    Oat Milk Latte and Pastry

Neat little coffee joint located amidst an office building on the 3rd floor. Overall product was good but this place was severely understaffed. Seems this place primarily focuses on the building tenants as it should... it's Good in a pinch but there are plenty of other options near by.

I was not expecting the coffee to be as good as it is in the brightly lit lobby of an office building. There was plenty of seating, the staff was friendly, and they took care with the espresso I ordered. The first shot they pulled wasn't up to their standards, so they poured it out before giving it to me and made a new one. The drip coffee was great too.

There is an artist at Common Grounds. The capacinos are perfect with a little twist of art in your mug.

Located on the 3rd floor lobby level of 5 Houston Center, this coffee shop supplied caffeine for many professionals working in the surrounding buildings through the dark age when Starbucks decided to close its original Houston Shops location during Covid. Price point is similar to other independent coffee shops in Houston, a lavender almond milk latte would cost you about $7. Plenty of seating in the building lobby and service is pretty good, however you will most likely be stuck in line behind all the corporate caffeine junkies.

The greatest discovery of all time. Especially when I'm running late In the mornings and can't make coffee at home. Perched in the Houston Five Center building on McKinney, it's in the Fulbright tower and a perfect place to mingle or grab a cup of joe on the run. Staff are super friendly and you're looking at paying for trendy craft coffee...so don't be alarmed when you pay for your Sea Salt Coconut latte with that milk sub. :) Love the vibes and it really brings a more modern feel to the overall vibe of the building.

OMG... I literally had the best bowl of oatmeal I have ever had in my life! It was so flavorful. And the blend of fruit, nuts, and brown sugar was delish! I accompanied it with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and it tasted just like the milk after you eat all of the cereal with a bold punch. The baristas were pleasant and appeared to enjoy themselves. So glad I found this place. *it's on the second floor by the way. If you look up you can see the area it is in from the lobby. Take the elevator up to the second floor and head to the right once you exit the elevator bank.

A great spot to grab a morning coffee at the Houston Center area in Downtown. Staff is very friendly and quick with their service. Since it's located in an office building, they usually close after lunch hours. It's located in the 5 Houston Center building. You can access the building through the sky bridge so it's pretty convenience. You can also find parking in the connected garage and go to the third floor which is the lobby of the building. This coffee shop will be down on your right. I'm glad I work in the building so it's just a quick trip down for coffee or breakfast. My two favorite items are the hot matcha latte and the avocado toast. Avocado toast was delish and portion was pretty big.

Bright, warm, modern coffee shop on the third floor of an office building. It's a lovely space and you can sit anywhere in the large Lobby to enjoy your coffee and do coworking if needed. Plenty of electrical outlets for your PC, and relatively quiet. The coffee is a little bit pricey but it is basically downtown and so it is what I would expect. The service is excellent.

For the coffee aficionados, this would be a good place. Great gear- top of the line espresso machine, pour over kits, six Chemex glassware ready to go for the larger parties, excellent single origin and blends, artisan pastries, etc- w the baristas to match. Knowledgeably executing all the right things- excellent shot pulls, milk foam consistency, latte Art- you can't really go wrong. Highly recommend. Please keep in mind the sense of coffee snobbery from which I write. If you're already thinking Frappuccino and some sort of god forsaken concoction w whip cream, please keep 'er movin' and go directly to Starbucks for that diabetes and burnt rubber taste. Coffee should not a torture memetic be.

The very cute barista appears to no longer work here. Minus one star. They still have coffee.

This place is wonderful. Really relaxed environment, kind staff, and a very good quality latte. We will be back!

Ask the Community - Common Grounds Uncommon Coffee

Is it connected to everything else?

We are located on the 3rd floor (Lobby Level) of Five Houston Center. Its connected via skybridge to some surrounding buildings.

Where is the best place to park?

We are located in a high rise building - Five Houston Center. So the most cost effective place to park would be on the streets. There is plenty of hourly parking available in this area.

The nuttiness of the sesame goes SOOO well with the espresso taste and it's a good creaminess too. I also like the texture of the bits of sesame seeds in the drink. The aesthetic of the cafe is modern with street-style flairs, it's a really cool space. I also love that there are Filipino flavors on the menu like ube and pandan. Most workers are super nice and say your name like they know you. They're also super attentive to ensure that everything with your order is perfect. Jonah was very welcoming and helpful, making sure we got a menu while in line! The weekdays seem to be better for wait-time, with little to no wait. The weekends however are packed and usually have lines. If you're not a line person, I would definitely come on a weekday. TwoTone is probably the best specialty coffee you can get in Houston, especially in terms of Asian flavors and creaminess. If it was closer to inner Houston, I would probably come here everyday.

The line moved fairly well since it was after 12pm. I decided to try out two drinks since I live a good distance away and I wasn't sure I'd be back anytime soon. When I ordered the employee let me know it'd be 15-20 mins. I got a chocolate croissant it was underwhelming. Not moist, chocolate to croissant ratio seemed off. I came for the speculoos and selected the jet black as well based on the reviews. I was tempted to try the jade but one of the baristas who loves both let me know it's very sweet compare to the others I was interested in. Both drinks were good. I do think the sesame is a more complex flavor especially if you like to actually taste your coffee. I would try the jade and ube drink I think it's called purple stuff; whenever I'm back on that side.

It needed more ice for me, so I asked for extra, which helped. Also could use a touch of sweetener. I waited about 8-10 minutes for my order, and by the time my food came out, a table had opened up, so timing worked out perfectly. The space has a really nice vibe overall and feels like a good place to sit for a bit, catch up with someone, or get some work done. Overall, solid experience.
