I ordered the 5" Philly and it was maybe 4". The meat was good but for less cost Sams seafood restaurant and there are several around the area are just as good bigger and cheaper. I also got onion rings and they were so greasy and in my opinion under cooked. Grease was literally dripping from the paper bag they put them in. Definitely a solid cheesesteak. Been to Philly and this is definitely a contender. I did knock a star down as they weren't the friendliest. Apparently, the hours were incorrect and they were trying to close (it was 4pm, hours said they close at 6). I seemed to have thrown them off as they weren't expecting anyone else and could hear some bickering which I thought was a little off putting. I explained their "open" light and flag were still outside (and door was open) and the cook said it wasn't a problem. Either way, good food. Can't knock em on that. I have been meaning to try this place for a while now, and I'm happy. I finally made the trip. You walk in and the staff is super friendly and greet to you as soon as you walk in. It did not take very long for me to be able to place my order and I just sat down and watch TV while I waited. I purchased a Philly cheesesteak in the french fries. And both were absolutely amazing probably one of the best Phillies I've had in the area. The sauce was evenly spread all over the Philly and the sweet peppers and onions tasted so great. I will definitely be back here within the next couple of days to try the chicken Philly, but I absolutely loved the regular Philly and the fries were very crisp and delicious! read more

I've dined at the Colonial Corner Hoagie Shop for as far as the eighties. The Philly cheesesteaks are always cooked fresh with chopped ribeye and served hot!! The flavor has always been excellent as well. Counter service as always here where you place your order. Haven't been in for a while and was surprised on how the inside atmosphere drastically changed. Don't get me wrong, it's extremely clean and updated, but it is definitely missing the old school decor which added to the atmosphere. Hopefully sometime they may add something to give some character. Just my opinion...I always feel drawn more to atmosphere when I'm going somewhere to eat, along with taste. The Violet Stone in St. Pete and Delco's Original in Clearwater blow this place out of the water. I was surprised with how small the cheesesteaks are and how it's mostly bread. (Even my own pictures are a bit misleading) However, it's only $10.99 for the cheesesteaks so pretty cheap. Very little seating inside and you don't pay until after you are done eating. read more

There are several cheesesteak restaurants in the area, but in my opinion, Colonial tops them all. The shop is in an older strip mall & upon entry it is apparent that you've stepped into what could be an established neighborhood cheesesteak shop in Philly. 5 men were working behind the small counter & several greeted us as we entered. On a side note these guys were conversing & joking with each other, as if they have been best friends running this shop for decades. I ordered a cheesesteak with onions, sweet peppers, & hot peppers. Away they went chopping up the ribeye on the griddle. They then whisked a piece of heaven to my table. The roll was classic pillowy, soft. The meat was finely chopped with no questionable parts in it. The white American cheese connected all the pieces with gooey creaminess, & the peppers & onions delivered. Caution, the hot peppers truly have some heat. Several times one of the guys would lean over the counter to check on us & make sure the food was ok. It was more than ok. It was perfect! read more

Parking was easy The crew was friendly and polite. They took my order easily and I sat down. There are surprisingly a lot of things on the menu. Last year I did a cheese steak tour in Philly. So I was excited because I had heard these were the closest thing we had in St Pete. Welp... That's a letdown. The sandwich was good. But for $15 I expected to be blown away. The bread was less chewy than I got in Philly. The meat was good. But overall the sandwich felt less substantial than what I got up there. This has been rated #1 by many people so we aren't going to disagree. Great cheesesteak. It's a simple, no-frills counter with sports nostalgia on the walls and a big flat screen TV for sports. The place is large enough for a sit-down and grub sesh, but has no bathroom. So go beforehand, or plan your emergency escape route XD. I have been frequenting the Colonial Corner for decades for the occasional "Authentic" and DEE-Licious Philly Cheese-Steak Sammy. My only regret is forgetting how good they really are and not stopping in for one for an extended period... Their loaded Philly Cheesesteak is served steaming hot right off the griddle and chocked full of chopped Ribeye, peppers, onions and cheese on a hoagie roll. My favorite addition is the Hot Peppers! Don't forget to add an order of Fries, one order is large enough for two peeps. The diner hasn't changed hardly a bit in my 35 years of visiting and still has a quaint and welcoming feel when dining in! After ordering you can grab your own drink and bag of chips if you like, paying before you leave. Service is fast & friendly, food is hot and delicious and - and very reasonably priced. IMO - one of Southern Pinellas County's best Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwiches, there are others that may rival but theirs has been consistently delicious for my 35 years of occasional visiting! We read an article about this little shop that has been in business forever and stopped by to try it out. We have now found a new go to philly cheesesteak go to location. The meat had a superior flavor to any of the others that we have previously eaten over the years. Upon entering, the staff greeted us, we told them it was our first visit. They were very friendly and helpful of any questions we had. I ordered the cheesesteak, had a choice of hot or sweet peppers. I chose the sweet peppers, which I loved. The steak was seasoned and the bread was fresh. Fries are the typical crinkle fries. They have new hours which works out better for us. I guess I'm in the minority, but I just don't get the hype. Nothing was inherently bad, just average. The Philly steak was tasty, but I've certainly had much better. It was also pretty small for the price they charge and the amount of steak they stuff in there is a bit anemic. I ordered the chili dog on my visit as well as this is a special they only have certain days and it was a bit strange. They chop the dog in a bunch of pieces and throw it on the flat top to heat it and put the chili on top. It tasted okay, but definitely would have preferred a non mutilated dog vs. this chopped messy 10 napkin minimum experience. It's a family run business, and walking in to the restaurant was like stepping into a time machine. I appreciated the charm, but the food just didnt hot the mark for me. read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Saint Petersburg for a long time. Family owned, every time you walked in there you would see a familiar face, and there were personal photos and Philly sports paraphernalia all over the walls. I don't know when it happened, but that's no longer the case. Everything is all bright and shiny inside now, with empty walls and no Philly flair, and it feels like an entirely different restaurant. I have ordered food since the renovation, and it is still good, but something has clearly changed. I wish this place luck in the future, but I sorely miss the restaurant I came to know and love. read more

I finally got to check out Colonial Corner today for lunch. I had heard many mention that it was the best cheese steak in the city, so I had to check it out. This is a little shop in a plaza off of 49 St N in Pinellas Park. You could tell it had been a round for a long while, 45 years to be exact. As soon as you enter, you can see the character this place has. I was greeted immediately and my order was on the griddle within a minute of being there. I went with a cheese steak with onions and hot peppers. They offered provolone and American cheese and I went with American. While waiting for my sandwich, a gentleman talked me into ordering it all the way. I believe that comes with hot and green peppers. This same gentleman told me he has been coming here for 40 years which was reassuring. My food came out quickly and it looked good. My first bite was incredibly hot, but also incredibly tasty. They seasoned the meat well, it was moist, and it had great texture. The bread was nice and soft and the cheese was good. I would have liked more cheese on my sandwich, so next time I know to order extra cheese. Overall, it was a really good sandwich. It was a bit smaller than expected, but everything else was on point. I definitely enjoyed my first visit to Colonial Corner and it certainly won't be my last. They used to be cash only, but they do accept credit cards now. Solid spot for a cheese steak! read more

If you know anything about cheesesteaks, you'll know this place is the real deal. Homemade rolls, fresh ribeye, hot peppers, even the meatballs sold by the pound are perfect. It is cash only so be aware... But worth the trip. If you get a chance across the street is fantastic Mexican called El Hurrace Veloz. UNTIL afew days ago i stopped by for my monthly deuce of cheese stake and i see place is painted and new people all over. first I thought I stopped at wrong place I doubled check no it was a right place. so I ordered my cheese stake and while the guy taking my money asks me "WHERE ARE YOU FROM?" I replied "LA" he again PERSISTED "NO I HEAR YOUR ACCENT WHERE ARE YOU FROM?" again i replied "I heard you, I am from LA?" HE SAID "NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME." i replied I UNDERSTOOD YOU and you got your answer". I thought about canceling my order but I thought ah No I am gonna give these people a try. I got my food i got home 1st couple bits I was like this is different, by 3rd bit the cheese stake was full of JALAPENO. I MEAN it was MOUTH FULL OF FIRE. IT WAS SO HOT THAT DOWN MY TROUT WAS BURNING. I throw the remaining of the sandwich out and scratch the place out of my routine. what ever their problem was with my accent it differently showed in their food and service. so think twice before heading that way. read more
