Jim, Eric and their team not only did an incredible job executing our vision, but also brought their own expertise and insight into how to best transform a space. They really have a knack for both the craftsmanship aspect of remodeling as well as a good eye on how to utilize your floor plan. Our basement was half-finished with a mix of concrete, ratty carpet and wood paneled walls. They knocked down a wall, re-did the floors, added drywall, framed a storage room, built a bathroom, added canned lights, put in new windows and additional electrical outlets. What once looked like a rundown area of our townhouse now looks like an upscale hotel suite complete with the beautiful bathroom that they added. They completed all the work on time and on budget, and we couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job. Not having a lot of experience in the world of renovation/remodeling, it was such a relief to deal with honest, hard-working guys who treat you like family and don't try to hose you over. In addition to doing excellent work, they were all nice, respectful and easy to get along with - and we felt 100% comfortable with them going in and out of our place for the better part of a month. One more point I would like to mention is that during the remodel, we had an issue with our furnace. Four Seasons came out and quoted us around $1,000 to fix it. We told the brothers about it, and they said that sounded excessive. Jim and Eric took care of the parts and labor for $300 that same day, and it's been running perfectly since then. If we ever need any more work done to our place, Brothers would be our only choice, and I would happily recommend them to friends, family and anyone who's looking for great work on their house or condo at a fair and honest price.

Follyn created a "duplex down" turning a previously unfinished part of the basement into a family room, and remodeled the offices for our family business. The project also involved removing and rebuilding our rear porches and enclosed stairwell, as well as remodeling a bathroom, adding a powder room, and gutting and relaying our kitchen and our daughter's bedroom. We used an architect who created great plans, but John's vision and creativity have given us so much more usable space, and beautifully carried our dreams to fruition. We are so glad we entrusted our project to John. His honesty and work ethic are rare. Our architect recommended him initially. Her words were "I think you will find him quite capable." She was so right. We have this old house, and any unusual findings were nothing that gave John pause. To create a legal duplex, we needed to separate our stairwell from the 2nd floor apartment, and move all electrical panels out of the basement. Our gorgeous custom iron spiral staircase and rolling-shutter door concealing electrical panels and meters accomplished this. He tore off our old frame, vinyl sided, 2-level back porch and stairwell structure, and rebuilt it with a brick base and durable Hardie Board siding. The former crawl space was excavated to give us a mud room, huge coat closet, and an under-the-stair storage room. Our porch, which we use quite a bit could not increase in size, but still needed to make better use of the space. This was achieved by eliminating a door and suspending the grill off of the custom iron rails. Our basement was dug down to give us another 12-14 inches of ceiling height-- not easy to do with our shared driveway, no alley, and horrible parking in Lakeview East. This involved supporting our home with temporary columns and putting footings deeper and extending our iron columns to meet the new footings, adding radiant floor heating-- and then pouring concrete. John's expertise in sewers, drains, and a pumps will keep us safe from flooding. All structural elements of our home were inspected and repaired where necessary. Our home is over 100 years old, and is poised to last at least that long going forward. Our kitchen was completely remodeled-flipping the old cooking and dining areas. This gave us two new beautiful and better functioning spaces. All of the cabinets are customwood and were very competitively priced. Follyn Builders has a vast list of excellent sources that they go to for materials and custom work. Their sources offer sharp pricing for quality work. John selects and works with a wonderful team of subcontractors. They are all pros whom I enjoyed being around when I was home. Even still, if something wasn't quite right, John would point it out to us first and then have it corrected. He had our backs every step of the way. Ann does an incredible job with materials management and all of the behind-the-scenes action like parking permits, etc. On the very rare occasion where John is not available, Ann is also very capable on-site as well. Whether she is supervising an installation, or prioritizing the tasks of subcontractors to keep the work flow efficient, she is an experienced pro. I could go on... I checked references before hiring Follyn and heard similar praise. Then, I walked a Follyn project that was nearing completion and was totally sold. I was completely blown away by the level of craftsmanship from the multi-piece molding and custom built-ins to the state-of-the-art technology that today's homes demand. Friends have asked me if the stress of construction got to me. My answer is always that I had the time of my life, and although I am excited to have our home completed, I miss the activity, and the excitement of seeing the conversion at the hands of people who are so talented. Five stars is not nearly enough for Follyn Builders and Developers!

He is also good at solving problems and great at communicating, including responding quickly, having the patience to answer lots of questions, and can explain things in a way that someone (like myself) who knows nothing about carpentry and construction can understand. Clear Oak Construction designed and installed an access hatch to allow me to access the attic in my garage. They also repaired the molding and metal trim surrounding my garage door, which had been severely damaged from a run-in with my car. When I first contacted Clear Oak, Mike responded quickly and made time right away to come out and give me an estimate. He bid out the work at a very reasonable rate and his crew got the job done right the first time around. I will definitely use Clear Oak Construction again next time I need a skilled carpenter, or have a renovation or construction project.

Firstly he and his team built out a clean room where we now manufacture our products, which are distributed around the country. I really was not quite sure exactly what materials should be used for the project, but Mike made some suggestions, both in terms of materials and layout, that made a lot of sense. After that project was finished we had Mike build out our storefront. Again he made some great suggestions as to lay out, things I had not thought of, and the storefront turned out better than I had imagined it. About six months later when we took over the second floor Mike finished out our offices and stock room. He also added industrial shelving in our small basement, which added a lot of extra shelf space, and even built us a small photo studio area in which to take product shots. Mike pretty much took our spaces from shells to finish. Not only did he provide excellent guidance through the whole process, he was easy to work with and unlike a lot of contractors actually showed up for work each day. Over the past couple months, after having finished the second floor, we had Mike come back and expand our clean room to over double its original size. The newly expanded clean room came out simply great and has added a lot of productivity to the operation. I highly recommend Mike and Clear Oak for your construction project needs. Mike takes time to understand his customers' needs and when the scope of work changes, as it did several times for us, he adjusts accordingly and gets the job done in a timely and quality way. We probably incorporated more of his suggestions than we ever would have thought of ourselves -- and that made a huge difference to our finished product. I hired Greg to build a deck in my backyard after another contractor left the job half-finished and several other contractors refused to take it on. It was not only half-done, but done with the wrong materials, and the biggest headache was that the previous contractor had not dug the holes for the concrete posts deep enough and the city inspector ordered us to disassemble the entire frame, dig deeper holes, and repour the concrete. It was a nightmare of a job, but Greg agreed to take it on at a very reasonable price. He faced major setbacks that could not be predicted (for example, digging deeper holes was much harder than expected because of tree roots and rocks, there were supply issues with materials, etc.). However, Greg took these on without complaining and without charging much more than his estimate. I'm no expert when it comes to construction, and he offered plenty of advice and suggestions when making certain decisions. You can tell he truly cares not only about the quality of his work but also the people he is working with. He is always on time, polite, and takes on challenges without hesitation. I'm absolutely delighted with the quality of the new deck. I'm so glad that I found Greg during what was a very stressful time for me and my family due to the previous contractor, and I would use him again in a heartbeat as well as recommend him to anyone I know.

In almost every case, the contractors refused the job, saying it was "too small." One of them actually demanded (yes, he demanded!) that he be allowed to knock down a wall between the kitchen and dining room! Just to make the job :big enough" for him to consider. Then we found Sal Corna. (Thank goodness!) Sal and his crew -- diligently led by Andres -- were thorough professionals. The were no surprises, no hidden extra costs, and the price was competitive and very, very fair. The job was done in about ten days (only five of which we were unable to use the kitchen). We're really glad we found Sal, and we hope to use Corna's services again soon.

***Never consider Times Construction Company and owner for home improving and developing…read moreprojects**** In August 2024, my spouse made an agreement with the owner of this company, Haroon Mohammad, to carry out two renovation and construction projects at our home simultaneously. These projects were supposed to be completed within a maximum of one month. My spouse repeatedly asked the owner of this company to provide the final version of the contract for signature, but Mohammad kept delaying and avoiding this request with various excuses. According to the agreement, we were supposed to pay 30% of the contract amount at the start of the projects, and the remaining amount upon their completion. Unfortunately, due to an unfounded and mistaken trust in Mohammad, my spouse ended up paying him the full amount within a month -- even though, after seven months, the projects are still not finished and Mohammad is no longer answering our calls. He even failed to pay his workers, and we had to provide fruit, sweets, food, and lunch daily to Mohammad's workers for two months. Although my spouse has hired a skilled legal attorney and this matter is being pursued through the legal system, the stress and mental toll he has endured during this time is irreparable. Therefore, if you are considering a renovation or construction project in your home (painting, roofing, remodeling, finishing basement, retaining wall, etc.) , I strongly advise you not to consider this company or its owner. The most dishonest, incompetent, and disgraceful qualities a person can have are embodied in the character of this company's owner.

I would give this company a zero rating. We hired Haroon to paint our basement on 8/16/2024. As of…read moretoday 9/5/2024 the job is not finished. They were very sloppy got paint speckle's on my entire new floor and baseboards. Paint on my stairs leading to the outside and even on my driveway. Left the room with dust everywhere and did not move my furniture back as he said they do. Did not clean or prime the walls before painting them. I had a dust web on one wall corner and it was still there when they said they were finished painting. You can see roller marks on my ceiling and missed panting marks. Every appointment we had with him he either was hours late or did not show up. No phone calls and no shows. We have cameras in our house and they were standing on my $10,000 pool table and my speakers to paint. When I confronted both Haroon and the supervisor Gino all they said was "well was there any damage". After several attempts and missed appointments Haroon agreed to come back. Of course he was 8 hours late and all he said after I pointed out the horrible painting job is that he want to get past all of this and would repaint. 2 more appointments set up with him and no show and no calls. After 2 phones calls of calling the company Times Construction I left a message that I will be going to small claims court about this the supervisor Gino called and assured me that he will get this corrected or refund my money. Same scenario no show for appointments although he did call one time and said that the person that was to come got kick out of the place that she/he lived in and they could not make it. Wanted to set up another appointment on a day that my husband was having surgery. I explained I would need to call back to give them the time. Well I called gave the Ok to come and again no show no call. On top of all of this we have a TV on the wall and Haroon said that they are painting around it because no one can see behind the TV. What a joke. My husband took the TV off of the wall and told them to be careful as it was leaning against our couch. Haroon knocks the TV over and tells my sister " oh well they need a new TV anyways". They also only painted half of the room because they said that paneling cannot be painted. When we researched this and confronted him about it he said too much work. Our contract was for him to paint the paneling. I am now going to take them to small claims court. Beware!
