However, Randy Chastain is the very highest calibre technician I have ever had the pleasure to employ. She is more knowledgeable and professional than I ever thought possible from someone who would grace my living room and work on my instrument. Randy Chastain is a piano technician in San Leandro, CA. She sells and refurbishes beautiful old pianos and tunes pianos for symphonies and novices alike. I recently purchased a older piano from Randy and I can' t say enough about her. I chose an amazing Krakauer piano at a very reasonable price. The piano is probably at least 80 years old, but the beautiful hardwood and ivory keys are in great shape. Most importantly though, the sound is phenomenal. First, the good. Randy is a fantastic piano tuner, the best I have encountered. She spent a great deal of time and effort with me and my piano, which, while I love it dearly, is not a great piano. It's got a great distinctive tone, and it has a long, happy, family history. Randy treated it like it was the best piano ever built. When she left, the piano was sounding just like I remembered my mom playing it. wow that was fantastic! I can't recommend Randy highly enough. The bad, however, was awful. The piano drifted out of tune about three months after she tuned it - not her fault. I was happy to pay her to come out and work on it again. I called her to make an appointment, and got her secretary. That's where the problems started. Working with this secretary is impossible. The main problem: communication. 1. Randy schedules months out, so any problem pushes out a reschedule several months. 2. My attempts to schedule an appointment with this secretary have been utterly bizarre. I've been asked to use scheduling software that wasn't available, to engage in a guessing game ("no, Randy is booked that day, suggest another date - oh sorry, she's booked that day as well. What's another date?"), and when I finally did manage to schedule a date, the secretary would send me one and only one message claiming that "The software double-booked Randy, can you reschedule". The first time that happened, it was my bad - yahoo mail routed it to my junk folder and I didn't think to look there until Randy was a no-show for her appointment. This happened over and over again. Sometimes I'd say sure I can reschedule. Sometimes I'd say no. Regardless of what I said, Randy wouldn't show up for my appointment, there would be no call, no further communication, no response. I don't know what to make of this bizarre behavior. I gave up for several months, only to receive a canned "It's been a year, time to reschedule your tuning appointment" with Randy. I tried one more time, and again got the double-booked message. I said "No, I can't reschedule" - which you would think is a pretty clear response. Again, no further response, and no Randy, after more than a month of waiting. I've tried to contact Randy, but everything goes to her secretary; there's apparently no way to reach Randy directly. I've edited this post for clarity, but as you can see, there has been no response to it. I don't know what this problem was or why it was happening and I can't begin to speculate. All I know is that I finally had to give up on Randy and choose another tuner, who was available only a few weeks out, who actually showed up for his appointment, and did a good job. After nearly a year of not being able to play my piano by the time it got tuned, I can play my mom's piano again! Woohoo! That's all I wanted. So nutshell review: Randy is great, you will love her - if you can get an appointment that won't get cancelled without notice. read more

Absolutely FANTASTIC service! Recently I was in the process in purchasing a piano as a gift for my wife. First, Randy was able to educate on my purchase (my wife is the musically inclined half) and after locating the piano she was then able to appraise the piano the NEXT DAY!!! Which helped me out greatly being that the gift was a surprise gift and we were headed out of town the following day. The biggest surprise at the end of it all was Randy actually tuned the piano before the delivery to ensure great sound quality upon arrival. "Concert Pitch Tuning" -Yesterday, I had my Piano tuned by "Randy Chastain. Randy is truly only the best. Not only did Randy tune my Piano, but she was at the store tuning other pianos when I purchased my piano and stopped what she was doing to help me when the Owner was not there. She took her time to show me the many pianos in the store and provided me with quite an education about pianos and how to select one. She played several pianos for me to demonstrate and even told me all about construction and soundboards. By this time, and because of Randy's education to me, I was ready to make my decision.
