This review is not about the doctor, but about the professionalism of the staff. My husband and I called ahead of time to confirm that Compton Eye Associates took our vision insurance. The employee who answered the phone asked for the policy number and other necessary details. She then assured us that they did indeed take our insurance so we scheduled two appointments. When we arrived for our appointments the receptionist questioned if we were using insurance for the appointments. When we replied yes, she said they didn't have any of our information on file. We supplied her with the information for a second time and we filled out the paperwork. Upon returning it to the front desk, another receptionist told us that they don't take our insurance. This was very frustrating as it was a complete waste of our time that could have been avoided during the initial phone call. read more

The actual appointment was professional and done well, but you can't make someone wait a half hour in the middle of the day when they took time off from work to come at exactly their scheduled appointment time. Keep your appointments. Everything else was solid. read more

I love this place. I usually hate anyone looking into my eyes. I have that "Clockwork Orange" fear, But EVERYONE.. I mean everyone from the front desk people to the PAs to the doctor himself, have been friendly, full of good humor (a real plus) and professional. They receptionists even gave me their honest opinion of what frames I should get. The ones I thought I liked were more expensive, but I hadn't worn glasses since the 80s and styles have changed. They did not try to Upsell me. They took the time with me waffling on 3 pairs and helped me choose the right ones . The office is conveniently near my apartment but I wouldn't go there if it wasn't top of the line. It is. I actually enjoy my visits. I won't stick sticks in my eyes on purpose to see Dr. Compton, but have full confidence if anything happened accidentally, Compton Eye would be the FIRST place I would go. I often see training sessions when I come home late from work. That's a nice feeling. That everyone wants to be up to date and learning. Clear to see (pun intended) Compton eye has my highest recommendation. read more

I was notified that this office would start selling my favorite brand of contacts, so I definitely had to make a stop! I emailed the doctor this morning and he replied fairly quickly, saying I could come in to pick up the contacts before the grand release later today. (How cool is that?!) When I came in, him and his staff were setting up for the event, but he stopped what he was doing to help me with what I was looking for. He helped me get the contacts I wanted in a short amount of time. He was so friendly, it was as if we had known eachother for a while! I really love this place. I came here to treat an on going eye infection. Dr Compton and his staff were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. His office is very clean and equipped with advanced state of the art equipment. I purchased Lacoste frames with 3 prescriptions, transitions and even had the lenses poloarized for a great price! They give discounts for positive reviews. They charge 3% fee for using credit cards which is illegal in New York State. I warned them not to do that and they are still doing it. They won't honor a prescription more than year old, overpriced services and frames. I will never set foot in that place again. read more

I am stunned by this office. I arrived promptly at 11 AM for an 11 AM appointment and filled out paperwork because I was a new patient. That's normal and fine. I had my picture taken and was told to sit and wait. I was probably called back up four times to answer the same two questions multiple times: "did you have your picture taken?" "Do you have insurance?" Yes and yes. After an hour, and mind you there were two people there when I arrived, I was taken back for this preliminary exam which lasted about three minutes. I was then told to wait some more for the doctor. So it's going on an hour and fifteen minutes and I still have not been seen by the doctor. When I asked to cancel my appointment, because I was so frustrated, I was told they would check to see if I could do that. The receptionist went to the back to ask and came out and simply said to me "come with me" and she just pushed me ahead in front of another patient, which is not what I asked for. I asked to cancel because I was so done with them, not so other patients would wait even more! The doctor rushed the exam and only spent five minutes checking my eyes. One woman told me my prescription changed a lot and this doctor said it didn't. I was asked about five times if I would buy glasses there. I kept repeating that I just wanted the script. After being incorrectly told that I could only use my insurance's benefits with Compton, a complete lie, I knew this place was not right for me. They asked to schedule an appointment for a follow up and I declined. I was glad to get the script and get out of there. I will not be returning. read more

Always a great experience coming here. Doctor Compton is wonderful and had the opportunity to meet Katie for my appointment yesterday who was also great. They both have a way of putting you at ease throughout your appointment. In my experience the staff was warm and welcoming and I felt very taken care of. In the past I have felt like some of the front desk staff was less than friendly (just preoccupied, really), but that was not the case this time. From the moment I walked into this beautiful, spacious office, I was impressed. The front desk greeted me with a warm smile and it was as though I had been coming to this office for years. The entire staff makes you feel right at home, which is something I greatly value and look for. I was seen promptly - as scheduled, which tends to be a rarity in most medical offices ( I would give 5++ stars if I could!) Dr. Compton was excellent, professional, knowledgeable, efficient and charismatic. He had to perform some specialized testing and I was shocked when it was done in office as opposed to being referred out! This office is well equipped and saved me a lot of time. Huge thank you for that! As a side note, I had to run before I was able to finalize my purchase on the frames, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of frames and brands (including high end names.) I am looking forward to returning next week to get my new glasses and sunglasses. This is a "one stop for all" type of place. Relative to my situation, they are close by and I got a good deal based on my insurance (~$138 through EmblemHealth). Nice and professional people. Got my frame and glass soon after my eye exam (about a week). At the time of this review they have 58 of them on Yelp. They apparently want more exposure as they politely asked to spread the word. These guys are great! They were able to squeeze me in for an appointment the same day that I first called them. Dr. Compton and his team are very nice and professional, and their space and equipment is top-notch. They had me in for a follow-up appointment a few days later and were also able to help me with the eye exam for a new Driver's License (sparing me a lot of extra time at the dreaded DMV). FABULOUS!!!! I discovered this place through an Instagram search and wanted to try somewhere different after having a dispute with my last eye care provider. I liked what I saw online, and discovered they were in my network. I made an appointment and visited for the first time today. I must say I was not disappointed. Compton Eye Associates EXCEEDED my expectations. Everyone I encountered from the front desk receptionists, to Dr. Compton himself, and Ceena the optician, were very professional, patient, helpful,and pleasant!!! No sideways "hood booger" attitudes here!!!! I was also impressed by the waiting area...clean, bright, nice looking, with a mini fridge of water, magazines, and soothing jazz music in the background. I was greeted immediately upon entering. Nice, little details that make a difference. To me, that says you take your business and your customers seriously. I noticed how returning customers were greeted by name....awesomeness. Another great thing is Dr. Compton's emphasis on sanitary practices, as he has mini sinks in his exam rooms. I never saw that in an optometrists office before. He washed his hands, and suggested I wash mine as well, before handling my contacts. He also sanitized the equipment each time I used it. Again, just awesome!!! We reviewed the best products for my needs, and there were no pushy hard sells or unnecessary things recommended just to bill my insurance or waste money. Dr. Compton and his staff were amazing. I needed an urgent appointment on a Saturday afternoon and I was offered a walk in appointment. As soon as I stepped into Dr. Compton's office I was greeted by his staff and my quickly put into their system for my appointment. The atmosphere was very peaceful and calming. The place is very clean with wonderful works of art. I was called in shortly after arriving and my vision was tested. The technician was very friendly and welcoming. Shortly after seeing the technician I got to see Dr. Compton. He was also very friendly and answered all my questions with knowledge and expertise. They are spectacular! I found this office after going to 10 doctors who all told me that I needed surgery to get my "good" sight back. However, Dr.Compton reassured me that I would not need surgery because there were specialized contacts out there for me. After many tests and fittings, I was able to get the right contacts. I'm a college student so just imagine what the lack of eyesight did to my social, academic, and professional life. But, all of that changed thanks to Dr.Compton who never gave up trying to find me the perfect contacts. I have completely different prescriptions in each eye, and every other eye doctor I've seen for 25 years before Dr. Compton was giving me a prescription to correct each eye separately, resulting in glasses with one magnified eye, which was uncomfortable and looked ridiculous. Dr. Compton was the first one to give me a prescription that was comfortable for both eyes (for both contact lenses and glasses), so I really don't want to go to anyone else now! He's also gentle and explains everything clearly. I originally found Dr. Compton when I had vision insurance and he worked on Park Ave in the UES, but when I lost that insurance I couldn't afford their pricing. I was so happy to find out that he has a new office, and the pricing without insurance is very reasonable. I was also excited by his new machines/technology, so checking the health of the eye no longer involves those painful blurry eyedrops or blowing air in the eye. I highly recommend him, even if you don't live in the neighborhood, it's really worth it. read more

Bought some desio Contacts there, apparently they're are not original my eyes got really swollen and infected from a brand new pair, I have order them online before from the original Company and I never had a problem ever.but these same to fake, so after wore them i had to go see a eye doctor because it was that bad,and they said I had Extreme flamanation and infection,my eyes hurt so bad and my vision is blur , please avoid all this and do not buy there desio contacts there, order them online from there original company. read more

My experience here as a first-time patient was smooth from start to finish. I made an appointment on ZocDoc the night before, and it turns out the office hadn't received the appointment by the time I got there - but they took that in stride and fit me in anyway. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The intern who performed my full eye exam was relaxed, patient, and very clear in her explanations of why she was performing each test; she then reviewed everything with Dr. Compton, who was quite friendly. Afterwards I was shown a nice variety of frames for my new glasses. Other reviewers noted feeling pushed towards more expensive frames; my experience today was that they were very clear about exactly how much my insurance would cover, and left it up to me to decide whether to shop above that. I am so happy that I chose Compton Eye associates as my optical. The office is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. The Doctor is a real people person and explained each process in a very practical and easy to understand way. I was surprised he even speaks Spanish. I was amazed at the modern technology where they could see inside my eyes without the uncomfortable drops that dilate the iris. The selection of affordable to designer frames is also amazing and I will be getting my glasses in less than 2 days!
