Old school seafood place that hasn't changed in a while but still solid. I haven't been there in about 15+ years. People were thirds extremely friendly. Seeing that they are full time restaurant as well a huge plus. I was able to pick a few items from their seafood counter. Ask them to put it over pasta and had a quick fresh lunch there. The food is absolutely wonderful, they are not overpriced. Lobster roll for $25 (for lunch). Prices are slightly higher for dinner. Portions are fair. Ambience? I have been going to Conte's for as long as I can remember. In the summer, you can eat outside around beautiful trees and happy atmosphere. Rob contes, serves up all kinds of great fish dishes that are always fresh. Great coleslaw when you first sit down w warm bread and flavored butter. Robbie, will always sit down and tell you what is the best choice. Lobsters over Linguine is spicy and tastes great. Steamers are awesome, I like the teriyaki swordfish which is a staple. Always the freshest fish and always a happy place to eat. BYOB is a great choice for any fish. contes is a great place to get together with friends and I always try and make it their, when I am in Mt. Kisco. Maybe it's because we came in at 8pm on a Friday, but they ran out of bread and they ran out of mussels. Try ordering oysters here and they don't have those either. The ambiance here feels like you are eating at a fish mongers place. It's very basic, with table clothes that look like old newspapers. They serve you water in a old wine bottle. The prices on the menu are quite high for a place like this. I just had the seafood paella and it was not very good. I had a taste of the red snapper and it was not very good either. While were eating, another server brought us bread saying they just baked some fresh bread right out of the oven. The only problem was that the center was icy cold for fresh baked bread. There are better choices for seafood than here. The rating I gave was quite generous. I don't like chain restaurants, but Red Lobster is much better. read more

The restaurant at Conte's was a disappointment. We went for dinner on a Friday night and when walked in it was just us and who assumed to be the owner / manager taking to one other customer. He continued to speak very loudly in this small space where it was difficult to hear each other. The Manhattan clam chowder lacked flavor and depth and was on par with a canned soup needing additional seasoning. We each had the whole trout which was supposed to come with a citrus horseradish but when it came it appeared to be fish with a little horseradish from a jar and some parsley and again lacking flavor and seasoning. One good point was that the fish was fresh tasting. Overall this restaurant was significantly overpriced for food that lacked flavor and would not recommend going. read more

Conte's, I never realized, is also a sit down restaurant. It is a small 6-8 tables only place. I had heard great things about the freshness & selection, so I went with my wife and fellow co-workers. How is Conte's FSA (Food, Service, Atmosphere) Food: Great selection of seafood and specials to choose from. You name it they appeared to have it. I ordered the red snapper. It was good. Maybe overly topped with bread crumbs, but good. It came with sides of potatoes & spinach. Spinach came plain and needed salt. Service: Owner appeared very friendly, and good wait staff. Wanted to get some seafood and a friend stumbled upon Conte's Fish Market. To be honest, I was completely skeptical of the dining decision, but Conte's impressed. The small joint with about 20 seats, had a jersey shore type vibe to it. BYO bottle of wine for a $15 bottle fee. For my first visit I opted to get the 1.5 lb lobster. Although, I made a mess of myself and the restaurant the lobster was fresh and well cooked. From what I could tell the owner is the waiter as well, and treats you as if you were a guest in his home. Seafood quailty fine. Owners treat you like Untouchables if they don't know you. Wire chairs very uncomfortable. My table was literally 2 feet from the fish display. I get the market ambiance but don't need it that close. Don't go thinking you'll get a good value for eating in a fish store. Prices are comparable with any high end seafood restaurant. Conte's is the he best fresh seafood you will eat in NY hands down. Its a small fish market during the day and then they turn into a small 10 table max restaurant at night with such a cozy atmosphere. You almost feel as if you are sitting at home or at a friends house having dinner that is prepared by your own 5 star chef! Rob Conte- the owner is there at night making sure everything runs smooth and that everyone is happy. He is also chatting it up with everyone because this is the place that has their regular customers that come pretty much every weekend like clockwork because the food is THAT GOOD! And like the above review said, it is not a shock to find some local celebrities and even former president Clinton and many others sitting next to you enjoying the cuisine. The cod was a good size piece, but no seasoning. Same for the seafood paella! The Manhattan calm chowder was pitiful had barley anything in it; only two pieces of calm and a few pieces of potato. I was so looking forward to enjoying dinner at Conte's fish market in mt kisco until I overheard the owner, talking loudly at the table next to us, said his Girlfriend of 9 years should get over the fact she had a double mastectomy in October. He actually said " she should be the happiest person in the world because it wasn't that bad". The worst part was 30 seconds later he went on about how she is the kind of person who only thinks about herself. I usually don't post these things but this was so rude and embarrassing for his girlfriend, a woman I don't know but yet still feel horrible for. I will never set foot into that place again. I am so disgusted by what I witnessed and dumbfounded by how in humane and insensitive a person can be and show lack of empathy by speaking of his girlfriend to customers like that. Ill start with what I didn't like first. The place is obviously run by regular dudes. I might sound particular but there was cleaning supplies left out on the table next to us, some of my silverware was missing, I ordered a beer and it came out warm even though the server tried to fix it by bringing it out in a bucket of ice. Idk if we got there at opening time or what but it just seemed like they weren't ready for customers. The food was alright, crab stuffed shrimp tasted good. On 6/16/18 I took my wife out for our anniversary.I researched seafood restaurants and Conte's kept coming up. We brought our own bottle of wine. just remember there is a $15 cork fee (too much). Oh, they never chilled our wine. And our check was brought to us before we even had the main course. We order the red snapper and the sword fish. The snapper was decent, but kinda small and the sword fish was not so tender. We were very disappointed that both meals did not come with a side, mash potato, rice or something, just fish and a few string beans. This restaurant was a bust. We are never going back. read more

The owner treats the employees badly, and their customers with the same attitude of "if you're not someone, I'm better than you." Great little place. Feels like a seaside nook with fish nets draping from the ceiling and each napkin ring is a different cute fish. The crab cakes were delicious, pure crab, no fillers. The shrimp and broccoli rabe entree was very tasty. My husband ordered the shrimp and scallop fra diavolo and said it was very tasty. We ordered a bottle of Pinot, which was just right. The only dish that didn't rate was the muscles, served as an appetizer. My friend said that they were small and nothing special. Then sat down and there was virtually no cushion between the seat and the frame. Very uncomfortable. Asked what came with entree and was told my choice of potato and vegetable like spinach. All 4 in the party requested the potato and spinach. Waiter then told us they were out of both, only had rice And broccoli. Also asked if we wanted dessert. Asked for the flourless chocolate cake. They were out of this too. It was Saturday night and only 3 tables full. No drinks ordered, we paid corkage fee, had appetizers and entrees. $225 plus tip. Too many better options at this price. Conte's is up there with the very best seafood restaurants in NY. Not the prettiest, but the freshest seafood always perfectly prepared. When steamer's are in, they're as good as fresh off the docks in Maine. Same with the striped bass - when they have it, it's because it was caught that morning. Top quality lobsters, shrimp, and no-filler crabcakes. Did I mention the home-made key lime pie? Yes, it's a seafood market by day, the traditional refrigerated display runs across the back of the restaurant, the tables and chairs are basic. So it's not for everyone. But there are lots of regulars, and if you come a second time, Rob Conte, the owner, waiter, and sometime cook, will remember your name. If you come a third time he'll remember your children's names and your friends names. When you sit down, you're immediately given free coleslaw (made that morning), crusty bread and way too delicious herbed butter. But save some of the bread (and calories) to soak up the broth from the steamers! It'll be the best you've ever tasted. Shrimp with broccoli rabe, paella or cioppino are always showing up on the menu, along with all the traditional fish and seafood dishes.
