I liked the atmosphere inside. The outside was just ok since it's in a strip mall. However, the Chicago hot dog I ordered and the chili cheese fries (minus the jalapeno) were very good! Inside it has a nostalgic feeling with the decor & the music. The staff person taking my orders was nice, but she was eating an entire meal on the side. Kind of weird doing that in front of customers. I would go back to try a different hot dog, but eating hot dogs is something I normally don't do and only do when I have a hankering for one. We try to visit a Coney Island Hot Dog joint each time we're in the Central FL area. Originally discovering the one in Zephyrhills, we've also been to ones in Brooksville and now this one in Largo. Upon arriving, the interior was very clean and neat. It had the vintage memorabilia on the walls that most of the locations still have. We were greeted by a nice waitress. It's always impressive when we get thanked for coming in and she did just that. I ordered the Norm's Bigg Dog because I'm a huge fan of loose meat. This foot-long hot dog had a pile of loose meat, cheese, and it was topped with coleslaw and several onion rings. Everything was prepared great and the bun was also delicious. My husband is a fan of the Coney sauce with cheese so he got a dog with that on it and it did not disappoint. We also had a small corn dog, which was fried perfectly. Great flavor on a great bun. It was a little heavy on the onion but certainly nothing I couldn't fix myself by scraping a bit off. The french fries were just OK. Nothing to write home about and accompanied by a ketchup brand that I'm not familiar with, although ketchup is ketchup right? No. Fast friendly service is what you'll get here. My husband and I really enjoyed this place! If you're looking for some good food that reminds you of a better version of the fair - this one is for you! This is my second visit to this spot. It's an hour's drive, but since we enjoyed it so much last time, we decided to make the trip again today. To start with the obvious, The sign outside the restaurant says Coney Island Hot Dog, not Drive-Inn, and prices. Our first visit was a couple of years back, and even now, the prices remain unchanged. You won't find such affordable prices anywhere else. I'm not sure how they keep their prices so low. The restaurant is situated in a strip mall with ample parking available right in front. The seating is plentiful and the place is very clean. They offer a variety of hotdog styles, along with chicken wings and hamburgers. I haven't tried the chicken wings myself, but I noticed someone nearby enjoying them, and they looked and smelled amazing. They have two sizes for hotdogs: short and long. Once again, the prices are quite reasonable. We ordered a southern chili dog and Norm's Bigg Dog, which comes topped with loose meat, chili, cheese, slaw, and onion rings. We also got a large chili fry. If I had to mention one downside, it would be that the chili was a bit on the salty side this time. This place is so cute and very nostalgic. Love the vintage stuff all over reminds me of an old fashion hotdog house. The staff was so friendly answering all my questions. And I have a lot of questions when it comes to a dog! So the menu prices are pork hotdogs but to upgrade to and all beef is .50$ more per 6 inches!! This place like most these days has changed. I have no idea if they have changed vendors or what, but not what it used to be. Just not the same quality. The guy we behind the counter was very friendly. However, he has a listening problem. At least three or four patrons had to ask for changes or additions to their order after they received them. I've been to the Brooksville location many times, and was happy to hear they were opening a new place close to home. I love all kinds of hot dogs -- Coney, Chicago, ballpark, whatever. But...this location was very disappointing. The food quality is just not there. The worst part was the hot dog itself. Mushy, no flavor, kind of cold -- no "snap" at all. The bun was unimpressive and kinda mushy and slightly too long for the hot dog. My foot-long had enough onions for a yard-long--maybe to cover up the lack of hot dog flavor. I barely finished it. The fries are fine, but if you want cheese sauce, order it on the side. They put way too much cheese on top of the fries and create an over-cheesy mess. At least the cheese sauce is pretty good. The milkshakes were also kind of disappointing. Not actually hand mixed -- just poured from a machine with vanilla shake mix like at McDonalds. I wish it was better. Maybe it will get better. But when a hot dog place starts with a cheap and mushy hot dog -- it's hard to recover from that. read more

Make sure you upgrade your hot dogs. I ordered two Chicago dogs and didn't realize you had to ask for Vienna dogs. I tossed them out, the basic hot dog is horrible and cheap. Been here twice now after going to Bruce's place hundreds of times over the decades. This new place does not even compare. Bruce would be turning over in his grave if he came here. The hotdogs are mussy, tasteless, low-grade quality, undercooked, and cold. They put too much stuff on it, ruining the taste of a rather bland hot dog to start off with. I ordered a long Chicago Dog and the menu says it comes with a poppy seed bun. Totally false. It was a plain bun. That is not a Chicago Dog. I guess claiming to be "Coney Island", they wouldn't know. Happily Fulfilled!!! Was glad to see a location in Largo on my Yelp search. I've a the pleasure of the Brooksville stop (true sixties experience) and the relatively new location in Crystal River, Largo is up to par with all these family owned restaurants! The option of all Beef Dogs allowed me to stay on the Carnivore diet. Prices and Service are excellent!!! To no surprise the food was excellent as to be expected from this great family organization! Though the name says "Drive-Inn", it is only in the name, it is a walk-in, carry-out or dine-in, as there are several small booths and tables, and some small surf board shaped tables against the windows on the side. The day we were there, they were 'cash only' on a handwritten sign on the door, presumably due to the power outages from Florida storm Debby. They have 'small' and 'long ' hot dogs to choose from and several variations , such as 'Chicago Dog', plain Dog and several others. The hot dogs were good and the Chicago dog was complete with pickle slice and hot peppers, but were missing celery salt. Buns were not sesame seed buns, but were ok. Service was place your order at the counter and was ok. Time for food to arrive was ok and not unusually fast or slow. The counter fronts are decorated with automobile license plates from what looks like most every state and even some from Canada. Would I go back again? Yes. read more

I finally tried this place, as I was passing by during lunchtime. I was born and raised in Chicago, so I think I know a good dog. Among all of the (mainly) Chicago memorabilia, they have a prominent Vienna (Chicago hot dog brand) sign, but the hot dogs I ordered were definitely not from Vienna. Most everything is a la carte, with only a couple of meal specials. If you have a dog, fries, and drink, you're easily past the $10 mark. I opted for the $5 special of 2 small dogs with chili and onion, and fries. The drink alone bumped me up another ~$3. The meal was passable for the price. The dogs were generic and flavorless, and an odd gray color. The chili tasted like canned hot dog sauce from Walmart. The sprinkled onions were fresh. The fries were somewhat chewy and hard, as if they had been re-fried to warm them up. I wasn't expecting gourmet food for $5, but I would expect WAY better quality if I was paying the posted menu prices. I will give them another shot with a classic Chicago dog next time, and see how that goes. read more
