I can't say I'm a regular here, but every now and then (or a couple of years) I'll be in the area during breakfast hours and will stop buy for a breakfast burrito. I've been on a bit of a breakfast burrito kick and have been slowly trying all the popular spots to varying degrees of contentedness. What I should have been doing all along was going to Maria's. I'll be the first to agree that fancy isn't always better and of course healthier IS healthier, but I'm not eating a breakfast burrito too be healthy. That's what fruit, plain yogurt, and chia seeds are for. Maria's doesn't use any healthy oils, pasture fresh eggs, fancy potatoes, aiolis, or specialty meats. What they do have is 3-meats, melty cheese, textural contrast, and a good, spicy salsa. All that for $10. Ten dollars. An unforeseen delay at the airport meant we couldn't arrive until much later than our order. I called to let them know we were still coming and they kindly offered to reheat our burritos for us upon arrival. I am giving Maria's a 4, but it is really more of a 3.5. Good hard shell beef tacos. Rice and beans are delicious. Beans aren't oily/greasy like a lot of refried beans. Taquitos are decent. I prefer them without the glob of guacamole all over them. Veggies atop the food are very fresh. The Horchata is amazing. I've only tried it a couple times from a couple other places and both times, I poured it down the sink. Maria's Horchata is what I believe authentic Horchata should taste like. I ordered Jamaica, because I LOVE Jamaica. Maria's Jamaica is the worst I've ever had. Watered down, not enough hibiscus tea taste and no sweetness. Every Mexican establishment I've purchased Jamaica from makes delicious Jamaica that is sweet, but not sugary sweet. This was a definite miss for me. Also, food did not come with tortilla chips, which is surprising. I have never ordered from a Mexican restaurant where tortilla chips did not accompany your meal. Apparently, you have to pay for them separately. No thank you. Considering the portion sizes aren't that great, tortilla chips should be included with each order. I was craving tacos and ans this has been on my list to try. I ordered 3 asada tacos and 1 can coke. I hadn't eaten all day so I was anxious to take my first bite. Usually when you're hungry almost anything taste great. Well not these. I was extremely disappointed. The tortillas were warm but didn't taste like they cooked them in oil or anything.
