He kept saying he could do it, after a few days of being dropped off, he called and said the issues was a complete different thing and added an extra $600 to the repair cost. I brought my Microsoft Surface Pro 9 in on October 13 with a shattered screen. David quoted $400 for a genuine new screen + $200 labor. One week later, he showed me the laptop with the screen half-installed and claimed the internal fan needed replacement too--I agreed. That's when I spotted the screen packaging clearly labeled "Refurbished." When I called him out, David insisted it was "new out of the box" and said I'd need to pay $80 more for a "new-new OEM" screen. I agreeed again. Picked it up October 29. The screen lit up briefly in-store, but that night, dark vertical bands appeared at the bottom. Over the next two weeks: * Cracks formed in one corner under normal use * Brightness control not working (both manual & auto) * One speaker grill was broken * Adhesive around the screen peeled loose I sent photos via text. Radio silence. Went in person with the laptop. David accused me of breaking it myself and refused to honor the 90-day warranty or offer any refund. Bottom line: Sold me a refurbished screen as new Charged extra for "OEM" after lying Delivered a defective product with additional damage Ignored texts, then stonewalled in person Avoid this shop. Do not go here. I made a mistake trying to replace a fan in my laptop and bricked it, brought it in for diagnosis, fan replacement and potential repair. They took my laptop and power supply, called me a week later saying the motherboard would need a replacement potentially, I said sure and told them to call me back once they found a replacement and how much it would cost. They then didn't call for two weeks so I called back and they said my laptop was destined to be SCRAPPED. When I asked for it back they held it for ransom, charging me for "storage", and never returned the power supply. Avoid like the plague, I'd rather brick another laptop then go here again. read more

My husband paid about $700 to have the screen on his Microsoft Surface Pro 9 replaced. The business represented the screen as genuine/OEM, but during the repair he saw packaging indicating it was refurbished and was later charged extra for what was claimed to be a "new OEM" screen. Within a short time after pickup, the screen showed serious defects, including poor viewing angles, dark bands, brightness control issues, and adhesive failure causing the screen to separate from the frame. The screen later cracked under normal use without any impact. A Microsoft-certified repair shop confirmed these issues are consistent with defective or lower-quality aftermarket parts, not customer damage. After he sent photos by text, the business stopped responding. When he went in person, he was accused of causing the damage and the business refused to honor a stated 90-day warranty or provide a refund. The business also could not provide proof that the screen was a genuine Microsoft part. read more

I had an email jam on my new Dell lap top with Window 11, and I took it to "Computer Clinic Service, " as I was nearby to that store. David of that store requested prepayment of $150, unusual but I paid him. After a whole day, he returned my computer in a whole mess. Nothing worked. I was shocked, angry, desperate, and asked for a refund at least; of course he wouldn't budge. But, i was able to have him restore the original chip into my lap top. In the first place, my computer did not need a new chip. Now, my lap top is partially working and partially disabled. I am left devasted with the mess caused by David of Computer Clinic Service. He assured that it would be a genuine Apple part and that it would be ready in 5 days- which it was not! Finally after 9 days I get the call that my computer is ready, when I picked it up there was no apple logo on my MacBook indicating that it wasn't replaced with a genuine apple screen. When I returned at 6:45, the entire store was dark & the store was closed despite what I was just told. Given that he had a customer's belongings who made it very clear that they were coming back same day, I don't understand why you would proceed to LEAVE EARLY despite the allotted hours you have posted on the door & online. iPhone wasn't booting, brought it here and they couldn't fix the phone, charged me money, and took my perfectly working screen and replaced it with a poor quality aftermarket screen. I asked for my original screen to be put back on, which they failed to do so multiple times. Kept trying to say that they didn't steal my screen. In the end I did get my iPhone back with its original screen, albeit still not functional and money gone. This place is definitely shady and scammy. Im avoiding at all costs. read more

Computer Clinic Services in Cedar Lake Plaze saved the day again!! I *have* a truly ancient laptop that was running Windows 7 that finally crashed and died. No comparable laptops are made any longer, so I hadn't wanted to replace it. I brought it to Computer Clinic Services hoping at least the data could be recovered, and instead, I ended up with a new faster hard drive (SSD) with nearly 4x the storage capacity of my old one (now 1TB), He upgraded it to Win 10, and all my files and programs were ghosted onto the new hard drive--even programs that I didn't think would function on Win 10! He gave me the old hard drive as a backup, just in case. My "new" laptop works perfectly and super-fast, and I'm typing this review using it. It only took 1 day for the overhaul, and the price was a fraction of what I would've paid for even a new basic laptop--$200. I can't say enough good things about Computer Clinic!! read more

I took in two MacBook Pros where I wanted the hard drives on each swapped out. On one laptop, I already had the hard drive I wanted installed. And on the other, I told David, the owner, that the drive was encrypted and I couldn't figure out how to format it without the FileValut password, so I just wanted to replace the hard drive. He told me it would be $120 per computer per hour of work, plus $179 for a new hard drive. I offered him $400 for everything and we agreed, and I paid ahead of time. To be fair, I will say that David completed the work in just a couple hours, and everything worked as expected. However, I will not do business with him again. When I picked up my MBPs, he conveniently forgot to give me the hard drives he had removed, and the USB case I gave him that contained the hard drive I was supplying. He returned ONE hard drive and the case, and when I asked for the second hard drive, he started talking about "my guy" to whom he had given the hard drive because of some vague reason that I didn't understand. I asked him several times, "you mean to tell me you don't have my hard drive here even though I just gave it to you two hours ago?". He started to tell me about the "great deal" he was giving me on the new hard drive, "I only charge you $179." I told him I appreciated it, but I never agreed to give him my old hard drive. This was on a Friday and he told me he would have my hard drive back on Monday. Over the weekend I went to open the MacBook Pro myself and I noticed one of the screws was misaligned. The reason this stood out is because I remembered it was the same screw I had problems with a few weeks before. This made me believe he never opened the computer, and that he only formatted the existing drive but still charged me for a new one. On Monday I called him and I told him I didn't think the hard drive was replaced, and I wanted a refund for the $179. He went on again about "my guy" and that he would talk to his guy on Tuesday since "my guy" was closed because Monday was a holiday. Tuesday afternoon I went back to the store to talk to him in person. First he asked me "are you sure the laptop had a hard drive when you gave it to me?" I emphatically told him "yes!" Then he asked me "are you sure it was a 1TB drive?" Again, I told him "Yes!" Eventually he wrote me a check for $179, which I cashed immediately. I am convinced that David was counting on the fact that I would not ask for the old hard drives, and therefore thought he could rip me off $179. Fortunately I was able to get my money back, but I no longer have the data that was on that encrypted drive. I have worked with computers for 30 years,so I can only imagine that someone who is an average user would have easily fallen for this scam. It makes me wonder what other ways customers here have been ripped off. Again to be fair, I will say that this is pure speculation on my part and I cannot prove that he was trying to rip me off. A friend recommended this place to get my macbook fixed. Total waste of time and money! Feel like I was cheated. The gentleman at the front told us that its most likely due to a bios issue by just looking at the laptop. We asked him a couple of times if he was sure. He kept saying that he was definitely sure, emphasizing on his experience dealing with macbooks. He quoted us $120 to get it fixed and told us that he would call us after 2 days to collect it. After two days I never received a call and then when I called I was told that the laptop was not fixed and the bios didnt seem to be an issue! I was asked if there was any water damage. I told him that I took the laptop to an apple store prior to bringing it to them and the genius bar gave us a printed document that stated that there was no water damage after initial diagnosis. He then told me that he would call me the next day. We waited till late afternoon the next day and yet again, we never received a call. We called them again only to be told that it might be a logic board issue and it would cost us $357 more!!! At that point was I told that the $120 I paid was for labor cost and that I would have to pay the $357 on top of it. RIDICULOUS! I told them I wanted my laptop back and went over to pick it up in an hour. When I went in I was offered money to sell it to them in its broken state. The offer was lower than the labor cost itself! So basically they offered me $100 for the laptop while I was already duped of $120. I politely declined and left the place never to come back for their services. I'm a software guy. I am also completely able to build my own PC from scratch. I just don't have the time for it anymore. And I really can't be without my hardware. I joke that this place has kept me out of Best Buy for 5 years running (maybe it's not a joke though...hrmm). Why would someone who can fix all of his own stuff (and usually does) come here? Because there are some things Amazon Prime cannot do! Like when I need the weird power supply for my Sager laptop that I misplaced somehow, David had one on a shelf. Or to remove the screw whose head I've stripped and can't move anymore, or like today, when I needed an NanoSim to MicroSim adapter for my wife's cell phone that had to go to the factory for warranty service. We needed the adapter so as to use her current Sim card on her old phone or else she'd be without a cell at all for about a week or two. He had one. I know what I want. I know what I need. David either has it or can do it. What more can I ask for? Maybe that he didn't smoke in his back room, I suppose. It's not the smokiest place I've ever walked into, but you can always detect it when you enter. On one level, it adds to the whole mad-scientist's lab ambiance that the Computer Clinic projects, but it can't be good for the machinery (and it ain't good for you either, David! :-) read more

Their professionalism was on point. They told me that yes they could perform the work and I was very pleased with the reasonable price to have the upgrade done to my MacBook! They not only replaced the drive but mirrored the old drive to it as I requested and returned the old drive to me when I went to pick it up. Sadly, what others have written is true. I brought in a computer that required a new keyboard. The charge was to be $29 for the keyboard plus an additional $95 to put it in. I paid in advance and was called when the part came in. I scheduled to come in and wait. Upon entering, the owner looked at the paid receipt and told me that it was not worth his while for that price and attempted to shake me down for more dollars. That was not at all acceptable and he got an ear full. I suspect that this is a common approach. This is a very poor business practice that should stop. Brought in my PC because Computer Clinic had done a good job on a previous PC that I owned. Dropped it off this morning and it was fixed by the afternoon. David was very knowledgeable and explained that the generic charger cord was using too much voltage and had burned out a part in my pc, which he replaced. Paid the usual labor cost plus a small fee for the new cord. My PC now works like a charm, and I couldn't be happier. Charged me $95 before he even diagnosed what was wrong with it and after agreeing to that price couldn't find my laptop, and then once he found it the next day mind you, he didn't call me I had to call him. When I got in contact with him he wanted to charge me an additional $169 and added "if you let me fix it you can make 5 or even $600 dollars selling it" finally I decided not to use his services, before I left he said he would buy it for $100. The day I dropped the laptop off for repair that evening I had my son call the shop to see if anything he told me would differ via a phone inquiry and sure enough it did. It seems he takes a fee promising he can fix the problem but once inside that $95 to $120 becomes a diagnostic fee none of which is transferable to the actual repair cost, you would think at least a percentage would be applicable. read more

At first, I was extremely satisfied with their fast and wonderful service. HOWEVER, once I had tried to start my computer, the same problem had arisen. The issue clearly was not fixed, though the associate had called me and said that my computer was fixed and ready for pick up. Upon arrival to the store to pick up my product, I had another associate tell me that what they had done was take out the partition and replace it. He had also said that the product was ready and updated with the latest macOS. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as it was still running on Yosemite. In all honesty, I was quite disappointed that I paid $120 for labor and services upfront upon dropping of my product for repair, and that I was charged $60 for half-an-hour of labor's work. As an individual who has experience with computers, I had known that this was a video card issue, and yet the issue still remains of my product not working normally. I will take my services elsewhere unless this establishment finds a way to rectify this issue. On March 2010, I went to Best Buys' Geek Squad with 2 hard drives that had gone bad and I needed data recovered from. Geek Squad worked on my hard drives but could not recover the data citing that the hard drives were bad and refunded the $400 I paid. A week later, I decided to take the hard drives to Computer Clinic Service in Sterling for a second opinion. When I arrived, I explained the situation to the gentleman at the front desk, a middle age man of Indian or middle eastern accent, and told him that I had taken the hard drives to Geek Squad the week before. This man seemed in a rush to get my payment and did not care to explain to me what he would do different that Geek Squad didn't do to extract the data from my hard drives. I specifically asked the man if he would give me a full refund if he did not recover any data from my hard drives and he said yes, but that I shouldn't worry about it because they would get the data from the hard drives. 4 days later, I received a phone call from Computer Clinic Service, it was the same man that I met at the front desk, he told me they could not recover any data from the hard drives and that I should come and pick up the hard drives. When I arrived I was told the could not recover any data from the hard drives and that they could not give me a refund. After 20 minutes of discussing this matter, a young male of middle eastern or Indian complexion walked out from the back room and tried to explain that he had tried to extract the data but the hard drives were bad and that I had paid for diagnostics and that data recovery was not guaranteed. I was even more amused by his comments and simply asked the two men to refund the money since they did not recover any data from my hard drives and I had paid specifically for "Data Recovery" not "diagnostics" to recover the data from the hard drives. The young man offered me a refund of $100 and told that that would be the most I would get back. After a few more minutes I realized that they would not refund me the full amount and that their accent was sounding angrier and angrier by the minute. I asked the men to return my two hard drives and drove off without any further discussion. I ended up filing a creditcard dispute with my bank for the $380 they charged me for "Data Recovery" they never recovered. I was disappointed in the place because the customer services was poor and their refund policy non-existent. I fully understand they are running a business, but what they did is the equivalent of taking money from customers for services they do not perform. Let me help you...don't. It's completely not worth the hassle. I promise. My "repair" was not done correctly and I am trying to convince them to fix it right. While in the store the first time, I watched the manager tell 4 people their repair would be completed by 12:00 that same day if they would just drop it off and come back. He took their devices and they left. It was 10:30 and I waited for my simple repair. It took until 11:30, and he had not even started on any of the others. My repair was done incorrectly and it was just a battery change on an iPhone5. They left the retaining plate and three screws out and now the phone doesn't work and I can hear the battery rattling around inside. They are suppose to open at 10:00, and I've taken off of work to get them to fix it. It is past 10:00 and there is no sign of anyone at all. Oh, well. I guess you can't say you have not been warned. I was in this shopping center recently and went in out of curiosity, then looked it up here on good old Yelp and got a hearty laugh reading some of the reviews left by some angry consumers here, so I thought I would make some comments of my own from my personal experience. People that come here should immediately realize that you are supporting a local small business when you come here and not a squad of employees of a large face-less Fortune 500 company who's name I won't mention. Jerry made some very good points that I won't make again, but to add to it, he is dead on that any respectable computer repair shop that has been around as long as this place has will have tons of random computer parts laying around, who knows, one of those parts may actually fit your old 1996 Pentium II running Windows 95 that you have lying around for God knows what reason. For the rest of us who don't want want to spend $100 for someone to just stop by and tell you to reboot your computer, you come here. It's also helpful to know that the useful life of ANY computer or laptop is typically no more than 4 years. If you have one that is that old AND out of warranty, you really should be looking to just buy a new system if the old one is just not cutting it. Stop by, get an estimate, I'm pretty certain it will still be cheaper than letting the big box guys look at it. read more

I told them that I needed it back that day and he assured me that would be the case (as also advertised by their sign out front).
