On their website and everywhere online it's written they open at 9am. Well, I came at 9.05am an saw the sign on the entry door that they actually open at 9.30am. I waited until 9.33am and made a call asking if they are open at all. A lady said 10 minutes. I waited for another 15 min until 9.45am but nobody showed up. So I just left... On the way to the car I saw a next door nail salon already open at 9.45am although officially they open at 10am. Have no comment on quality of their mani-pedi servise as it simply didn't happen for above reason. read more

I have been coming to Contempo Nails since I first moved from NYC to La La Land 18years ago. Diane, Contempo's owner has been in business at 333 S. Robertson for 30years!!! AND in a town like BEVERLY HILLS- that alone should speak volumes of the beautiful work they do at Contempo. Comfort- Diane truly cares about her clients comfort- the chairs are cozy to begin with and she is always offering up water, a pillow and even a blanket (it's been so cold in LA this winter) and sometimes a snack. Now, I like to bring things for her to enjoy. Convenience: Parking- If you can't find a metered space which usually isn't that difficult on S Robertson, there are a few parking spaces available in the back (enter alley from the NW corner of Olympic/Robertson- next to the Exxon Station). Hours- What's even more advantageous for me are the hours she's open- regular business hours at Contempo is 9:30am-9pm but I often don't leave until after 10pm. Availability- Although walk-ins are always accepted, it's always best to call before to see if there's a wait or to schedule an appointment. For example, last night I texted her at 9:02pm asking if I could come in the morning and she said- I'm just finishing with my last client, you can come now. I explained that the morning was better for me and she said to come at 9am, which is 30mins before she opens. A couple years back I started to bring my daughter along with me to get her nails done too (she's 8 now). And when we talk about going to get a mani/pedi we say "Do you want to go to Diane?" not do you want to go get our nails done. Her and her nail techs are very friendly and there are other customers who have been coming here for 15+ years--even with new folks like me there is a friendly neighborhood vibe which can be hard to find in LA. I came here because I had another appt in the area and needed a pedicure before my vacation. I usually go to a place closer to me but I was in a time crunch because I leave tomorrow and couldn't get my nails done at my regular place due to my schedule. First of all, there were hardly any people working there. It was regular business hours and there were 3 people working. Also, the Russian chick who was running the place had zero customer service skills and was getting a pedicure from one of the staff during business hours - taking up time that they could have been servicing clients and making money. I work at a very successful spa so I know about customer service and how a business like this should be run. This place apparently does not. My pedicure was fine but it was expensive for a basic pedicure. I feel sorry for the people who work here because they don't seem happy. I will not be back. read more

Upside: there is parking located in the alley. Most of the people I've had here work quick, are efficient and most importantly do a clean job. On top of all of that, they do not use nail polish thinner in their nail polish (which is a bad thing and makes your nails chips) their nail polishes are fresh and last longer than when I get them done at other salons. Really liked this beautiful simple and elegant salon. Diane is fantastic and takes a lot of care. Lots of comfy chairs and clean supplies , and floor area. Nicely lit space, with grey and white interiors. You are greeted with a smile, small water bottle and a little sweet candy. She also gave me halls mints for my coughs. She stays open till late. I will be back again . My manicure cost $15, I left a $5.00 tip - for being pampered for 45 minutes. I was told many years ago that you should leave a minimum five dollar tip for just a mani. With the cost of supplies and work and pampering it is well deserved. I was told a mani pedi combination is $28 which is very good price considering the area . When we got here, they waited another 20 minutes to start my friend's manicure but started mine immediately. My nails are now trimmed short and unevenly. It pains me to write this review - but I'm still upset about my nails and the service I received here yesterday. I've been coming to Contempo Nails off and on for the past year. At first I thought the service was really great and the products they used were awesome. Henry is my favorite nail tech by far. He takes his time, does a great job and has a very positive attitude. This place is cash only and they have an ATM machine inside that you can pull cash from if you need (for a fee) -so that's a plus. There is limited parking behind the building which is tandem and you if you block someone - expect to get up out of your chair and move your car in the middle of your service. Yup - I've had this happen every time I park back there. There is street parking if you're lucky enough to find any. On to my awful experience yesterday. I arrived at 5:30 and asked for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. They immediately sat me down and had me start to soak off my gels - great standard for any nail salon. While I was soaking my nails another customer asked a nail technician when she would be able to finish her nails. The customer was extremely upset and said she'd been there for an hour and a half and she wanted to leave. The nail tech responded "you need to go to the other room and wait until I am finished". I honestly pressed my lips together and tried to keep my face neutral. I couldn't believe how rude the nail tech was. WOW! So after sitting there for 30 minutes soaking - someone finally came over to start working on me. This place USED to have really high quality products, you know the gel polish in the little pots not just the stuff in the bottle. Well they don't anymore. I explained to the nail tech that I wanted a coral color for both my nails and toes. He pulled out a color that looked very much like neon orange and assured me that it was coral - HELL NO IT WAS NOT - my nails are.... NEON ORANGE. OK, I can get over that - really it's only color and it's only for two weeks. My issue was with the fact that the CHEAP nail polish they used is LUMPY - if I wanted the look for fake lumpy nails I would have gotten acrylic nails put on. Of course they offered to fix it but after an hour and a half, I was in no mood to sit there and have them start all over. So I've over this nail salon and now need to find somewhere else. read more

I really wanted to love this place...really. The prices really are the best in town, but here are some of the realities you sacrifice: -I have heard that the staff is treated HORRIBLY. While the owner is so sweet to her customers (it is true...she treats you like you are her favorite, gives free mani/pedi coupons, etc.), she is awful to her staff. It is great that this place is also open...but that means the staff never gets a break. Yes, it is convenient for us, but pretty horrible for workers trying to get home to their families. -The quality has been severely going down hill. I have been coming here for almost 6 months. My gel manicures went from lasting 2 weeks no chips to 2 days...seriously. Pretty frustrating when you shell out the money for a gel manicure. -They have been so busy, I have waited 10-15 minutes for someone to work on me pretty consistently. Once they begin working, they rush through to get to the next customer. Yes, speed is good...but lack of quality? Not so much. -You have to pay cash, so be sure to stop at an ATM on your way (fun) or pay an up-charge for using theirs. The owner told me that the lady that did the acrylics was out to lunch and that she was going to return in approximately 35 minutes. They started to do my feet an 1 hour an 30 minutes later she told me that the lady that did the acrylics was going to take a longer lunch and that I had to come back tomorrow. One of the employees told me that Diane-the owner-had lied to me, because the lady that did the acrylics had left a long time ago. She told me that it was not the first time that this had happened. Also, at first she told me that the pedicure was $13.00, then she changed the price to $15.00. Normally, I never write bad reviews.
