The Conestoga finally got steaks back to previous quality before Covid hit. The issue I have besides the price being double pre- pandemic ( probably explains slow customer base). When you spend $30 on a meal and your slow there is not reason to get old cold fries (mine) or cold baked potato ( wife's) and cold rolls with your meal. Waitress was great but the cold food turned me off. I've been going here for close to 40 years and live in Florida to boot- really disappointed. I've overlooked a lot for various reason last year or so but not anymore at these costs. One more chance and it will fall to the wayside with the rest who want to just get by or don't care about customer. read more

I came back to my home town to eat dinner at Conestoga with my parents. The first thing I noticed is that we did not have to wait long for a party of 8 at 6:45 PM on a Saturday night! That was nice, but this place is usually packed! When we were seated, our server took our order, and the games began! She stood at the head of the table and ordered us to pass food,drinks, condiments to and fro to each other. Whoa be to the diner who did not follow her directions the first first time. We make a point of eating here when traveling through Dothan. This small, unassuming restaurant has OUTSTANDING steaks at a great price. I especially like the french fries, but my wife is always happy with here baked potato! The steaks are always done to perfection and I don't know what they do, but the flavor is mouth watering. Have been here many times. I find that it's hit or miss. Today was Mardi gras so every resturant in Dothan had a hour or more wait. When we finally got seated after a hour or more wait. Then it was awhile before we got our drinks. They give you crackers instead of rolls at the table. I love me some rolls so that is a let down. The place hasn't changed or upgraded in years. It's completely outdated. Same walls and tables and honestly really small. And there is always a line so I know they can afford to make some changes for it to look good. There were 5 of us. My husband and I ordered the Same thing steak and baked potato. Both medium well. My steak was thinner and overcooked almost crispy actually. So he traded with me. When I cut into it, it was medium to medium rare.. so I sent it back. Half of us didnt get our potatoes until we had already half the meal. So I sent my steak back . I had a potato to eat on a napkin with no plate. So when they brought the other potatoes out I took that plate they came on to eat my potato since I was eating it off a napkin. There were 5 of us and they brought out 3 biscuits, or rolls or something. I didnt get one I gave them to the kids. When my steak was brought back out it was so overpowering salty and dark from the juices they poured back on that It waa nasty I was going to take it home to my dog but my kids ate it anyway and at this point my potato was cold. It was definitely a miss today. I will say the last time I went my salad was lettuce and one tomato cube. Today it was actually bigger and the best thing I ate. read more

Very disappointed. We have eaten at Conestoga's several times before, this has been the worst experience ever - definitely not returning. We waited 30 min or so for a table. Our waitress was nice but slow,...... We ordered our drinks and food as soon as we sat down. Salad was old and wilted it apparently comes out of an iceberg lettuce bag and is topped with a slice of tomato. My husband had the 20oz T-bone. I had the special a 12 ounce ribeye and our daughter the children's steak. All our steaks were overcooked. My husband's and little girls were not edible "charred" it took the waitress 15 min to come back and check on us. The kitchen sent out 2 new steaks. My daughter's steak was well done even thoughwe asked for medium. My husband's steak was still mooing. No one from the kitchen or management came to the table to apologize. The waitress came out with a doggy bag w 2 slices of cheese cake for us to take home. We refused the dessert because we do not like cheesecake. Once we went to the register to pay we found out one of the owners was there and wa mis aware that there was a problem but was busy socializing w friends that she could not take the time to speak w us about our experience. I asked to speak w her and she acted like it was our fault. We try to support local businesses but after this we won't at least not steakhouses. The food from a vending machine at the hospital is more presentable and tasty than the "food" we were served. read more

They only sell steak so you would think they would be unbelievable - maybe I just set my expectations too high...or maybe it was just bad. I was visiting my boyfriend at Ft. Rucker for the weekend last weekend and Saturday night date night rolled around. In Atlanta, we can usually be found having a pricey fabulous meal, so we ventured out to find something fun. We feel the same way about chains- even the worst independent place is better than a crappy, mediocre chain where almost everything is cooked from frozen. We decided to stop and check out the menu of the Conestoga, but someone had told Zac that it was "pricey" - when we approached, we were taken in by the smell - delicious steaks wafted out. The atmosphere is ridiculous- it looks like a church basement except replace the red gingham with brown gingham. We were completely cracking up at the menu because there really is only steak. No appetizers. No extras. We might have been the first people to order a bottle of wine here in years - a $15 bottle of Glen Ellen did the trick with old-timey wine glasses. Service was top. Our steaks (a small ribeye for me and a big one for him), were overcooked- more to medium/well than medium/rare but honestly, the people watching and simplicity of the place were pretty fun. The rolls are amazing- yeasty, delicious, hot. We were in and out for $60 with dessert and a bottle of wine. Cheapest meal we've had in a while. I just moved here for work and the choice selection of restaurants here are pretty poor. I came here based upon the suggestion of locals and found it to be very good. Indeed the atmosphere is not very ideal; it's a dimly lit, dark with outdated fixtures. The menu consists of two pages and their main selection is of course, steaks. I find their steaks to be cooked exactly as I have ordered. I always get medium rare, and it's never over or undercooked. The sides could definitely use some updating, but their main focus is steaks. While working in Dothan it was recommended I try the Conestoga steak house. Let me begin with, one should never judge a book by its cover. The food here is AWSOME. The menu is limited. Trust me this is a good thing, Makes it much easier to make selection. The salad was a salad. The fry's were very well seasoned. The filet was AWSOME. The flavor was amazing. The tenderness, I used a butter knife to cut it. And it was to my liking of rare. Service was great. Place was clean. if you are looking for a great steak this place is defiantly worth a stop. It appears that something has happened... one table, three guests... two of the three guests order the exact same food.. 8 oz filet.. one gets a perfect 8 oz filet... the other gets this ribeye lookin piece of meat that they call a butterflied filet... Overall...better than a chain steak place but not up to par for foodies. Arrived at 4:30pm on a Saturday and was surprised to see a parking lot full of cars. Entered to find a waiting list for tables. Although very busy I was seated within 15min and promptly greeted by my waitress who was very friendly. I was pleased that she immediate asked for my drink order and provided me with a menu. The menu, as others have noted, is limited to steaks and a couple of near steak options. Vegetarians don't bother going here. NO options. The wine list ... well isn't a list. You get your choice of one offering of each of the major styles of wine which is a real bummer because a good wine can really help a just "ok" cut of meat. I ordered the larger Ribeye with baked potato and salad. My waitress brought the salad was out very quickly and with a smile. The salad consisted of iceberg lettace with a slice (yes slice) of tomato on top. No croutons. No anything. The salad dressing was a bit much and either runny or they didn't drain the lettuce well. The result is the same. When the steak arrived I thought back at some of the other comments posted on the site. There was a lot of "juice" but it wasn't sitting in grease as stated in other postings. It was cooked correctly (medium rare) and the baked potato was cooked just right. I liked the fact that the butter was already on the table so I wasn't fighting with a frozen lump of butter. Good job! On the downside, the pepper was more pepper dust and the salt was about as far from sea salt as one could get. Ok, so now on to the really important thing...the steak. Ok. That's it. Ok. Tasted like a grocery store quality piece of meat cooked excellently. Better than a chain restaurant steak but....far below a really quality cut of meat. This is my favorite steakhouse in Dothan. Extremely casual and homey atmosphere with the added bonus of not having music blaring. The wait staff is always courteous, prompt, and attentive. But the steak is the real headliner. I always get the ribeye, home fries, and extra sauce. I have never had anything other than an excellent experience at this restaurant. We were there on a Thursday night. My husband had the 12 oz ribeye which was on special for 19.99. He got a baked potato and salad. I got a sweet potato, side of broccoli and a salad as I don't eat steak. Everything I ordered was straight forward and hard to mess up. My husband liked his steak and said the rolls were really good. Conestoga is a small divey steak restaurant beloved by the locals. Apparently it's regarded as the absolute best in the wiregrass area. Tonight was my first experience. It's a very small unassuming building set off of 231. If you're not looking for it you will pass it. At 6 this evening there was a considerable crowd and parking was sparse. The interior is kind of shabby 60s- 70s era decor with paneling and dim lighting. I was a part of a group of 8 and we were seated immediately. The hostesses and servers were friendly. The beer selection included Bud, Bud Light , Miller Lite, Ultra and Corona. I hadn't had a Corona in a long time and so I had a few. Had I realized they were $4.00 each I would have likely had 1 or none.... The special tonight was an 8 oz ribeye with 2 sides for $15.99. I ordered the special medium rare with salad and fresh cut fries. The salad came out first and was ice burg with a slice of tomato. Fortunately the below mediocre salad was topped really good chunky bleu cheese. The main course: The steak was way over cooked - nearly medium well and the fries were not crisp and unsalted. They appeared to be made from left over baked potatoes. The "sauce" is a Dales type marinade with a less salty flavor and a hint of smoke. The flavoring of the steak pulled out the 3 here. Had my steak been cooked remotely close to medium rare I would have boosted my rating to a 4. The flavor was very good. I really like the sauce. The server brought the table cups of the sauce. It was hot and a splash on top of the steak running down to the flavorless fries really helped the meal. Seems like based on the majority of Yelp reviews there is an issue with consistently preparing the steaks to the appropriate temperature. If I go back I may order rare and see what that gets me. I would purchase a bottle of the "sauce" on site had it been available. The flavor of the marinade was fantastic and largely the reason I enjoyed my meal. If you're in the area and you're not particular about the temperature at which your steak is done it's worth trying. read more

We have never eaten here, but the 1 star review is for the RUDE person I delt with over the phone. I called to make reservations for my husband's birthday ONLY to be very rudely told they didn't do reservations on the weekend. Okay, well I let that slide. Then I ask if their building can accommodate a 10 person group, only to be answered with a very nasty attitude about how they have "too much overflow" on the weekends, and they couldn't possibly accommodate. My fiancé and I decided to try Conestoga on the recommendation of so many friends. We figured since everyone raved about it, it had to be great. I couldn't care less about the wait... you're going to wait at a decent restaurant regardless (less the fact if you have reservations). We waited approximately 20ish minutes and were seated at a large table for just him and I. No problem, we didn't mind the space. The beer and wine menu/options were lacking but we figured we'd make the best of it and pair as best we could. The salads came drenched in dressing... thankfully the amazing rolls could soak up the extra dressing. The steaks came out not too long after the salads. Sadly they were overcooked and seriously lacking flavor. They offered some 'sauce' which looked like au jus to pour on top, but it didn't save the flavor of the steaks. We're hoping it was just an off night in the kitchen so we will give it another try some time. read more
