SOL Mexican Cocina was amazing from the moment we walked through the doors! The place was packed! My family had such a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and attentive, the restaurant was beautiful, and the whole place had such a relaxing vibe. Let's start with the chips. They are made fresh and ENDLESS, which can be dangerous because you just keep eating them! The salsa was delicious and definitely don't skip the guacamole! The food is inspired by the coastal cooking of Baja, and everything we tried was delicious! My husband ordered the SOL Steak Fajitas, which came with borracho black beans and red rice. The steak was cooked exactly how he wanted it and seasoned perfectly. Definitely a win for him! I ordered the Chile Verde and it was SOOO good! Seriously, so much flavor. We also tried the chicken tortilla soup, which was absolutely bursting with flavor. My daughter had the steak street tacos and really enjoyed them. They were filling and had plenty of flavor. Honestly, everything we tried was mouthwatering, delicious, and satisfying. This wasn't just a quick meal; we really enjoyed the whole experience. The atmosphere is another reason we loved it. You can sit indoors or outside, and the outdoor seating is covered, and we really enjoyed it. It was nice for the summer days. They had good music playing in the background without it being overwhelming, and there is a large bar area with plenty of room. It looked like it would also be a great place to come with a larger group and definitely for a date night! Okay, one thing to know is PARKING! Street parking is free, but finding a spot can be difficult. Save yourself the headache and use the parking garage. There is a small fee, but SOL validates parking, which was really nice. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, we loved this place. Everything we tried was delicious, and we were literally talking about going back again the NEXT DAY. I used to really love this place, but it fell flat for me during my most recent visit. We were a party of 9 and arrived at 8p on a Saturday (with a reservation). The service was good, not great. They were extremely busy, so our party size, coupled with the crowd probably has an impact. For appetizers, we tried the flautas, esquites, guac, and ceviche. Everything was okay, but I remember i used to fell blown away. However, the complimentary bean dip was amazing! A plethora of entrees came to the table; branzino (excellent), short rib plates (okay), burrito (just okay), burria tacos (meh), and maybe a few others. We tried a few of the margaritas but barely tasted the alcohol. The frosé, however was the highlight for me I forgot to take pics but I may check out HH again to see if this really a done deal for me. read more

Excellent service and great food! I sat at the bar and ordered the goat cheese enchiladas, and they were perfect. The Mexican rice was delicious, and I normally don't even eat beans, but these were exceptional! Everything was flavorful and well prepared, and the service at the bar was excellent. Because it has been incredibly hot and humid in Los Angeles these last few weeks, I would say I'm taking a star off because we were seated indoors and even though I know the air-conditioning was probably cranking, we were still sweating, just sitting in our booth. Our waitress arrived promptly and maybe too promptly, as we hadn't even had a chance to peruse the menu. She asked us whether we wanted drinks so we ordered water and a drink each. About five minutes later a water came around and delivered a basket of tostadas and a dish each of their salsa and their black bean dip, which were all very tasty. Our waitress came back a few minutes later and we ordered the Taste of Baja and Boyfriend ordered the Carnitas Chili Verde. Both of our dishes were very good, with no complaints except about the heat and plus we were sitting very close to the kitchen, so I can only imagine how the poor kitchen staff must have been suffering!! Came here with a group of friends for a lunch on a sunday. Ordered a drink at the bar while we waited for our reservation table to be prepared. Had a watermelon froze. AMAZING!! They placed chips and salsa out for us to enjoy. Salsa was flavored well. The chips were toastada shells that you break into chips. At the table I ordered chicken taquitos. Came with three. Enjoyed them. Had lettuce, crema and avocado on them. Very delicious. Restrooms were very clean. Decor is nice. Had tons of seating. It was really hot that day and wish that the AC was on higher. I had to use my fan to keep cool. Also, Parking was a little tough to find. Very limited street parking, but there is a structure in the back with a little walk to get there. read more

I've been coming to Sol for many years now 6+). . It's generally a great place to meet friends and work colleagues. The food is tasty and well prepared. The servers are super friendly and welcoming. Today I hosted two of my work colleagues for lunch our bill was $138 and I noticed there was a $5.98 service charge on our bill. I asked the waitress what the service charge was. She didn't know. I asked if it was to contribute to the employees healthcare expenses (which I would support)! She said that the service fee was implemented during Covid to cover additional costs but hasn't been removed since. She informed me that the employees don't get the service fee monies - corporate does. HUH? Why is SOL charging customers a service fee 6'years past Covid? Wouldn't it be better to just include any additional fees into a higher menu item price? I'll support your employees because they work hard and earn their paychecks. But don't charge your customers random service fees. read more

We celebrated my daughters graduation here and the food and service were amazing. We tried various dishes including the Branzino . Grilled Octopus, queso Birria tacos and Barbacoa short ribs. They were all terrific. Their drinks were on point with the jcanrarito and sol margarita rhe faves. The only negative was they ran out of churros and tres leeches which was disappointing. Booked SOL for a team holiday lunch and had a great experience. I've been to this Playa location before and it's always solid. The guacamole and chips are a must, and we also tried the Hot & Raw Tropical Ceviche, which comes with delicious sweet potato & red beet chips. I ordered the SOL fajitas with chipotle shrimp, perfect if you like a little spicy. They come with rice and beans or coleslaw. A coworker had the agave shrimp fajitas and liked those as well. Drink menu is good too, I had the berry mocktail and it was refreshing. Service was attentive even though it was busy with other large groups, and it never felt crowded. I've been here several times and just realized I never left a review--long overdue! This place consistently delivers excellent Mexican food, delicious drinks, and a welcoming ambiance. My usual order is the shrimp dorado with rice and beans, plus shrimp taquitos and plenty of chips and salsa. Everything is always flavorful and fresh. My go-to drink is the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim--perfectly balanced and smoky every time. Service is always great, too. The staff and bartenders are friendly and attentive. While the environment gives an upscale feeling and the menu is vast, the quality of the food, service and overall experience was only slightly better than mediocre. It felt more like a big chain restaurant than a unique Mexican spot. Their complimentary tortilla chips were really delicious and I appreciated that they were whole, so you know exactly how much you're eating. I also enjoyed the salsa, which was smoky and spicy, tasted freshly made, and wasn't too chunky. We also had the grilled corn, which was great with the creamy sauce and fun to watch them cut in front of us, though it hurt to see so much corn left on the cob. The Shrimp Dorado Taco at $11 was a disappointment. While the size was slightly larger than your typical street taco and the chipotle sauce had a nice kick, there was hardly any shrimp (3?) and the mango salsa was off. The pieces were way too small, almost minced, and they didn't taste ripe, so there was no sweetness to balance the spice and salt. The Short Ribs Barbacoa had super tender beef that fell apart easily, but it was very salty and really needed the sweet potato, which was caramelized with sugar, to help neutralize. The rice and beans were nothing special and the guacamole didn't have enough lime in it. The tortillas for this also didn't seem homemade, but rather a stereotypical supermarket purchase. I can't begin to express my disappointment in my last experience at Sol Cantina - I've probably eaten there a good 10 times and I may never again. The food has always been good, I even recommended this place to a few friends - I won't be recommending this place again. My major issue is with the management. If you don't have good managers, then everything else will eventually fall apart. This goes back to Christmas Eve 2025, we celebrate with family on Christmas day so we decided to catch a movie and drop by Sol for dinner and it literally ruined my night. Food was awful...starting from the chips to the soup and the entree. The lack of care the staff showed was shocking, especially since the restaurant was quite empty. The server we had was nice but I'm not sure if he isn't proactive enough but the manager never came around when I mentioned to him how disappointed I was with my meal. The chips tasted like it was fried in old oil - not sure if it was just sitting too long but it was gross. I've never experience this type of chips in my life. Then the chicken tortilla soup was so chickeney...you know when you use leftover chicken and sometimes it has a weird flavor, this is what I tasted. I told the server it was unedible. My 2 taco dinner wasn't good either - the rice was hard, the beans were flavorless and the tacos were whatever. I called the waiter over to express my disappointment in my meal and asked if they have a new chef. He laughed and said the sous chef was working that night, the head chef was off for the Eve. He said he will let the manager know. He came back to tell me the manager will speak to the chef...never checked on us. Did not provide any credit or apology for the awful food. On my way out...I saw the hostess and manager just chatting away. The restaurant had about 5 tables full, why in the world would the manager just be standing around rather then walking to check on their customers and wish them a happy holiday and definitely should have stopped by my table since I complained not once (chips), but twice (everything else). Met a friend here for lunch and went for their lunch special--great value and very fresh flavors. The restaurant wasn't as busy for an afternoon and the place was beautiful. I had the carne asada tacos (tender, juicy, loaded with pico) and my friend had the chicken tacos (good, but could use a little more kick). We shared one taco each of each others. Both came with rice and black beans. We split the Mexican street corn and wow--sweet, smoky, creamy, with just the right spice. Don't skip out on it! Easily my favorite bite of the day. Not only is the food fresh and the drinks are spot on, but at night the ambiance is very chill and romantic. I highly recommend finding a spot outside next to the fireplace. Decided to try SOL again for my birthday today, and I think that my 3.7 rating stands. Chips and salsa is top tier for sure. I selected steak fajitas as my entree and was not impressed. The flavor of the meat was there but the steak definitely has a weird gummy-like consistency (which had nothing to do with the way it was prepared). I'm used to a fajitas being served on a cast iron platter or skillet. SOL's version was served in a large deep bowl. Veggies ended up sweating out at the bottom of the bowl and they were too soupy. Our server Diego was amazing, attentive and took very good care of us. Watermelon margaritas very good. Overall this place is okay, but not a regular. read more

just wanted to start by saying how much we LOVE brunch at your place. Me, my wife and daughter go often. However, we don't think you guys were prepared well for Mothers day. We couldn't order coffee, most of the menu items were not available and we waited over an hour for mediocre food. And what was more disappointing, it's very hard to mess up a torta, but stale bread with the eggs over cooked kind of killed it. We were not asked if we had a preference for seating. The hostess lead us to a table outside. After seating us and handing us our menus she walked away. Our waiter disappeared after we got our food didn't show back up for over 30 minutes. After requesting the check he was gone again and Never returned. We had to flag down another waiter who was kind enough to help us. Our food was good but everything else ruined our anniversary dinner. Partner got the Asada burrito and it was mostly beans and I got chipotle shrimp fajitas which was good. Would I go back? The food just was not very flavorful and fairly bland. In a town full of so much great Mexican and Latin cuisine, it's rare to find a place where the flavors are so muted. It could be that this is a place that's geared towards people that normally can't handle authentic ethnic flavors or spices. The ambiance is not bad either. Here is everything we tried: 4/5 - El Vocán: chicken & red bell peppers sautéed in spicy arbol sauce, scallions, en cazuela under a blanket of melted Oaxaca cheese. Probably the best of the dishes, but still not amazing. 2.5/5 - Chile Poblano Relleno con Ellote: roasted & fried chile poblanos, grilled corn, calabacitas, goat & mexican cheeses, kale, ahogada sauce, crema, and cilantro. Barely had any flavor at all, but the corn was a nice touch inside the chile. This was probably the most mild of all the dishes. 3/5 - Carne Asada Taco Plate: 3 carne asada tacos with grilled with garlic, pico de gallo, avocado sauce, cilantro, and onions. Pretty average, nothing noteworthy. 4/5 - Kid's Chicken Quesadilla: not bad, the kids seemed to enjoy it. 3/5 - Kid's Chicken Tenders: pretty standard, nothing noteworthy.
