I had found four puppies on the road, and they tried to tell me that they could not take the puppies because I live outside of their "jurisdiction" which doesn't add up to me because I live in Conroe. I had called another shelter. They told me that that wasn't the case and then when I got to this shelter, they told me that policy has changed under new management and of course they could not provide the policy change because that would've been too easy so now rather than an animal shelter, taking dogs and saving their lives I have to go out of my way to do their job. I would not recommend. Do better Conroe animal shelter jeez. To be clear before the Karen's come at i have no problem taking care of these puppies. The facility itself is clean. I adopted a cat, they offered food and toys,litter. She had her spay surgery the day before I brought her home. All was going well until I saw a round oozing spot on her back. Took her to my vet, received cortisone shot and some spray. Took her back to shelter for booster, their vet diagnosed her with ringworm, and let me know the vigorous steps, he said it would be difficult and he was right, I tried everything, it was to much for a 70yr old. I had to return her over a month later. My issue is, it's easy to check for ringworm why was it not done before adoption? Or did they know beforehand? I never would have adopted her had I known. read more

I think the shelter sells their little dogs to rescues that cost anywhere from five to $1000 and then they must give a cut to the shelter because for two years I have looked for a small dog in the shelter and I've never found one but the rescues they have plenty of them read more

Got a lot of runaround in my latest adoption but I would still recommend this place other others. When I called for a particular dog I was told something new each time but once I showed up and kept checking, they worked with me to get our newest family member. very easy to do community service here. apple maps says 10am but i'm pretty sure they open at 8am. they have a lot of volunteers on weekends, and once there's nothing left for you to do you kinda have to leave. i noticed there's less and less things to do towards 1pm then you're kind of scrambling for a task. they clean a lot in the mornings so there's plenty to do. you don't have to fill anything out until you get there, but make sure your crime is approved. bring close toed shoes, long pants, and dress for the weather, but have short sleeves or roll them up when you get to work. there's indoor work and outdoor work be ready for both. they offer rain boots for working with water, but some have holes in them so i brought my own. also bring a piece of paperwork from court, something with your cause number on it. you don't have to touch any poop with your bare hands, gloves are available and they use poop scoopers & long bristled brush stick things for cleaning. if you're not strong maybe don't take a dog for a walk unless you're confident they won't drag you around. put in some headphones and do whatever you can, everybody's chill and you can pet the dogs once in awhile. read more

THEY NEED NEW MANAGEMENT. The people at the front desk are a JOKE. VERY RUDE, DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR, UNPROFESSIONAL, assholes. The staff does not care AT ALL and they were super rude to me, some refused to even talk to me. Not sure how they expect to get the pets adopted when they treat people like nuisances, I'm definitely not coming back. I also have heard a few horror stories from acquaintances who volunteered/worked here. This shelter is HORRIBLE and I pray for the animals that are stuck here, They seem like the kind of people that put down animals for fun. I also worked a Pizza Hut delivery job for a while and delivered pizza here a few times, and whenever these people would order delivery, they would THROW the cash at me. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO FIRE EVERYONE HERE AND GET A WHOLE NEW STAFF. I went over to the Montgomery animal shelter, they were super nice and I got a dog the same day. You can be nice and work at an animal shelter! I know the job is miserable, but the attitude of the management here is NOT helping animals get adopted. They are doing the opposite!! Don't even take animals to this shelter who knows how bad they treat them in there I went today with my mother around 12 because she found some kittens without a momma by her house yesterday evening and as soon as we arrived they were so rude this girl with short blonde hair opened the door and told me to put the kittens back in the car and it was really hot then when we went back in there she was looking at us up and down being snappy and asking us questions with a bad attitude and there was a guy next to her so unprofessional just looking at us and laughing I guess because I was translating to my mother that doesn't speak English and also they there was another lady in there look like she was the manager just looking at us in a bad way and not saying anything to the girl treating us bad so I just left that place and took the kittens because if they have that attitude who know how bad they are going to treat those babies read more

If you want the dog or cat that you just adopted to die this is the place to go !!!! After adopting our dog we waited over 3 months for him to be neutered by the shelter. After he was Neutered and I picked him up I noticed a string hanging from his crotch area it was short so I figured it was part of his sutures. Well not even an hour later I noticed a smell of infection but I thought maybe it's just something that they cleaned him with mixing with some remnants of his fluids. Turn to 2 days later my husband rushing him to the vet and him having a horrible and section with an incredible risk of sepsis after over a $1000 we are still not in the clear and won't know if he will be okay for at least a week. My mother in law whos has worked with shelters and rescue groups for years believes that most likely a VET TECH or an UNLICENSED VET performed the surgey and most likely did not use sterile equipment as acxording to the shelter they were going to be doing "60 spay/neuters in a day. Unfortunately she did not really know anything of this shelter we got our dog from, however now that I know I want to warn everybody because had we known ahead of time or had a clue we would not have adopted from them or gone through them to have him neutered. This isn't even about what we had to pay our vet to save his life this is about the fact that our baby that we love was basically BUTCHERED and put through HELL and now we are doing everything we can to save his life. Today on my way home I noticed something odd on the side of 105 near 1314. A little black puppy dog head peeking over the top of a trash bin. Whether someone put the pooch in the trash bin or it somehow managed to get itself in there on its own, I don't know. I picked up the seemingly abandoned dog and Googled my way to the Conroe animal shelter. After locating the shelter, I brought the dog inside and there were a lot of employees and volunteers on hand. I explained the situation, gave them my info, and they happily accepted the shaky little jitterbug. I'm so glad to have found this animal shelter and that they were open and willing to giving this little furbaby a new lease on life :) read more

Took my cat here to get spayed and I called in the afternoon to check in her, since I wouldn't be able to see her that night. I was put on hold while one of the staff members did an adoption and I was okay with that. I got my dog and cat from this shelter. I had positive experience both times with both adoptions. I have been to other shelters all over Houston and this has definitely been the best one. The animals are well taken care of they are up to date on their shots get dewormed if you get a kitten they will neuter or spay for no extra cost! read more

I hate to say this, but my experience at this shelter was horrible. These folks are too strict when it comes to adopting a dog or cat that it's nearly impossible to bring home a furry friend on the same day. I have a feeling they're very racist as well because, on my first visit there, I was thinking about adopting a cute little German Shepherd and they had let me know that if I had other pets in my home that I would need to present their vaccination records before moving forward with the adoption. So I returned with the records a few days later only to find out that they would still not help me because they felt the dog would not get along with my dogs. As a dog owner, I found the situation all too suspicious because I have 5 dogs in my home and none of them were accustomed to being around other dogs when I first adopted them, so I assumed they were being racist towards me and my family. I find these people very disrespectful to turn us down like that, but also every other client of a different race who simply wanted to bring home some new furry friends. Again, these people are so racist that I would not recommend anyone looking to adopt a furry friend to do any business with them whatsoever. They don't deserve our attention and should be shut down and have these poor animals sent to a better, healthier shelter. I had to adopt my newest dog from a shelter across town and even they weren't asking so much of me as a proud pet owner and found all these excuses to be rather suspicious. If I could give this place a lower review I would. The customer service is trash, I can't stand anyone on staff due to the fact that no one knew what was going on first of all. Secondly I adopted my beautiful baby puppy barely 2 weeks ago before I found out she already had distemper. However when I noticed signs early on of her being sick I brought her in, after 30 seconds of "examination" they came back with no info other than that it was just kennel cough and that she'd be fine. I was given medicine for her and that was that. After about a week and a half of her not getting better I brought her in once more after she developed more symptoms such as tremors, and chattering her teeth constantly. The employees the entire time were rude and snippy while we were trying to figure out what we needed to do, finally they told us it's either surrender her and put her down or treatment that was for one expensive but also not a guaranteed recovery for her. The people that work here obviously can't do their job what so ever and honestly I feel should be shut down. Distemper is a highly contagious sickness in dogs that can lay dormant up to 3 weeks, so with that being said not only my other dogs but anywhere else she has been could in turn be contaminated including the other dogs in this shelter. But hey they wouldn't know or care to tell you before you leave with your new lil friend until it's a bit too late. read more

Threatened euthanize my dog! Our dog escaped our backyard last Friday. Saturday morning we went to this shelter to look for him and he wasn't there. We tried to give his information to them with our original adoption paperwork, from this shelter. They were uninterested in taking our paperwork or contact information in case he was dropped off, and advised for us to register a lost pet online. So that's what we did. I found him online this morning, so went to get him. They had him registered as the wrong breed, and never called us to let us know he was there. They wanted me to re-adopt and pay for him, again. At this time unfortunately we can't pay for this. We did have him neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and bought a year supply of dog food after we paid for the first adoption. The gentlemen working there was helpful, but the women at the front desk are just flat out rude and threatened to euthanize our dog in 5 days if we didn't pay for him, again. She started raising her voice at me and making very rude remarks. I had to walk out to keep my composure because I was so upset. My biggest concern here is that they don't care about providing a safe space and adopting these dogs out. I went to the shelter to look for him before he was even there. They have a horrible system that isn't set up for the best interest of the pet. And they have no obligation to kill my dog in 5 days since I know for a fact after doing the walk through, they have plenty of empty kennels and are not facing capacity issues. This makes me sick to my stomach. We adopted this little guy and wanted him to be our forever pet but their system I just can't endorse and I know they don't truly care about the best interest of these pets or the families that have taken them in. I told my kids this morning I was going to pick up Rex. Now I will have to know that the last time I saw him he was afraid and locked up in kennel, laying around his own feces, and wasn't released to his family to take home. read more
