This is perhaps the only beautiful wonderful spectacular restaurant in Claremont NH. We have eaten here several times and each visit is better than the last. The food is so incredible and tasty. The prices are good as well. Besides the food I LOVE HOW IT LOOKS....so romantic overlooking the Sugar River...there is a bridge that you can walk across and inside during the summer you walk over a glassed open look at the river if my memory is correct. The old school feel of this building is incredible as well. It's worthy of taking all the pictures you can handle. All in all this place HAS IT ALL. read more

We've been here and the other Common Man Restaurants dozens times and what we found is consistency. We alway had a good meal. You could count on it! Well last night was the exception. The quality and quantity of food on the plate was severely lacking. Ordered the steak tips without onions and when it arrived I was very disappointed and there was only 3 pieces of steak. It was topped with onions and peppers, the carrots were raw but warm, the baked potato was kinda smashed and seemed to be missing some of the contents. I guess I was expecting more for $25. I think it will be awhile before we come back to this location. On a positive note: When we arrived it wasn't that busy, but they had a large party of very loud people standing around in the back of the dining room and we were seated next to them, we asked the host when he sat us as to whether or not we could get a different table and he said he couldn't but he would check. Within 5 minutes the manager came over and moved us across the room. Back to the negative: our waiter could learn some people and listening skills he was fair but not the best we've had there. read more

The restaurant is super neat when you first walk in - or "walk down" since you'd need to walk the stairs downstairs to get to the actual restaurant. You'll walk past these holes in the floor with hard plastic covering the waterfall that they're above. Very cool! Atmosphere is nice, quiet, and calming. Everything is made of wood and lighting was yellow and dimmed. Feels like you're dining in a cabin. There's all you can eat crackers and cheese that are self serve in the front; you're also greeted with bread and butter after you order. Now the actual food. I'm having a difficult time giving this place an exact rating because the food was good but not great for all persons. My chicken pot pie I ordered was fine - it didn't have the regular puff pastry crust that's attached to the pan, instead it's just one flat puff pastry. Nothing too big to worry about. The chicken of the pie was a little weird and has most of it was just fat and venison - the main qualm to my meal. I like chunky meaty chicken. The filet mignon that my fiancé ordered wasn't grilled the way he wanted it, asked for medium rare but he got medium well. A third person in my party ordered cod and vegetables with no bread crumbs. She received salmon and vegetables and no bread crumbs - not to make too much of a commotion, she kept it and ate it anyways. The salmon ended up not being cooked through - totally something we're not used to eating! The woman in charge of the night was very friendly and informative, she told us the salmon is cooked medium rare at the restaurant. The just Nevertheless, we decided to inform her that we actually received the wrong order all together and would prefer the cod instead. The meals were swapped in a heart beat and the problem was MOSTLY resolved - this time, the cod came but with bread crumbs. :) We didn't want to start any more trouble so the meal was eaten and paid for. We understand how sometimes our waitresses can have a long day and can be working multiple tables at once - however, there was only 4 families on the floor that evening. Nevertheless, we still had a good night at the restaurant and it didn't spoil our stay in Vermont. read more

Saturday night went in for dinner at 4:30. It was so busy when we finally were able to get our waiter to our table we had a great meal. Pork chop marsala special was done perfectly. Mac and cheese excellent, prime rib was also very good. Chicken pot pie was just ok. The atmosphere is great because it's a beautiful restaurant. Didn't get out until 6:30 so don't be in a hurry to enjoy your delicious meal. read more

Been coming every June for 4 years . We were just basically turned away !!!‍ bar chairs were full Except for two open at the window . I said can we sit there , because normally I just walk in the bar area no problem but this hostess felt she had to stop us . I said we will just sit at the two empty chairs at the window and have a drink or two while waiting for two seats at the bar to open to eat . She said "Sorry the bar is too backed up to serve you" What ? She said you can have a table but there is a 45 minute wait . I'm ok with the 45 minutes if we wanted a table because restaurants get busy and I'm sure they suffering from staff shortage like everyone else, but with two empty chairs at the window at the bar !!! Just to say no you can't have drinks while you wait is unbelievably horrible. My recommendation is replaced at Hostess right away! she totally sucks! read more

Had dinner last night at The Common Man. Our experience was great even from the start. I couldn't seem to get the elevator door to open (for my mother), when I went downstairs and talked with the hostess about it she stopped doing everything and came to help me. It was my fault of course because I wasn't pulling hard enough on it. LOL We didn't have a reservation and needed a table not a booth. Which didn't seem to be a problem at all. We had a very nice server I believe his name was Striker. He was wonderful, we asked if they still did rolls which he brought out to us and they were amazing! We couldn't decide on the apple chicken or the special which was garlic and parmesan crusted steak. I asked Striker on his opinion and he said that he has had the steak recently, so we went with that. I am so very glad that we chose the steak it was great. Cooked perfectly and tasted so good. The Manager Patrick came over and introduced himself to us and asked how our dinner was, we chatted about the menu and he thanked us for joining them for dinner. The politeness, to the food, to the atmosphere was outstanding! Way to go Patrick. You, the staff, and the service was 100% on point tonight. Can't wait to go back. read more

One of the most beautiful settings, extensive menu, DELICIOUS food, and very accommodating and friendly staff! Our group of 4 ordered different entrees, and all were far above expectations. The drinks were perfectly mixed! We ordered Chocolate Ding Dang Dong for dessert just because we loved the name, and ended up loving it because it was so scrumptious. Our waitress, Olivia, was so sweet and efficient. We consider ourselves lucky to have serendipitously happened upon this establishment. This is a pretty neat place! Situated right on the water with the river flowing right under the restaurant, they did an excellent job with the decor and patio with a view of the river. The inside has nice comfy couches and fireplace with a large dinning area. Service is great and very attentive. Food is okay. The view and service deserve a higher rating but unfortunately the food dragged it down. Nonetheless, I will be back when I'm in town and be content eating/dinning there again. read more

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary this week by having dinner at the Common Man restaurant in Claremon, NH. We enjoy the restaurant for its romantic atmosphere and view as well as the delicious food! Our anniversary dinner was excellent. The Mexican Street Corn dip appetizer was awesome, followed by steak dinners that were cooked to perfection, juicy and tender followed by a most delicious salted caramel brownie sundae. I don't want to seem like I am overstating this, but I just had one of the best restaurant meals ever at the Common Man in Claremont. I had a Caesar Salad with anchovies (my preference) with steak tips added, and a Manhattan. The salad was everything I want in a Caesar salad - not too much dressing, shaved parmesan, and croutons. The steak tips came on the side with peppers and onions. They were tender and cooked perfectly. The Manhattan with Luxardo cherry and juice was a great compliment, as were the crackers and dip, and savory and sweet breads, while we waited. Crystal was a superb server, who handled every request. My companion had the sesame tuna salad, and that also looked amazing, and the taste I had was delicious. I highly recommend you head on over to The Common Man. read more

have been here several times for dinner and was very happy with the food and service-- sadly, Sat nite was totally the opposite-- waited 1.5 hours total for any app or foot to appear, - there were six of us: three chicken dishes severely overcooked,, there "house favorite chicken walnut dish was overly sweet and the steak tips weren't tips at all but chucks of steak, and all the dishes were at best, just warm, even the app soups were warm-- no bread, had to ask for water, even the "cheese and cracker" self serve station was almost empty. Obvious not enough wait staff-- but the staff who were there were pleasant, and working very hard. Arrived at 8:37pm (closes at 9). I'm not sure why they seated us, because everyone that interacted with us went out of their way to remind us how late we were. The pervasive attitude extended from the hostess station to the back. The message was clear - we will serve you the worst possible version of your dishes as punishment because we resent having to work a few minutes longer. The atmosphere at this place was amazing! There was excitement in the air when you walked in and the live music had the place bumping. It was the type of place cool for a younger crowd to hang out, but an older crowd fit in just as well. The food was great. We were served an assortment of breads that were all delicious. There was almost a complimentary cheese and cracker station, however, it was never mentioned to us so we didn't notice it until halfway through the meal. Our table got mussels and the BLT flatbread appetizers and both were delightful. We got the Prime Rib, Crabcake Haddock and Pulled Pork Mac n Cheese for main courses. The portions were fairly sized, not too much yet not too little, just right. The drinks were both strong and delicious. We sprung for dessert.. and although we regretted it after (simply for being too full) it was to die for. There were two things stopping me from giving a 5* review. The parking was difficult and almost hard to find - however, it was dark and rainy. The second being the service. Again, I will give them the benefit of the doubt here. There could have been a chance maybe our waiter was new. The manager did come over to check how everything was tasting. Then later in the meal someone came by frequently to check if we had enough water - but early in the dinner we were all left dry for awhile. I would not let either of these small unconvinced stop you from coming here, it was definitely a great meal and fun atmosphere! If in the area again I would consider staying at this Inn simply from what I saw in this restaurant -cute game area -family friendly -awesome live music -fun crowd of all ages read more

My husband and I have eaten here maybe 4 times over the past few years, we always hope the "next time" will be better. Neither of us have ever had a dish here that we really loved. One time we just went for drinks at the bar and they weren't even very good, I actually returned mine. On our most recent trip we only went because we had a gift card. I got the baked scallops which were advertised as being baked in a buttery Ritz cracker topping. What I got was definitely not buttery, I actually think it was panko which had little to no flavor and some dry panko sprinkled over the top with some scallions thrown in, which I didn't like. The dish had no flavor and eating dry panko isn't fun. My husband ordered the Asian rice bowl and luckily he added the chicken option because other than the chicken it was a small amount of rice. We were both disappointed, we could have made better food at home. I don't think we'll ever go back now, there's nothing to look forward to. read more

We attended a busy political rally in a meeting room over the restaurant recently, and when it ended we walked downstairs to join dozens of others crowding in for a late dinner. We first want to note that anticipating a crowd, the restaurant had brought in extra servers and kitchen staff. It could have been chaos, but it wasn't. The well-trained and friendly wait staff handled the crowds comfortably and quite quickly, and we were very happy with our experience. Obviously management and staff are on the same page here; high marks to everyone. The food was good but there were some issues. The chicken pan pie with a good flaky crust had too-large chunks of uncut chicken and vegetables that were a bit on the bland side. The burger, however, was excellent: cooked just as ordered and served with a large piece of melted cheddar on top along with romaine (no iceberg!!) lettuce. Like the big, crunchy fries, too. A very cheesy onion soup and some good bar drinks rounded out our meal. Overall, it was a successful experience, and we'll return. That wait staff really impressed us. read more

We went to The Common Man on a whim for my fella's birthday. It's a bit of a drive for us, but it was well worth it. This place was great for so many reasons. The space was just lovely! We ate inside, which is an industrial space with exposed brick, big wooden beams, and that comforting sort of antique-y smell. It felt upscale but not snooty. The outside space by the waterfall also looked great. We arrived around 7, and we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and helpful. The complimentary breads they gave us were great. We shared the very good Common Wedge salad. My fella had the corn and bacon ravioli, which he raved about. I had the Nantucket pie, which was also great and accompanied by fantastic mashed potatoes. The food is very reasonably priced. We left with to-go boxes with fun messages ("midnight snack") written on them. Can't wait to eat those leftovers! What a wonderful experience I had at the Common Man in Claremont, NH. The atmosphere has a lovely rustic vibe to it. The staff are very friendly. Our sever was Jason, and his customer service is spot on. The menu has a variety of options to choose from. I enjoyed the appetizer I chose which was Bibb lettuce wraps with tuna, avacado, sesame seeds, Tortilla strips. The adult beverages are mixed to perfection!
