If I could give less than 1 star I would. We order breakfast food and milkshakes. I went inside and heard one of the girls talking about how American it is to order milkshakes (not in a positive way, I'm a condescending way). Then the two girls continue talking about it -I found out the milkshakes are 16oz, because they continued to make fun of the order. I canceled ad. On a recent visit to Talkeetna, I popped into Conscious Coffee with a friend for some espresso to-go. Customer service was very friendly and also very slow. Talkeetna is a slow kind of town, though, so I wasn't put-off by the pace. There is a small selection of books that Conscious Coffee allows residents to check out for free, which I thought was pretty cool! There is a nice sitting area outside, both covered and open. The interior of the shop is pretty dark and small (normally I'm not a fan of that) but they've feng shuied it so that even I thought of it more as cozy. The coffee was well made, with the perfect ratio of coffee/syrup/cream. Prices were average. read more

Updating rating to 4 stars down from 5 because service is inconsistent. It seems like some of the baristas are only friendly to you if you're a local. Seems strange for such a touristy town. Plus they only have one barista making drinks since they only have one espresso machine so you may have to wait a while. Also, you only get sleeves for to-go cups if you ask, apparently. Why don't they just leave them out by the drip coffee or just give them to you with your drink? I got drip coffee for my mom and it was scalding hot so I had to ask for a drink sleeve. The barista looked at me like I had three heads. Sorry I'm inconveniencing you for something you could just leave out and not have to deal with people asking. My cappuccino was enjoyable, but it was 50 cents more than a latte (???). I don't really understand their pricing. That said, this is still a nice place with Talkeetna's eccentric charm to have a coffee break. read more

I would go on to say they cater to the tourists during the season and the rest of the year they are severely lacking. Their customer service is horrible and it appears as though there is underlying animosity by the staff towards their customers. I was that guy! Claim of the worlds best espresso milkshake was not a lie! It was amazing. Also, had the Lane Creek crepe and it did not disappoint. Bypass everything else in Talkeetna and head directly to this place. Staff is amazing, especially Sierra! We put a lot of pressure on her to live up to the "Worlds Best" claim. Got an iced dirty chai and it was delicious. The everything bagel sandwich had pesto on it and it was out of this world. I highly recommend it as an add on. The crepes are made to perfection and tasted crispy and wonderful. Nothing bad can come out of this place. read more

It is end of season and this about the only place open at breakfast time. But honestly the only reason I can see they are still in business is for those very same reasons. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with cream cheese and drip coffee. It's was just a store bought bagel with a tube of cream cheese. All which would have been ok and this review is mainly for staff who are very short and rude. My friend ordered a crepe with fruit. They gave her a plain crepe and proceeded to fuss at her for saying she also asked for fruit. They then said we prefer you order off the menu. The two stars is extravagant. read more

Stopped by to get some sort of beverage, wasn't sure if I wanted coffee or not, but the place looked too cute from the outside to pass up! This place is a hidden gem. With their outdoor wooden deck set-up and book trading system, I can see this being a great place for locals to hang out, sip some coffee, relax, and crack a book. Their book selection isn't half bad either! They have a small book shelf inside in the corner of the shop, as well as various titles lining the walls. The policy is leave a book of your own (of equal or greater value) to the book you take from the shop. I think the book exchange is a nice touch, and gives Conscious Coffee another dimension of charm. I ended up getting the Spruce Juice, a green smoothie with yogurt/bananas/spinach I think, which surpassed my expectations. It was delicious! It had a nice consistency with a natural flavor and sweetness; nothing artificial tasting! Sadly, I was only in Talkeetna for a day. I like to think I know a thing or two about milkshakes and smoothies. If you're looking for a tasty treat it's a toss up between this place and the ice cream stand next to Denali brewing. I was very happy with my milkshake choice. Staff is friendly. Couple others got their big-long-drawn-out-coffee-orders and they did not complain. Feel like with coffee, as with a majority of things on Yelp, you usually only hear feedback when it's bad. So no news is good news, right? Food was average at best. I would have considered giving them a 4 particularly with them being in a small town but the service was atrocious. The young woman working the front register goes out of her way to be rude to the customers. It's so bad that I wonder if it's meant to be a joke and on purpose. We got a lot of good laughs by how extreme she is with her barbs and stormy disposition. To put up with poor service to then have tasteless food and smoothies isn't worth it.
