My wife and I each had very similar experiences - we went in for an eye exam, he looked at our eyes, analyzed our vision, and then was able to extrapolate a LOT about our lifestyles, personalities, how we work and learn just based on our vision. My only issue with Dr. G is that I didn't start seeing him years ago. I am a soft lense wearer. During the height of the 2020 pandemic, my eyes started giving me problems (itching, tearing, etc.) My usual optometrist's office was closed so a family member (a retired OD in Fla) guessed from the symptoms that it was Giant Papilary Conjunctivitis, suggested OTC drops but wanted me to have it looked at by a Dr. ASAP. I found Square in the Eye on my insurers website and booked an appt with Dr. Goldstein. He was able to see me almost immediately and confirmed that it was a really bad case of GPC. He put me on a regimen of Rx drops and strict orders NO CONTACTS until things got better! The meds worked and he gave me a new Rx for daily wear lenses, and (after a very thorough exam, a new pair of glasses). Square also has an excellent staff---highly recommend them. read more

Fortunately for me two members of the staff told me not to make my sunglasses until I was sure that I liked the regular glasses that Dr. Goldstein made for me. I did not and I do not! I am wearing progressives for many years. I have never had a problem. These do not work on any level! The reading is particularly poor and Dr. Goldstein's answer to that was that he make me a separate pair of reading glasses. The reason for progressives is not to need more than one pair of glasses. I do not have a particularly strong prescription so there should not have been a problem. I did ask for an extremely expensive lens. If that lens was not a good fit for me he should've said some thing. He did not! I think the lens is great but that the prescription is wrong and that the glasses were made incorrectly. Dr. Goldstein told me to go elsewhere get another exam, of course that means paying again, and if it's different from his he will remake the glasses. If you are over 50 this is the last place you should go! He is extremely condescending. He repeats his opinion numerous times and does not listen to what you say. The above being the most important I will go on to say there is a very small selection of frames and the staff seems very nice but you get the feeling it isn't always genuine. read more

Good start, bad ending. The good: I went in on a Saturday afternoon for a prescription reading on my new glasses. They were honest and direct. The bad: I scheduled a comprehensive eye exam and went in at 11:30am. Lots of irrelevant personal questions paperwork questions. What's your address and age? What do you do for living? What's your email and phone number? The worst: The $149 exam which took less than 15 mins was a rip off. I asked the front desk lady if there's discount, she said: "no unfortunately, we don't." Then asked to email me my prescription, she again gave the generic response: "unfortunately, we don't." I walked away with two PAPER COPIES of my prescription. Unbelievable! If you like privacy taken away, and money robbed, this is the place to go! read more

Impressed! I highly recommend! I was greeted by a friendly and accommodating man when I called to make an appointment. I was greeted by another friendly, informative and kind young woman when I came in for my eye exam and reviewed my insurance coverage, yes they take eye insurance!. Dr. Goldstein was kind, took his time to get to know me as a person, and clearly a very good and thorough doctor during my exam! He was also notably kind to his staff when speaking to them and seems to generally want a positive atmosphere. When leaving another young woman working with several customers at once was smiling and handling everyone and very helpful. No pressure to buy anything like some places do either. I have been going to Dr Goldstein since 2006 for my eyecare. Initially he was extremely friendly and portrayed a genuine attitude- My most previous visit to Dr Goldstein was an extreme disappointment. In the past, the Dr had prescribed me a certain type that did not work for me (problems with my eyes), that he then prescribed again during this visit. I commented on the fact that I had previously had problems with this lense, but wasnt sure if it was the same lense sinceI had obviously assumed he had checked my medical records.. Still, I was told to give them a try. Sure enough, I had problems within the 3rd week and called back to switch- only to find out I would be charged and extra 90 dollars for a "re-fitting," which is absolutely ridiculous considering a) I had the exact same problems with this lense in the past, and b)I wasnt even asked which type of contact I would like during the exam OR what I had been wearing for the past 3 years while abroad . I did not understand how this could be- so I waited for over a week (after numerous calls) for the Dr to call me back himself . I received a call from the secretary saying there was no need for the Dr to call me directly, because that was the charge and there was no question about it. I stil insisted on speaking with him- I really assumed, since he had been so nice to mein visits- he would be reasonable, but when I finally asked him the reason for charging me for something I so obviously shouldnt be charged for he responded by letting me know his time is not for free, It could have been another reason my eyes were acting up, not necessarily the lenses. I was literally shocked and genuinely felt scammed. I switched to another Doctor who is a million times more accomodating and understanding. Within an hour, she had re fitted me and sent me out wearing the contacts I had wanted all along for $50 (even though I was a new patient- this price was out of courtesy.) I would never go back or recommend this practice to anyone. Patient loyalty and customer care is not a consideration here. read more

I made an appointment today with Dr. Goldstein as I was looking for a new eye doctor and he was in network. He saw me right on time for my appointment and the appointment lasted about 45 minutes. I thought he was incredibly professional and personable and also thorough in his exam and willing to answer as many questions as I had. You can tell he's been doing this for a long time. Both Dr. Goldstein and his staff were straight forward about cost and everything went very seamlessly. They sell glasses in the front part of the shop as well as contact lenses (he seems to have every brand of contact imaginable). He's definitely a great choice. read more

Outstanding gem. Six stars for outstanding and efficient service, professionalism, personalized and customized assessment, evaluation, and recommendations of vision needs from both Dr Goldstein and the employee Miguel. All that with some personality and wit. They completely assessed understood and addressed my needs perfectly. I had my appointment on among the most stressed days of my life and I left the office with a smile thanks to Miguel and Dr. Goldstein. I hardly ever wear glasses, mostly just evening driving which I almost never do, but this was one of the checkups on my list and wanted to get a pair of glasses since I misplaced my other ones. Dr. Goldstein in addition to the typical exam using modern, updated optical machines, also assessed my needs based on work, hobbies, computer and phone use, how I actually most use and need my vision. Based on all that as well as my preferences, he found my perfect long distance and reading vision (Neither perfect nor horrible) then perfectly and succinctly outlined my vision shortfalls, the handful of options, what he would most likely recommend then also what he thought I would prefer. Dead on. He got it and didn't try to oversell or overexplain. From there Miguel selected a few glasses he thought I would like and then within one minute trying those on knew which pair was perfect for me. Done and done. Glasses arrived less than a week later. Above and beyond service from both, who had my back on a horrific day when I didn't have my phone after 20 hours in stores trying to get my phone running and all its data - as a result I Also didn't have my definite appointment times, contacts etc. - I felt I didn't have my head on straight but Miguel was so friendly and confirmed not only this appointment but helped me confirm my next one and was really above and beyond with service . They had me out in an efficient manner . Any Dr and staff who make you feel more relaxed leaving their office on a worst most stressed day, and whose professional service also stands out and with memorable details of that service when you have a million other things to do and on your mind, that speaks volumes. The reception staff was friendly. However the doctor was a bit pushy and urged me to buy new brands of contact lenses even though I preferred my current brand. The exam was extremely rushed and the new prescription I got from their office repeatedly gave me headaches. When I told them I did not like my new prescription (and preferred my old prescription), he told me I "have been winging it" up until I came to him. I ended up going to a different optometrist because I did not trust Dr. Goldstein's prescription. read more

Dr Ron at Square In The Eye is the best! If you're in need of an eye exam, glasses, contacts, etc. - Dr Ron is your man. He's knowledgeable as well as pleasant. He has a great sense of humor, which makes you feel at ease while you are getting your eye exam. He will discuss different options with you and gives you the opportunity to try different contact lens samples before you make a final decision as to which ones work best for you. He will gladly answer any questions you might have and takes the time to discuss your medical history, etc. His staff is also very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. The shop carries a wonderful selection of high quality eyeglass frames to choose from. Last time I got new glasses, I had my heart set on these lovely black Prada frames, but they didn't have the exact model in stock. They were more than happy to special order them for me. It took them less than a week to get them in and they were even happy to refund me if I hadn't liked them! I just went to Dr. Goldstein since I recently moved to the neighborhood and needed a close eye doctor. I was blown away by his assessment. It was over the top and way more detail than any other doctor I have been to. Based on my prescription, he went into a Meyers/Briggs like assessment of how my brain processes information, explaining why I do the job i do, how i probably studied in college, etc. It was truly fascinating. when i initially came here, i thought the service was pretty good. the doctor gave the exam and the service was fine. it's such a hassle to switch places that already has your records so i tend to stick to one spot with these things. however, when i came back the following year, the doctor had almost the exact same conversation with me that we had a year ago. asking the same questions and giving the same responses. Same thing the following year, so you get the feeling it's not very genuine. Also, the doctor can be a bit condescending, particularly if you question something he says. The staff is sometimes nice but also sometimes very rude (same people), so either they are moody or just not very genuine. read more

I've seen Doctor Goldstein twice for annual eye exams and I honestly couldn't imagine a better place to go. I've had the pleasure of dealing with his office staff, namely Miguel, both times for pre and post exam things such as orders and glasses-tweaking and he's a total peach who knows how to do his job very well with both professionalism and friendliness. Doctor Goldstein himself is likewise a peach, who wastes no time in getting you in, diagnosing whatever is happening with your eyes, prescribing the perfect lenses and sending you on your way. He takes time to ask questions about every single aspect of your life that might have any impact on your vision and thus draws some very good conclusions. I went to Dr. Goldstein because he takes my insurance and the Yelp reviews were all excellent.My experience with Dr. Goldstein was terrible. He was late and didn't apologize. He rushed my exam and didn't listen to a word I said. I ended up going to a "real" opthomologist and paid for it, as I did not trust Dr. Goldstein. His conclusion was that I have small cataracts ( too small to operate on), and that was the source of my vision problems.I knew this wasn't true. His answer to the cataracts was " Don't die! The Dr. I saw today, confirmed that the cataracts were not a problem and said that the prescription was wrong I would not reccommend Dr. Goldstein to my worst enemy.. read more

- Very difficult staff, hard to communicate with them, even for simple questions. - When taking the initial pre-eye exam, technology malfunctioned and the staff tried several times to fix it. When it was finally working, it didn't work as expected. - Dr. Goldstein rushed through the eye exam and if I took longer than 0.5 seconds to respond, he skipped it and moved on. How is that an accurate analysis? - Dr. Goldstein also insulted me personally because of my age. - Definitely won't be coming back, unfortunately. Worst eye doctor! Kept saying "don't worry we'll find a solution, we have options" Messed up my prescription, I had to go to another doctor and get a new pair with the correct prescription. When I confronted him, he said he didn't make the lenses, Eye med did, so I should take it up with them. Eye med followed his prescription and made the lense to his specification, cannot hold them responsible. Never going back and neither should you. read more

I came in for a simple eye exam. The doctor is proficient but talks fast and is extremely rushed. However, the one star is due to an extremely unprofessional staff, who provided terrible guidance on my benefits, attempted to over-charge me (fraud much?), and even after correcting, expressed no apology. They are either incompetent or unethical. Finally, they tried to push their over-priced lenses on me, assuring me my benefits wouldn't cover online lense orders. A quick visit to 1800contacts proved them wrong again and saved me lots of money and time. Nice People - Not Helpful. I had gone to this office several times in the past. At the last visit, I was sold a pair of glasses, and told they were virtually indestructible. Nothing is, an dafter a time, they broke. I went back - was told a) they were out of warranty (which I expected), b) they didn't have frames that would fit the lenses and c) - well, there was no c. I explained I needed glasses asap since I had to drive in several hours, and the only response was - You don't have a spare pair? They could not have cared less - no offer to help, no suggestion of somewhere else to go - nothing. I ended up at Lens Crafters - highly over priced, but at least they solved my problem. Result - one lost customer. Never going back to this place. I don't know what happened, but pleasant attitude does not compensate for competent asstance. read more

Dr. Goldstein examined my 9 yr. old about 1 month ago. She has been having learning difficulties since she starting school in kindergarten. We have had her eyes tested as well as multiple educational evaluations. We visited Dr. Goldstein on the advice of another parent. In the space of 45 minutes Dr. Goldstein diagnosis a vision problem that had to do with eye aiming and something called visual coordination. My daughter has had a new pair of glasses on for 3 weeks now and we have started eye exercises at home. It's only 3 weeks and we see a world of difference. The teacher picked up the change in less than a week. The energy in our house has improved so much it's hard to believe. This doctor not only got a handle on a problem that was punishing us but, was able to explain it so we all understood the situation. He is the greatest...I can't say it enough! I picked this place, as usual, because it is a block from my apartment and because they take my insurance- VSP, but the Yelp reviews didn't hurt. So I thought I would do my part now in helping others pick. Everything about this place is PERFECT. The staff, the office itself, and of course- Dr. Goldstein. I have sent 4 people there and they all agree. It is just a pleasant experience. They are open late so you can go after work. They are kind and helpful with making appointments and working with insurance. They have a great selection of both cool and conservative frames and Goldstein is genuine.
