pita chips which was very tasty. For entrees, we ordered the shrimp skewers of the day, the roasted salmon and the new york strip. Everyone ate every bit of their meals! We even made sure to leave room for dessert! I've been wanting to try Commerce Kitchen since coming to the area and can only say I wish I had made the trip way sooner. It was a delightful dining experience that offered higher end food options at very reasonable prices. I came for brunch so can't speak to the dinner menu (although I will be coming back for dinner in the near future), but everything about the brunch menu was on point. To begin, my date and I both had "build your own" Bloody Mary's and mimosas. I went with the Bloody Mary options, which for $7 was a steal. The spread included shrimp, bacon, pickled veggies, cheeses, spices and various different hot sauces and steak sauces to flavor the Bloody Mary. As for food, we also both went with their "build your own" biscuit option, which allowed you to pick from several breakfast meats, veggies and sauces to control your own destiny. While many other breakfast options sounded (and looked) just as great, the $12 biscuit meal was exceptional for the price and plenty in size. I would advise you to seek reservations for either dinner or brunch, however, particularly in the winter when the outside patio closes down. The area is very small, which I find a little cozy but can understand how others might not be so fond of that atmosphere.
