If I could give this company a negative or zero-star rating, I would. My experience with CIMS has shown a troubling tendency to manipulate homeowners for profit while avoiding responsibility. The constant turnover of property managers--each one unprofessional and difficult to reach--has only added to the frustration. (Jeff Peterson is the current manager) It seems that the contractor, Gerald Stater, and the HOA board are working together with CIMS, consistently undermining homeowners' rights and well-being. This review is aimed at upper management, which has been completely lacking in integrity. In 2023, we faced a major financial dispute with the board over their irresponsible actions. By 2024, urgent repair needs have arisen in my unit and those nearby, putting our health at risk. Licensed contractors and inspectors have determined that the sources of the leaks are located within the building's shared walls, and therefore not the homeowners' responsibility. We're dealing with issues like kitchen drain leaks affecting three stories, mold growing in the hallways from high humidity, dead rats and snail shells in the ventilation system, and mold on shared walls due to water leaks from the exterior. This company deserves to be held accountable for the damage they have caused to homeowners, including health risks, financial losses, distress, and the countless hours spent dealing with disputes. Their dishonesty and lack of transparency have only added to the harm. read more

This was the best experience and service response I've ever gotten from a property management company managing where I live in Bancroft Village. I requested to use the clubhouse for our group meeting. Eventhough it was a holiday, Belle kept in constant touch with me and coordinated with Julie, who also was very responsive and arranged for the use of the room. I really appreciate this level of communication because I had a group of people and we depended upon having a place to meet. Everything went off better than I expected. If I could give zero stars I would. I'm truly not sure what value this office provides considering it is rarely open or responsive to requests from members of the HOAs it represents. On multiple occasions I have attempted to visit this office in order to pick up keys or most recently to turn in an application and check for a facility rental and the office has been randomly closed, or my personal favorite, the staff simply decided to not show up on time and didn't arrive until 45 minutes after the office opened, and then proceeded to be rude to me as if I was the person inconveniencing them. The communication from this office is consistently delayed or nonexistent - even the emergency line has gone unanswered. The online portal is not much better as there is essentially no functionality. Forms available online cannot be submitted online and instead have to be printed and then either hand delivered or mailed to take any meaningful action. As someone who has lived in a facility managed by this group for over two years I would HIGHLY recommend choosing an alternate management company for any HOA needs. read more

I am shocked that this company is still in business. The person assigned to our complex is rude, dismissive, and refers to me as a guest in our meetings. I am a homeowner that is invited to the meetings, not a guest. In our most recent meeting, she stated that the fire department had identified some corrections that we needed to make, but that she wasn't sure we had to follow their directives. A property manager who is completely unfamiliar with fire code, and thinks their directives are suggestions. I originally met this person when I reported a dangerous condition to her. Her response was that if we experienced damage because of the known condition, we would need to engage our insurance companies for restitution. This company is the WORST. Besides being very rude and almost impossible to het a hold of; They repeatedly over charged owners by charging them multiple times for the same thing. When they were contacted about it, they were extremely rude, hostile, and unhelpful. I personally called them three times to figure out why I was being charged multiple times and they hung up on me every single time (when I asked about the additional charge on my account). It was unbelievable. I couldn't believe that they would hang up on a client... THREE times, so I know it was not an accident! One of the times, I asked for the supervisor and again, I was hung up on. Very unprofessional. After numerous complaints by the owners, our HOA got involved. Our HOA said that once all these extra charges were brought to Common interest's attention, Common Interest admitted to "accounting mistake". Well, that be believable except for the fact that it happened again. The geniuses would only deduct a few hundred dollars in addition to the monthly dues; so if one is not really paying attention, it would go unnoticed, which was the case. Once this issue was raised at our HOA meeting, multiple owners went back and checked their accounts and realized they had been over charged for months and didn't realize it. I can't believe they are still in business and not in jail. They were fired by our HOA. read more

Sadly, I feel the need to echo a lot of the feedback provided here. I'm also a resident of Marina Point in Foster City and Stephanie's feedback is 100% accurate. I was also part of the special assessment, which essentially felt like negligence that we then had to pay for. The notification system for violations is horrible. They recently posted about needing to move our vehicles every few days or else get towed (pretty common rule for condo/townhouse complexes), but I've never seen it policed so hard and with such little regard for the actual residents. My wife and I recently had our first child, which has made moving our vehicle a bit more difficult over the past few weeks. To my surprise, we came out to use the vehicle and it had been towed after the bare minimum timeline (after being seen sitting for 72 hrs, you receive a citation, then towed 72 hrs after that). I reached out to see if there was any flexibility in the policy and if the towing expenses could be covered given the extenuating circumstances -- we just had a child and it's not easy to just hop out and move our car every 3 days. I was met with the inhumane response that "the committee is not providing any exceptions to the parking rule" and then was gaslit by being told we hadn't moved our car for 4 months, which is completely inaccurate. My wife was still working 4 months before the birth and commuting to San Francisco... I was hoping for some compassion in this situation OR if you're going to police parking rules this aggressively, then you need to setup the infrastructure with a much more effective notification system, e.g., car registration with phone/email/text functionality. Other associations I've seen will ALWAYS call their residents before actually towing the vehicle. Between this and the special assessment, it makes me wonder where all of our HOA fees are even going. read more

Common Interest violated the Davis-Sterling Act tonight. They scheduled a board meeting for 6:00 PM, and emailed the agenda with a zoom link. The zoom link was "invalid." I tried it multiple times, and so did another homeowner. I immediately emailed Sherrell Reynaga and Anne Sutcliffe, property managers, and they did not respond at all. I called the after-hours Common Interest phone number and told them I needed the correct zoom link, and I received no response. I've been trying to get my roof fixed for 3 months. I've had to send a dozen emails to get Sherrell to respond, and she only did after I started calling daily. She said we will discuss my roof at the meeting tonight. Of course, the meeting was either canceled, or I was excluded from it--both of which are Davis Sterling violations--and unable to find out when my roof will be fixed along with all of the dangerous neglectful situations going on at our building, such as a huge tree limb which is going to snap off and kill someone, and our garbage shed which has no way to escape if you get locked inside. (Someone got locked inside of it this week.) Do not go near this god-awful management association with a 10-foot pole! Company lacks the skills to properly manage. Probably the most expensive company around considering the small amount of work they actually do. This companies lack of management skills has cost our community almost a million dollars, due to their lack of concern for a defunct contractor who never completed their work leaving residents to pay. read more

I wish there was a way to reverse the transaction of my home solely based on the HOA. They are a pure waste of money. The staff is beyond incompetent, they never return calls and are truly just there for their own financial gain. What they charge is nowhere near what they are worth. The community would be better off taking care of their own landscaping as that is the only thing they do (& even then, it's terrible). read more

Sloppy management service. I'm an owner, for over 23 years, at Marina Point in Foster City. I've noticed a gradual decline in the quality of the management this company provides. While I found CI a competent management company initially, it's no longer the case. A few examples include: 1: No notifications on moving the portal from estmt.net to portal.commoninterest.com . I did a judicious review of email, and the change definitely wasn't communicated. 2: The recent 'special assessment'. Without exception, 'special assessment' means: 'we didn't budget properly for maintenance of the property.' 3: No notifications of any potential 'violations.' You find out retroactively, though fines. My contact info (email, phone, text) have been unchanged that entire time, and even snail-mail is unchanged since 2011. This company has gradually turned into the stereotypical HOA 'meme', which is not a complement. read more

Absolute garbage service. They don't even answer their phones. The only way I could get ahold of them was via email, and in their correspondence they are completely rude and disrespectful. When there's something wrong with the building, they take months to resolve it. But if there's a fee that needs to be paid, they will make sure to get it from you right away read more

This is the worst management company our condo complex has used. NOBODY ever returns phone calls. Our elevator has been broken for a week, and we get emails saying someone is coming to repair it, but nothing happens. I have a spinal injury and have to go up and down 4 flights of stairs, almost falling. I would never recommend this Management company. read more
