This was my third time to CoMo Smoke and Fire Bbq restaurant....and it was definitely the charm! My first two visits were fine but what I ordered prior to today, was not memorable, nothing to rave about. This time I'm raving...! I ordered the smoked and breaded butterflied pork tenderloin sandwich. It was quite large, overhanging the fresh bun, served with pickles and red onion. Ordinarily it comes with mayo but I requested something with "zip" like a horseradish type aioli - but they didn't have any horseradish sauce. Wah wah :( - The waitress suggested a zesty sauce ordinarily served with the fried pickles, I think. It was good! It was much more interesting than mayo, for sure. As a side I ordered the vinegar based slaw...which went well with the smoked pork flavor of the sandwich. I'm glad I only ordered water bcs a beer would have filled me up and as it was, I only had room for half of the sandwich and slaw! I am looking forward to eating the saved half for lunch tomorrow! (Second lunch!) So very tasty! If you are tired of the same old, same old, burgers, pulled pork bbq, ribs, etc....get this sandwich. It's really good and something you probably wouldn't go to the trouble to make at home with the same spectacular results! I forgot to take a photo of the whimsical note scrawled in the chalkboard sign: "I like PIG butts and I cannot lie!" The smile on my face widened as I read that sign on the way out the door. This was a great restaurant! I was travelling between St. Louis and Kansas City wanting some good BBQ. I got off the highway intending to go to a different place but saw this restaurant and thought I would try it instead. The food was awesome! The sauces delicious! The staff and other diners were super friendly! As soon as I spoke with my Wisconsin accent they knew I was not from there. That started conversation. I was dining at the bar so a few others joined in the conversation. It was a fun time! I enjoyed the sampler platter which comes with 2 sides (I ordered a 3rd) and Texas toast. I really was excited to try this restaurant as i've heard rave reviews, so maybe I just order on a bad day but probably the worst smoked wings i've ever had. It was SO chewy and some even had a little red still inside. I couldn't finish my meal. flavorless and not fully cooked. We also got the ribs (not pictured), while those were actually fully cooked, there was no flavor and everything was so disappointing, I ended up throwing away the meal and just order DoorDash unfortunately that night. I was rooting for this place and used to be a very big fan. I was skeptical at my first time dining since it's accompanied by a gas station, but my mind was quickly changed after trying one of the BBQ mac & cheese sandwiches. Making the normal cross-state drive along I70, this would always be our place to stop and would often take it to-go even if we weren't dining in. A while ago, I probably would've given this place 5 stars, but I've been here plenty of times with no single time having the same consistency or quality -- and not in a good way. Overall, the food just isn't consistent. They will skip items on the entree with neither service staff or kitchen staff telling anyone. I mean, the last time was very frustrating because they left out the mac n' cheese on the mac n' cheese sandwich, and I didn't know until I was well on my way. It seemed very intentional/lazy or the kitchen staff should be trained on their own menu or need better staff. Como S&F, if you don't have certain items, your staff should let people know it's not on the menu anymore and not serve it subpar/charge for it. This has happened many times before. This is place used to be worth the 5-minute detour away from the bustle of downtown Columbia, but after trying this place several times, it's just not worth the chance getting a messed up order, time and time again. read more

So we arrived and I was a bit surprised by the location. A bit off the beaten path in a plaza next to a gas station. Parking was a opportunity. So to start we ordered drinks. The mango margarita served in a mason glass was spot on. We order several appetizers. Fried Green tomatoes, onion rings and nachos with brisket. The onion rings were very good. The fried green tomatoes were a little thick but tasty and served with a homemade ranch that was really good. The nacho's. Were a little light in the cheese but also tasty. On to dinner. The burnt ends were a home run. The sides were a bit disappointing. The Mac and cheese was a bit dry and sticky. The French fries were over cooked and bland. Amazing BBQ restaurant while we were road tripping back to California. It was worth turning off the highway and I saw lots of locals and regulars eating dinner. I will never go back beings they FORCE A TIP, nowhere does it say that a 20% gratuity would be added to your bill, to me as a former waitress and restaurant manager this is the worst thing a place could do. Our service was good, not great, and for 4 adults and 2 kids, that never asked for one thing extra, cleaned up and stacked our dirty dishes,,,,she did not earn a $26 tip. I had planned to leave her a $10 tip. Wasn't expecting too much having so much BBQ in KC already, but this place happily met my expectations! They were out of several items so they must be popular. Luckily none of the items they were out were on my list of things to order. Ribs were decent but kind of dry. Burnt ends were nice and fatty which I like. The brisket was also tender and fatty. Fries were decent, kind of like Five Guys quality. Beans weren't traditional BBQ beans as they had more of a sweet Cajun kind of flavor (enjoyable nonetheless). The smoked turkey was actually smokey which is always a good thing. The BBQ sauce is your sweet kind of sauce but they have both a liquidy and thick version available. Like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. I've had very good meals here and meals that I've asked to have the bill reduced because of sub par meat being served. Consistency seems to be a problem. Last visit via take out, I had to go back because they forgot to include one of my sandwiches I paid for in the order. I thought I was all set until I opened my takeout box of smoked wings and found carbonized very dry smoked wings that were on the verge of being inedible. I should have gone back to fix this mishap, but I was tired. They really should have a quality control person that has the authority to pull food that is not up to par. This place wasn't too shabby. When we walked in, you're greeted with the most wonderful BBQ smell. The place was packed. A very family friendly atmosphere. There was live music. One of the musicians was playing a fiddle. Really sets the mood. My wife and I ordered the sampler and the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban was definitely worth it. At first glanced, the sandwich was smashed together like a brown bag ham and cheese but it tasted amazing. The home made fires were great too. For the sampler platter, I wasn't a fan of the vinegar cold slaw or the beans but the meat was great. Our server was Jessica and she was very attentive and kept our drinks topped off.
