I'm writing this because I crashed my phone into a boulder while running a steep rocky trail, had to get online for the number, and happened to use yelp. I noticed there were only 4 stars, which surprised me, so I read through the 5-stars to the 1-star. What I found is a guy who tried to sell a refrigerator (a laptop) to an Eskimo (Vince). Vince is not a laptop guy. Maybe he's heard from chiropractors like me how laptops destroy the neck and prevent healing. And I have to ask: Why didn't the guy go to a store that dealt in laptops, AND, if that laptop was so good, why was the guy getting rid of it? Logical guess is that it was stolen and a person who dealt in laptops was more likely to figure that out. Maybe Vince was being a good guy and willing to spend $200 to turn it over to the cops and get the guy busted. And if it wasn't hot, Vince was going to have to sell it at an irresistibly low price because people don't come to Computer Addiction looking for laptops. Okay, now for my experience! After wandering through computer vendors for years, I wandered into Computer Addiction 15+ years ago and have been going back there ever since. My only dissatisfaction is when Vince, the owner, isn't there. Jeffy is good, the other guys before him were good, but Vince is so thought-provoking and fun to work with that I always sigh when it's not him. I'm very basic in my computer needs, not into spending a bunch of money for a top-flight setup, and Vince always has an economical repair, an economical upgrade, or an economical refurbished computer to keep me functional. This place is run by a scammer. First of all i took my high end gaming laptop in to get appraised. I tried telling the scammer my specs and he responds "I know how to look up a computers value" I trusted him because they're "professionals".. He walks in the backroom for 5 minutes and comes out and says it goes for under $500 on eBay and he will give me "$200. I walked outside and looked it up on ebay and my computer goes for a MINIMUM of $1200. Its also obvious they have the "Im always right and my customers are stupid" attitude by how they argue with their yelp reviews instead of trying to make things right. A little bit of research will also show you these scammers also import motherboards on eBay and claim they do not work for refunds. Then they sell those motherboards on another eBay account... Theyre scammers and ill make sure the Better Business Beureu stops this. Edit: Realize that this guy just calls me an asshole. That's great customer service.. Like i care? Was in town briefly for some training and my laptop had a busted screen. I was a bit frantic as time was not my friend. Found Computer Addiction courtesy of YELP. Here is the dirt. Guy was friendly, playful, and knew his craft. Quotes me a price I can live with and fixes my computer on the spot in about 15 minutes. Problem solved. Seriously...what more could the guy have done to make it better? Fair price, amazing ability to fix the problem in 15 minutes, and as a bonus had a great sense of humor and a loyal base of customers. Computer Addictions is "THE BEST" computer store bar none. I have had several computers repaired by the owner, Vince, and gentleman working for him for over a decade. The thing is he does such good work that I seldom need to do anything but buy upgrade software and ask a navigation question or two. I've been a customer of Computer Addition for over 10 years now and they have always treated me kindly and fairly! I'm a computer person myself, so most of my trips there are to purchase hardware, but I can attest that the techs there are very knowledgeable and trustworthy. They really won me over when my littler sister shared her experience with me about her taking her laptop to them. She's like a lot of computer users, she knows her way around using a computer for everyday tasks, but doesn't really feel very confident when it comes to some more technical aspects. Now, if you look the word "gullible" up in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of my sister. The techs fixed her computer, without selling her on things she didn't need and actually charged her for the amount of time it took to fix this issue, not just a flat fee! I took my "dead" Toshiba laptop to this place, hoping to find a solution...... Unfortunately, Vince (owner) was not present when I came in, and the person was who was minding the store --quoted me $175.00 to fix the problem. I ended up going to another computer repair shop (in Davis, CA) and was able to fix the computer for only $75.00. (Saving me $100.00) Vince is a nice guy, but he perhaps needs to find better help. The guy who waited on me that day was like a reject from the Best Buy Geek Squad.....sorry if this comes off like an attack but what really pissed me off was when this employee badmouthed Apple! Not only did this employee turn me off to this particular business operation, but he actually made me go out and buy a Mac Book Pro at Best Buy!!! read more

I wrote my first computer program 50 years ago. I used to build my own PC's from components. I have always fixed my own problems. I have never taken a computer to a repair place. I just came across a problem that I couldn't fix after trying for several days. So, after checking out the Yelp reviews, I ended up at this place. I was thrilled and delighted about how bright these guys are. Really up on all the new stuff that I'm not. They went to great lengths to find my obscure problem and fix it. I was thrilled, once again, that they took a few days to do it because it assured me that I was not just being stupid. Most of the time in the shop was taken up with automated tests. They charged me for very little actual labor time - I think they may have under billed me on that part. Discovering Computer Addiction has changed my perspective with regard to computer problems. Next time I'm not going to waste my time trying to do it myself, I'm going to immediately take it down to my new trusted friends here. read more

I just had a great experience, although I had prepared myself for just the opposite. I've been to computer repair places before and gotten the run around that would last a min. of 2-3 weeks. These guys were not only able to fix my laptop, but while I waited in less than 30 minutes! I have tech support through a major retailer, but the last two times I needed help to transfer date from a hard drive I went to Computer Addiction. They have worktables in the showroom, and let you watch them work on your equipment vs. taking your computer into the backroom. It breeds trust, like a resturant that has an open kitchen. BTW, when I went in to pick up the cord I lodged the complaint only because I was over charged for a service that nothing was done and HIS response to me is "that is what I get when I pay for a Network Engineer to come out for a house call". Uhhhhh, okkkkk ahole. I never in my life have been treated so rudely by a business owner. A burning smell from my laptop had me in a panic. It's tax time and I had all of my (unbacked up) Quickbooks for my business on there. I took it down to Computer Addiction. They opened it while I watched and sure enough, there was about an inch of black burned looking area on the (i think it's called?) motherboard. They thought they could salvage my data onto a new computer. I brought them a new laptop and in a couple hours I was up and running again with all of my original files and some of my programs installed. What seemed like a disaster turned around quickly thanks to Computer Addiction! They did the work quickly and obviously knew what they were doing. I am thankful that I took it in instead of trying to figure it out myself. I could have lost everything! read more

I actually looked on yelp before taking my laptop to Computer Addiction and was excited about the high ratings. However my experience was anything but good. Let me explain. I had taken it in because I needed my touch screen replaced due to an accident and my battery wasn't holding a charge. The young man who helped was Ron he was very polite and extremely confident that the screen could be replaced and no problem with the battery. Well the screen got replaced and works just fine. However to replace the internal battery seem to be another story. It took 2 months when finally they said it was in. Well not even a year later the battery was not holding a charge. I had taken it in to Best Buy to have them clean it up from any viruses and found out the the battery had a date on it of 3 years old. So I took it back in and the owner Vince told us that they only order their batteries from China and they've only had to return 1 in years. Plus no way would the battery be that old and they don't put dates on them. Well when the back was opened there was a Hewlett-Packard battery with the date 2014. But he still kept arguing even with the evidence right there. So that tells me they never put a new battery in it hoping I would never find out. They did replace it and by the way it only took 5 days for it to arrive. So that tells me someone dropped the ball on ordering it last year and than they lied about it. No integrity! read more

My computer was compromised and I took it to Computer Addiction to have the system wiped clean and reinstalled. They did the job quickly and effectively and the price was very reasonable. I have since found several settings that needed to be changed and they have helped me with those for no additional charge. Vince and Greg are very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Would give them 0 stars if possible. Very negative experience with this business. Took my laptop in because it sounded like the fan was going bad. They broke the hard drive connector and I had to wait 5 days for them to get the part and install it. When they returned it to me the sound system was trashed - could get nothing from the machine or speakers plugged in. They had not tested it before returning it to me. Took it back and after 2 days they told me they couldn't fix it and would not send it to authorized repair center. Got it back with the case broken to boot. The owner, unfortunately, doesn't seem to know when he's in over his head, or how to respond when things don't go right. Won't go there again. read more

I work from home and depend on my Dell laptop. One day last week, it decided not to boot up. I have a technical assistant, but he's in Austin and I'm in Auburn. Rather than send the unit to Austin and be without my computer for several days, I went to Computer Addiction. They told me I could have it back in less than 24 hours! They were able to clone the info on my hard drive and save me! I had to get a new drive, but they were able to put all the info back on the new drive and get me right back in business. They know what they're doing and they respect the fact that you need expedited service. I did try calling the Geek Squad at Best Buy, but they couldn't even take my call, so I figured their service would be delayed as well. I'm very happy with Computer Addiction! Thanks guys! read more

This place is amazing- I brought an older computer in there not too long ago to get it running. Sometime afterwards, because it was an older computer, there had been some more issues with it. Instead of giving me a hard time about it, Vince and Ron went straight to work and when the computer started literally smoking in their office, they promptly replaced it with a similar mother board with no more charges incurred! IF THAT ISN'T CUSTOMER SERVICE TO KEEP YOUR CLIENT HAPPY, I DONT KNOW WHAT IS! I will definitely recommend them and use them AGAIN. read more

An unfortunate experience of setting high expectations and then failing to deliver. About three weeks ago, my computer managed to reset itself to "original manufacturers' settings" aka, the kiss of data death! Due to a lack of attention, I closed my notebook without carefully reading a dialog box- big, big mistake. So I went down to the friendly folks at Computer Addition. The guy on duty Greg was very attentive,sincere and seemed to really know what he was doing, same for Vince the owner. They obviously, have a lot of experience and are good with customers, but I think they are not as facile and refined in their skills as their manner conveys. After several scans and some back and forth, I thought these guys were miracle workers and pulled off an recovery of my missing data- but that wasn't the case. $200 bucks later, I had a series of seemingly good files...but you guessed it, all we really had was amazingly scrambled data and blobby number letter phrases...stuff that would make Jason Pollack proud. While the team did try, I thnk they just aren't as experienced as other services I've used in the past ( being from San Francisco, I guess I 'm a little spoiled) I felt I spent alot money for not much value. Get this..Without asking, they cleaned out the factory installed program ( which granted did include some real bone head stuff)- but they also wiped out my "f" key funcationalty as well .Not cool! Next time something major happens I going back to castro computers in SF. They are incredibly competent ,know how to set expectations and get the job done right. read more

Before taking my business HP Laptop to Computer Addiction I signed into Yelp to see what others had to say about the quality of Customer Service that Computer Addition offers. There were only about five reviews all with FIVE STARS. I liked what others had to say about Computer Addiction soI took my HP Laptop in to them for repair. I thought that by the way my HP Laptop was performing that it had a virus. Computer Addiction did a complete scan of my harddrive and found it to be virus free. I was also have some password issues and they promply fixed those as well. My computer was ready for pick-up as promised and the cost was reasonable. I your computer needs service you can take your computer to Computer Addiction with confidence. Keep up the good work guys. We need more businesses like yours in Auburn. Addition: On December 28th my Business Desktop computer was hit with a vicious virus and it would not even boot up. The guys at Computer addiction had trouble identifying the Virus but knowing how badly I needed my Computer back without reformatting it they worked for three days and finally were able to identy and remove the Virus and I am now happy to say I am back in business. This was supposed to be an effort-free update to my laptop. In fact, the laptop was returned more than four days after the promised delivery time. Even so, I had to return to the store as the computer was completely unusable. My files were missing, my desktop was completely changed, and some of my apps had not even been reinstalled. Eventually, I have my laptop back in mostly functional order. There was no apology for the very shoddy work, nor any offer of any financial compensation for all the frustration and lack of access to my data and financial data for days. I have bought 3 computer setups and one custom laptop from Vince the owner and have been very pleased with my computers as I had custom needs. I did not want to pay for gaming features, I dont use them, however i wanted fast processing as I will open many apps at the same time and bounce back & forth, and the ability to have tons of storage for family photos/videos. If I ever had a problem, Phil who has been with the company for years, can trouble shoot anything, as can Vince. Store looks like a bachelor pad as far as decorating, but that is not what I'm there for and while I think these guys are too cool to call geeks, they are computer geeky as I've ever needed. So if you can look past the the housekeeping and goofy little bobble heads near the register, you will find some very excellent computer knowledge, trouble shooting excellence, and some really down to earth great local guys. I have always felt as though I was heard and never taken advantage of. The best part, they have always fixed any problem by the following day, and that is important for me. I was a customer of Computer Addition for over 12 years from when Mr. Russell and his partner first opened the business. He advertises his store on his marqee as "The Hands On Computer Store." Well a few years ago, my brother was in there and interested in a new computer and had his, "hands on," one of Mr. Russells very nice and fast computers. Mr. Russell came out from his office and told my brother, " I'm not comfortable with you in here: leave immediately." My brother left and never came back. In 2006 I myself, was given the Russell treatment as follows. I walked in to his store and he came up to me and said," Two of my friends went out of business; one was shut down and the other one went to jail." He was looking very stern at me when, he said this and I knew there and then he didn't want me in his business either. I don't recommend this business for computer purchasing or repair as, the owner has a volatile attitude towards business and customere. ******* Update on review: Computer Addiction i.e. Mr. Russell has referred to me as 5150 in his latest message. 5150, I believe refers to the CALIFORNIA WELFARE AND INSTITUTIONS CODE SECTION 5150 which states in part the following: "5150. (a) When a person, as a result of a mental health disorder, is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled, ... a statement of good cause." I have not quoted most of the statute here as one can go to http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=wic&group=05001-06000&file=5150-5155 to read it in it's entirety. The main point here is this; by me going with Mr. Russell and his reference that indeed, as it were, I am 5150, I would be nuts,crazy or insane to go into HIS shop in order to pay HIM and have my laptop "smoked" and ruined, and "expect any different outcome." Just up the road one can find Best Buy at the corner of Luther Rd. and Hwy. 49. There I have been in this store and I must say that they do an excellent job of sales and servicing. The Geeks are A-1 in my book and I'll be going to them again. Go to Addiction if you must but "caveat emptor;" let the buyer beware! read more

So boring! I bought my laptop from Computer Addiction around 5 years ago. I use it to run my engineering business. No problems ever. I had them upgrade it with a faster hard drive. They saved me from some very nasty viruses a couple times since I bought the computer. They totally know what they are doing and they cost about a 1/3 of what Best Buy would charge. Best Buy and other repair places in town are a waste of time. Don't get screwed, just go to Computer Addiction and stop worrying. read more

My underage computer drank a glass of wine and went blotto. Ron, at Computer Addiction, removed my keyboard, plugged in an external one, and pronounced "this is an easy fix". He cleaned the space under my keyboard, and loaned me an external keyboard to keep me connected and working until the arrival of the one he ordered for me. The replacement arrived, was installed and I was up and running within 4 days. In every aspect of our work together Ron was professional, capable, quick, reassuring, and the price for all of his time was extremely fair. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone, and I will definitely return the next time my laptop parties alone. read more

Excellent company, service and results.. My middle aged Toshiba laptop just came home with a complete overhaul - more zippy than when it was new! All of our computer work has been handled by Vince and his crew since his shop opened. I did try another service once (because of the warranty) and was disappointed.
