This is the first Yelp review I've ever given anyone. I'd give Mark 6 stars if I could. You can certainly find more professional outfits with a sexy greeter or that will detail your car after every service; but Mark is the most honest and upstanding guy I've ever dealt with in terms of auto service. In my last dealings he performed several services in an attempt to correct a problem with my car. The problem was a bit of a mystery and some of the services he provided didn't help. In the end he only charged me a fraction of the price. What was funny is that in the waiting area I talked to a lady who shared a similar experience. You won't regret taking your car here. I have been taking all of our cars, 4+ at times, to Marks shop for over 8yrs. He has always been outstanding in providing quality auto care at a reasonable price. He is honest, he has integrity, he is friendly, courteous, knows cars and his trade, is quick to help you out in a pinch, returns calls, makes sure everything is up to date and working properly and the list goes on and on . . . Mark is the best! he's honest, he's fair and has the best customer service of any automotive shop I've ever been to. Oh? did I mention he's also a great mechanic. He's been caring for my 2003 BMW for the past 4 years. Since I live in Fairfield, it's not very convenient for me to get to his shop in Concord. There is something to say about reviewing a company that has all 5 star reviews. My entire family have used Mark for their auto repairs for over 10 years now. The last incident is just typical of Mark, he was working on my wife's Jaguar because it stopped on the freeway THREE TIMES!. I took it to him after the first time and he said he couldnt figure it out, I took it to him after the second time and he looked up all of the possibilities and offered to send a part off for a very expensive repair but he didnt think it was for sure the problem. I took it to him after the third time and he did MORE FIXING on a bunch of little stuff he said and I took it for a 3 1/2 hour test drive with his testing equipment attached to the car and it didnt stop. It baffled us, but I took his meter back and asked how much, and he said he would charge for it. I couldnt believe it, he has put in a lot of time on it and still no charge? I couldnt help but let others know how honest and fair he is. Another time I took my daughter took her car in because it was having difficulty starting and he immediately diagnosed it as a loose battery cable, he tightened it and he didnt charge her to do it. Best mechanic around!!! He is very fair and honest. I had a list of things that needed to be done on my 2000 Nissan Maxima. He let me know what my opinion were and what I should handle first and what could be taking care of later! I was very impressed with the service at CAW. I called at about 2:45 pm and was able to have my car looked at by 4:15 same day. I had a "service required" light come on and Mark hooked my car up to his code reader, cleared an old error code, showed me how to clear my own "service required" light with the push of a button and had me out of there in less than 30 min and he didn't charge me anything since there was nothing to fix. Most shops would have at least charged me an hour labor just to do what Mark did. I will be bringing my cars here for service in the future. read more

More than 10 yrs ago, after receiving a very confusing and half baked recommendation from a well known Walnut Creek VW dealer re my car's problem, I took a chance and drove around to get a 2nd opinion; and was very lucky to find Complete Auto Works purely by chance. Instead of charging me $200 as the dealer's shop had asked, Mark just filled up my fluid tank and refused to take any money. I have since stayed with Mark on anything to do with my car. I survived my VM because of Mark. Over the year I watched Mark's business grew and grew and I am delighted to see that his integrity and hard work is now recognized and appreciated by so many. Complete Auto Works is, by far, the BEST auto mechanic I have ever been to. I am a student and a single mother and I have owned some pretty bad jalopies. From an 80's Mercedes, 1984 VW Rabbit to a 2000 Jeep Cherokee (now I own a 2003 New Beetle) so I have met my fair share of mechanics since all my cars were high miles and older. I can tell you that above all, if you take your car to Mark you will get honest service, impeccable communication and the most fair price you could possibly get. When I originally found him it was through another shop that didn't have time to do a lift to my Jeep. They said, "Mark at Complete Auto Works is a great guy, and we always send him work we can't handle". Mark doesn't do the kind of work I needed but he was so polite and concerned on the phone that I saved his number. And sure enough, my Jeep needed some major repairs later that year and I called him up. He looked at my car and quoted me a price and I called round to other shops before I decided on him. He was not only a bit cheaper, but he had such an honest, upfront attitude about it all, and was even gracious when I told him I was asking around to other shops, that it was a no brainer where to give my money. I can't say enough good things about Mark. He ALWAYS always makes sure I am informed before he does any final work, always makes sure if I have a choice to make about which repairs are desperate and which could wait (since money is always tight) that he gives me that choice. He even has driven me and my daughter back and forth to BART when I've dropped my car off and couldn't find a ride. He also has made paying him really easy, accepting a credit card over the phone when I'm at work, or even from a family member that is helping me out. I have sent more than a few people his number and all the folks I have sent to him have such a great experience that my compliments aren't even need. Needless to say, all of them have made Mark their regular mechanic. He is definitely the only mechanic I will ever take my car to, since when I leave with my car it is always fixed well, nothing has ever gone wrong with his repairs and I always feel good about where my money is going. Not only is my money going to a family man, but I can trust I have gotten the best deal I can get. He and his wife even send me a Christmas card every year. I have a 2002 Toyota 4 runner. At first i took it in because the ac compressor needed to be worked on. Mark called me later that day to tell me it needed the ac compressor and about another $1200 worth of work due to the previous owner not having the 50,000 mile work done by the dealer. Mark gave me a estimate of X amount of money and told me he could have it done in 3 days and it was done right when he said. When i went to have the work done he did much more than what he had put in the quote but stuck to his original price. He put top notch parts in and some dealer parts. He did some brake work and a couple other things for which he did not charge me. My neighbor has been going to mark for many many years and told me i could trust mark. After having this work done i will never go any where else and always trust marks word. He does not try to get over on you and will always give you the honest truth. Whenever a woman drives onto the lot of a car repair place, it's very vulnerable. I generally feel taken advantage of and financially gouged. Well - ladies - this is a place you can trust and feel assured that you will be respected as a customer. Mark was great. I took my car here for a major tune up and needed a lot of work. Mark was nice and really helpful. He worked with me when I couldn't get all the tune up done at once, he made arrangements on what really needed to be done first and knocked off a couple of bucks here and there to fit it into my budget. I did my complete tune up in two trips and my car has been running great. I'd definitely come back here for any car problems in the future. read more

Came in and asked if they allowed walk-ins due to the fact that I wanted to do a pre-purchase inspection before buying a used car from a near by dealership. They were booked up, but said they might be able to do it in an hour or two. The owner knew we only had a limited amount of time until the dealer called us wondering where we were, so he took time out of his busy day to look at it, while also calling upon other two mechanics who worked for him to look at it as well. They drove it around, precisely looked at the engine, underneath the car, and did about 20 min inspection. The owner did not charge me as well which was wonderful as well. I came here a couple of times to ask about my car being fixed. Seems pretty busy because he keeps an appointment book and didn't have any dates for me until 2 weeks later. In that time my car would probably be worse off. I also called on another occasion when I had an emergency. I went to Mark and asked for help and he said he'd give me a call back. Never heard from him. I just didn't feel welcome here and I never went back nor kept my appointment. I found a better garage nearby that provides excellent service and doesn't over charge. read more

There's only one other review here, but I agree with it: Mark is a great guy and a fine mechanic. To be candid, I don't know anything about cars, but I have a pretty good sense of when somebody is telling me the truth and Mark is a very straight shooter. The last time I brought the car in it was making a terrible noise up front. Mark gave me a quote, and it wasn't cheap, but quickly told me that since the noise had nothing to do with the performance of the car, and because it was an old car, if it was him he wouldn't do it. I highly recommend Mark. I also agree that the location is not great, but if you can walk for 8 minutes you can get to Concord BART and generally get your business done before picking the car up end of day. read more

I called to get a estimate on a job that booked at 5.9 hours. The estimate was $1000 without parts. I went with another local shop that is charging $450 and they know the job well. A $76/hr shop rate seems more inline than $170/hr. Shop around. read more

Mark is honest and knowledgeable. His rates are very reasonable. Get a quote from him and get one from your local dealership if you want to compare. You may never go back to the dealership again. And don't think that the technicians at the dealers know better. Mark doesn't get all these rave reviews in Yelp! just because of reasonable pricing. I called this auto shop for an emergency inspection. Mark was so nice and squeezed me into his busy day. The service was very professional and friendly. He offered great advice and I even had to insist he take something ($) for his time and advice. It's too bad I don't live in the Concord area as he would definitely be my mechanic. I really can not say enough about how great Mark is. He has worked on my car in the past and I always found his prices reasonable and the service excellent. Recently I took my Jetta into a VW dealer to replace a recalled part and they found several major issues that needed immediate attention. The quote they gave me to work on the car was way more than I could afford, so I called Mark as soon as I got off the phone with the dealership. He was able to complete the work for less than half of what I was quoted by the dealer and did a wonderful job of keeping me informed about what needed to be done, the amount I could expect to pay, and when it would be complete. He even did more work than he originally thought he could within the budget I could afford. I really know nothing about cars and car repairs, but he never made me feel stupid or tried to upsell me.
