This coffee shop is such a cute place with great vibes. I love their coffee selections. They have this sign that has many different mixes all named after celebrities. They're a tad on the pricy side, but I don't mind paying a couple extra dollars if it means I'm supporting a local business. It's a great place to just hang out with friends and drink a cup of coffee. The music they play is always great. Overall a great experience every time I'm here! This really is a great coffee shop! I tried to go to another coffee shop in the area originally but it was close to UNCG so there wasn't a parking spot in sight. Common Grounds is a bit on the outskirts of town but it is right near Linkdley Park and Sticks and Stones Pizza. They had a few parking spots out front and I had no problem securing one. The person who made my drink was friendly and was pretty fast at making the latte. I went with the pumpkin and it was really good. Dare I say better than my beloved chain classic. There was plenty of seating inside and it was quiet, only a few other people enjoying the atmosphere. The music selection was great! It was a lot of acoustic low key music that was perfect background noise when you are trying to work or chat with friends. They have a back room that's closed off that some people were holding a meeting in when I arrived. It is nice that they have that space so if you do want a little more privacy at the shop you can easily get it. Not sure what their reservation policy is, but it looked like they even had a TV and popcorn machine in there. I will be back to try out some of their other latte flavors. It sounds like they def. try to switch it up. They were advertising a Hazelnut Spice latte and a Dirty Chai Pumpkin Pie latte which both sounded really good. read more

The drinks were amazing, the only thing is that there was one barista which took a little while for our drinks to come out, but we were relaxing and talking in the very comfy chairs in the meantime. The snack selection is also lacking on greatness. I suppose this place is more special to those who might enjoy a beer on tap and an open mic night. This is my favorite spot for coffee and the raspberry thumbprint cookies supplied by a local baker are what dreams are made of. My usual order is an iced Angela Basset: dark chocolate and lavender, the lavender compliments the coffee in a beautiful way although I know it is not for everyone. My sister's go to is a Charlie Chaplin: black and white mocha which she asks to get every time we go out for a girls day and my husband & MIL really enjoy their smoothies. They have a very broad selection for syrups so you can get any combination you could probably think of and they have ample choices for milk as well. There is an arcade hidden in the back, a piano in the hall with artwork from local artists (plus the handmade goodies by the register), live music on Thursdays and friendly staff. I don't drop by as often as I used to but the staff still remember me and gives me the best service like offering to remake or alter a drink if I don't like it for whatever reason (which is a huge deal considering it is a small business and not a mega corporation) and making the crazy combinations I come up with without any protest. The atmosphere is laid back and eclectic, I haven't visited another coffee shop like it. The lattes don't taste burnt and bitter like Starbucks espresso either. Don't get me wrong, I'll still enjoy a cup from Starbucks every now and then, but I never like it as much as a drink from Common Grounds. *ATTENTION DUSTY* I have been a long time customer at Common Grounds. I love the coffee and usually the service is good. However, I have noticed the quality in training has gone downhill the last year or so. The environment has become noticeably more messy and grungy, the service is not what it used to be, and the coffee making skills of the newer hires is less than adequate for the prices. With all that being said, I had a particularly disturbing experience last week with one of your newer baristas. It was a female with short dark hair and a nose piercing (not Casey). There was one customer ahead of me, so she began making our drinks at the same time (no problem there). I noticed that after she poured the customers drink before me (it was a Robert Downey Jr. frozen) that she spilled a little on her hand and quickly LICKED IT OFF her fingers. This bothered me for obvious reasons, but what bothered me more was that she did it again when she added whipped cream to the customers drink. She LICKED her fingers twice, and then proceeded to place a lid on the cup with the licked fingers. Well, I waiting to see if she would wash her hands at least before adding the milk to my iced latte. Nope. I didn't see her wash her hands once. I hope this review helps your employees understand the importance of good hygiene in the workplace. I will not be purchasing drinks from that barista again anytime soon. read more

I stopped by here after picking up a friend from the Greensboro airport and I have to say I was super surprised to have such a great cup of coffee while making my way back home. The man at the counter suggested I try the Amy Adams from their extensive mixed drink menu. The espresso was pulled perfectly and paired well with the other added flavors. It had the right balance of sweetness and didn't overpower the coffee flavor which is something I feel a lot of coffee shops do. The atmosphere was super chill and laid back and the decor was definitely unique and eclectic. I felt like they had a little bit of everything inside. But yes! The drink selection is eclectic - smoothies, wine, and coffee; pastries are on display and looked very enticing. This is a cute little shop not far from the main downtown area. It's much bigger on the inside than I expected. There is a large sectional and several cafe tables in the main area, room with a large flat screen tv and video game console, a piano, and an art gallery/pool table room. I ordered an Angela Bassett--essentially a lavender mocha. Usually things like this end up being too sweet at most shops, but it was really well balanced. Next time, I'll try something else as well as a pastry. I'll definitely be back. read more

My Americano was really good and the redone patio is really nice but the wifi SUCKED. It took me 10 minutes to connect, after having to make an account, it wouldn't work on my iPhone and then you only had 30 minutes of free wifi... The whole reason I was there was to have a nice place to get some work done and I couldn't do that. The staff was friendly but it was a slower day and they all came outside to the patio and were smoking RIGHT NEXT TO ME the whole time I was there. Finally a real coffee shop in the caffeinated wasteland that is the UNCG area! To be fair, I've known about and patronized them for about a year now, but I'm only just getting around to reviewing. First thing's first: brewed coffee. They do it right. Jesus-Lord-in-Heaven, why is it so hard to get a decent cup of regular, brewed coffee on UNCG's campus? Coffeeology is gross, TSCH is mediocre on a good day, Au Bon Pain lets theirs cook on the hot plate ALL. DAY. LONG. and Starbucks is where happy caffeinated thoughts go to die (but you already knew that). Being as how it was utterly impossible to find good coffee on campus, I was forced to expand my horizons and found this kooky cool place in Lindley Park. Unfortunately, it's too far to make between classes, but a short bike trip or car ride will have you there directly. They've got a cool, celebrity-themed, espresso drink menu that is just fine. I like espresso drinks as much as the next guy, but they're too expensive to indulge in regularly. The baristas at Common Grounds do, however, pull decent shots, and I've never been disappointed when I've had a little extra jingle burning a hole in my pocket. Back to the brew, though. I have no idea where they source their beans, and, quite frankly, I don't care. They aren't burned to charcoal like Starbucks or a bitter, robusta blend, so it's good enough for re-fueling. However, the single, largest benefit of buying your drip brew at this place (that every other coffee peddler in the general vicinity, for some reason, refuses to do) is that they store it in small, thermal carafes. NO HOT PLATES HERE!!! *woot* Seriously, though, the next time I pay $2.00+ for a regular, drip-brewed coffee, take the first sip and realized that it's been burning on a hot plate for the past 3-4 hours, I might just go postal. If your company is in the business of exchanging, hot, caffeinated bean juice in exchange for (all too often too much) currency, and you cannot even deliver an acceptable cup of said bean juice in its most basic form, then you don't deserve to be in business. I'm not saying you should kill yourself, but you should be made to sit a corner all by yourself and think about what kind of terrible person you are and how you are going to make it up to me personally. If I subsequently find your accommodations to my person lacking, then you should kill yourself. :-P Luckily, Common Grounds suffers from no such woes! I'm not always a fan of the brew of the day, but at least the crap is drinkable. I love coffee, but I'm not going to pay exorbitant fees for the stuff just for it to eat away my esophageal lining like so much battery acid. Acid reflux drugs are expensive, yo. Oh yeah, free wifi, cool local art, cold air conditioning, blah, blah, blah. It's a nice enough place to hang out a study, but if I've got that kind of time, I'd rather just drive the rest of the mile back to my house where they don't frown upon it when I don't wear pants. :-) read more

The coffee here - especially their celebrity themed flavors (if you like peanut butter and hazeulnut, try the Bradd Pitt!) is delicious. So are their pastries. It's definitely not as cheap as Dunk-N-Donuts coffee, but your money's worth. If I lived closer I would go every day. This is hands down the best coffee shop in town and I have been to them all. Great relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff who actually talk to you and ask about your day, and their drinks are delicious! I typically order a hot flavored latte and I've never been disappointed. Their pumpkin spice latte is amazing. I have a dairy allergy and they have a good selection of non-dairy milks. They also have great vegan/gluten free treats. Super convenient for anyone in the Lindley Park area and worth the trip for an evening out on the weekend if you live elsewhere in town. I give two stars only because of one of the employees who works there. He has a beard and wears winter caps. He is very loud and bangs stuff. He talks out loud about his personal life and what he's buying or wearing! He was even exclaiming about how his gf bought $70 worth of lingerie from Victoria's Secret. This is not cool and it's not good coffeeshop or business etiquette. I was also told that they only had a decaf americano for people who like decaf coffee. After making it, I tasted it and it was like drinking water with a few drips of coffee. I asked him to make it a little stronger and so he spent another 10 seconds adding more espresso to the cup. It was still gross. Very sad that we won't be coming anymore. It's like this every time we come. The actual location and shop is pretty cool, especially for a small city like Greensboro. read more
