Mark is a step above all other mechanics. His customer service is unmatched. He replaced the catalytic converter on my 2004 Toyota Prius after it was hit for the 3rd time. I first heard about Mark from a couple of coworkers of mine at John Muir Hospital. It seemed like everyone I asked suggested Complete Auto Works in Concord. So I thought I'd give him a try. I was so impressed my fist visit. I already had some background as to why my car was acting up and sure enough, Mark (the owner), was spot on AND not only did he diagnose the problem, he went above and beyond and told me why that was happening and a quick simple solution to prevent it from happening again. Geez little did I know! So I continued using him and was never disappointed. Then I met my husband and after dating for a while, I found out he used the same mechanic! Very late review. Called in January as I had a check engine light and needed to pass smog. I knew the problem code was for an O2 sensor and had installed a cable that failed but had no warranty. They scheduled an appointment, installed the sensor cable and got the engine light gone. They recommended I get the smog done ASAP in case something else was an issue but I had no issues getting it done. And they were several hundred dollars lower than the next shop. And Mark, and his crew at Complete Auto Works, have earned this high honor from yours truly. Now, I try my best to do as much of the wrenching on my vehicles as I can (you never know when you'll need that skill set in a post-apocalyptic world), but - sometimes - there are jobs and tasks that require tools, equipment, and expertise that I simply can not marshal in a cost effective matter. My first dealing with Mark came in 2003 (which means he is established, and not going anywhere - another business plus!) after I nearly totaled my Jeep. After receiving an estimate from an insurance repair center, I did a little light shopping around, and the name "Complete Auto Works" came about. I spoke with Mark, explained everything, and he fashioned a price estimate that was fair, balanced, and lacked the traditional "nickel and dime" shop charges and fees so common in the modern auto repair industry. Plus, he has - at his fingertips - a whole brigade of auto artisans and specialty craftsmen at his command nearby to promptly and efficiently tackle any side problems or tasks. He even recommended a better, and more inexpensive, part for my Jeep and got it back to road-worthy in a fraction of the time and money others were quoting. Recently, my Jeep passed the 175,000 miles, and nearly a decade's worth of use and abuse had taken its toll on him... In a world, where you can't trust taking your car anywhere for maintenance out of fear of being screwed over, there is a light. After reading nothing but positive reviews, and then talking to Mark over the phone, it is obvious that this was the place we've been looking for. Drove the car in Wednesday morning, and when I walked into the office, Mark knew me by name just by seeing me drive by in the car. We talked about what I thought the problem was, what could possibly be causing it, and how much it could possibly run. A few hours later I get the call from Mark, informing me that they are replacing the coolant tank and gave me an updated price which came out to just a tad cheaper than what we originally thought. Sweetness. I walked over, since it's about a 30 minute walk. The car wasn't ready yet, but Mark apologized, and they set to get to work on finishing it quickly. Honestly, they don't get any better than Mark. I have an aversion to getting screwed by mechanics and unfortunately have more times than I care to admit. Enter a guy (Mark - the owner) who treats you with respect whether you're a guy or girl, whether you're car savvy or clueless. I've had Mark as my mechanic for over three years and during that time he's worked on three of my cars. In every case I have been extremely pleased with his prices (I'm a miser) and with the quality of the work his shop does. I recently had a bad experience with a car, that at times they can be lemons. I had a warning light show up on my dash. Mark told me from his experience what he thought it could be but also told me that it could involve more work depending on if the initial troubleshooting didn't resolve the issue. It didn't but he and his team stayed with the issue and gave me updates along the way so that I could decide whether to keep moving forward or cut my losses. I so much appreciate that approach over the one where you show up to pick up your car and get surprised that they just did $1,000 worth of work with minimal explanation. Only downside is, he's busy but in my book that means others see the value of what he does and appreciate it so I can live with working around his schedule even if it means dropping the car off for the day or booking 4 weeks in advance. Exceeded my expectations!!! My husband had been hounding me to contact a car shop to get my 2003 Honda Civic fixed, after a couple months of lagging I finally decided to check out Yelp. I found four different shops and proceeded to call them. 1 of them did not answer - and did not bother to respond to my mesage. Out of the 3 shops that I did manage to get on the line, 1 stood out above the rest. This shop? Why, none other than Complete Auto Works! Mark (owner and mechanic) took time out to actually come to the phone to discuss my problem. I described what was going on, he diagnosed it over the phone and then said that he would double check the diagnosis when I dropped the car off. He quoted me for 3 hours and for the part and although it wasn't the cheapest that I was quoted, I was quite happy because he was genuine with his work and with his way of dealing with the customer. Even my husband who's never happy with mechanics said that after our dealing with Mark and CAW will never go anywhere else AGAIN. This review is a long time coming! There is not much more I can say about this business that has not already been said. Mark the owner is a professional, honest, respectful mechanic. I found out about him through my work. I was skeptical about taking my car to someone unknown and in Concord no less (I live in Oakland). I first called him and asked for a quote for a cracked axle boot that VW of Oakland was pricing at 300$ (and that was without replacing the axle). Mark was quick and to the point, he told me that the axle and the boot should be replaced because it was already compromised by water and grime at this point. I got ready to get some sticker shock on the quote but Mark shocked me with a great deal, he quoted me 200$ for a replacement of BOTH the boot and axle!! I was so happy that I booked an appt asap and was even able to afford a rental for the day. I brought the car in a few days later and the minute I drove into the driveway I heard some horrible knocking in the rear area of my car. I was convinced this was the axle on its last legs and told Mark about the sound. He did not see any problems right away, but on closer inspection he pointed out that I had run over a huge piece of scrap metal that had penetrated two parts of my tire!! Now I was stressing about having to replace my tire as well, when I remembered that I had paid an extra 10$ at Wheel Works for the tire warranty. YAY! Now this is where Mark went above and beyond in customer service. He offered to take the tire to the Wheel Works down the street and even show them my paper work to get a new tire (only a 35$ service fee...thank you warranty!). He called me later in the day to tell me that he had went ahead and paid the fee and he would just tack it only the final bill! How freaking COOL! I went in the next day to pick up my car with new axle, wheel and all. Hands down one of the best experiences with an Auto shop I've ever had! Thank's again Mark! read more

Without a doubt Mark (the owner) is the best mechanic I've ever taken my car too. Honest, intelligent, knowledgeable, friendly, reliable, and VERY reasonable prices. If you are on a budget, he will tell you what needs to be fixed immediately and what can wait until the next service. I've referred many friends to Complete Auto Works and everyone of them have become loyal clients. The only downside is the location and the congested parking are, but that is my only gripe. If you are a woman with concerns of being taken advantage of by an unscrupulous mechanic , without a doubt you will quickly learn that Mark is the most honest person with which you will ever do business. There is not much that I can add to all the prior reviews but I will: As a senior manager for a 2B a year medical products company I drive Customer service everyday, the customer comes first, no customer no business. Mark gets that he treats all his customers with respect and listens to their problems. I came from concord Dodge Fiat etc with smoke coming out of my ears. Mark stopped what he was doing and worked with me to find a solution. Mark has worked on other cars for me relentlessly under some very strange conditions. Mark gets a 10 across the board. Great customer service always happy and has the desire to get you back on the road with the least amount of hassle possible. I wish I could give Mark and Complete Auto Works (CAW )10-stars. I was originally referred to CAW by brother, who worked at a well-respected repair shop in high school. He told me Mark was a nice guy, knew his stuff, and would be honest. Little did I know how my brother downplayed Mark and his shop! I'll expand below, but there are really two criteria for a mechanic: (1) For routine maintenance, they're all pretty comprable; the difference is in the honesty and their desire to "upsale you"--Mark has my complete trust, and gives his honest assessment of the standard lines like "well, as long as I'm doing the brakes, we really should switch out the brake fluid for another $100" I'm surprised at how often he doesn't really encourage those things, and is able to articulate exactly whey. (2) For repairs, how knowledgable is the mechanic? See below... he's great! I've used CAW for about 4 years now, and here's my assessment: Price: In my experience, for well-defined, routine maintenance, CAW is a little cheaper than the dealer or competitors (I call around). For repair work, Mark is *much* cheaper, and for some special projects (see below) Mark has been ridiculously low, to the point that I actually feel guilty! For example, I left one my old Chevy's with Mark for several weeks, gave him a sequential list of what I wanted, and asked him to work until he hit a dollar limit--Mark had the car for three weeks, and actually *worked* on it. He cleaned up the wiring (shielding it, running new wires/cables were needed), tuned the carbeurator, fixed an exhaust leak, found an electrical draw and made a new bracket for the alternator, and cleaned the interior and replaced some minor screws. When I picked it up, I was told "well, I probably only worked on it a few hours since I just did it in between jobs", and I paid what I would guess is less than two hours of labor--unbelievable! Knowledge: When i was going on to my brother about how great Mark is, he let me know that Mark was particularly well-respected at his old shop, and that his troubleshooting was legendary. I've found the same to be true. He can often perform pretty accurate diagnosis over the phone, and is quick and efficient in the shop. I'd spent weeks trying to track down an elecrical problem in my vintage Chevy, which Mark found in no time. I've taken late-model Hondas and BMWs to Mark, as well as GM products ranging from 1968 to 2004, and he's repaired (as well as maintained) them perfectly. Attitude: Mark is the nicest guy in the world, and will bend over backwards to accomidate you. Evening drop-offs or pick-ups are an option, and he can often give you a ride to Concord BART. My wife often feels like she's being taken advantage of by service advisors; she loves Mark, who explains his thought process precisely and politely. I grew up working on cars, but don't have the knowledge, equipment, or time to do it anymore; I love learing from Mark about the repairs, and he's patient with my questions as to what happened and why. Location: First of all; I don't care where you are, CAW is worth the drive! It's close to BART and right off hwy 242 (very near 680). The only thing you have to watch out for is that the parking lot can get really crowded during the day. read more

Found this place on yelp and after reading all the reviews I thought that I would bring my vw sportwagon to get checked out due to the engine light being on. After Mark had checked it out he had called me and told me that the issue was still under factory warranty. It was an emission problem that I really didn't think was going to be under warranty. He gave me the name of the person he talked to at the dealer so when I called they already knew all about me and my car issue. If Mark wasn't an honest guy he could've made lots of money off me, about $4,500. I will be recommending Complete auto works to all my friends and family. Let's face it, there are few things more disconcerting that having to bring your sick car in to be serviced. Unless you are a mechanic yourself, the chances of getting screwed are really really high. That is why I want to recommend Complete Auto Works. Mark- (the owner and mechanic...and receptionist...heck, I will just call him Car-Man Extraordinaire!) is one of the most honest people in the business. He was recommended to me by my aunt and uncle who had done business with him ion several occasions. I won't bore you with the details, but long story short, I called him and instead of taking advantage and having me bring my car in, he diagnosed the situation over the phone (for free) and advised me not to have it serviced. He ended up being spot on. Since this time, I have brought both mine, and my wife's cars in multiple times over the years and he is always helpful, honest, and very reasonably priced. If it is a situation where he doesn't feel a lot of work needs to be done, Mark will recommend against it. I once brought my car in convinced that I needed several specific things done to it. After evaluating it, he recommended I only do one of the services, when many other places might have taken that opportunity to rack up a long list of services costing hundreds. The only knock on this place is its location. It is not easy to find and really hard to get in and out of (narrow drive way and not a lot of parking). Despite that, there is no one else I would want working on my cars. I have recommended Mark to friends and they have also come away feeling like they got the best deal in town.
