We stumbled upon Community Grounds while on the Columbus Coffee Trail! We found it to be a very authentic, community driven coffee house, where the focus isnt just upon coffee but also on community. They have books for sale featuring Columbus Authors, jewelry, etc. staff is smiling and bubbly and the vibe reminds me of a simple homey type of shop... not bougie, at all, which is refreshing. There is also a subtle Pueto Rican influence here. You can Puerto Rican coffee beans, rice as well as order a fresh empanada. This adds to the uniqueness of the shop. The coffee we had today was brewed with beans called Black Swamp and were roasted in The Toledo area. It was one of the smoothest cups of coffee I have had in a long time. Arrived shortly after the cafe opened. The shop worker greeted me and was friendly. I saw a Facebook post for the Maple Mocha with Pistachio Milk, so I immediately knew my order. The drink was ready in a couple minutes. It was still hot when I got home. I was very pleased with the flavor. The mocha flavor was not overpowering, but provided a subtle sweetness. Overall this is a nice place to get your coffee fix. There is plenty of seating. Street parking appears to be the only option. I had no trouble finding a spot. read more

Family owned vegetarian restaurant with 90% vegan options. Cute. Has a large indoor space and a little patio. Plenty of food offerings including pizza and calzones and a couple of Puerto Rican dishes. As well as some merch for sale. To go ready sandwiches and sodas. Super delicious oat milk. Got an oat milk latte with caramel. Was incredible. I highly recommend this place. Lots of cool little items and zines and they sell coffee and cute little pastries. They also sell local sodas and empanadillas, as well as some food selections, smoothies, and house made chai. The vibe is friendly and relaxed, a great place to work. Absolutely loved the coffee here, the welcoming ambiance, and the fun seasonal menu. I of course had to try the latte flight to get a sense of their house-made syrups, and I can truthfully say the syrups I tried were some of the most unique and tasty I've ever had. Pawpaw ice cream drew me to Community Grounds, and it's such a great, cute, eclectic space! First of all, and most importantly, Community Grounds serves oat milk-based (vegan!) soft serve every weekend, and their flavors change every week. I had yet to taste what the pawpaw fruit tasted like, so I headed on down to sample this seemingly elusive fruit. The gal working the counter was polite and had a good sense of humor. She gladly described their pawpaw treat and game me a sample. Holy cow, the pawpaw soft serve tasted just like a creamy, sweet chai tea, and I LOVE CHAI TEA! I might have walked out with four giant capfuls of this pawpaw soft serve, and still have some hanging in my freezer. I can neither confirm or deny. I just want to add that walking inside Community Grounds, I completely felt at ease, like I was walking into a neighborhood barber shop. Grab a coffee (locally sourced coffee grounds!) and a pastry from local providers such as Oh Oh Tupelo or a greeting card from talented illustrators around Columbus, take a seat, listen to a talk about local youth activities, make a kid-centered craft with the little ones, or just kick back and breath in the calmness. Such a cute place with friendly staff and goods from local artisans for sale. The coffee is good and relatively cheap, and they offer vegan treats which can sometimes be hard to find at a coffee shop. They also had some games in the back. My partner and I enjoyed coffee and treats here before going over to the nearby Scioto Audubon metro park. Their vegan calzone tasted like Papa John's breadsticks, IYKYK. I really hate to be the one to give the bad review and potentially drag the score down, but both coffees and the doughnut were not enjoyable. We used DoorDash, but nothing was wrong with the delivery or temperature of the food. To help set the stage, we drink a lot of coffee from local places and have tried pastries from all over the city. The "house" coffee almost seemed flavored or was so organic, that it literally tasted like it (if that makes sense). It sounds like a lot of the quality with their drinks are in specialty drinks, but their base coffee is something to avoid...unfortunately. The Tupelo (brown-butter hazelnut) doughnut was okay...its texture was very much like a homemade donut and had a nice glaze, but their were certain ingredients they used that didn't mesh well with the overall flavor. It is actually really hard to describe the flavors and how they didn't mesh, but hopefully this still helps. My advice would be to try a different pastry and stick to a specialty drink (so it sounds) if you visit this business. read more

The coffee is alright and average, and there are very few snack/ food options. There is a cute shop in part of the location. There is plenty of seating. It also seems that they do nice things for the community such as free food. However I have to agree with other review that it seems like regulars are the only ones welcome here. The staff made me feel like a complete bother for coming in and were much friendlier to a couple regulars who came in after me. I also heard the staff complaining every time a mobile order came through. Literally would never come back here under any circumstance. read more

You know it is good when the soft serve is gone before you have a chance to snap a picture!! Wow oh wow!! I really love this place! I heard many people on the Vegan Columbus Facebook page talking about the soft serve. So, my family and I went to try it out. We've been vegan for over six years, and this is THE BEST vegan soft serve we have ever had in all of our lives. It is incredibly difficult to make vegan soft serve that is creamy, has great flavor, and well doesn't taste like flavored ice. This company managed to truly impress all of us, and I look forward to them having more possible flavors in the future! The location is not the greatest, and it is rather far from where I live in Delaware. However, it was well worth the drive. Thank you so much for the vegan options! Just wanted to give a quick update since I've been going much more often. I LOVE the new earlier hours. They may not but I sure do. I stopped going to Starbucks to save money and bought a new, fancy coffee maker. Community Grounds has ruined that plan. It didn't used to be convenient since I go to work pretty early. Now it is. There's a nice sense of community here and it's always nicer to go into a wonderful, local place. Especially in your own neighborhood. Tried this place again after having horrible experiences in the past. They still haven't changed. Horribly slow service. They seem completely ambivalent to their surroundings. This place is phenomenal. Their coffee is great. They make a lot (if not all their syrups) themselves. They are really tasty and overly sweet tasting. The owners are really friendly and genuinely care about the area and their neighbors. They have wide variety of programming and events going on. The only drawback is they don't have a drive-through, but they do have an app that you can order/pay ahead of time and it'll be ready when you run in. I've heard nothing but good things about this establishment since it opened. My spouse and I tried their coffee, a bagel with vegan cream cheese apiece and some sweets from Oakalona Bakery they had available. Everything was really good! The coffee was so smooth and the syrup followed the coffee taste immediately at the end without it being overwhelming in the least. All delicious! Please visit the Black-owned coffee shop, Upper Cup, just up the street from this place for good good hospitality and good vibes. So excited to see the doors officially open at Community Grounds. The owners have played such a huge part in the community, setting up at several events every year until they opened their doors. Community Grounds, a great place to hang out and enjoy a great cup of coffee and a snack to catch up with friends, meet new ones, or work on some work; as well as have meetings there! The Chai Tea is my absolute favorite thing there and it is homemade! The Strawberry Banana Smoothie is good too! The vibes there are great, and the people that work there are so nice, friendly and positive! It makes you feel happy when you're there! Come check it out when you have time!! For full disclosure, I had met the owners before they opened their new coffee shop, but I feel I can still give an honest review. First, they revamped an old space in what most consider a "rough area", and made it beautiful. Yay!! Second, it's very cute and clean inside, as well. Family friendly, nice regular customers, etc... Has a good vibe. We enjoyed our drinks (but don't drink coffee) and the live music they had. Just visiting in Columbus and stopped in to do some work. It's clean and with friendly staff and very charming. I tried their fall salted caramel latte and it was amazing. Adorable little pumpkins and gourds everywhere. They've got board games and kids toys, and local art on the walls. Very cozy and comfortable space.
