Three of us met there for lunch today, and it was delicious. Two of us had the Chicken and Waffles: thick, tender waffles topped with beautifully seasoned fried chicken thighs, then doused tableside by Kimberly with house-made maple-jalapeño syrup. Melting butter and scattered pecans added just the right crunch and richness. I also tried the blue corn grits--creamy, savory, and delicious. Our third guest had the Eggs Benedict with collard greens: perfectly poached eggs, silky hollandaise, and greens that were absolutely "grandma good." Drinks included a great sangria and spicy Bloody Marys, and dessert was carrot cake with homemade vanilla ice cream--golden yellow, egg-rich, custardy, and speckled with real vanilla. The hash browns were crispy and soft on the inside. The hot chocolate was perfect. The cost of the meal was right around $20, with the meal itself around $16. I'm from the DC area, so this was super reasonable. Worth it! The server's name is Naomi, and she was really attentive. Drinks were quickly refilled. Overall, accolades on the service. There's hot & cold prepared Amish foods and continental foods; butcher; dairy store; green grocer; bulk dried & jarred goods; and arts & crafts--all in one place. Here's my favorites: Smucker's Pretzels: Original pretzels and smokey cheezers (pigs-in-a-blanket). Made fresh throughout the day. Stoltzbus BBQ: Fried chicken, smoked ribs, and beef stew. Esh's Produce: Any fruit or vegetable from here is excellent. A & R Bakery: The cheesecake offerings are impressive; there's individual slices, half and whole cheesecakes. There's literally a wall of all types of cakes and pies, along with multiple shelves filled with cookies, donuts, breads, baked treats. There's plenty of free parking and public restrooms. Near closing time, local folks come pouring in here to get dinner and it becomes animated. Open 3 days a week; only operates during daytime hours. Vendors begin to put things away about 30 minutes ahead of end of business. Don't miss out by showing up at the last minute.
