A first class family operation. My father found this place 30 years ago when he was having a transmission problem with one of his classic cars that none of the local mechanics could seem to figure out. He, at that time, met the current owner's father, who although, didn't turn wrenches anymore, his presence alone sought to it that each customer received top quality service at a reasonable price. Recently, a member of my staff was experiencing an issue with her transmission after the vehicle was in a minor fender bender. The local guys, again, were quoting her astronomical figures to replace the transmission entirely. She came to me with her dilemma and when she did, I didn't think twice on who to call. Jim, much to my pleasant surprise, remembered myself and my father. My transmission has been giving me issues for years and finally one day it wasn't shifting between gears and I was having a hard time getting it to accelerate in an adequate amount of time. So I took it to the Kia dealership, they looked at it for 30 mins and $200 later for a diagnostics they quoted me 6k and said the whole transmission needed to be replaced. So, I figured I'd get a second opinion considering my Kia had 80,000 miles on it and took it to see Jim at competition transmission.. he ran his own diagnostic and informed me that my car wasn't shifting between 1st, 3rd & 5th gear I believe? And he said he would take a closer look at my clutch to see if it was stuck, and it was. So $375 he fixed it and now my car is working great. He saved me 5k and was so honest and so sweet which is so nice. Being a woman, you really do experience shops trying to take advantage of your lack of knowledge and try and get you to pay insane prices. I'm so glad I went to Jim because he was so awesome and really saved me sooooo much much time and money and saved me from having to just get rid of my car because I only owe 5k on it and I would rather use the 6k the dealership wanted me to pay to fix the transmission. I have been doing business with Competition Transmission for over 20 years now. I have had them service and rebuild transmissions and differentials in four of my cars, all with high mileage (150K-200K). The rebuilt units always work as good as new and last longer than the original. It is very good to finally run into a honest auto mechanic shop in Las Vegas in 2022. I have been trying to get repairs done on my sons car for over two weeks and have been just put through the ringer with so many dishonest mechanics here in Las Vegas. I was just about ready to give up and sell the car but decided to look one more time for a repair shop in my area and I found this one. Right from the very beginning the gentleman offered for me to bring my car in so he can do a quick inspection to even try to determine what the problem was. Upon inspection he had a good idea of what is wrong which is what I already suspected and offered to let me know for sure so I left my car with him in complete confidence. The rate he quoted me if the repair is needed was fair and in line with all the other shops but the big difference is this gentleman in my opinion seem to be extremely trustworthy and to top it off he was actually working on a car like mine only two years newer. He provided me with the proper paperwork as I left my car with him and I am completely confident that this nightmare is finally over. We need more mechanics like this in America. read more

I highly recommend this shop. I'm from MN and was recommended this shop from a friend of a friend in CA. Do not waste your time, if you need a new transmission, get it here. The customer service was outstanding, friendly, and understanding. In my case my mother had been in a car accident and I was coming to get the car fixed to help her get around. JIM was more than helpful in helping me out with listening to my issues and being able to suggest what ways I could save money. This was extra helpful because I called around and there was a recall on my Nissan in which there was at least 45 people on wait for one. A new one from the dealership was costly and Jim helped me look for one. Needless to say... it was delivered came with better mileage, and it came with a warranty, and thanks to the team there, it is still running great and smooth. It also helped that he knew the other mechanics I tried in the city and called them to check things out for me. Thank you Competition Transmission! There aren't enough words to explain the gratitude we owe to Jim and the staff at C.T. my son was driving my truck to L.V. from Colorado and the transfer case went out. He had it towed to the dealer. The dealer wanted an extreme amount of money so I Googled shops in Vegas and the first shop I call is C.T. and Jim was understanding and very pleasant. Not only did he save us half but he also serviced the Transmission. He got the truck late one afternoon and had my truck done by noon the next day! It drives like new! Very honest mechanics. When my cars transmission was on the fritz I took my brothers advice and took it to the dealership for repairs. They told me it would be $1000 and I would have to leave my car there for a week. I took it to competition and set up an appointment instead. I was charged just short of $500 and the repairs took only half a day. He even told me that if this didn't work to just trade in the car because putting a new transmission in wasn't worth it. read more

What appeared to be a good choice turned south when the nitty gritty started. I was given a quote to replace the trans and valve body (although it wasn't listed but I was assured it was) with a 3 year unlimited warranty. In hand with the estimate I went to get a loan to pay for it. Well, surprise, surprise, Jim informs me he made a mistake on the estimate and it would cost more for the longer warranty. Mind you he didn't even check via diagnostic testing or drive the car. Well things happen for a reason, pissed I went to another shop and what a surprise, the first thing they did was hook up their diagnostic machine to check for codes. Second they drove the car. They replaced the valve body (new), and rebuilt the trans saving me hundreds. The car is running great again. So beware or be square! read more

I have a good friend that owns an elite European service shop here in Vegas. In January 2017, I needed major transmission work on my Tahoe and asked this friend if he knew a good reputable transmission shop? He said he uses Competition Transmission and sends his friends and customers there for all transmission needs. I chose to have a complete replacement installed that came with a 3 year unlimited warranty. Two years and 4 months later I had a very minor growl develope in the transmission when idling. I took it back and Jim listened to it with a stethoscope because the noise was that minor. He said they were going to replace it, free of any charges. My daughter has used the shop as well and was very satisfied with their service. Their excellent customer service exceeded all my expectations. Like my friend, this is the only place I would ever recommend to a loved one or friend. Honest mechanics and they do more than just transmissions. Jim has replaced my clutch, brakes and fixed a dying water pump. This is a relatively new location but they have been in business for over 30 years in Las Vegas. I send all my girl friends here because I know they won't get screwed over. This repair shop gets a+. My uncles suv is having transmission problems. Jim took my uncle out with him for a test drive to see what was happening. I'm so glad Jim is a straight shooter and my uncle is 80 years old and he didn't bs my uncle and take advantage of him like other shops do. I talked with Jim about the pros and cons of replacing the transmission or let my uncle just drive it until it breaks. The suv is a 2007 and the cost of a new transmission was almost the value of the value of the suv. We decided to hold off on the transmission I highly recommend talking to Jim if you are having transmission problems. He's a straight shooter we need more repair shops like this one.
