Great Mexican seafood at this Michelin rated restaurant in Inglewood! My friend and I shared the following dishes: Ceviche Marinero: Fresh and tangy with a generous amount of plump shrimp. We asked for another basket of chips (free) to scoop the ceviche with. Crunchy and delicious. Filete de Pescado a la Plancha: The seabass was tasty and delicious! Nicely cooked and melted in my mouth. The side veggies and rice were also nice compliments. Each dish was around $23 - $25. Considering the portion sizes and proteins, these were a great value for what we got! You also get a complimentary basket of chips at the beginning with an actually spicy green salsa. The interior and exterior of the restaurant are nice. I liked seeing the display of news articles about this restaurant displayed. The service here was great as well. My husband picked this spot for lunch right after I picked him up from the airport, since it was really close. He was excited about it having a Michelin star and wanted to give it a try. From the outside, this little spot looks more like a tax office than a restaurant, and even with the sign visible from the street, it seems easy to miss. Once inside, there are tons of awards and recognitions on the walls. We sat on the outdoor patio, which was cute and had a family-backyard feel. We were attended quickly and service was very friendly. For food, I ordered the ceviche marinero, my son the tacos gobernador, and my husband the ceviche de pescado. My ceviche was decent but nothing that stood out. It was a bit too acidic for my taste, but so was my michelada. My son devoured his tacos quickly, though I noticed there wasn't much shrimp in each one. My husband's fish ceviche was also decent, but I'm not a fan of fish ceviche in general because of that slight "dirt-like" taste (but, that's just me). Overall, I wasn't super impressed, but it is a solid spot for sure. If you're in the area and love seafood, it's definitely worth trying. This place always has me coming back for the pescado zarandeado. The snook is incredibly flavorful and grilled perfectly. The caramelized onions with the spicy green salsa on a tortilla with the fish are heavenly. I agree with other reviews, though, service is very kind but quite slow. You do have to flag someone down to get checked on, which makes the experience feel a bit drawn out. They have to be reminded of things that you ask for outside of ordering. tl;dr the signature grilled snook lives up to the hype (and the eyebrow-raising price) at this Inglewood mariscos hole-in-the-wall LA has no shortage of mariscos restaurants, but one of the first to gain traction was Coni'Seafood. Vicente "Chente" Cossio opened up this spot (originally named "Mariscos Chente") in his Inglewood home in 1987 to deliver a taste of his native Nayarit-style cuisine to the neighborhood. Since then, the restaurant has changed names and been passed down to Cossio's daughter, Connie. Over the years, Coni has garnered plenty of acclaim, most notably for their pescado zarandeado, or grilled snook. Jonathan Gold even crowned Sergio Peñuelas (former chef at Coni and the so-called "Snook Whisperer") and his notoriously difficult-to-cook snook as best in the city. Coni's Inglewood location sports a comfortably gaudy atmosphere. Booths are separated by a concrete divider with a beach-y shadowbox. A custom neon sign shines from a single faux hedge wall; the remaining slate walls are decorated with framed accolades and assorted nautical knick-knacks. Twinkle lights and tropical potted plants surround the covered backyard patio. Contemporary Spanish pop echoes around the space. I visited Coni on a whim for dinner, and our party of 3 was seated immediately. We started with the Tacos de Marlin. The warm, slightly crisped tortilla and melty cheese were neutral flavors that allowed the extra-juicy marlin to shine. Next, the Aguachili featured a spiculated arrangement of head-on shrimps marinating in a citrusy broth. While the shrimp were tasty, the accompanying sauce proved to be an excellent accompaniment to the true star of the meal: the signature Pescado Zarandeado. The marinated masterpiece was lightly sprinkled with salt, sliced in half with the bone still in, and grilled to perfection. The extra-rich caramelized onions on the side added an unexpected pop. The service was friendly but mostly absent throughout the meal -- we were nearly 2 hours into a conversation, with plates all but licked clean, and still had to ask for the check. Our bill ran an eyebrow-raising $150 ($90 of which belonged to the snook), but the overall portion was generous, and the price didn't feel unreasonable. I had no idea there was a second location! There's one by my house and I love that place. Recently found out there's one by my work as well! The aguachile salsa is so spicy and delicious, it makes me sweat and salivate without fail. All of the food here is incredible and I haven't had a bad dish. I'm gonna start with parking. There's space for three cars (one for the physically disabled) right in front. the catch is that it's not a parking lot but a concrete pad with no lane or drive way meaning leaving might get hairy there on the busy Imperial Highway. If you're from LA, think of how the on ramps on the 110. You're at a stop and then you hope and pray for a break in traffic but in this case, you're reversing out onto the street. I was a walk in on a weekday evening after work. It wasn't busy when I arrived but it was a full house when I left. I sat indoors, but know there's an outdoor patio in back. It appeared to be covered but I didn't walk out to look. I just peeked through the entrance way. Service was great considering it was a one man show. The gentleman was the host, server, busser and cashier. It wasn't busy at first but by the time I left, he was going back and forth dealing with the seated customers and a few who were doing take out. But he was still Johnny on the spot. Attentive. Friendly. Knowledgeable - about the menu items. And when it got busy, he was the same with the rest of the customers. As for the food - see pics. I opted for a shrimp dish with octopus and pepper (the seasoning). Had a few beer - no liquor served. Loved the flavors of the dish. So much so that was scraping the plate for the sauce with my fork for every last bit of sauce. Chips were chips and I liked the green sauce as it had a good flavor. Not hot (for me) but went well with my beer. I enjoyed the food enough to know I'll be back. You have great accolades and accomplishments and great food, your poor workers are paying the price for your lack of leadership. For being a Friday night during Lent and only having two servers and one runner as an owner you be ashamed of yourself. You have two Michelin awards. Food was good. No tostadas for a ceviche, kind of odd, but it is what it is. The two servers are doing a great job for handling the front and back patio. Read the reviews and read the LA times articles and I made the decision to drive all the way from Encino to check this place out. I ordered the Ceviche marinero and the marlin tacos . Be warned the ceviche is out of this world. However, in all true transparency this dish will literally set your mind and body on fire . It's delicious but it's spicy hot. So if you don't or can't handle hot spicy food don't order this dish. The tacos were good little spicy too By adding cheese it just makes you taste Marlin less, the tacos is mostly cheese but they are good. The service was not bad they have an alcohol license you can order beer or a shot of tequila. It's lively place a bit loud and it's not a big restaurant they have patio outside siting as well. They receive a four star rating for two reasons. None of the servers or the menu mentioned how hot and spicy the food is. This place is quite an experience and an explosion of flavor. Upon walking in you are treated to chips and salsa. The salsa is your first clue that these people know what they are doing. You are hit with citrus and then instant spice. Those waters initially served had to go down to keep eating it. I eventually ordered some coke which fortunately was from Mexico. I heavily prefer Mexican Coca Cola made with sugar to the American Coca Cola which has been corrupted by corn syrup the flavor simply cannot be beat. We knew the assignment the grilled snook but we also tried these shrimps. The shrimps were flavored using tequila and came with rice and the heads. They were very well cooked and seasoned to perfection. You could truly taste the tequila and it imparted a very unique flavor. We were then served the whole snook. All I can say is this is much bigger than I imagined. It came with limes onions and tortilla. One person I was with described it as "It tastes like they just caught it and grilled it and reminds me of Mexico." We eventually ordered the augachile very large pieces of shrimp drowned in what is an amazing sauce. Coni's seafood is truly a unique dining experience. I also recommend the ability to excersize patience and enjoying the ambiance and the company with you. The pace is very much relaxed and not rushed I reccamene coming here if you have time and not somewhere to be after. The service is perfect the food is also very much worth the wait. Sadly, I am here to report the terrible service we received. While the servers were friendly and kind, their service was disappointing. We had to ask for things multiple times to 3 different servers and we still did not receive any of them. On top of the fact, that my campechana had zero octopus, 2 little oysters, and some shrimp. It seems like they replaced the octopus with lots of imitation grab... which I've never had in a campechana before, without asking me or letting me know. When I asked the server, she said she forgot to let me know that they were out of octopus at the moment. She said she would go check in the kitchen to see if it was ready, and would bring me some on the side. Needless to say, she never returned with the side of octopus nor to let me know it still wasn't ready. We were there for at least an hour and a half and she never even came to check if we needed more water or another drink. the restaurant was not busy. The only good thing from our dinner, was the mojarra Frita, which was tasty. and the canned coke that I had. Everything else was a dissapointment. Did I mention that we asked for the bill 3 times, to 2 different servers and they still did not bring it? We ended up going up to the counter to pay. I dont think we're coming back. Came to eat here with a group of 6 before a show at SOFI because it's not too far away. Parking for this place is nonexistent. We had to park a couple blocks away in the residential area and then walk. The restaurant is small and we were seating in an outdoor patio type area which turned out to be a little chilly because a breeze was coming in. They brought out chips and salsa and informed us the first bowl is on the house after that you have to purchase the chips/salsa. Salsa that I couldn't eat because I wanted to keep my lips intact and a few people in my party (who enjoy spicey food) tried the salsa and said it was so hot it burned their lips and ruined the taste of the food because it was so hot its was inedible. We ordered drinks, a few of us ordered margaritas. No flavor options offered just regular margies on the rocks. Well, a few moments later we were told they were out. It was a Saturday at 5pm. How are you already sold out of margaritas? The only other option was a paloma. So, I guess that's what we are getting because I didn't want beer. The drink was ok...nothing to write home about. The menu is very limited. I ordered ceviche from the appetizer list but had to ask for no sauce because the waiter told me the green salsa that they brought with the chips is what they used to mix in with the ceviche. When it came out it was very bland. All 6 of us received our food at different times and the appetizer for the table, aguaschilles came toward the end. The texture on those was inedible. They were gooey. Service wasn't bad but our waiter was not very attentive. The ceviche came out with nothing to eat it with. No chips, no crackers, no tostadas. I had to order another bowl of chips to be able to eat the ceviche. We also asked about guacamole and were told they had no avocados. A Mexican restaurant with no avocado? **October 2024: Sunday Late Afternoon Visit** My friend and I were attending a concert at the new Intuit Dome so we were in the market for something delicious in the area. ConiSeafood came highly recommended and honestly was a 5 minute drive away from the venue, so it was perfect! On our visit we saw that the vast majority of the patrons were hispanic and spoke Spanish, so I already had a good feeling about it restauant. There are two different dining options - one inside and one with a semi-covered patio. We opted to stay indoors as the air was more consistent. We also say many articles and awards around the front-house. We sat down and were given two paper menus. After contemplating on the selection we decided to go with a the Pescado Zarandeado and Smoked Marlin Tacos. During our visit the smallest fish they had was 1.5 lbs ($60), which it probably enough for 3-4 adults. One pound would have been enough but we'll know for next time. The fish was super soft and it had a nice smokiness to it. Paired with the crisp cucumber and sweet caramelized onions and it was a heavenly meal. I do think if you take the leftovers home it does get a little bit saltier, but when served fresh it's perfect! The Smoked Marlin tacos ($23 for three) were also very good and has a unique flavor profile that other fish tacos that I've had. It's definitely good on its own, but was outshined by the Pescado Zarandeado. Service is very slow, so don't plan to be in a rush when visiting. A mariscos or seafood spot in Inglewood that specializes in Nayarit style food. I've been here twice now and each time, I have come in that sweet spot between lunch and dinner so it wasn't too crowded (around 4-5pm), so each time the vibe here was pretty relaxed and chill with some families and a couple or two. Not sure if it was just because it wasn't busy, but the folks have been friendly and helpful each time I was here as well. Just great Mexican seafood in a laid back atmosphere. One of the visits related to a Yelp event, so I will focus on the items I got on my other visit and/or the items I ended ordering myself: Camarones borrachos or drunken shrimp: delicious, garlicky sauteed shrimp that had a nice kick and served with rice. I loved this dish especially served with a Modelo to wash it down. Mojarra frita or whole fried tilapia: fried perfectly and this was a sub since I was dining solo vs their specialty (whole snook). Served with plenty of limes and rice for that zest. Reminds me of a whole fried fish dish in Vietnamese cuisine, actually. I really enjoyed this and there was enough for a second meal at home, haha. A dish that I have been wanting to order, but has evaded me each time is the pescado zarandeado. A dish that is comprised of an entire snook that is butterflied and grilled, which I think is their specialty. I haven't been able to order because the size and price looks like it would at least take a two person team and I've only come here solo. It's definitely a shareable plate. Parking - there's a tiny lot out front, but of the times I've been, there's plenty of street parking nearby. It is a high speed and somewhat busy stretch of road, so just be aware and take that into consideration when trying to parallel park. read more
