First time here for California state outdoor archery tournament and many positives here. Plenty of parking, easy/nearby access to freeway, close to nearby food (In n Out, Chipotle, Chick Fil A, etc), and relatively new tournament range. Thanks for all the planning and hard work to construct the tournament range and the volunteers who put these events on. Fortunately the weather was great (not too hot). We had a great time in Simi Valley and looking forward to coming here again. Cell phone reception on the range is not too good although you can get a little bit of reception in certain spots, and it does work if you drive 5min into the surrounding neighborhood. read more

I recently tried the public Saturday archery class from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and had a blast. You can come armed with your own equipment if you're an expert or intermediate level, but as a first-timer, newbie, or beyond, they provide you with equipment to borrow. The staff goes over your eye orientation (whether right or left-eye dominant), provides you with an archery arm guard, and goes over the safety rules. They had multiple instructors who helped you orient yourself and your bow and arrows to shoot at the target. It felt like many directions, but as you go more rounds, your body and brain start to retain the information. I cheered when I finally hit the target! My only goal for the day, besides getting out of bed, was to hit the target! Maybe I didn't hit dead center, but an arrow (and even more arrows) made it onto the target! Yay! There is no good cell phone reception at the range where the public course is held, so if you're meeting anyone, try to make sure you decide where to meet beforehand. There is free parking on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. through a fence to your left, a little from when you enter the park. The public session costs $5, and you must sign a waiver. Bring cash, as, once again, you will probably have no cell service. Thank you to Kevin and the other instructors and staff who helped me patiently. Extremely unprofessional and unorganized (which is so scary for a range). It was our first time going here and we were confused as to where to go, but when we found a few targets and were then pointed out for us to follow this path to a different set of targets where everyone else was. Once we got there we immediately got told NOT to follow that path as it's very dangerous and "like walking through an active gun field". We were then directed to "go talk to a guy in the blue shirt" but as we are walking to him another man stops us and tells us to go into the trailer. Okay fine- then as we're walking to the trailer we are stopped yet again and told to go talk to a man in a brown shirt now! Fine. As we're walking the other guy is yelling "go to the trailer" omfg so we turn back towards the trailer and then again "No the guy in the brown shirt" ...... at this point i'm wondering what happened to the guy in the blue shirt that i allegedly needed to talk to. Anyways, I digress. So we get to the guy in the brown shirt to sign our waivers and he says that it's actually too late to sign the waivers because it was 10:25 and they stopped doing the waivers at 10:15 First of all, why couldn't anyone tell us that EARLIER and second of all, the website has no indication of this rule. Also the signage is terrible and if the path that we were sent down is so dangerous, why were we even able to go there?? There should be signs and closed gates not an inviting path that people are sent to go down and then get yelled at. Also I don't understand how everyone working there is so out of the loop with each other. read more

I have been to this range for group lessons twice and multiple other times for the public sessions. I had no prior experience and found this range to be friendly but strict with safety (understandably). My whole family including kids 8 year old to young adults have all been able to enjoy this range. This is an amazing family friendly outdoor activity (minimum age 8). The range can be difficult to find, pay attention to instructions on their website. The parking closest to the range is not free per instructions on their website. The lessons are run by a private instructor and coordinated with the range. The public sessions are run by club members and can get fairly full especially later in the morning. But for the very minimal cost of $5 inclusive of equipment, I think they are doing a public service. Some weeks just happen to be more popular than others as well. In terms of instructors and club members running the session, I have seen quite a few over my multiple sessions. They were all friendly and eager about the sport. But I agree with them about prioritizing safety. FYI when you show up, there are waivers to sign. Then there is gearing up, which can take 5-20 minutes. After that beginners should approach instructors for more guidance. Anyone who is not brand new can join the shooting immediately if they feel confident and can remember the safety rules. If there's a large crowd each round of shooting takes longer. I've found that I generally stay about 2 hours and then call it a day whether it's a large crowd or not. The only time I was physically exhausted was when I was paired with a bow with higher draw weight. We don't go as often as I'd like due to timing conflict. But I definitely plan to go whenever we can. read more

Went here a few times for group events. In any group event you'll spend most of the time learning range etiquette, but the place is so small each round of firing three arrows takes about five minutes, so don't expect much practice. The worst part is the hosts, who have previously been nice, were very rude and inconsiderate the last time, going so far as to eject my daughter from the range, yanking her quiver off her belt, for having her mask below her nose while shooting to prevent her glasses from fogging up. The one who ejected her was repeatedly holding his mask under his chin while talking to everyone. read more

Me and some of my buddies get together regularly to try new things, so we scheduled a visit here to check out some archery. Rose was super helpful, and made the afternoon a good time. The lessons were fun, safe and informative, and we got to have our usual overly competitive antics without fear of anyone getting impaled; she runs a tight ship. Turns out some of us are better at archery than others - but a good time was had by all. Highly recommend... the attached photo was the only bullseye of the day (mine - woohoo). I'm a newbie and this facility was awesome. I know they offer a lot but what I really have taken advantage of as of now is their Saturday open sessions. $5 for shooting between 9-1, equipment included, with coaches onsite to help you out if you want pointers. I don't think you can get a better deal than that anywhere. These saturday sessions are great for all ages. It's also in a partly shaded area so if you're worried about shooting in the sun don't be. I like to spend my Saturdays here with my dad and we just stick to the shaded area. It takes me about 40-50 minutes to get here but it's worth all the driving in my opinion. The range is located way out in Simi Valley, but well worth the drive. They have a private fenced area next to the park, and a private FREE parking lot if you are going to the archery range, as opposed to the $4 parking for the park. The range has plenty of 5 meter and 18 meter targets, and a few much further out. On Saturdays they hold a $5 class from 9am-1pm which includes all supplies and instruction from experienced archers to help develop your skills. You start on the 5 meter targets and progress once you can group your arrows successfully. The classes have become extremely popular in recent times, so to get the most out of the experience make sure to get there by 9am. You can leave at any time and can take breaks at any time. Came here for the Saturday 9am to 1pm session. For 5$ equipment is provided to you can shoot all day! The place is full of very helpful volunteers from the club running it. Great instructors, the place is packed filled with beginning kids to adults (I believe 8 is the minimum age). Safety is really important and stressed so no one gets hurt. Learned a lot watching the pros bring out their different types of bows on the longer practice range and it's pretty crazy to watch how good they are. read more

Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm. There are certified coaches that will provide guidance and training as well as the necessary equipment to get you started on this ancient art for $5.00 a person. $5 for 4 hrs- Is that a steal or what? The coaches here do this out of the love of the sport. Some of them have been teaching this for 16 years. You can also talk to the more experienced archers as this is a community that likes to help each other as well as compete to improve their skills. It's a great place to hang out especially with kids. Seeing their reaction as they hit the bullseye for the first time is priceless! Drinks are sold here via an honor system. Water is .50, all others are $1. This facility is run well with safety as their first priority and fun being the close 2nd. read more

Been a member of Conejo Valley Archery now for almost a year since getting into the sport. This is a good place for all levels of archers. The place is family oriented and very kid friendly. Saturday public sessions from 9am to 1pm are perfect for those who like to get into the sport or to try it out. I've been here before and experienced the volunteer staffs unprofessional,exclusive attitude. (Not everyone there is like this..but a good percentage) but today was the cake. When I arrived with my party, that included my 10 year old son and his friend, both of who have ADHD. The lady who greeted us outside, quickly and rudely went over the range rules. Then when she quizzed them right after on what she said and they weren't able to answer correctly. She became more abrasive and insulting. When my friend nicely apologized and mentioned they have learning disabilities, she replies "that's not it, they just don't care. " in such a mean a deming tone. It upset my friend's child enough that she didn't even want to shoot, when before she was excited to go. I would advise them to do some sensitivity training for the people who represent them, before they get sued or someone catches an interation like this on video and posts it on social media. read more

For $5. What an amazing experience. This place is fantastic for kids and beginners. They are personal. They instruct you in the basics and according to your needs to improve your skill. I now know what it feels like to be left handed in a right handed world because I am right handed but left eye dominant. So everything felt backwards. But they stick with you until you feel comfy on your own. They provide cool looking protective equipment, so you look like you're the ish. They are very organized and they have a system to maintain safety on the archery range. I will be definitely be back bringing friends and family to this place. read more

With only a suggesting asking price of $5, this place is amazing. They are very supportive for new learners. Make sure to come earlier in the morning because once the people start packing in, you have to wait for everyone to have a chance to shoot before shooting again. We arrived at 10am and shot approximately our 3 arrows ~6x until 11:30am. MAKE SURE TO PARK IN THE PARKING LOT INSIDE THE GATE INSIDE THE PARK, not the general park parking...or else you'll receive a ticket. read more

I really love coming to this range every weekend. Every Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm they are open for the public to rent all the gear you will need to shoot at their range, for just $5! The range is tucked away among the valleys, so there is a lot of fresh air and nature all around the place. Their coaches are very knowledgeable, have lots of experience, and they all still participate in competitions to test and improve their own skills. Also, their number one concern is safety and encouraging people to improve their own skills instead of rushing through the process. read more

This place was great the first time I visited but I recently went again and took my nephew! The woman that hands out the bows and arrows instantly saw him and said "we require them to be a little bigger, at least 8 years old" she didn't even ask his age... he's 8!! I can respect the fact that the Archery Range is run by volunteers, and as a fan of the sport myself, I adore any way, shape, or form it can be practiced in the Simi Valley area. However, after attending the range two separate times, I can easily state that I will not be attending a third time. I am relatively knew to the sport, having gotten a compound bow for my birthday a few months back, and was hoping to not only break it in at the range, but maybe learn a few tips and tricks as to how I can improve my abilities. Famous last words. From the second I stepped foot on the range, I was treated with what I found to be absolute disrespect. I was following the rules, paid my $5, didn't cause a scene, and showed respect and safety for those around me. All I could assume was that I was the odd man out using a compound bow at 5 meters. Newsflash: when I'm brand new to the sport, I'm going to start small. You know...like the trainers advise everyone to do? Heck, I actually had one of the trainers speak to me as if I had a second head growing out the side of my neck because I was starting with a compound bow. I am a firm believer of treating people with the same amount of respect you want to be treated, and just because I don't have decades of experience doesn't mean I should be talked down to. Also, when I am seeing 13 year old girls firming arrows with loose grips, improper stances, and not even keeping an eye on the target and not getting chewed out while I accidentally forget to look behind me while pulling out my arrow from the target and getting spoken to like I committed a felony, it doesn't exactly spark my interest to come back the next week. However, come back the next week a did, and as horribly as I was treated by the volunteers, the actual dozens and dozens archers were even worse. Again: I try to treat others with respect, but that's clearly a one-way street. If I did anything from wearing my brace to low to lining the arrow up the wrong way on my bow, I wasn't just corrected my my fellow archers: I was flat out insulted. "Hey, you like your wrist? You wanna not have a giant bruise? Then you might want to slide the brace down a little." Subtle. However, when I brought a friend with me the second time around, and decided to have a near-quiet conversation during a break period that was being addressed to archery club members (and members only, meaning that what was being addressed had absolutely nothing to do with me or him) and I'm met with a literal "shut up!", I knew that this archery range was not the place to me. We took out arrows, I grabbed my bow, and we headed home, never looking to return again. I like to shoot arrows. Its my form of relaxation and mediation. I am smart enough to know the basics of safety and precaution, and would never take archery as anything less then serious. Since then, I have been arching privately and on my own with a private teacher, and have learned more then anything this place could teach me. If you want to do archery but don't mind being spoken to like a child and mind even less being surrounded by either noobies who don't care one way or another, or being beyond uptight, this is the place for you. But take it from experience: you can do a lot better, and frankly, this range can do ALOT better as well. read more

My daughters (10 and 12) signed up for the beginners archery class in summer 2017. It was a great experience and one that had carried over past the course into our own back yard! The class is loosely structured but in a way that you still learn what you need to learn, so you can focus on actually shooting. Our coach was great and was willing to take a little time to help my autistic daughter become a better archer. Can't recommend enough. 10/10. read more

I shot as a teenager and loved it... so I thought I would introduce my kids to archery as well. Came here on a Saturday with my kids and paid my $5/ea. For the time, instruction and equipment... it's an absolute steal! I have only been here the one time so far, but the staff was VERY courteous and helpful. I didn't see any indication of some of the complaints that are on here. The one thing I did not like actually has nothing to do with the business. It's about the parking situation. Be sure that you either park in the designated lot for the archery center or pay your $4 fee at the entrance. I was lucky and didn't get ticketed... but I guess it's a hefty fine if you forget (something like $70). My boy loved it... my daughter, not as much. We will definitely be back in the near future though. read more

Was at Turners outdoorsman in Oxnard came across the archery department was talking to Carlos he told me about The archery range in simi valley said its open every Saturday 9am-1pm gave me the website to verify that range would be open as its closed when they have tournaments the range is non-profit they ask for $5.00 donation as the money goes back to buy equipment if you have as family of 4 or more it would only be $15.00 met a couple of archers Lee & Mike was asking them about equipment they were very helpful. I'm gonna try writing a review again conejo valley archers are the biggest archery club in California they have they have 5 meter all the way out to 90 meters overall the place is very friendly on the exception of a couple of coaches but that's normal you always will find some coaches that just don't care about anybody but that's just the way life is I said it before I'll say it again Mike Lee Brent coach dave are really nice people the nice thing about Mike Lee and Brent mainly they're so easy to talk to they don't make you feel like you're an idiot if you have any questions there more than happy to answer them the best they can brent and mike from what I understand have been doing archery for a long time keep up the good work you guys I'll still keep coming back went to woodley it was fun but I love the review about that later. read more

First off the range is not very maintained. But that is manageable as it is outside and hard to do. What isn't OK are the "members" that I encountered there. Here is my first experience with the canejo valley archers. The sign on the fence said "open to public". So I went into a very empty range that had a small party going on, on one end of the range. so I set up shop at the farthest target from the party, making sure to give the kids plenty of space. I was following prober range edict, waiting untill everyone was off range before shooting even though there was a good 50+ yards between us. However, when I went out to retreave my arows, and Still mid field, they had the kids start shooting. I was shocked. 10+ kids shooting arrows in my direction. However, maybe that's how the canejo valley archers do things. So, I followed their example and fired through their "all clear" call. That's when a very rude women yelled from across the feild that if I was not a member I had to go. When I pointed out that the sign still said open to public. She said something to the effect of. "just because I didn't change it to close. Doesn't mean it's open and we have a party going on, you have to go!". Oddly enough As I was packing up. The party left. She was rude. The edict was extremely dangerous . And it wasn't a very good field. And judging by the people. I wouldn't join or recommend the club to anyone. All of it was a very poor example to the children attending The party. read more
