Restaurant week shrimp & grits 8/13/21

My husband and I came here for the New Year's Eve 2025 dinner. It was his first visit, and I've always had a great experience. I made reservations through Resy for 8pm. We were there a few minutes early, but they went ahead and seated us. It took them quite a while to take our order. I got their espresso martini, which was fabulous as always. Their set menu for the evening was fantastic. I got the lobster ravioli and short rib. However, when it came to the dessert, they ran out of 2 of the 3 desserts, but somehow had a Dulce de leche cheesecake available. I wouldn't normally order that, but I definitely didn't want an Australian Strudel for dessert. Also, they seared us at the worst table, right where the doorway is and it really bothered my husband because everyone constantly had to walk by us.

This was a great little spot within walking distance of our hotel in downtown Huntsville. Very courteous staff and flavorful food. Had an oyster appetizer that was well presented and good. The lamb was delicious and everything was well seasoned with Pepper. We walked in without reservations without a wait but the place was full of patrons. The wait time was reasonable and the atmosphere was simple but warm. Wish I had room for dessert cause the options look great! 4++

Came on a Tuesday night with reservations made (recommended*). Was very cold in the restaurant, only reason I give it four stars. I was shivering Everything we ordered was fantastic and came out timely. Ordered oysters on half shell for appetizer & they charged us each .33 cents for crackers yikes. They were fresh and delicious. Entrées: Coffee crusted NY strip: cooked to perfection and delicious. Came with asparagus and potatoes. Porterhouse pork chop: best pork chop I've ever had. Juicy and I loved the sweet roasted Brussels for a side. Their Mac n cheese is so good! Harissa salmon : slightly undercooked (asked for medium); however great flavor Buttermilk fried chicken w/ gravy : Tuesday special. Once again the Mac n cheese is so great and the green beans were fresh. They have specials each night of the week; see menu picture. Drinks: jack rabbit and cherry blossom; quality drink with unique flavors.

Commerce Kitchen has been a staple in upscale dining in Huntsville for as long as I can remember. I'm not someone who does "fancy" too often so I've never had a chance to try it as other options have been more enticing on the rare occasion when we do want a finer dining experience. About two weeks ago I made plans to try Revivalist for lunch. I showed up there only to find their hours don't match what's posted on Google and they were closed for later lunch (~2:00 PM). I popped up the street to BeeZr and Poppy and Parliament. Also closed in the later afternoon. I was trying to kill time before an appointment and I really wanted to try a restaurant I'd never been to...so I strolled over to Commerce to find them open. Here goes! The entrance is actually on Franklin Street as opposed to the square, though there is a door leading out onto the square. I was seated promptly when I arrived. The restaurant was almost entirely empty except for one pair of older women. It's small and cramped inside and there's a row of seating in the aisle of the restaurant that I imagine would be very uncomfortable to sit in during prime time -- too much moving around. I wasn't dressed fancy at all and no one said anything, so that was nice for me. I was seated by a window with a view to the square, which I enjoyed. The decor is simple and classic -- just fine. The ladies' restroom is a one holer and clean. Displayed nearby is their recent health score. CK and other downtown establishments have been beset by iffy scores recently. This one read in the high 80s. Not absolutely a no-go for me personally, though you'd hope for better at an establishment like this in particular. CK is a James Boyce restaurant concept, as are many other upscale restaurants in the Huntsville area, especially downtown (to include Pane e Vino, Cotton Row, and Grille on Main in Providence). Honestly, I've historically not been terribly impressed with any of them, but I do always try to let each restaurant speak for itself. I was a little miffed to find the lunch menu here to be nearly identical to the lunch menu I got at Grille on Main when I visited about 2 years ago. I wish they'd freshen up the menu as well as at least provide a few differences between restaurants. Although I ordered the fried green tomato BLT at Grille on Main when I visited, nothing else on the menu really tempted me for lunch, so I ordered the same thing here. I also got a sweet tea to drink. Overall, I will say the fried green tomato BLT was about the same in quality. The tomatoes were sliced way too thick for my preference and the breading didn't bind super well and didn't have a lot of flavor. The pimento cheese was good but there wasn't enough of it. The bacon was cooked well and the bread was nicely toasted. One large improvement over GoM was the French fries. These didn't have the same super mealy frozen-fried texture like GoM did. They were also seasoned much better. The sweet tea needed both more sugar and more time steeping; it was very watery. Overall, the food was pretty average. On the bright side, lunch prices are more reasonable than dinner prices. One highlight of my experience was my waiter, Timothy. He was polite, attentive, and very pleasant. He wrote a kind thank you on my check and I noticed he had lovely handwriting. He was gracious with my compliment and we had a nice chat about how he does the lettering for the displays outside. Shout out to Timothy! I will likely continue to shop around the fancy restaurants in town. Still, this is a serviceable option for lunch downtown.

My main was good but not amazing - same can be said for the dessert. Took a long time to get our food. I will say, the appetizers here were amazing! We got one of almost everyone & it was superb!

Cute cozy restaurant downtown. There isn't parking so you need to find a parking meter to park. The food is delicious! i had the salmon and love the taste and the sides that came under it. The service was good and quick.

Happy hour 3-5 in the bar m-f. Good food service and libations at a lower price point.. comfortable padded bar seats .

After multiple internet searches, I settled on this place for dinner while in town for work. The menu seemed like a winner. The decor and ambience was great. Loved the vibe. Against my better judgment, I started with their special...chicken and sausage gumbo. It was cold that day...I don't usually eat chicken n sausage gumbo..and NEVER outside of Nola. What the hell was I thinking??? The Gumbo arrived with some micro greens on top. Huh? I can honestly say it had good flavor but tasted nothing like a gumbo. More like just a tasty soup with chicken in it. I also ordered the brisket with bourbon cola sauce. Brisket was tough and the sauce didn't taste of cola or bourbon. Collard greens were magnificent. Hands down some of the best I've ever had. Waitress was very friendly, even when she asked about the Gumbo and I replied "maam this isn't a gumbo". Lol. I don't typically have room for dessert but I decided to get one to go since I didn't eat all of my meal. It was a granola bread pudding and it was delicious! I would honestly return here just for the greens but man can't live on greens alone.

Fantastic place to dine and if your lucky enough you will get Timothy as your server. Excellent food and the customer service was outstanding. Timothy great job and keep up the great work. You are a diamond to this establishment and I pray that they give you what you deserve as being a great asset to this establishment. Ali I. From Cleveland Ohio

Fried Green Tomatoes, Pimento Cheese, Crackers

I have never tried fried green tomatoes, at least not the true southern type. I tried making them myself once....yuck! But today I had then at lunch....Wow! Thank you, Commerce Kitchen! Jeremy was our waiter and he was great! Further, I loved eating in the nearly 200 year old building. PS...the cheese was homemade and was THE best pimento cheese I've ever had!

Street Tacos, two braised beef and one fish.

I dont understand how this restaurant only has 3 stars. The food here is amazing. Service was great. I came here for lunch after hearing my husband talk about it for on of his company events and I was not disappointed. I got the street taco and they were bigger than any street tacos I have had. Will definitely come here again.

Nestled in historic Madison, V&O offers some of the most unique wines and whiskey/bourbon offerings in the region. There's a typical bar area with TVs showing sports, but surrounding the bar are plush, lounge chairs and couches that feel more intimate and inviting for groups. Selection of libations is a great start, but without passionate and knowledgeable 'tenders the experience feels... incomplete. V&O doesn't disappoint here either as everyone is well-versed and opinionated in what they are serving. It's the perfect place to let a few hours bleed away and forget what is going on in the world; maybe have an intelligent sparring session about tastes in the 'brown drink' or adult grape juice... You can spend an entire night here or end up here at the end of the night for a night cap... I don't think you can wrong either way. It's becoming one of my favorite places for wine and whiskey/bourbon... but tread carefully; there are so many things to try you may find it hard to walk out to a ride home. However, you won't regret the time spent within the walls of this gem... I can't promise the same for the next day

This place opened recently and offers a huge selection of wines (from Germany, France, California, New Zealand, and more), several varieties of bourbon, and a craft cocktail menu. They also have charcuterie boards and a shop with wine- and alcohol-themed memorabilia that are really quite cute -- think tumblers, candles, and other great gifts. There are televisions playing softly in the room with the bar but there's also a more intimate room; I think it'd be a nice place to gather with friends. I was told there'd be wine tasting nights starting soon! The bartender, Teylor, was exceptional! She put me right at ease, spoke knowledgeably about each cocktail and wine option, and had a good sense of humor. She worked efficiently among the patrons and was very attentive and polite. Shout-out to Teylor! The vibe was really great too - the other guests were friendly and sociable without being overbearing and I enjoyed my visit while having a drink. I ordered the Monte Sano Sunset, which is a rum drink with fruity elements to include orange and pineapple juice as well as a squeeze of lime. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't upset my stomach as similar drinks often do. It was a pleasure to watch Teylor make my beautiful drink as well as what others ordered; there was even fire involved with one particular beverage! I enjoyed my drink and heard rave things from the other guests about each and every drink that was served. Although this bar is rather far away for me, I look forward to bringing friends from out of town to this special new place.
