After setting up house, my wife and I usually head out and today was no different. After cruising Yelp, we decided on the Colonial Inn. When we arrived, there seem to be plenty of people there, they were all sitting on the veranda. My wife and I wanted to enjoy the historic Inn so we decided on setting inside. Must say that the inside of the Inn was absolutely gorgeous! We were sitting by ourselves for the majority of our meal. Our waitress, Melissa, did an excellent job. We opened with adult beverages, all of them having colonial sounding names. Must say my Manhattan was delicious! After reviewing menu, I decided to start with the New England clam chowder and my wife ordered their chicken quesadilla. I followed up with ordering their Cobb salad but requested the chicken be blackened. The chowder came out relatively quickly and was indeed delicious! Her meals came out fairly quickly thereafter. My wife noted that her chicken quesadilla is probably the best that she had ever had. Being born and raised in Southern California I take that as a magnificent compliment. My Cobb salad was delicious as they had several tasty ingredients and my chicken was blackened! It was delicious! We decided to splurge for a dessert, Boston cream pie. Had made dinner reservations and were seated at our promised time in this surprisingly quiet, Merchants Row restaurant - a historic, refined dining room within Concord's Colonial Inn Our server Colin was pleasant, friendly, and was quick to take our order. After recommending some specials we stuck to Colin's recommendation of ordering some of the classics including Crispy Cauliflower Bits ($14), Black Bean Burger ($17), 12OZ NY Steak ($38), Yankee Pot Roast ($24), and Pasta for the kiddos! This is attached to the Inn, and they have two giant outdoor patios that luckily we got a table on before the rain came. The menu is pretty standard with a couple of things you wouldn't expect at a New England small town restaurant, and we both enjoyed our dishes. I got the jambalaya (yes, really) and they did a very nice version of it. The seafood was also very fresh and well-prepared. If you stay at the Inn you'll surely eat here, but it's also worth a stop if you're just seeing the historical sights in the area. read more

We had a pleasant experience at the Colonial Inn's restaurant. We sat outside; the weather was really nice and the atmosphere cheerful. We were seated right away, though it took our server about 10 minutes to come and take our order. She was friendly and brought us cornbread and butter. The Crispy Cauliflower Bites looked great and tasted good, though the bites weren't that crispy--the syrupy sauce had made them somewhat soggy. My wife really liked her Baked Scrod; I didn't like my Pan Seared Salmon that much, though it was beautifully presented. The salmon was quite dry and the whole dish was practically without salt. The rice has a mango sauce that's supposed to give it flavor but nothing has a good taste without sufficient salt! I kept adding salt but it was of no avail. We were last here some three years ago - the place remains as it was. About a week ago when we were staying at the Inn four went to the dining room for breakfast, ordering different dishes. One person had a very tasty Hot Veggie Mess (as the name implies a mix of different vegetables); another had an All American (eggs, bacon, done right. This was accompanied by a Cran Muffin. I had a perfect Classic Eggs Benedict with additional bacon. Drinks included orange juice, hot tea,and Cappuccinos. The total came to $84 not including the tip (worth it). Our server Keishla was very attentive. We would ask for her if we dine here again. All in all a good experience. read more

I've eaten at the Colonial Inn many times over the years. I'm always hoping for a better experience than I've had. My most recent lunch convinced me to stop trying. The three salads at our table were fine and it would have been difficult to ruin them. The tough sweet potato fries had been clearly made in the past and reheated. What was most disappointing was the service and the ambience. Our waitress made a very brief appearance to take our order and bring water. After our food was delivered, she disappeared. Eventually we were brought our check but had to go to the front desk who helped locate the waitress to take our credit cards for payment. That was also a lengthy process. We could have simply enjoyed a long lunch with our friends if we hadn't had a loud family with shrieking children beside us followed by another group that was even louder! Really lovely spot in Concord! Food was excellent. Everyone from our server to the staff at the front desk was wonderful. One gentleman from the hotel shared a lot of interesting history about the inn with my son and me. The other staff member at the front desk gave us very helpful advice for our trip back to Boston. This is a historical fixture in the town of Concord, serving as a hotel since the late 1800s. The location is perfect for visiting Main Street and the town center after passing by the town green. A two minute walk takes you to the Concord Visitor Center where you can take a tour, rent a bike, or just grab some brochures. Their water refilling station was not working. So many other areas of interest are easily accessible and close (walking, driving, biking), so location wise, this deserves a high rating. The Inn has "old" and "new" rooms, as there have been additions made over its long history. Our room, 310, was in the newer section. The room was clean and most adequate, same for bathroom. The bed was quite comfortable, all was clean and we loved that the windows actually opened to let some fresh air circulate. No microwave or mini fridge. The Inn itself is maze like and confusing. There are no elevators. The staff was ok but did not seem enthusiastic or knowledgeable about much, overwhelmed with the simplest questions. Both check in and check out seemed to take way more time than it should. There is a parking lot behind the inn, but the spaces are extremely tight and hard to find. It's packed. We visited in November so I cannot imagine summertime. Picturing mayhem. Someone dinged my year old car opening their door carelessly. Ugh!!!!! Frustrating. There is on street parking but not for overnight. Restaurant on site. No warm and fuzzy for us, but was the best priced place in the area. Not horrible but not great. read more

Our tour guide recommended the colonial inn for lunch and it did not disappoint. We arrived at 12:48 on a Friday and they were busy. We decided to eat outside on the porch of this old inn and it was beautiful. My husband got the baked scrod and it was light and delicious. I got the chicken pot pie and it was so good. Flaky crust, chunks of chicken and just a few veggies. It came with a small cup of cranberry cocktail, mashed potatoes and squash. The squash tasted like it had brown sugar and cinnamon in it. Before the meal, they also brought some rolls and some delicious cornbread with very cold delicious butter. Our server was Kim and she was great. Before tip it was $54.57. read more

Great experience! We recently celebrated my Mother's 95th Birthday at the Colonial Inn's Sunday brunch buffet. It was terrific. There were 18 of us and the wait staff (Hannah) was friendly and attentive. (The manager also checked in on us several times.) The buffet had many delicious entrees as well as several gluten-free options. In addition to breakfast items, they also had prime rib, salmon, roasted pork bites, shrimp cocktail, salads, etc. The dessert tables had extensive options as well. A friend who used to live in Concord was visiting from out-of-town and we met for dinner at the Liberty Room. It was a lovely evening so we sat at one of the tables outside which afforded an opportunity to people-watch as well as to enjoy the beautiful weather. I had a glass of wine--a tasty Merlot I think, and we both had fish n' chips. The fish was lightly breaded and tasted fresh, accompanied with tartar sauce that was just right. The french fries were perfect and non-greasy. The cole slaw was light on dressing which most people prefer but I like mine with a little more. This is a lovely place to dine in beautiful historic Concord. I will certainly be back. read more

Maybe if you are an extrovert who doesn't actually spend any time in the hotel this is a good place. The lamp at the bedside was broken, but that was just the beginning of the disasters. All of the fridge shelves are broken. Even the chair I'm sitting in is tilted forward in a very broken way. The stove vent doesn't work, and the stove itself smells so bad that it drove me out of the place. The entire place smells bad; again, maybe if you're not a sensitive person it's not a problem. But even with an n99 mask on I'm very pained here. Very little sound privacy besides. The windows are all painted shut in the kitchen. There's no bathroom vent either. I can't even call this place particularly aesthetic. There's no art hanging on the walls or anything. Besides the location, I can't really imagine why someone would want to stay here. read more

One of the most picturesque little Colonial town squares in Massachusetts, you'll find (the front of) Concord Inn to be an upscale version of what Colonial patriots were used to in the 1770's. Sit outside for lunch and soak in the history. There are no reservations for outdoor dining on the porch and walk-ins are often turned away on busy summer and autumn weekends, so book a table inside in advance and ask them to make a note you prefer the porch. Not sure why they don't do outside reservations. You can also eat in the inside restaurant, which is nice but feels a bit strange, like eating in a Victorian grandmother's house. One of our favorite spots is the tavern, which is very rustic ... lots of dark wood and brass. Almost like eating in an old barn with a warm fireplace. Not quite as nice as outside porch seating on a sunny day. Even during colder weather, they have heaters outside which make the outdoor dining comfortable. I am taking off one star for the chaotic reservation system and the often slow service. The food here is good ... you'll find antique New England staples, like Chicken Pot Pie (technically theirs is chicken and vegetables in gravy in a casserole dish with a flaky pastry topping, not a pie), Yankee Pot Roast (tender crock-pot style sliced beef in a beef gravy) and Indian Pudding with vanilla ice cream. Their creamy clam chowder is a-ok for those who don't mind a little bacon in their chowder. There are more modern dishes with avocado, fancy salads, fish and chips and even a reuben sandwich and poutine. Our favorite is the bacon blue cheese burger ... this is a fantastic no-frills cheeseburger but it is done perfectly. If you take one thing away from this review, make it this ... UPGRADE TO THE TRUFFLE FRIES! These are some of the best truffle fries I've had. They are tossed in a coating of truffle flavored cheese. Hard to describe but you'll be amazed! Overall, the restaurant is a staple for us during the summer and especially the fall months. There's no place like the front porch or outer court yard to swat away yellow jackets and take in the movie set-like atmosphere of New England. We have not stayed in the Inn but the old colonial part of the inn doesn't have many rooms. There is an ugly brick annex building, built in the 1970's attached ... this is likely why so many bad reviews appear. I too would be pissed if I was expecting to stay in a 1770's Inn and was put in a small room in an attached building that looks like a college dorm from the 70's. read more

Great place for outdoor dining when in Concord. Was surprised at how few restaurants there are in the town center. Had a nice lunch or fish and chips (nice piece of cod that was lightly battered). A few good beers on tap helped for a great meal. Ended up returning later for dinner with my wife. Ordered the chicken pot pie, which was very good. Loved the sides of mashed and squash. We stayed here while visiting family. The rooms were okay, staff very nice, on site restaurant pretty good and easy parking. The location is very nice. Our two issues were the shower head (brown and covered in gunk - we only showered once as we were so disgusted (the room was overall decently clean otherwise). The other problem being the bathroom has no fan. The walls have permanent water stains from the humidity via the shower (and probably mold). And if anyone leaves a fragrant deposit in the toilet, the whole room stinks for over an hour. read more

I've stayed here 3x and the 1st 2x I asked for the haunted room specifically by number it was 24 or 27 something like that. Both times I made arrangements to travel there and they had booked the room. My son was so disappointed and the hotel acted like it was no big deal when they know damn well people fly from across the country to stay in that one room to investigate for their YouTube channels. How unorganized can one be? If someone was in there and decided to stay longer that's not my problem, move them to another room. Chef is meticulous in quality control in the smallest details such as the buttery crispy edge on a pancake or the perfect poached egg on the Eggs Benedict. Full of flavor, great coffee, lovely interiors, great service. I have regretted going anywhere else for Sunday brunch. Colonial Inn ruined a rare date night for special needs parents. For Christmas 2023, I gave my wife a $125 gift certificate for dinner at the Colonial's restaurants. It's very difficult to get babysitters for our children, so we've had one date night in the last two years. Not surprising then that we hadn't used the certificate by early December of 2024. We planned to go finally, but my wife discovered she'd lost the piece of paper with her name and the amount. I talked to someone on the phone and was told, no problem, we'll issue you a new one; pick it up when you can. I still have the email I sent with a copy of my PayPal receipt. It's a bit out of the way, and I forgot to drop by when I was near, but we were driving through Concord a couple of weekends ago (in late April) and we finally stopped by, and unsurprisingly the certificate was nowhere to be found by that point, but the manager I talked to said to call the sales department on a weekday, make a reservation the same day, and just pick up the certificate when we arrived for dinner. I called later, and was finally put through to the right office; they didn't answer, but someone was nice enough to call back later in the afternoon. I relayed her the details on the receipt, and she said she'd look into it. Saturday night, in the middle of dinner, someone finally called me to tell me "We can't replace the gift certificate." He assured me they'd honor it if we found it (not an act of generosity--under Massachusetts law gift certificates can't expire). I've got two problems with this. #1, someone had already told me back in December that Colonial would replace the certificate. #2, I don't like it when someone says "can't" rather than manning up and admitting that the employee or the business has chosen to do or not do something. Even if it's a policy, someone made a deliberate, conscious choice, and it's disingenuous to present that choice as if it were something compelled by physical inability, a mysterious force, or possibly a dark conspiracy. I couldn't even get the guy to respond to my objection that I'd already been told Colonial would replace the certificate. He just kept repeating the sadly obvious untruth that "We can't replace it." I'm unemployed, I wanted to take my wife out for our anniversary, and I really don't need someone to steal my money and then lie about it. read more

Second time I've been to the Colonial Inn and I'll never tire of it. Last year I had Chicken Marsala and this year I had Chicken Pot Pie. Both were wonderful, although the Pot Pie won me over. Warm creamy chicken wrapped in a puff pastry. It was the perfect meal for this cold winter day. The potatoes needed cream and butter and the butternut squash needed a little more flavor and nuts. The cranberry mash was excellent. The only suggestion I have is the restaurant turn down the heat. I felt at times I was boiling. read more

This location is a bit dated..no pun intended. It needs a deep, thorough, attentive cleaning. The hightop table where we sat had cobwebs clinging precariously to the light fixture...a strong breeze may have wafted them straight into our meals. An absolutely awful experience, from arrival, thru the evening, thru an attempted, subsequent conversation with management. Arriving, and there was certainly less than a warm welcome. Stood without recognition at all from FD management. While the one individual was juggling what sounded like some dispute. The room I booked online, a second floor room, did not turn out to be where I bunked in. Rather, I was led down some stairs, to find my room was under the ground floor by 5 or so feet. With a predicably funky aroma. There were lamps and other group-gathering-gear scattered carelessly in the hall outside the room. There was no cell service in the room. And the room itself was tiny, OK. Until around midnight heavy road equipment and lights began to work literally, outside my half sunk, buried window at Midnight. Including jackhammers. The crew finally stopped around 3 AM... So no real rest. Prior to my writing this review, I spent some time, trying to contact the Inn to discuss my experience. Having spoke to a Gent, presumably the manager, he displayed no compassion or willingness to discuss. And worse, was not willing to provide any follow-up contact information. The Colonial Inn was absent of responsibility. The presumed Manager was kind enough to give his assurance that I should feel free to post of my experience. Ironic. In Concord. Tried very hard to be an old/classy place but doesn't execute that well. I'm sure the building is historic, but it's not like it's particularly interesting, and keeping the decor old really just means keeping it bad. I wouldn't mind as much if it didn't try to act (pricing, attitude) like an upscale place. The food is very mediocre and the service is very slow. Our family went here for the sec d consecutive year on Easter. The buffet offered a delicious assortment of meat, seafood, and vegetables. Everything was scrumptious -- the delicious swordfish with its unusually flavorful sauce, the various meats from deli appetizers to delicious...as it prime rib? There were fantastic vegetables, waffles with fresh strawberries... Every employee -- from front desk to host to waitstaff -- treated guests with warmth and professionalism. There was Easter bunny for the kids as well as food at the buffet specifically labelled for children (ie., mac and cheese, chicken)... The dessert buffet, too, was varied and delicious.
